The airbag icon on the instrument panel stays on. My machanic told me this means that a passenger sitting in the front seat does not activate the sensor in the seat and, as a result, the air bag would not deploy in case of a collision. So i asked them to repair it, after paying about $700, about8 months later it popped back on , so i'm seriouly looking to trade this car.

Received notification from bmw usa for recall campaign no. 14v-428 (defective front seat passenger air bag) last september 2014.as of today's date (march 11, 2015), bmw usa has not informed me when i can expect them to perform the work needed to rectify the defective front passenger air bag.their suggestion that i operate the vehicle without a front seat passenger is ludicrous and virtually impractical.

Airbag warning light with a takata recall notice. My 2000 323i has a airbag seatbelt warning light that will not go away. The vehicle was damage from the rear end passenger side. Repair work was done to correct the damages.

While drivingdriver's side air bag deployed inadvertently.driversustained head injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The contact owns a 2000 bmw 325i.sporadically, the air bag warning indicator would illuminate on the instrument control panel, which indicated that the air bags were inoperative.the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failure.the failure mileage was 107,000 and current mileage was 110,000.

The contact owns a 2000 bmw 3 series. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v428000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2000 bmw 3 series. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v428000 (air bags) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.the vin was not available.

Dt:the contact stated the driver's side air bag deployed while drivingon the highway. There was no prior warning. The contactandmechaniccontacted the manufacturer, and they offered no assistance. Updated 12/14/2005.

The contact owns a 2000 bmw 323ci.while driving between 40-45 mph, the front driver's side tire exploded.the contact lost control of the vehicle and ended up on the median.shortly after, the rear driver's side tire exploded.while the vehicle was still on the median, the air bags deployed on the passenger side.the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and was not injured.she pushed the vehicle half of the distance towards her residence and the tow truck took it to the service center.the insurance company informed her to file a complaint on the air bags.the failure mileage was 95,000.

Takata recall!! i was driving 35 mph on a regular street i always drive on and mid drive both passanger and driver air bags deployed for no reason!!!! causing very serious injuries!! also causing more damage to my car!!!!

I ran over a curb going about 25miles a hour going while around a bend. The passenger side head airbag deployed for no reason. There was no damage to the vehicle at all. This happened once. Nothing has been done to correct failure. The car is a bmw 323ci coupe.

Rear lights . Clip contacts melting ground wire . Purchased lights and clips3 times and melted again. Lights inoperable after 2 weeks of life harness melted . Received multiple warnings and a ticket i now have to prove repair . Recall found for every other model except the 323i 2000 . Not safe to have no tail lights available . Can't drive car in unsafe conditions. Can't sell car in unsafe condition

While driving on highway heater setting on warm, smoke filled the cabin.smoke was coming from center console and left side of glove box from underneath. Had to stop the vehicle in the middle of the highway and escape the smoke filled cabinthe smoke turn to a flame from under the glove box. The car proceeded to totally burn from this incident. I reviewed the schematics to identify the only heating dissipating element located under there is the fsr blower motor controlsmoke appeared suddenly.

I experienced a typical problem with my 2000 bmw 323ci ,as the subframe began to tear after only 57000 miles of use. After some complaining, i was able to get bmw to "goodwill" the repairs. But as soon as i picked up the car after the repairs were completed, the emergency brake parking light began to malfunction.it would come on when the brake was released etc. A couple weeks later the traction control light began to do the same thing. I didn't think too much of it, but now about 9 months later i have experienced severe electrical problems. First all the power stopped working, the headlights blinked, a/c and windows stopped working, power locks no longer worked. Then it somehow fixed itself. But a couple weeks after, something else happened and now i cannot even start my car. Again, it appears to be some sort of power problem, perhaps something draining the battery.

