I looked up my vehicle through a form i received in the mail"airbagrecall" and my vehicle qualified for the recall. Both of my airbags were listed in the recall, i tried to call the dealer to take care of this safety hazard and they told me that they did not have the necessary parts to take care of the recall, and they couldn't help me.
While driving, the air bags on the driver side deployed; above the window and above the arm rest. I did not go over any bumps or holes. There was not an accident or impact nor any history of. No warning lights came on indicating a problem with the car. The airbags spontaneously deployed while driving! my left elbow, left arm, and left ear were injured. I panicked and crossed over to the median on my left without looking for oncoming traffic; also, the airbags were obstructing my view. The engine was turned off, i got out of my car, and ran down the access road alongside the highway thinking my car was going to explode. I called road side assistance. The towing company took 1 hour and 45 minutes. The man was very rude and unwilling to tow the car. My friend and i followed the tow truck to the bmw dealership. The tower refused to let me take pictures of my car. I was able to take pictures of the car the next day under the supervision of a service advisor. The dealership told me that "the air bags were not on my warranty" and "i would have to go through my insurance to repair the car". When i asked for a courtesy car in the meantime, they stated "your warranty covers rental cars but we do not give out cars for this problem. You will have to go through your insurance." i got a rental car through my insurance. The adjuster was sent to inspect my car. He and bmw told me that there was "significant damage" on the left underside of the car that caused a part of the car to come "loose" and trigger the sensor deploying the air bags. Bmw claims damage to a part of the car i could not take pictures of. The dealership told the adjuster that the air bags deployed in my driveway. Bmw corporate office was notified. Yet, there was no solution. I requested that my car be towed to the next city. The claim was closed. The charges of the rental car were transferred to me. I also have to pay for the doctor visits. Bmw still has not done anything to correct the failure!!!
Srs warning lamp illuminated. Passenger discriminating sensor defective, replacement required to eliminate mil and restore srs to operating condition.

Jtakata recall campaign no 15v-318 driver-side front air bag modulereceived notice of recall july 2015. As of 6/2016 still no action taken by bmw. I have heard nothing from bmw concerning repair.
I have received two separate recalls for airbag replacements on my car. The first was the passenger airbag and that recall was received in 2014. It took several months before i was able to have my front passenger airbag replaced. In july this year i have received a recall saying that i now need to replace the driver side airbag which describes the same risk: "...resulting in metal fragments striking the front driver or other passengers potentially resulting in serious injury or death." if bmw has created a car that could potentially result in my injury or death, should it not be reasonable for the problem to be fixed immediately? should it not be reasonable that i am given a loaner bmw at their expense (including insurance) while they fix this potentially life threatening problem with my car? why two separate recalls? why did they not fix both airbags at the same time? why does it take months to address this problem? how many potentially preventable serious injuries or deaths have occurred as a result?

Takata recall - 15v318it has been just over 7 months since i received the recall notice from bmw for the drivers-side airbag recall. I have been on a waiting list since it came out, but there are still no available parts. There also is no interim remedy. At this point, i feel the vehicle is undrivable due to the possibility of metal fragments coming through the driver's airbag. This has caused a lot of issues with my household, and is causing un-due wear on my other vehicle, as well as costing much more money for things like fuel and maintenance. I am having to drive hundreds of extra miles every week, along with having to jump through numerous scheduling hoops. I asked about any kind of a loaner/rental car provided via bmw, and i was told no, there is no such thing. After 7 months, there needs to be some kind of resolution, even if it is a temporary one (are there temporary airbags of some sort? something that makes the car safe again, at least until the permanent parts come in?). Even with all of the issues, i still feel i am one of the "lucky few" with this recall that has a second vehicle. I can not imagine how things would work out if the only car i had could send shrapnel at me in the even of an accident.something needs to happen. Even if it's temporary. 7 months of no progress is far too long, even in a recall of this scale.
I had my airbags replaced but the man sitting in the seat is on with a airback in his lap i was told that the mrs control needs to be replaced, and at the dealership they said that the bad airbags may have caused this issue, i want to know if bmw is goinn to take care of this, because none of the air bags workwithout the mrs module i have no protection if i am in an accident this needs to be recalled or at least bmw needs to pay for half the cost.

Dt:the contact owns bmw and while driving down the highway both driver side air bags deploy and there was not an accident. The two air bags that deployed was one of the side above the window and the one at the arm rest. He contacted bmw and they want him to sign a statement pretty much telling him to keep his mouth shut and not to report the deployment or his injuries to anyone. If he signs the statement they told him they would give him a replacement car. The deployment of the air bag caused injury to the driver of the vehicle and he says this is a safety problem that he wanted to report.

Vehicle was struck on driver side by pickup truck darting out from intersecting side street. Truck was going aprox. 10-15 mph. Bmw aprox. 20-25mph. This was a side t-bone collision, no side airbags deployed. Bmw driver sustained minor injuries to head, face, chest, neck, shoulder.substantial damage to bmw left side.
1-air bag warning light would not turn off afterstart up. Took vehicle to local bmw dealer. Was informed that i needed to fix this problem so air bag would deploy properly on passenger seat . Was told this is a 'common' problem on e46 models!very costly to repair..not to mentionthat the parts that needed replacement are well stocked at all bmw dealers that i called..very rarely has anyone sat on passenger seat..the defect in the seat sensor is discussed in internet web sites as far back to the e39 series models as well as the e90 series models.2- radiator expansion tank fails too often on this series model. I developed a anti-freeze leak on a return vacation trip. No warning was given.. Parked car in garage in the evening, noticed a fair amount of anti-freeze on ground. Again, was told this is common on this series e46 model..since when is equipment failure a standard for the safe operation of any motor vehicle? the parts that fail in this vehicle can cause great injury to its occupants especially the passenger in the case of air bag deployment. In the case of the radiator expansion tank, for this part to fail without warning can be catastrophic to the engine, which will cause severe damage. If engine is not operational, one can lose power steering or brake capability, or both.

I got a recall letter on july 2015 of my drivers side airbag being defective.i already had to have the passenger side replaced because of recall. It took 7 months to get it replaced.i'm totally scared and anxious to drive my car.i saw someone get burned from an airbag recently and am super super scared to drive my car.ive called a couple times and they say they do not have the part in stock.can't anything be done?
Multiple intermittent problems with door locks failing to open either by key fob, depressing button inside car, or by pulling inside door handle. To exit car, must lower windows and insert key into outside keyhole. This is a serious hazard! problem arises with no apparent cause, then will disappear a few days later with for no apparent reason. Bmw replaced actuator (?) and the problem appears to have disappeared, but it cost me $1400.other electrical problem is with air bag warning light coming on after car sits undriven for more than a couple of days. Was told that air bags will not work with light on. No reason found. Battery checks out fully charged.

Takata recall....i am driving in an unsafe vehicle due to drivers airbag recall and no parts are available to fix the problem.this is not a good feeling. I worry each time i get in my car and drive.the local dealership said no parts and no loaner vehicles.so i drive and worry. Someone pulled out in front of me on 4-22-16 and i barely missed their car and thought how awful this could have turned out, if i had hit them, t-boning them, my airbag would have opened and injured me and/or killed me.i get home and called the dealership because i never heard from them since last july's first recall when they told me i would get a notification when parts where available.still no parts, i don't want to drive my car. I am a victim of "worry".the dealership service rep. Was not very concerned nor helpful.she must be not driving a car with a "driver's side airbag that is defective" and unsafe.