I have a 2000 bmw 323 ci convertible and have problems with the remote trunk release. Neither the key fob nor the release button function; the only way to get into the trunk is with the key in the lock.i did some online research learned two things.1. This is a very common problem.(type 'bmw trunk release problem' into a search engine to see the extent.)while the problems i have are merely annoying, it is not hard to imagine them being far worse.2. The problem is in the harness where the wiring goes from the body to the trunk lid.this link is contains several pictures of exactly what i found when i pulled my harness back: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=248956.in my case, there are three completely broken wires, one that is hanging on by a few strands, and about 4 more where the insulation is at least partially cracked.yes, the car is 10 years old, but this seems like a major design flaw to me.

The brake lights and turn signals don't work...the transmission- reverse has gone out...and the radiator has a serious leak...makes the car run hot!

Cylinder head crack - 9/5/03 water pump freeze, drive belt tear/broken - 11/9/01 3 windows (regulator broken) driver side 2 times

The car will not go in reverse.

Reverse gear (automatic transmission) stopped working without warning.car acts as if it is neutral, engine just revs.car has been well maintained.was surprised to find it is a very common occurrence with this model, and that there is a website devoted to the problem (noreverse.org).also learned that a recall was issued for cadillacs that used the same transmission and had the same problem.

My 2000 3 series bmw has stopped going in reverse.at all.it's very dangerous as i was in traffic yesterday at a red light when a semi truck turned the corner in front of me and needed me to back up.i was stuck behind a van that was able to go in reverse and of course expected me to follow suit, and i couldn't!i've been reading online and all over the world people are having this same problem over and over again with this particular series of bmw.i've only had my car a year.it has a little over 100k miles on it.i absolutely cannot afford the 3-5k it will cost to replace it.there are so many complaints on the web.please have this recalled before it turns into another toyota debacle.it's not fair.

The contact owns a 2000 bmw 323ci. The contact stated the vehicle had been parked for approximately twenty minutes when he was informed there was yellow smoke pouring through the interior of the vehicle. Suddenly, the vehicle erupted into twenty foot flames from the dashboard area. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A fire report was available. The vehicle was parked next to a building which was partially damaged. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer advised an investigator would further inspect the cause of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was approximately 83,000.

The reverse gear stop working.

The car transmission will not go in reverse.the issue happens suddenly with no warning, and acts exactly as if you were in neutral gear.there is a dedicated site called http://www.noreverse.org that documents thousands of cases from bmw owners that have the same problem.bmw north america has acknowledged that its transmissions in vehicles 1999-2003 have this issue, but fails to offer any assistance on this huge safety issue.in november, i pulled out of my driveway normally to drive to work.when i arrive at work and attempted to reverse into the space, the car acted like it was in neutral.the vehicle continues to act this way.all other gears work normal (meaning it drives fine forward), it is just that you cannot engage reverse.

During hwy operation of my vehicle, without warning the coolant expansion tank ruptured with a 7 inch long gap.

The fan of the air conditioning system stops, even though the display shows the fan is running.

Rear lights . Clip contacts melting ground wire . Purchased lights and clips3 times and melted again. Lights inoperable after 2 weeks of life harness melted . The brake lights and turn signals don't work...the transmission- reverse has gone out...and the radiator has a serious leak...makes the car run hot!

The fuel tank support strap bracket on my 2000 bmw 323ci coupe snapped off without warning. It happened while driving, i noticed a loud metallic grinding sound coming from underneath the car. I stopped, and noticed an 18 inch metal strap being dragged along the ground, still attached at one end (rear end) of the fuel tank. The front side of the strap had disconnected from the car and the fuel tank on the passenger side had dropped several inches, and was 'dangling' to some extent - it bounced up and down when pushed. The weld that broke was holding the front side of the fuel tank support strap, on the passenger side of the car. It appears that a small amount of metal had torn out of the frame that the bracket was attached to. The car is currently being repaired by a mechanic. To repair it, they need to remove the entire fuel tank and weld the bracket back onto the frame, so that the support strap can be re-attached. I have been quoted $600.

There is two issues with the 2000bmw 323ci the first one is a bearing problem on the wheels, they go bad for no reason and the tire gets all loose, the seccond is the fuel tank strap that holds the tank in place broke for no reson when i was driving this is the first time i ever see a strap brake off !!!!

There is a major problem with the reverse on these vehicles.we thought we had a unique problem but it is a obvious that this is a widespread problem.i found 359 complaints on our yr/make/model on this website alone.also numerous complaints on a website called no reverse.org.our bmw will not go into reverse.i have learned to park on an incline so i can roll backwards out of a parking space.bmw needs to do a recall.they are loosing faithful customers by not addressing the issue.if there is a class action lawsuit, i want to be a part of it. Bmw reps at customer service decline to help so far.

The car will not go in reverse.

I was preparing to back out of my driveway.the vehicle acted as though it was in "neutral" and did not make any noise or motion.the reverse never showed any signs of trouble.i have been driving the car on a limited basis over the past four months.a short time prior to this, i began to notice a slight vibration in the car while accelerating between the speeds of 25 mph and 30 mph driving forward.it was subtle and actually began to go away.i never experienced any unusual stress, noise, or difficulties while going into reverse prior to finding it completely gone today.i feel extremely fortunate that this occurred in my driveway and did not involve an emergency situation.i fear that it could have put me and my family in great bodily harm, had i not been so lucky.i fear for what this may cost to repair or even evaluate, since many online have expressed a similar situation resulting in thousands of dollars worth of repairs.

Well documented no reverse issue for bmw gm transmission d-clutch fracture.

The reverse gear stop working.

Great car until parked at grocery store and car would not back up when put in reverse. Only 75000 miles. Bmw dealer wanted $6000 to replace with factory rebuilt transmission. Contacted bmw customer service and they refused to participate in repair. Offered to contact dealer and ask for 10% reduction. Never heard back. Last bmw for me. Very frequent failure per the internet and this site.

Car just stopped going into reverse.this is a issue that is common in many other 2000 3 series.

The car all of a sudden stopped going into reverse. I had to push it to get our of the parking spot and went straight home. The next morning, the reverse gear decided to work so i decided to take it for test drive again and it failed to go into reverse again. There are thousands of bmw owners that complain about the same problem with the reverse gear. There needs to be a recall from bmw to take care of this issue.

The car suddenly stopped going into reverse.works in drive.

Bmw 3 series suddenly no reverse gear . No warning no anything just stops working . Seems to be a common problem with this series bmw . How is it that bmw/na will not take responsibility for this . There are no recalls butlots of people are experiencing this transmission problem . Any advice or help ?

The contact owns a 2000 bmw 325ci. While turning the vehicle on and shifting in reverse the vehicle would not drive in reverse when the accelerator pedal was engaged. She had to push the vehicle out of the parking space so that she could shift into drive gear. The dealer was contacted and stated that they never heard about the failure occurring on these vehicles. She stated that the vehicle would not shift in reverse gear. No repairs were made to the vehicle at this moment. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.

2000 bmw 323 ci will not go into reverse.

I own a 2000 bmw 323ci. It has been very well maintained and just today the reverse gear went out just like that, without notice. I've been reading online and i have found out that this kind of problem should have been a recall from bmw. I am in need of help to take care of this problem since i need this car for work.

2000 bmw 323 ci convertible.reverse stop to work suddenly, i parked my car over the driveway yesterday them next day afternoon i went to the store to buy some groceries, i made a bad turn and i was trying to get on the road, my reverse did not work.i never feel a symptom about this problem on the car o gradual failure just stop to work, magic.

2000 bmw 323ci will not move when in reverse gear; the car behaves as if it is neutral. This happened suddenly, with no warning. The car had no issues leading up to this, no warning lights, etc. The car has been immaculately maintained and serviced. There are literally hundreds of complaints on the web, including at your forum, about this identical problem.

I have a 2000 323ci bmw and all of sudden my reverse stop working for no reason at all. I been up to date with my taking care of it and one day it just stop working, the reverse just doesn't do nothing, i haven't done anything to try to correct it because simply is to much for me the cost for it is 4,000 dollars and i just don't have the money to do it, i feel its not fair what bmw has done, with this problem that bmw 3 series are suspect on doing.i read online this is a common problem with certain bmws and i'm wondering why bmw hasn't issued a recall since this is a safety issue as well as an identified common problem.