The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle struck the curb and caused the passenger side air bags to deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (momentum bmw, 10002 southwest freeway, houston, tx, 855-645-6452). The air bag was previously repaired per an unknown recall; therefore, the dealer would not repair it again for free. The air bag was not replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact also received a takata settlement notice and was referred to 833-619-7579. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
Takata recall? we received notice of a recall for an airbag problem in july 2015. We contacted our dealer coast bmw nissan at 12100 los osos valley rd. San luis obispo ca, 93401 (tel. 805 543-4423) several times and were told they were waiting for parts and would call us when they were available. Ever since the takata air bag alert was issued by nhtsa and bmw, i have been in touch with bmw north america representative, [xxx] for information regarding the replacement. After much delays and correspondence including telephone conversations, almost a year after first notice, she had a dealer, crevier bmw to replace the defective driver side takata airbag with another takata airbag as a temporary measure until a correct replacement was available.see below email of april 26, 2016."good afternoon [xxx],i am following up with you yet once again on the availability of the 'right' replacements (passenger and driver side) of the takata air bags for my 2003, e46. As you know it has been 19 months since the initial announcement (recall campaign n0. 14v-428, september 2014)and months since you were kind as to arrange a temporary solution for me at crevier bmw dealership. I am still very much interested in the actual real solution. I am sure the nhtsa would not be happy to hear of such long delay and lack of any information from bmw north america as to when customers can expect a solution.i look forward to your response. [xxx] "after more delays in getting a reply, she is now referring me to your website:"good morning [xxx],the most up to date details on takata is postedon the nhtsa website.kind regards,[xxx]"i am absolutely frustrated with bmw and their delaying tactics and total disregard for the customers' safety. I am requesting that you intervene on my behalf, compel bmw to provide a real and appropriate solution and stop these delays. Other manufactures such as honda have already responded and taken corrective actions but bmw seems to discard this very serious safety concern and ignores your directives. In their letter of june 19, 2014 to you, they commit to replacing defective part but do not do so. Please advise. I was driving through an intersection at approximately 15 mph when i was struck in the driver and passenger doors by a vehicle who was running a red light. The other driver did not see me and struck me at full speed, probably around 45 mph. My vehicle was hit so hard that it spun around and slid about half a block. None of the airbags, including the side impact airbags, deployed, and the engine did not shut off. The car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company.
Consumer's vehicle was rear ended. Upon impact,it hit the vehicle in front, and air bags did not deploy, but there was a foul odor inside the vehicle.
My wife was in a serious accident on 07/07/06.her 2003 325i bmw was hit on the drivers side by a suv that jumped over the median, totaling the car.we contacted bmw of north america and reported that none of the air-bags deployed.we are very concerned.we also to this date have not received any information from bmw.
My 2003 bmw 325i sedan was t-boned on drivers side doors, and sent across the intersection and smashed into utility pole on rear passenger side with enough force to bend the frame. No side or curtain air bags deployed. Other driver ran a red light at about 40 mph and never hit the brakes. My head slammed to the top of the driver's door where an air bag should have been, causing swelling and numbness to this day. The door slammed into my entire left side where the air bag in the door should have been. I was wearing a seat belt. The car is totaled. Bmw is sending an engineer to examine the car in a few days.
My dashboard panel showed a warning light indicating that the tail light was having an issue.i was told by a service center that the tail light assembly may get hot enough to melt the plastic in the housing and it will have to be replaced.upon inspection i found that the wire harness had melted and the power supply wire for one of the lights had melted the plastic and the wire had come free.once free, it arced to the connector pin on the bulb holder assembly and degraded that pin until the connection was lost.all plastic pieces in contact with the parts are melted and burned.i contacted the bmw service center and was told that this is not a recall issue and i was responsible for replacing these parts.pictures are available of the parts.
My rear window and the rooftop dont work i can hear the motors but nothing happens a technician explain that the regulatorandlines are brokenits a common thing on my modelhe specified.
The contact owned a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it caught on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
My vehicle has the same incident about a dozen of times in the last 4-5 years.the vehicle suddenly had check engine light, abs light, traction control light, and brake light on, engineer started to knocking, speed forced down to less than 30 mph within in seconds.it was quite scaring when the vehicle was on the highway with speed at ~50-70 mpg.my dealer has made several repairs, changing everything in this speed controlling system multiple times according to the book, including throttle body twice, electric harness three times, and control computer unit once, but the problem recurs.occasionally, resetting the system and/or restarting the car, and sometimes reconnecting every parts of the system can avoid the problem for a while (from a days to 1-2 years).although it is unpredictable in when, it would come back.the problem seems to come more often when the weather become more wet.this mimics the behavior of the poor electric connections controlling the tails and turning lights of the same model, which was recalled by bmw a couple of years ago.it seems that the same electric connectors are used in this speed controlling system.obviously, this problem is more dangerous than the signaling light issue since it is more likely to lead to severe accidents/crashes in the highway; i might be dead or severely injured if i did not responded quickly enough when was in i-95 for example.
We own a bmw 325i series 2003 sedan. While my daughter started the car she noted the left headlight went out on the driver's side of the car. She was only around 4 blocks away so proceeded to drive home and during the drive she experienced her brakes grabbing and steering difficulties. All the dashboard indicator lights came on. We took the car that night to bmw to drop off for evaluation. The service manager stated that the xenon headlight failed and took at the steering system panel and had to be all rewired. He said they had never seen this happen before. I am concerned this is a safety concern in the wiring of the xenon headlight to effect a steering panel when the headlight goes out. The effect on the steering panel is immediate and gives no time to replace the headlight without further damage to the car. The cost to repair was 1800.00. This is very concerning. 2 months later the blinker headlight next to the xenon headlight fell completely out of the car held by a wire while my daughter was driving on the highway. It seems like there is an issue with the bmw 325i series headlights that to me is a great safety concern for those driving. I would appreciate your follow up to the make and model. I would be glad to provide my name for you to obtain copies of the service records on these events from our bmw dealership. Thank you.
Bmw 325i purchased new in april 2003.after a couple of weeks i started to experience problems.my car would jerk very hard when approaching to a stop. My car started to stall out while driving or sometimes it did not even start.in june 2003 a little over a month after i initially purchase it, i took it to the dealer.they could not duplicate the same problem and it did not register any faults in the computer.a month later took it back for the same problem and they could not duplicate problem.another month passd took it back for the same problem and this time they were able to find out what caused the jerking problem.bmw tech said that they needed to upgrade the computer software which they did and the jerking stopped.but the most important problem that has not been fixed is my car stalling. Since purchased date my car has been in the shop several times now and my car continues to die out on me.sometimes the car would not even start, i had to tow it back to the dealer once.summarize current problems: randomly does not want to start and sometimes my doors does not unlock when using the key remote.
Gm5 locking module for 2003 bmw e46.all four lock would not unlock or lock on the remote or switch inside the car.i had to either wait in the heat or cold outside while waiting for the locking system to respond.if there are children in the car and you cannot get to in time because of the lock/unlock issue, it can be fatal for others.
3/26/2010 - olney, md - 2003 325xiright and left rear light assembly system failing at times, (turn signal and brake light works intermittenly).bmw acknowledged "ground" problem in assemly in tbs:630306, february 1 2007local dealer in silver spring md, tisher bmw correct the problem only on the right side and completely ignore multipple office visit for the same issue on both sides and refuse to correct problem on the left assembly. At the same time bmw corporate office customer suport refused to offer out of warranty freerepair or to initiate recallon previosly acknowledged "ground" problem. I belive this issue is the safty hazard because the "ground" red wire is burning in the connector of tail light assembly. Also people and other drivers can't see when you "braking"
Stalling, electrical issues, dead batteries, swerving
Ground wire on rear light wiring harness has burnt through damaging plug and socket. Potential for fire.updated 09/07/11
Doors will not open because door locks will not unlock.key fob button will not unlock any doors 90% of the time.most of the time i can only get in car on drivers side with manual operation of driver's side door lock (sticking key in lock and turning). Once in car, 90% of time i still cannot unlock any other doors, even by pulling on door handle (which would ordinarily unlock the door).the interior button to unlock the doors will not work.on friday, 12/9/11, i could not even get out of the driver's side door when i arrived at my destination.(car is set to automatically engage all locks once i start driving) i had to roll window down and reach out and unlock door with key.when my son and daughter drive with me, they have to get in and out of car either by crawling across driver's seat or go through a window opening.my wife cannot ride in this car now because she may not be able to get out. Due to this defect, passengers are trapped in car.also, entry into vehicle is delayed (because fob will not unlock doors) which also poses safety risks when parked at night in downtown parking garages. There are five other complaints on nhtsa website on this exact same issue. Recall should be initiated.
Rear lighting system, to include turn signal and brake light, on my 2003 bmw 325i works intermittently. Bmw acknowledged defect in system in si b 63 03 06, dated february 2007 but to date has refused to initiate a recall to fix this safety defect.the nature of the defect causes the lamp housing terminals to burn and burns the surrounding plastic housing. This can be a fire hazard particularly of there is flammable material in the trunk. Obviously the brake lights working intermittently is an obvious hazard. The repair costs approx $600 for both sides.
Both back windows on my 2003 bmw 325i will not go up. Garage says both regulators and actuators must be replaced. Researching the internet shows this to be a common failure on this model and it is considered a safety hazard.
Xenon lights went out shortly after the 50,000 mark.shortly after car kept going into fail safe mode, kept getting low voltage readings on diagnostics. One bmw dealers kept telling me i needed to rebuild transmission.all they would do is plug the car into the computer and see the tranny reading on the scanner.the reason there was a tranny reading was because the car was in fail safe mode.i eventually had the tranny rebuilt and i still had the same issue.i would cycle the ignition and restart the car and car would drive fine.it keeps going into fail safe mode everytime i start the car.its harder to get it out of fail safe mode in the winter with colder starts.
Faulty pin connectors in rear brakelight assemblies, causing premature failure of brake lighting harness, very dangerous.
Brake light malfunction due to corrosion of wires within the housing of the brake light. Bmw corporate is aware of the problem, but has yet to recall it.
Our 2003 bmw 325i has had repeated stalling events occurring at increasing frequency. While idling at stop lights or at highway speed warning lights on the dashboard (eml, hazard and brake) light and the engine loses power, and rpm's drop. After the first occurrence, the bmw was taken to advantage midtown bmw in houston, tx for diagnosis/repair. Bmw replaced the throttle controller which they said was defective. 1-2 months later the problem began occurring again with increasing frequency. The car stalled at a traffic light with the same warning lights/symptoms. The car was returned to advantage bmw and left for several days. Initially the service staff at advantage bmw told us that the computer had failed and needed to be replaced and was under warranty. However, after discussions with the bmw corporate office, advantage bmw did not replace the computer instead stating the that the problem may be due to low voltage in the system. I asked them what would cause this since i did not want to drive the car when it intermittently could stall. Advantage kept the car a few more days and then returned it to us with the explanation that the low voltage was due to insufficient charge on the battery. I was advised to purchase a float charger. Since then the car has been kept fully charged via a ctek float charger. However last weekend the engine stalled repeatedly while my family and i were driving on interstate 10 at freeway speeds. This forced me to pull to the shoulder of the highway and drive with reduced power. After stopping the car and restarting, the engine reset and functioned again for a while. Since this time the problem has repeated itself 5 times in 1 week. I feel that bmw returning the car to me in the condition where intermittent stalling is occurring is unsafe - i stated this to advantage bmw when i had it in for service during the second instance of these problems.i have service scheduled again at advantage bmw for august 14, 2010.
Remote unlocking/locking will not function. Doors can not be opened or unlocked from inside vehicle with central lock switch or with door handle, trapping passengers inside. The drivers window must be rolled down and key used to unlock driver side door to exit vehicle. Climbing out of windows or climbing to drivers seat is the only way out of car, bmw states "not a safety issue".
My 2003 bmw 325i will not unlock. I cant get into the car. I have tried the key and the fob and the doors will not unlock. I had to break the window to get into the car only to find out the doors still will not unlock. This is a safety issue you cant unlock the doors from the inside or the outside. This is extremely concerning and a true safety issue.
I bought my 2003 bmw 325i new.shortly after the sale i noticed the front drivers xenon light would go out. The only way to get the light back on, is to turn off the car and restart the engine.this works about 80 percent of the time.another issue i have been experiencing is a false indication that my taillights are out.this is very sporratic and annoying. A third issue i am experiencing is very dangerous relating to my drivers seatbelt.the seatbelt may seam locked, but if you pull with a bit of force, the seatbelt will come out of the locked position.
The engine has been stalling intermittently while driving since 11/2004, and has had 6 documented services. After last service on 11/18/05, it stalled again on 12/01/05 when driving on freeway. I had not driven it since then and had it towed and returned to the dealer on 12/10/05.
Right rear lighting system, to include turn signal and brake light, on my 2003 bmw 325i works intermittently.bmw acknowledged defect in system in si b 63 03 06, dated february 2007 but to date has refused to initiate a recall to fix this safety defect.
The computer first failed on my 2003 bmw 325i on june 15, 2003, (three weeks after i picked it up from the dealership, bmw of manhattan), causing me to lose acceleration without warning.i was travelling at 60-65 miles per hour in the far left lane of the garden state parkway.i was barely able to manuever the car to the shoulder of the road and i was lucky that there happened to be a very small shoulder on the left side of the road, as i would have never been able to make it to the shoulder on the right hand side of the road and traffic was very heavy.this sudden loss of acceleration could have easily caused a fatal accident; particularly, because the cars behind me had no way to detect that my car was only coasting.the nj state troopers had to shut down northbound traffic in all 4 lanes of the garden state parkway in order to remove my car from the parkway.the car was towed to the dealership.the dealership was unable to successfully reprogram the computer, so they sent it to montvale, nj to be reprogrammed.the dealership returned the car to me on june 20, 2003.on june 25, 2003, the computer failed again, causing the car to lose acceleration without warning.this time, i was exiting a parking garage and another car nearly slammed into me on the exit ramp.when i restarted the car, i was able to reach the top of the ramp and pull to the side of the road, (not an easy task during rush hour in midtown manhattan!), but the car lurched repeatedly and was unable to go more than 5 mph.the car was towed to the dealership.bmw of manhattan has been unresponsive to my telephone calls.the car clearly has a very serious defect, which could easily cause fatalities.
Ltr fm (ma) concerned about the stalling tendences in model years 2001-2004 bmw 325i and 323i passenger cars.the stalling problem was eleminated by installing an update released about july 2004 by bmw ag headquarters in munich.an independent repair facility downloaded the update from the bmw-siemens website in the u.k. And installed it in the consumer's bmw.since the software has been updated the vehicle has only stalled twice since updated, once when in the wrong gear, and once when the emergency brake was set.
The display that shows the odometer, temperature, trip meter, etc. Stopped working completely.a pixel or two will show up, but no legible information.
The car doors at times do not unlock. It is very intermittent. A key can be used to open the driver's door but a couple of times even the door key has not worked. The most serious issue is that i have been locked inside the car and unable to open any of the doors, including the driver's door, with the main lock control or even by trying to open the door with the inside door handle. I have had to have passengers crawl out of the window to exit the car a few times. There are times when the key works to get in but i cannot get the other doors open even by attempting to use the inside door handle. This is a scary situation to be in.
Right taillamp failure and left taillamp intermittent operation.electrical system repair:right rear taillamp connector and bulb carrier corroded.dealer replaced pigtail harness and bulb carrier with updated design:socket housing, terminal, contact, cable connector, hose, insulation housing, flat contact, cable socket and bulb socket.
2003 bmw 325i stalls frequently because of instability.the vehicle stalled about seven times after being driven off the lot on the date if purchase. From dec 2003 to june 2005 the vehicle had only been drive 11,000 because the dealer was unable to alleviate the stalling condition.the dealer believed the stalling was due to driver error.the consumer believes the stalling is due to instability and that this problem could be easy fixed by updating software.an independent repair facility downloaded the update from the bmw-siemens website in the u.k. And installed it.since the software has been updated the vehicle has only stalled twice since updated, once when in the wrong gear, and once when the emergency brake was set.
When driving at an undetermined speed trunkwould open without warning.consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that vehicle had an electrical problem.
Bmw 325i rear blinkers shorted out causing electrical wires to burn.while driving my bmw a warning light on my console turned on indicating the left rear brake/blinker light(s) went out while at the same time i smelled wiring burning.i stopped the car and all my lights seemed ok, so i presumed it was a faulty sensor.a short while later while driving down the freeway i pulled into the left lane and really pissed the driver off behind me and nearly caused an accident.at this moment i noticed my left blinker was making a fast noise as though the left blinker bulb(s) was out.i pulled over a second time to check my blinkers, fearing i would cause an accident, and all my flashers, brake lights and blinkers were working fine.the warning lights on the console went on and off intermittently.i purchased a new bulb hoping this would solve the problem, but everything seemed ok and functional.when i returned from my trip, i was told by two european auto shops and the service manager of a bmw dealership that bmw is aware of a ground problem with the rear light cluster.when i unsnapped the plastic connection from the rear light cluster, the metal prongs and plastic were melted away.the heat apparently was so hot, the solid metal prongs 1/4" long completely melted including the plastic casing.a bmw dealership employee told me that this issue is common when driving in the city when one is using the brakes and blinkers incessantly, particularly in heavy traffic."the grounding wire isn't heavy enough to withstand the demand for electricity required by the brake and blinker lights simultaneously".this is a known bmw defect and this can easily cause an accident, as in my case, not to mention a lot of drivers really pissed off when i cut in front of them thinking my blinkers are working.this is an issue bmw should repair!
Got a warning from police about drivers side brake light being out.took it to repair shop to be repaired.bulb replaced.in less than 12 hours the lights were out again.took it back to repair shop they pulled the light panel out lights came on.i drove off and the inside warning light came on again.i was told by the repair shop that if the light went out again it was an electrical problem and the panel would have to be replaced.
I have a bmw 325i which i purchased brand new in nov. '02. In march '03, while driving on the njtpk at 60-65mph in the left lane, the car suddenly lost its acceleration. The clocks also went off and then reset itself to 12:00. Being that i was driving in the left lane of the nj turnpike, i consider myself very lucky that i was able to cross four lanes of traffic and come to the right shoulder (there was no left shoulder). I waited for a while, restarted the car, reset the clock and hit the road again. Shortly after that the electrical system in the car starting acting up... At one occasion, i was not able to unlock the car using the remote. At another, the windows would not roll up upon pulling on the knob. The light below the rear view mirror would not come on. Most of these problems would go away after i would shut down the car and restart it. I took the car into princeton bmw where i had purchased it. They had never heard of this issue before. They kept the car for a full day and did extensive testing on it. At the end of the day they were not able to find anything wrong with the car. For the next few months i did not have any problems with the acceleration although the light behind the rear view mirror still does not work fine. If i turn the right light on, nothing happens for about 5-10 minutes. Then all of a sudden the light comes on. Well, this past weakened (march 14th '04) i had an another experience, on rt. 1, where the car totally lost its acceleration again. I am going to schedule an appointment with princeton bmw again. I also called bmw of na and informed them of the issue.
The warning light for my passenger side tail light has been going on and off for months as if there is a short in it.it stayed on permanently this month, showing a dimmer light than the working side tail light, so i had it checked when i had the oil changed at my bmw mechanic. He informed me there was a recall for tail light assemblies for my vehicle and told me to call the dealer to check the vin number. I called the dealer last friday, june 22, 2012 and was informed that my vehicle was part of the recall and that someone would call to make an appointment for the work. No one called, so i called again today and they said the vin was not part of the open recall.the tail light is acting like the other tail lights that were recalled so i do not understand how it cannot be part of the recall.
2003 bmw 325i 4 door owned by me for 3 1/2 months destroyed in fire.bmw had sent letter to me regarding manufacturing problem & to bring into dealership for correction.prior to problem, i did have have slow starting/cranking problems. Car brought into dealership on 2/21/04. On 2/23/04,driving fire started in right rear area of my trunk, near battery.car totalled by insurance company.
I purchased a new 2003 bmw 325 in july, 2003 from performance bmw in chapel hill, nc.the ignition coil had to be replaced today on the #2 cylinder.the vehicle currently has 8,000 miles on it.i was told by mel, the service tech at performance bmw in chapel hill, nc,that bmw has had problems with the ignition coils on the 2003 and 2004 models and that because of these problems bmw has switched vendors for these ignition coils and no longer uses the vendor that supplied the parts for my car.since there a 6 ignition coils in my car, that means that at any point in time any one of the other 5 ignition coils could fail and leave me stranded as happened today.i asked the dealer to replace all the igniton coils in my car that were supplied by this vendor seeing as i am a female who travels frequenctly for business through rural areas where it would be easy for me to be stranded.the dealer refused saying that the other coils have not yet failed so they cannot replace them.it appears to me that this is a known quality and safety issue with this product, for which bmw is unwilling to stand behind it's product.
I've had this car for only 2 years and the ignition coils have been replaced three times now.the events include the "service engine soon" light coming on and the car vibrating and idling rough. The car eventually stalls and cannot be driven and must be towed.bmw is aware of this problem with the ignition coils because they have an internal service bulletin on the problem.even after replacing all 6 coils the second time, the problem has happened again for the third time.there is a definite design issue with this car that bmw has refused to address.
Intermittent severe engine miss.engine hesitation/failure to accelerate.engine surges and has very rough idle.transmission failure to up shift (maximum speed is approximately 50 mph).service engine soon light illuminates, but not always (intermittent).with less than 9,000 miles this car has been towed in three times for this and other failures which have left the car undriveable.bmw dealership service personnel have replaced many parts, without success, as far as we know (more later).these engine events can occur spontaneously, and are not always indicated by a "service engine soon" light illumination.the most dangerous situations are when it occurs as one comes to a stop before entering high speed traffic or when making a left turn.because the problem can occur spontaneously, if the engine were to stall or begin to run on less than its full complement of cylinders, it could leave one exposed to oncoming traffic with no way to accelerate.very dangerous.internet seaching after the latest "repair" attempt has exposed a "secret" bmw bulletin regarding bremi ignition coils.(apparently, this is the same coil brand used in the vw/audi cars with similar problems two years ago.)all six ignition coils, spark plugs, and a host of other parts have been replaced thus far.unknown if these attempts were successful as this car is no longer being driven--it's fate awaits a possible law suit against bmw.i strongly urge the nhtsa to recall every bmw with these coils, in addition to addressing bmw's efforts to not publicize this information more readily.please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.mark [email protected]
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i.the contact stated that the wiring harness for both tail lights have shortened out and melted.she is concerned that this failure could cause her vehicle to catch fire.the dealer stated that this is a common failure among the 2001-2003 models.the current and failure mileages were 57,200.
I have a 2003 325i when coming to a stop with the foot on the brakes (lightly), as the transmission downshifts i can hear a thud/clunk coming from the rear end of my car along with a increase in the rpm's. I also hear it as soon as i let off my foot of the gas pedal or accelerate causing my car to not drive properly and my transmission to hit my suspension very hard. So, i've searched this issue and other bmw forums and found that other people had the same complaints and this exact problem which is dangerous & very scary.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 3251. The contact stated that while driving at various speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. In addition, the contact noticed a strong abnormal odor from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the coil cylinder needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. When the contact took the vehicle to be smogged, the contact was informed that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.
Takata recall - call the dealer about recall and was told i would get a call when the part for the jobs was received. It's been months and have heard nothing from the dealership.
While driving on the freeway my engine just shut off and continues to do so every time i drive my car. So, my brakes and steering lock up because the engine shuts off. My mechanic told me there was a recall dme ms45 - fc28b2, 28aa, 28ac; internal ram faults model e46 m54 with ms45.1 from 9/00 to 7/06e83 m54 with ms45.0/ms45.1 from 9/03 to 9/06e85 m54 with ms45.0 from 10/04 to 1/06e60 m54 with ms45.1 from 9/03 to 3/05situation customers may complain about a crank/no start or a rough start situation. The "service engine soon light" or the dsc light is illuminated, and one of the 3 scenarios may apply:fc 28b2 "rpm limiting reset " is stored in the dme together with one, or more of the following faults which are caused by the 28b2:fc 28ac - "nominal torque",fc 2796 - "throttle flap: adaptation wrong",fc 27a1 - "throttle flap: start check",fc 2869 - "dme self diagnostic: ram check failed".fc 28aa "idle speed regulator" is stored in the dme.fc 28ac "nominal torque" is stored in the dme.cause fault codes 28b2, 28aa and 28ac indicate an internal dme ram fault.procedure perform the appropriate dis/gt1 test modules for the 28b2, 28aa or 28ac.replace the dme if prompted by the dis/gt1 test module results.important: do not replace the throttle body for the throttle faults, stored in conjunction with fc28b2, even when the test plan recommends to do so.please can i get this repaired and covered for all the cost before i kill myself or my grandchildren... Engine vapor separator, hoses, dipstick, and vanos line replacement.this part separates the water vapor from the oil to remove condensation so it doesn't circulate inside the engine.the car was unsafe to drive with a faulty vapor separator and can cause engine vapor lock if it fails.the repair was about $1,400.
The oil filter housing gasket fails on bmw cars.it is a mesh gasket between the engine and the block where the oil enters/exits the filter.the repair is about $600 and fails frequently on these cars.it causes oil to leak onto the block and gives a strong burning oil smell.oil can accumulate on top of the engine depending on the severity of the leak.oil blows and covers the oil filter housing and the inside of the hood with a spray of sticky oil.
When pulling out the dip stick after vehiclewas sitting for a while consumer was unable to read the dip stick.oil spreadin various places on the dip stick.dealer was contacted.
Own a bmw 3251, rear end started making popping noise when put in reverse and when turning curves.when on interstate rear end locked up while driving causing my car to skid through all lanes of traffic.after having car inspected the rear end had broke,we replaced the rear end.also having trouble with head lights staying on and blinkers.right rear tail light over heated and burnt items in trunk.radiator has broke and driverside window regulator and clutch fan.