I own a 2000 bmw 323ci convertible with automatic transmission, with 77,000 miles on it. The vehicle has had one previous owner and has been meticulously cared for and serviced. Last week (9/4/07) the car would not go into reverse. The bmw dealer has told me that the vehicle needs the whole transmission replaced at a cost of $5,000. I did some research on the internet and found that this appears to be a common problem with this vehicle. I cannot afford to pay for this repair.

I'm the original owner of a 2000 323i with the automatic transmission. The car is carefully driven and cared for.for the past 7 years, vancouver brian jessel bmw has performed all of the maintenance. It now has 75,000 km. This morning when i went to back my car out of the driveway, it would not go into reverse. It feels like it's in neutral. When i checked on the internet, i was shocked to see how many other bmw owners are experiencing the same problem. It is obvious that the problem is caused by the factory defect on the transmission. Bmw should take responsibility to fix the problem at their cost.

No wreck, no previous problem. Just no reverse!!!!

I went to back my 2000 bmw 323ci into a parking spot and it acted as if it was in neutral.

Automatic transmission on 2000 bmw 323ci with 52,000 miles failedin reverse only. Properly maintained and driven less than 10,000 miles per year. Initial diagnosis cost $327.00, and told estimated cost of replacing transmissionwas$5500.00. No reason found as to why the transmission failed. Told that if keep driving the car that the entire transmission will eventually fail whichwasa serious danger on the highway.

Transmission failure twice!! first failure occurred on 4/20/02 with 49,123 miles. From the complaints i've read looks as though the failures all occur between 40,000 - 50,000 miles. The transmission is supposed to good to 100,000 not 40,000!! please help!

2000 bmw 323i no reverse gear...went to bmw dealer and they didn't want to check what's wrong, all they wanted is to change the whole transmission for $5500...i looked on internet and it seems that thousands of people having same issue with this car...hope something can be done and bmw will call our cars for recall...i thing they should repair it at no cost since it is there pure reverse clutch engineering. Thank you

Car was in perfect condition, taken care of as needed. Always oil changes etc. Got off of work one day, car does not go into reverse. Will go forwards, not in reverse. The only way to fix it is to get a new transmission, a $6000 fix. Found a website with over 100 similar incidents.

My transmission stopped working in reverse on my bmw 323ci which only has less than 68,000 miles.there were numerous complaints for the same problem.this should be recalled.i have never heard of a transmission failing so early.

Car does not go on reverse. Drive it for about 5 miles or so and the reverse works. Leave it turned off and most of the time, the reverse wont work again.. It's frustrating.

Reverse gear of transmission went out around 100,000 miles.no issues prior to failure.transmission was replaced by dealer at consumer's cost.

2000, bmw without warning showed sign of the dreaded no reverse transmission problem documented on several website. For example noreverse.org.

A week and a half ago i took thewell maintained 2000 323ci bmwto dealer for the60,000 mile service, costing over $700.00 for normal? servicing.a day after the service i had to return the car as i had found washer fluid pooled under the vehicle in the garage. I was told the washer pumpfailed, i then paid an additional $100.00 to have it fixed. A week later i put thecar in reverse to go down the driveway and heard a loud ?bang. The car would not engage in reverse. I had the car towed to the dealership and today they informed me the transmission failed, which would cost over $5,000.00 for repair. I was just thankful that this didn't happen on the road.the dealership service representative i have been working withstated that bmw was aware that there wereproblemswith the transmission placed in certain bmw vehicles, specifically a transmission used in the 3 series made by gm. I then went on line to consumeraffairs.com and noted hundreds of similar complaints about the 3 series transmission failure and bmw offailing to take responsibility for this. Blog entries expressed the obvious frustration, enormous costs and the possibility of filing a class action suit because the faulty transmission was obviously a manufacturing defect and should be recalled.obviously my complaintwa s two-fold: 1. The ultimate driving mechanismhad a risk factor in safety in that there was obviously a design defect in the transmissions used, causing the transmission to go out while operating ,and the only other replacement transmission that can be put in was the same type which might suggest the same incident could happen again . 2.) the cost/repair factorwas unexpected and ridiculous because thiswas not a driver or service neglect problem but one of design. Was this a matter for recall and or class action suit?