Car ran perfectly, then i turned off, then i restarted 5 seconds later to reposition in garage.engine then revving from 800 to 1200 rpm rhythmically, approx once per second, eml light on, brake light on, service engine light on,very hard to stop car, had anyone been close i would have hit them.engine revving continued for 2 days, then went away on own.i then took off airbox to inspect maf, filter.codes on 3rd day:p1632 throttle, pending: p0102, iats.there have been other incidents over the years of restarting engine to have extremely rough idle, also cleared on its own,but never surging like this.
1. Transmission: after transmission repair, constant hard downshifting of automatic transmission when coming to a stop in d and s d modes. Vehicle jerks forward when decelerating between speeds of 42 to 35 mph (usually when driven before with speeds in excess of 50 miles an hour). Also, after transmission repair, constant loud thumping noise when coming to a stop2. The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i.the contact stated that the tail lights failed intermittently and would shut off while driving without warning. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting:tail lights) but was advised by the dealer advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was 73,346 and the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.the vin was unavailable.
Right taillamp failure and left taillamp intermittent operation.electrical system repair:right rear taillamp connector and bulb carrier corroded.dealer replaced pigtail harness and bulb carrier with updated design:socket housing, terminal, contact, cable connector, hose, insulation housing, flat contact, cable socket and bulb socket.
Poor connection at rear lamp connector. Bmw. Model e46. ( nhtsa item number - 10020856 ).
Purchased vehicle new while i was stationed with the us air force in germany, to my understanding it was made in germany unlike most 325's at the time.it was produced under us specifications as i'd planned to bring it back to the states.i have continuously had problems over the years with the exterior lighting turn signal acting intermittently as mentioned in recall nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000.however, after contacting my local bmw dealer, and bmw n.a., they have informed me my vin isn't covered under the recall.i believe i may have slipped through the cracks as a vin identified in the recall as my bmw was produced outside the normal channels of bmws affected in north america.i believe this because my vehicle exhibits the exact characteristics of the recall in question.i would like my vin included on the recall as even today driving the vehicle this morning i didn't feel safe because the turn signal is intermittent.
Driving at night has become impossible with out risk.the zkw xenon headlights have become so dim that the fog lights now provide more illumination.the problem has been traced to burned/discolored plastic reflector bowls on both sides with the passenger side being slightly worse.after research it appears this problem is wide spread in zkw headlights.there are several reports here and it appears bmw also realized the problem and had zkw switch to metal reflector bowls on newer models yet offer no solution other than buy complete headlight assembly's to the tune of $1200 a side.might a possible recall motivate bmw to at least offer the individual part.i understand the vehicle is almost 13 years old but to treat a blatant safety issue like this is ridiculous.nhtsa please help solve this safety related problem.
2003 bmw 325i rear tail lights spontaneously and repeatedly quit working.light bulbs replaced and work well.it appears to be a wiring issue.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the rear brake lights failed to illuminate. The contact replaced the bulbs but the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was made aware of recall nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting), but did not receive notification. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
The tail-lights of my bmw 325i have periodically shorted out ever since i purchased the car. The warning light on the dashboard indicates that the light is not functioning correctly, and is not corrected by replacing the bulb. Before my warranty expired bmw replaced the rear tail lamp module which corrected the problem, but already the replacement module has shorted out again. Currently both tail-lights are shorting out.
The purpose of this request is to get bmw to honor a remedy for taillight defect caused as a manufacturing defect.my taillight grounding wires are causing a short on turning signals.further research indicated this has been reported nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000. Affected vehicles 325i - 2002-2005bmw will not honor its proposed remedy with nhtsa, citing the vin has not been identified in recall.i contacted both dealership in sterling va and corporate bmw of america (800-525-7417).bmw of america was contacted 7.15.2019.operator andrea employee # 6266 informed me the car is not covered under remedy.manufacturer: bmw of north america, llc mfr's report date: aug 25, 2011nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 component: exterior lighting:turn signalsummary:bmw is recalling certain model year 2002-2005 325i, 325xi, 330i, and 330xi vehicles manufactured from september 1, 2001, through march 1, 2005. Over time, resistance in the electrical contacts may cause one or more rear lamp functions (tail light, brake light, and/or turn-signal), within the vehicle's body panel, to stop working.consequence:intermittent light operation reduces the ability to warn other motorists of the driver's intentions. This could cause a vehicle crash without warning.remedy:bmw will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during october 2011. Owners may contact bmw customer relations and services at 1-800-525-7417.the recall is for model years 2002-2005 of the 325i, 325xi, 330i and 330xi cars, the munich-based company said today in a posting on the national highway traffic safety administration's website. Lights including tail, brake and turn signals may only work intermittently on the cars, bmw told the auto-safety regulator.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the rear tail light failed. The contact examined the vehicle and found that the rear tail light wires were burned. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number:11v438000 (exterior lighting:turn signal). The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 161,000.
Brake lights and turn signals randomly not working. 2003 bmw 325i. Replaced light bulbs and noticed burnt wires and light sockets. Researched repair and found numerous other owners of same year and make vehicle with same issue.
Tail lights continue to fail on this model.called the manufacturer, bmw, and they said that eventhough a recall exists for 2003 bmw 325i models for tail light failure (id no. 11v4380000), my vin number did not correspond to production run failures under recall.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the exterior tail lights burned through the housing harness. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that his vin was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: tail lights).the manufacturer was notified of the failure who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 60,250.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the rear passenger's side tail light failed. The contact replaced the bulb more than once but the failure recurred.the contact then learned of nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: turn signal). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure and current mileage was 125,000.
Xenon headlight reflectors are melting/burning causing a significant reduction in light output.very simple problem for which there is no fix other than to purchase new headlight assembles for $2,000.seems to affect all xenon headlights produced by zwk for the 2002-2004 3 series bmw.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the brake lights and the turn signals failed. The contact checked the wiring harness and found that the harness was melted. The contact spoke with the manufacturer regarding nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: brake lights), but was told that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
My current vehicle is a 2003 bmw 325i with bi-xenon headlights manufactured by zkw. Over the last year or two, the light output from the xenon headlights had dropped to the point where i get almost no noticeable illumination of the road at night (in average city levels of street illumination). I turned to using my foglamps to be able to see anything. After researching this problem on online forums, i examined the headlights myself and found that the upper portion of the projector bowls seem burned. They are made of plastic and painted with reflective paint, but the upper ~40% of the bowl is now browned and nonreflective. Apparently this is due to an inability of the paint to withstand the high temperatures generated by the xenon bulbs. Also, this seems to be common to many/all zkw brand headlights utilized in 2003-2004 model years of 3 series (e46) bmw vehicles, according to postings on the bmw-owner forums. For now, i have tried to remedy this by lining the burnt portion of the bowl with aluminum foil and can now notice some illumination of the road at night. This further argues that the burning/loss of reflective coating is what causes the loss of light output.
My rear window and the rooftop dont work i can hear the motors but nothing happens a technician explain that the regulatorandlines are brokenits a common thing on my modelhe specified.
The rear stoplights, taillights, and turn signals have failed on multiple occasions.
Multiple blinker and brake lights periodically malfunction on my 2003 bmw 325i.i understand from talking with several other bmw owners that this is a common occurrence due to faulty design involving the grounding of the light fixtures.furthermore, i feel this is a safety issue that bmw should pay to have repaired.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325xi.the tail lightsstopped functioning without any prior warnings. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the entire rear lighting system needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 54000.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact was driving 20 mph when the turn signal failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the turn signal wiring and the brake lights burned out. The manufacturer was contacted where they advised that the vehicle qualified for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: tail lights), but the connector was not included. The vehicle was not repaired and the vin was unavailable. The failure and the current mileages were 110,000.
I have experienced several times when our turn signal light fails to work and the indicator light of failure is shown on the dashboard.the light will work then stop working in short periods of time.i have replaced bulbs on numerous occasions with some success while other times nothing helps.there appears to be some type of electronic problem with the signal lights, especially in the rear of the vehicle.
Low beam reflectors on 2003 zkw hid xenon headlights was burn and scorched and posted as a fire risk.the scorched reflector also reduce the low beam light output and posts as a driving hazard.
Right rear lighting system, to include turn signal and brake light, on my 2003 bmw 325i works intermittently.bmw acknowledged defect in system in si b 63 03 06, dated february 2007 but to date has refused to initiate a recall to fix this safety defect.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. While making a right turn at approximately 5 mph, the turn signal lights failed to illuminate. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: turn signal) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 78,600.
Failure of left rear tail light assembly.connector on wiring assembly has melted.one of the pins on light bulb assembly has disintegrated rendering all lights inoperable.contacted local bmw dealership and was told this is a common problem with this model.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that both rear tail lights failed. The contact was advised of a recall under nhtsa recall campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: tail lights) by his mechanic.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the rear passenger tail light failed. The contact replaced the bulb twice but the failure recurred. The contact mentioned that after inspecting the vehicle he noticed that there was a short in the electrical system. The contact was then informed of recall nhtsa campaign id number: 11v438000 (exterior lighting: turn signal). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls.the failure and current mileage was 100,000.
Thank you.

Also, this seems to be common to many/all zkw brand headlights utilized in 2003-2004 model years of 3 series (e46) bmw vehicles, according to postings on the bmw-owner forums. Reflector bowls can not be purchased and replaced separately and the entire headlamp assembly must be replaced at a cost of appx $2400.zkw has changed the design so there is sufficient evidence to suggest that they and bmw are aware of the design flaw and resulting safety hazard.
The right front headlight will go off sporadically and right rear tail light goes off.the dealer could not correct the headlight problem. The tail light problem began while car was in warranty. Now to correct taillight problem there is update kit which they want me to pay. Since taillight problem began in warranty bmw should cover cost.
The zkw brand of high intensity discharge (hid) headlights equipped in the 2003-2004 e46 model 3 series bmw sedan have a plastic reflector bowl in the projector that has the tendency to have the chrome reflective plating burnt off rendering the headlights all but useless. This makes it dangerous to drive at night because you can barely see the road.the only remedy to this is to replace the entire headlight assemblies for $1200 per side, which is unacceptable for non wear item to occur when the vehicle is between 5 to 7 years old, averaging 50k to 90k miles.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph and when the brake pedal was engaged, the driver side tail light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel intermittently causing the rear driver side tail light to become inoperable. There was a recall related to the similar defect under nhtsa campaign id number 11v438000 (exterior lighting: tail lights). The vin was not included in the recall andthe vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The fuel pump went bad ,and left me stranded on a busy street,it suppose to have a manufacturer warranty for 15years or 150,000 miles from bmw, but they don't honor it at the dealer,i feel this should be a recall due to the fact that the fuel pump is sealed inside the tank, which leaves no access to change the pump, and the dealer is stating that we have to pay 6500.00 for the whole tank.. This should be a recall..