My 2000 323 ci bmw "no reverse ". With only 69,000 miles on it properly maintained and serviced, on april 5 2009 the cars reverse gear won't engage ,its like putting it in neutral but is actually in reverse, the car drives forward without any problems. Brought it to bmw dealership and was told i need a new transmission. Transmission failure rates of the above car is very high that they have a special website for such trany failure www.noreverse.org. Bmw needs to address these complaints and maybe held responsible for defects of the above transmission.

2000 bmw 323ci will not move when in reverse gear; the car behaves as if it is neutral. This happened suddenly, with no warning. Sub frame tore from car rear chassis on a 2000 bmw 323ci, very dangerous and may cause serious accident.

Differential sub-frame failure. Car has independant rear suspension and differential is carried in an aluminum sub-frame that is attached to chassis with four large bushings. Driver's side rear bushing has pulled out of frame of car with visible cracking of metal surrounding the area.

Airbag warning light with a takata recall notice. My 2000 323i has a airbag seatbelt warning light that will not go away. The vehicle was damage from the rear end passenger side. Repair work was done to correct the damages.

I'm just concern if there is a recall to be fixed on my car (2000 bmw x3 2.5i) i've noticed 2x already that while driving on the freeway my gas pedal accelerates speed. In december 2010 while driving on a slight snow, the car won't stop for a second when applying brakes; my front rotor and brakes were being replaced on march 7, 2011 at the dealer. My main concern here is the gas pedal acceleration. I would like to know how can i get a free maintenance free check service.

The rear differential is completely torn away from the sub-frame caused either by weak sheet metal used or poor design.as a result countless other bmw e46 owners have experienced the same.should this actually tear completely off the vehicle, it has the potential to cause a major accident and a possible fatality. Please see the picture of my vehicle at http://jayhowell.servebeer.com/images/bmw/subframe/subframedamage.jpg.

Vehicle started making strange noises from the rear suspension while driving.took it to a mechanic who confirmed this was the subframe of the car tearing away from the unibody.he also stated that this is a frequent occurrence in the e46 and e36 bmw model vehicles and has seen it before.went online to several resources and confirmed there are many owners who experienced the same problem with their subframe tearing, cracking, or complete torn away.

I have a 2000 bmw 323 ci convertible and have problems with the remote trunk release. Neither the key fob nor the release button function; the only way to get into the trunk is with the key in the lock.i did some online research learned two things.1. I took my year 2000, bmw 328ci in to replace a rear differential bushing. The mechanic discovered frame damage where the driver-side rear differential bushing attaches to the car body/frame. The mechanic suggested i call my insurance agent to see if this was covered. The insurance company sent an investigator who informed me over the phone & email (including photo attachments) that the damage could not be caused by any collision and was not covered by my insurance policy. The agent stated that this was a bmw issue. He also sent a link of a video of another bmw 3 series with similar problem showing metal fatigue http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8362789948066992482# .i sent photos of the damage to another mechanic who specializes in bmw repair. He said it was not something seen everyday but something bmw knows about based on what he has read. He also stated this was a safety issue and suggested i call the bmw dealership and ask about any recalls. I called the bmw dealer who asked for my vin # and then said there were "no open campaigns at this time".i called the dealership on 10/25/2011.the estimated cost of repair is around $5000, which is almost the same as the kelley blue book value of the car.i was informed that the car is not safe to drive in this condition.

I heard a squeaking noise coming from the rear end, took it to my mechanic, and was told the subframe has torn off of the rear suspension. He checked to see if there is a recall, but none has been found. He did notice online that this has been an ongoing problem, with many complaints, and that a class action lawsuit had been filed.