The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i.the contact noticed a crack in the fuel tank that caused gasoline to leak out.each time the gasoline tank is filled, he smells fumes.recently, after filling the vehicle with gasoline, the contact parked his vehicle and observed approximately a quarter tank of fuel on the ground.he took the vehicle to his mechanic and was informed about the crack in the fuel tank.the bmw manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle to the dealer to determine if the fuel tank was cracked.once this has been determined, the contact may be eligible for reimbursement or bmw will repair the vehicle.the failure mileage was 68,172. Updated 8/18/09 the dealer determined the gas tank was not cracked, but the leak was caused by a seal that was installed incorrectly at the fuel pump. Updated 08/21/09.

On 4/27/2015, driving in rush hour traffic at about 5:30 pm, the car stopped moving forward and did not respond to pressing on the gas peddle.fortunately, due to slow traffic, we did not get hit from behind. If this had occurred at night and/or at usual traffic speeds, we could have been seriously injured or killed. 911 responded, pushed us to the shoulder and then aaa towed the car.
The fuel pumps of the super low emission vehicles (sulev) (pzev) 325i models (in ca, me, ma, ny and vt) are enclosed in the stainless steel fuel tank and there is a known 100% failure.bmw has a 15 year/150k warranty but i am contacting you because my car has 192k and is out of warranty.for known defective material and workmanship of the fuel pump, there should have been a recall or at least notification to the owners of such vehicles.in most cases, even when under warranty the bmw dealerships gave owners difficulties and resistance when the fuel pump failed, particularly because the part alone is $6000, not including labor.as many of these sulev models are still on the road and potentially would stop running at any point when the fuel pump clogs or gets blocked, the drivers are potentially placed in danger.my 2003 325i died on the freeway going 70mph but fortunately i was able to safely maneuver to the shoulder.this could have easily caused a multi-car accident but fortunately there weren't many other cars on the freeway at the time.there was nothing i could do but coast to the side of the road.it would not start again and is basically dead in the water now.the local bmw dealership refuses to do anything since it is out of warranty.again, although this affects later model sulev cars, i ask you to please open an investigation, as bmw should stand by their product and reputation by repairing a known defective part that affected or will affect all sulev models.typically the fuel pump fails prior to the 150k mileage, but apparently since i rarely allow my fuel tank to go below a quarter tank, i was able to get an additional 40k.regardless, i think a recall for this major defect is much more important than the rear lamp which did initiate a recall.bmw should be ashamed of themselves and i will never even think of buying another bmw ever again.
I own a 2003 sulev bmw and it needs a fuel pump. This only can be repaired by a dealership due to the fact it has a sealed fuel tank. The cost can be 6 to 8000.00dollars. I was told there is an extended warranty for a sulev car. 150000 mi or 15 years. I called bmw and they never heard of that warranty. Can you please help.thank you
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i.
The drivers side door would not open either with the keyless remote or by pulling on the door handle inside the car (the windows were down so i could reach inside)i had to open the passenger door and climb across the seat to get into the driver's seat.the button between the seats to unlock all of the doors also failed to open any of the locks.the hazard light switch beside it still worked, so i know the problem isn't due to that faulty switch.this door locks returned to normal after driving the car about 30 minutes and it hasn't yet returned in the five days since.
2003 bmw 325i 4-door sedan - problem: electric door locks will not always unlock with key fob. Persistent with colder ambient temperatures (less than 65 degrees f). I can unlock drivers door with key, but no other doors unlock.issue: the door locks double-lock meaning when doors are locked, they can't be opened from outside or inside (by pulling on handle). The only door that unlocks with interior handle pull is drivers door. If vehicle is in an accident my passengers will not be able to unlock their doors to exit vehicle! they are basically locked inside. This is a big safety issue, especially if there is a danger of fire or some other event that necessitates quickly exiting the car.my research: i've basically narrowed it to the gm5 module that controls the door locking and unlocking. This module controls some other vehicle functions as well. The door locking function works great, but unlocking is sporadic with ambient temperature fluctuations.opinion: there should be an investigation opened on this issue. Reading several bmw user forums this appears to be a common problem across many vehicle years. The double-locking door locks are a nice anti-theft feature, but are dangerous if the system malfunctions. Bmw must acknowledge a defect is present in the gm5 module and take appropriate action.
Vehicle has recurring locking issue.when inside the vehicle, door locks stop functioning. Pressing door lock button will not work.pressing button on remote will not work.attempting to manually open door using door handle will not work.this is a safety issue.the last incident both myself and my child were trapped inside the vehicle in the heat and had to call 911 as we did not have the key to roll down the window.the front window had to be broken and we had to be removed through a window because the door locks would not release.we were taken to the hospital for heat stroke.when i investigated,i found a girl died due to the same issue.why has there been no recall?you have been warned and this is a fatal issue.here is the link to the girls death:http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-girl-trapped-in-bmw-dies-20140509-story.html.
The doors will not unlock in my 2003 325i 4 door sedan.apparently, a module goes bad and could trap people in the car with no way to get out.
2003 bmw 325i 4-door sedan. Driver's side door lock will not unlock. Happens all the time. Started about a year ago. I have gone online and found many other people have same problem. Seems to me to be a safety issue. If i can't get out of the car.
The contact owns a2003 bmw 325i. While the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted numerous times to access the exterior front driver's side door with the remote key fob and also manually however, the lock mechanism would not open. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who informed the contact that thedoor lock, remote key fob and power door actuator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the key failed to unlock every door. In addition, the locking mechanism switch failed to unlock the doors while inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was unlocked through the window of the vehicle manually. The front passenger side door was the only door that would not unlock manually. The battery warning indicator illuminated. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000. The vin was not available.
The vehicle down shifted very hard when the brakes were applied, the vehicle jerked and jumped forward when decelerating.
Problems with transmission on 2003 bmw 325i.*mrwhile driving the vehicle's transmission lagged followed by surging when shifting from park, neutral, reverse then drive when the engine was cold.initially the dealer indicated that the transmission needed to be replaced, but three months later it was determined that the transmission needed to be reprogrammed.the dealer has not contacted the consumer in almost 2 weeks to perform this service.
Vehicle's transmission is not engaging when starting from a stationary position. *mr the engine would rev up to 3-4000, but the vehicle would creep, lurch forward and speed up normally.this would usually occur when the vehicle sat overnight.the problem also occurred when backing up. *sc
Bought 2003 bmw 325i brand new. After driving it for 4 years (39,800milies) it started making a thumb sound and started losing transmission power and the gear indication light turns on. Brought to dealership and i thought it was fixed. It was always happening until the warranty expired. I can not use the car specially during cold weather. This problem was happening on the highway and city street while in motion. Most of the time the car is in the garage. I can not believe that at only 39,800 miles, this car is going to have such a major problem. But i believe this a transmission issue. This car still looks mint because of rare usage.
2003 bought brand new.automatic transmission does not engage in the mornings. After parking car in garage overnight, the car is put went into reverse and backed out without stepping on the gas (driveway is sloped).after shifting into drive, the car lags anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds before there is any power to drive.this is specially dangerous when there is traffic.
Driving on 12/12/2019 on interstate highway about 65mph, going straight, when all of a sudden rear wheels (this is rwd - 2003 bmw 325i) locked up completely - the vehicle went forward at about 45 degrees sideways before it straightened out when the speed dropped. Thankfully i did not hit anybody, and no one hit me although there was quite a bit of traffic on this multi lane interstate.i got aaa tow it home. He had to drag it onto the truck bed as the rear wheels continued to be locked up. When i removed and opened the differential tapered roller bearing rollers were in the oil space. Looking to see where they jammed the system up i noticed marks on the carrier. It appears rollers jammed up in between the carrier and the inner wall of the differential box - see photographs. They may also have jammed up in between the gearing but i did not notice marks on the teeth but did not have time to spend to look more closely.
I have a formerly pristine bmw 325i 2003with 70kmithat had a sudden, catastrophic transmission failure for unidentifiable reasons while being driven near sacramento. The car was towed to a bmw dealer in sacramento who claimed they had "never seen anything like it", yet consumeraffairs.com has over 20 pages of complaints about this specific problem. Unfortunately, though we were able to locate a used transmission, the dealer refused to install anything other than a brand new unit at the cost of $6,000. Clearly there is something defective in these transmissions. It appears that bmw of north american has refused to accept any responsibility.
I went to start my vehicle in the morning and it started and then turned back off on its own. This happened about 3 times, before it stayed on. I then drove the vehicle about 40 miles and the transmissions started to thump. The vehicle only has 100k miles. I kept up on all its maintenance. I took the vehicle to the dealership and the transmission light and check engine light both came on. I was informed it would cost 6,500 to repair my transmission.
Automatic transmission on 2003 325i jerks when downshifts while braking.a laud thud can be heard on lower speeds.
Engine:intermittent loud engine revving and immediate torque loss occurring when taking off from a stop.intermittent delayed engine start of up to 3 seconds after turning key in ignition .intermittent prm idle fluctuation resulting in vehicle shuddering3. Brakes:loud break squeaking when coming to a stop4. Fuel tank / fuel pump:after defective fuel tank/pump replacement, recurrence of loud whining noise ( confirmed with bmw of north america) 5. Cd player: intermittent built-in business cd player skipping 6.steering wheel: steering wheel creaking when turning.
My 2003 325i bmw has a defect in the transmission which caused it to, without warning, lose its ability to go into reverse.i was returning to philadelphia from nyc several days ago. I pulled over for gas. When i put the car into reverse, the transmission acted like it is in neutral. The engine would rev but was not engaged. The car has only 70k miles on it. Theproblem is widespread in owners of early 2000 bmws and results from a reverse drum that is poorly manufactured and not sufficiently thick around the edges. Apparently, bmw corrected the manufacturing problem in 2003. It never shared info about the issue with prospective owners, in effect selling cars under false pretense. Please visit www.noreverse.org and you will see hundreds of complaints about this issue.it is a safety issue because the driver may be in a dangerous position and need to reverse for get out of harm's way. Bmw should have recalled all of these defective transmissions. I cannot afford to repair the car and so it is simply sitting on my street.
Vehicle thrusts forward despite the brake pedal being depressed.*mr consumer had to press both feet to keep vehicle from jumping into the intersection.also, consumer had to shift gear from drive to neutral.*la