A horrible creaking noise starting developing in the rear of my 2000 bmw 323ci (with 82000 miles) while driving. The noise has gotten worse with time, and after a thorough search online on the www.e46fanatics.com forum website, i found many other owners of vehicles with the same chassis experencing the same problem. Further searching lead to a common problem that has been linked to the failure of the driver side rear subframe. This section of the chassis fails under prolonged stress and a crack in the chassis of the vehicle develops, exposing a bare component of the rear suspension and ultimately damaging the suspension system, causing the vehicle to be unsafe to drive. The problem is not recognized by bmw of north america, however the problem is recently beginning to surface among many late model bmw cars owners as this part seems to fail after an extended period of time. Nonetheless, this is a dangerous problem that is not isolated to a select few vehicles, but enough to raise alarm and suspicion. I was very surprised and dissappointed to find that my vehicle has experienced this exact failure just out of warranty.

I have a 2000 323ci bmw my problem is the weld from the straps that hold the gas tank detached from the metal there seem to be e defect on the weld and the gas tank dropped to the floor!! please don't wait for someone to get hurt before something is done about it!!i drilled some holes and attached a metal plate through the inside of the body(metal to weak) then i used bolts and pressure washers to reattach it!

The rail of sunroof has broken three times in the past 6 years, and it has only been used a few times a year.

Sub frame tore from car rear chassis on a 2000 bmw 323ci, very dangerous and may cause serious accident.

Torn subframe where rear end is secure to chassis subframe.

I bought this vehicle in mid april, 2006. A month after my purchase i began to notice creaking sounds coming from the rear of the car under normal acceleration, primarily in 1st gear. Upon further inspection i found the rear subframe to be tearing from the unibody on the driver's side. This is a major safety issue and must be addressed before someone gets seriously injured. Too many people ignore tell tale signs coming from their vehicles, if bmw is unwilling to do anything for the repair, the least they could do is send a notice to recommend an inspection to any 3-series owner. Repairing this costs money, not life and limb. Please bmw and the nhtsa, lets keep it that way.

Rear subframe of car tearing out of body.

While driving i heard a squeaking noise coming from the rear.i took the car to get an oil change at bmw dealership and they then informed me of the subframe tearing away.no way the should happen so many times to any vehicle.dangerous and should be addressed immediately by bmwna.

Noticed squeaking sounds from the back of the car.took it to the bmw dealer and they told me that the subframe was seprated from the body where the shock absorbers are attached.if you look underneath the care you see a large cracked in the chassis.they quoted 4k to fix the problem.i started looking on the web for the problem and found many incident of this issue.got a hold of an engineer inside bmw and basically bmw knew about this problem and decided not to fix it.this is more frequently observed in more powerfull engine.the torque of the engine is causing the sheetmetal of the body to be stressed and eventually crack. I have been contacting the bmw for two weeks and they are very uncooperative.this a design flaw and they should recall it and fix it.this is a serious problem, the back of the car could essentially fall off and cause an accident.is bmw waiting for people to have accident and die before they recall this?

I recently found out that my subframe on my 2000 bmw 328ci was cracking . This was a problem that bmw has not fixed prior to the release of this vehicle. The previous e36 model has been a victim of this malfunction.i was browsing websites regarding my dilemma and i found that 40+ vehicles have had this subframe issue.this is one website (many more) and here is the link...http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=195602&page=21&pp=20&highlight=subframethere are numerous amounts of other websites where this problem will be mentioned. Also, there is a repair kit that www.turnermotorsports.com makes for this car because it is an occurring problem. Here is the link....http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?product_id=tdr4675412bimmer magazine also has a section informing consumers about the e46 and the subframe problem. It is in this months issue.bmw should recall this issue before someone gets hurt. My car has 60k miles and my warranty just expired. I paid a local body shop to temporarily fix this problem until bmw could repair this problem. This is obviously a dangerous issue that bmw should resolve.if this subframe cracks while driving, an accident will occur. Most people drive with children in that back seat and they could possibly be injured. Please speak with bmw and have them issue a recall for this.regards, thanh dinh.

The technician discovered that my subframe has started to fail. Today i had my bmw in for a normal brake service at my repair facility. They noticed my subframe is starting to crack along the mounting points. This is usually not found in an automatic transmission bmw especially since the car is a non m3, it's just a 328ci coupe.