Went to go into reverse after coming home from a shopping spree and the car simply would not reverse. After a few days it finally went into reverse. Engine light stays on and there are transmission codes on the indicator from this. Can't afford to fix this problem but there are several reports on the 325 i bmw.
Defective 5-speed transmission at 17,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the front driver seat head rest was turned at an angle that prevented the contact from driving comfortably. The contact also mentioned that the front passenger seat rail was loose. The dealer stated that the failures were abnormal and both seats needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 119,000.
Srs warning lamp illuminated. Passenger discriminating sensor defective, replacement required to eliminate mil and restore srs to operating condition.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. While driving at an unknown speed, the passenger seat heater was activated. After five minutes, the contact noticed a burn hole on the passenger seat and smoke coming from the hole. The contact deactivated the passenger seat heater and poured water to extinguish the smoke. The contact also discovered that parts of both the driver and passenger seat were melted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. While driving 55 mph, there was a grinding noise coming from the brakes. The failure recurred a few times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the drums and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 11,100.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal grinding when the brakes were depressed. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised that the brakes and the rotors failed. The brake sensor light never illuminated to warn the driver that the pads needed to be replaced and the dealer was unsure as to why the warning light never illuminated. The failure and current mileage was approximately 84,000.
Brake light malfunction due to corrosion of wires within the housing of the brake light. Bmw corporate is aware of the problem, but has yet to recall it.

My cousin was on his way to get on interstate.....all of sudden his 2003 bmw 325i steering wheel locked as he tried to leave from a parking lot...he had to brake hard and glad there was nothing on his way...i m just glad that this didn't happen while he was in interstate.....this all happen around 6pm-7pm...so he called bmw and had towed to local dealer...they called us back on 3rd day and told us our power steering pump went bad and we will have to replace it....and they want me pay for this and price tag is about $1200....please check on this issue and see if this can be major recall....i m sure this must have happen in past or may happen to cars that are on our interstate which may carry little children's or young kids like my cousin....
Power steering pump breaking, looked up online and its a common problem with this type car, very dangerous if driving down road when it breaks, especially if its a know problem
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i.while driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions, the contact had to use greater force to turn the steering wheel.the failure occurred without warning.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the power steering pump.currently, the vehicle is inoperable and has not been repaired.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure and current mileages were 40,400.

I have encountered the following problems many times since purchasing the car. The problems started at mileage of about 2000. The steering lost function at low speed when making turn (can't make turn). The engine also died at very low speed. We have to restart the engine every time such problems happens. I reported to local dealers and they were unable to identify the underlying problems.
2003 bmw 325i.while driving our bmw, the power steering failed without warning.there were not visible leaks, vibrations, or unusual noises from the system.when the pump was removed and disassembled, there appeared to be a catastrophic failure of the impeller blade/blades inside the pump.shards of metal from the impeller blade(s) also went into the power steering rack.had this happened in a different situation it could have resulted in loss of vehicle control and perhaps a major accident.we still have the old pump.
The door locks stop working periodically where only the drivers door will unlock with the key.at that time, the rear and passenger doors will not unlock with the remote or the button in the center console or by pulling on the door release inside the doors.the bmw usually unlocks the door with the first pull and then opens with the second, but when this is happening, the door release (door handle) on the inside does nothing.this results in only the drivers door opening and i have to reach back over the seats to unbuckle my kids and then pull them out over the back of the drivers seat.so long as we start outside the car, it just makes the back seats unusable.but if i lock the doors while the kids are in the car while driving and this happens, we get into the scary/freaky situation.i verified the child safety locks aren't engaged for the doors that disable the interior door handles/releases.i don't know what causes this to happen, it just happens periodically and then goes away with nothing i can see as a cause.i have video of this happening, but the file formats listed do not include videos.
The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the key failed to unlock every door. In addition, the locking mechanism switch failed to unlock the doors while inside of the vehicle. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2003 bmw 325i. The contact stated that the vehicle surged forward and the rpms raced without warning. The contact experienced the failure while accelerating from a stop. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to ensure that the vehicle did not surge when at a stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer more than twice, but they were unable to provide a solution and stated that further diagnostic testing was needed. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 03v124000 (vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting for them to provide a solution to the dealer. The failure mileage was not available.

The bottom part of the rearview mirror 'more than 50%- has become unusable. Some kind of reddish fluid leaks in and gradually is blocking the rear view.this is a safety hazard because the driver cannot see most vehicles or pedestrians behind us.i realize after some internet research that this is a common problem.as another complainant on this site observed, 'we expected better from bmw'.they told him to pound sand, it was his problem to fix after the warranty period, and they would only fix it if forced to do a recall (namely, forced by the people acting through their government.)so, thus far (13 years) neither bmw nor the nhtsa is willing to act on this.shame on both of you. Pray not, but eventually a poor driver will not have realized that his rear view mirror has so filled with fluid that he cannot see to the rear at all, and there'll be some horrific accident as a result.then won't we see bevies of corporate and official boobies wringing their hands and telling the media 'how could thie have happned?'

Windshield wipers "auto" position causes wipers to fail to suddenly fail to operate during rain conditions.also, can cause distracting sweeps of the wipers with no rain or water, anywhere near the car or windshield sensor.oddly, dealership technicians were unable to repair; service writers refused to write it up as "normal" operation.bmw field service engineer noted the windshield sensor (which also contains controls for automatic lights) was massively delaminated from the windshield, thus requiring the replacement of the entire windshield for this small part.issues:1.normal "erratic" operation of wipers (and automatic headlights) is acceptable to bmw service writers.2.wipers are a critical safety function, yet with bmw's system they can apparently operate erratically due to a bad sensor "bond" with the windshield.3.the cost of a replacement windshield is high--out of warranty many drivers may not bother to address this issue given the massive cost (and absurdity) of replacing an otherwise perfect windshield.this could lead to an accident if the driver were to be in the "auto" wiper function with a failed system.please feel free to contact me if you would like additional information.mark [email protected]