The rear subframe of my car used a thin metal to hold it and i was draiving my car in it cracked. Any further use would result in the collapse of the rear part of the car. I have it welded and reinforced.

Broken rear subframe mount - has occured in many bmw 3-series cars (mine included) that are either completely stock or where the wheels, tires, and/or suspension may have been modified in any way. It is very unusual to be obliged to repair the frame in a car as a result of damage that occurs during normal driving.

Have you noticed that there are over forty (40) complaints about the bmw 3-series rear subframes? they are scattered among thevarious 3-series model numbers (i.e. 3-series, 323, 323ci, 328, 328ci.325, 325ci, etc.)this is all basically the same car. A technician told me that the rear axle carrier of these models were manufactured with an inherent defect.that is, one of the mounting points is too weak to absorb the normal, everyday vibration from the torque of the manual transmission. As a result, they manufactured a replacement part that is now stronger and reinforced.the fact that this problem does not happen with any type of frequency on any other bmw car, except for the 3-series that was introduced in 1999, is enough to force bmw to issue a recall.in addition, the fact that the replacement part is reinforced is the equivalent of bmw "admitting" that the original rear axle carrier had a design defect.bmw has refused to acknowledge its responsibility for this glaring defect in the car's structure despite this defects never having occurred in any other bmw -- or any other car for that matterhowever, it is my understanding that bmw issued a recall for this exact same problem in europe.please explain why the transportation authorities here in the u.s. Have not forced bmw to issue a recall.how can bmw justify not having a recall in the u.s. When they've issued a recall in europe for the exact same thing? please let me know if you can do anything or if a class action lawsuit is my only resort.in one of the complaints listed below, the consumer reported that bmw paid for the entire repair. Yet in all other complaints, bmw managed to avoid having to pay anything, even for cars still under warranty.how is it that american car manufacturers have to issue numerous recalls for mundane defects, but bmw manages to skate by without having to acknowledge a defect that threatens the safety of consumers?

I drove from north carolina to california prior to pcsing overseas.halfway i noticed a creaking sound.upon arrival to california i took it to a shop only to find out the rear subframe was tearing from its mounts.insurance claims it as a wear and tear issue and refuses to pay for the repairs.under normal conditions the tearing of the subframe does not seem possible.i took it to a bmw dealer where they are now ripping apart the rearend to only spot weld the repair i do not even believe is a proper repair.now with insurance refusing to cover it i'm stuck with an 8,000 dollar repair that should not even exist.

There was a clunking noise coming from the back.after taking the wheel off to investigate i saw where the rear suspension mounts to the frame it had pulled through.i have just found out about this and will e contacting bmw about this shortly.an internet search will find that this is not a rare occurrence and i believe bmw should be held responsible for this.

2000 bmw 323ci rear floor pan tearing. All four of the rear subframe mounting points have become torn.

I recently purchased the car used. Then took it to my local mechanic for thorough inspection and maintenance tune up. Front and rear shocks and struts along with springs replaced with oem parts. He and i located the subframe on the rear driver was torn. Car is mechanically sound and the only issue right now is that when driving, i can hear the metal on metal clunking noise. Afraid that if it does not get repaired, it will lead to more structure problems with the car. I'm scare to drive the car fearing that an accident is waiting to happen. Please help with investigation into possible defect on bmw 3 series. I know that there is currently a class action lawsuit has been filed with wasserman, comden & casselman, l.l.p regarding manufacturing and/or design defect that severely compromises the safety, durability, and performance of the vehicle. Which alleges that the manufacturing and/or design defect includes a weak or insufficient floor panel in the unibody of the vehicle that causes, among other things, cracking in the floor pan and misalignment, cracking or the complete or partial failure of the rear subframe of the vehicle.

Experienced tearing in the sheet metal located above the rear differential carrier.the sheet metal had been fatigued from carriers movement under load (acceleration/deceleration).the service manager (on behalf of bmw na) states that the damage was a result of "hitting a large pothole".it should be noted that no other suspension components were damaged and everything on the car is factory original.no modifications whatsoever and no repairs until that point.the car has been repaired and the area in question has been reinforced to prevent future subframe failures.this is not acceptable for a car manufacturer to pass blame for a design defect onto their customers.obviously, they have lost any future sales from me.

The rear subframe tore out of the car's unibody (2000 bmw 328ci).it had not reached a point where there was an accident caused by it, but it was getting bad.i took the car to the dealership began the process of getting it fixed.bmw north america called me back and told me that they wouldn't fix the problem and that it was my fault.

I was driving my car normally and started to realize a squeaking noise. Soon the noise got really loud and constant so i jack up the car and realized my rear subframe was detaching from the body. Bmw says they will not take responsibility for it.

I own a 2000 bmw 323ci with just over 80k on it and my rear subframe mounts have ripped through the bottom of the car and the whole rear of the car is about to fall off. After some searching i found around 200 fellow 3 series owners who are in the same boat almost all of which are 99 and 2000 models. Bmwna insist this is not a defect but do to aggressive driving or suspenion modes none of which apply to me or the many others who are having the same problem.its not just about the estimated 3 to 7 thousand dollar repair bill it needs to be addressed mainly for the people on the road endangering themselves and everyone else and the don't even have a clue because the only symptom is s slight rattle one which the average driver wouldn't even notice.

The left rear subframe mount torn away from the vehicle unibody/frame mounting location.the rear body metal fatigue was caused from loading and unloading of the drive train due to an engineering design defect. This occurred under normal driving conditions and is a known defect by bmw.a class action law suit required bmw to fix the problem from 2009 to 2010, but there are still many vehicles on the road that have not been repaired or the metal fatigue showed up after the 2010 deadline for repair. This is a major defect making the vehicle unsafe to drive because the rear axle can separate from the vehicle. This should be a vehicle recall and all bmw e46 3 series should have the rear subframe mounting points repaired and reinforced by bmw at no cost.

On february 6, 2012 exiting the freeway an about a mile or so after, i heard this big clunk that came from the rear, stopped and pulled over to see what that was. Looked under the car and the rear axel was hanging and subframe was severely damaged. Took it to the dealer the next day for inspection and called bmwna to file the claim. They will not pay for the repair and offered 50% of the cost. My car has 160k miles and it is in excellent condition besides this faulty engineered by bmw and they will not pay. Luckily i am still alive. How about if i was still on the freeway driving and this thing happened and caused an accident? this is really serious! safety of myself and other people. I am still dealing with bmwna to cover for the really expensive repair that this incident created. It was a defect from the manufacturer and now they do not want to take responsibility.please help!!!

While driving on a smooth road, the rear wheels locked up - without any warning.car came to a sudden unexpected halt - on it's own.this situation would certainly have resulted in injury/death, had it occured on a highway or other heavily traveled road.dealer advises that the suspension ripped clear off the frame of the car.vehicle is not driveable.have filed a complaint with bmw, but they say it's not covered under warranty - despite this being a 'certified pre-owned bmw'.car is just sitting at hunterdon bmw in lebanon,nj.

The mechanism in power windows ( mechanical mechanism in the doors which raise and lower the windows) appear to be faulty. After normal usage for a short period of time ( 3 weeks to a maximum of 6 months ) , there are repeated failures of the mechanical mechanism and power windows once again fail to function. Althoughthe issue at hand has been fixed by bmw numerous times ( some under warranty and someatowners cost) , it is a repeating problem and bmw service provider does not appear to have a solution which would resolve the issue for a long period of time.since the vehicle at this time is out of warranty and mostly driven by one driver ( me ),a greater use of ac is made in order not to use the power windows in case they will break once again.

The window regulator (i.e., the mechanical mechanism in the doors which raises and lowers the windows) appears to be faulty. I have replaced the regulators 6 times since 2000. These are repeated failures: the right front window regulator has failed twice (2003 and 2009); the left front regulator has failed twice (2003 and 2011); the left rear has failed once (2008) and the right rear has failed once (2007). Bmw only covered the failures under the original warranty (2003). The others have been at my cost.
