10-december 2005 spontaneous deployment of driver side seat airbag.conditions: clear road at 7,000 feet elevation, ~ 30 mph estimated speed.airbag light indicator on after event, check engine light on after event, interior light on.no 4-way flasher.13-december 2005 dropped off at rector motors, burlingame, ca.j. M. Handles service contacted and informed audi customer relations.23-january 2006audi calledstating that their liability group has advised that "it wasan insurance issue, meaning that repair of the airbag would be a cost to submit to my insurance, not anything audi would pick up.i pointed out that the issue was not whether the cost was audi's or mine but rather that exploding airbags represent a safety concern that has not been addressed. On 4-january4, 2006dealer advised that audi did not request nor received information logged in event data recorder and that local dealers didn't have ability to download or view key information for diagnosing problem. On 24-january 2006 informed that the response from audi was inadequate.he stated that the liability engineer had made his assessment and that there would be no further response from audi.i requested that audi download the details in the event data recorder as a means of identifying the cause of the deployment.he reiterated that there would be no further response from audi nor would they be willing to document their findings until the vehicle was repaired at which time they would provide a statement that it was then operating to audi standards. I informed him that there was no causative incident that triggered the deployment and that replacing the bag without correcting the underlying cause posed ongoing risk to me, my passenger and any other vehicles that might be involved in the next deployment.he stated that the liability engineer had concluded that the deployment was related the marks behind the wheel and that no further assessment would be made by audi.

I am reaching out to you after our attempts to reach a satisfactory resolution to our 2000 audi tt concerns has not been resolved.i will summarize our needs/concerns for you.we purchased our new 2000 audi tt in 2000.we have had all regular service and repairs done at an audi authorized dealer in north scottsdale, az and between 2005-2009, while living/working for a short-term in san jose, ca.we put minimal miles on this vehicle as a second automobile.our current mileage is 82,000 miles.in 2005, at 53,813 miles, we had regular service performed at stevens creek audi, in san jose, ca.during that visit, we stated concern over the instrument cluster panel's warning of a problem with our headlights, low beams or parking lights.the technician replaced the running light bulbs but the problem with the instrument cluster panel continued and has become increasingly worse with more failures to this date, such as the gas gauge does not operate, the digital readout is difficult to read, etc.when we investigated the instrument panel concern with our technician recently in scottsdale, we learned, by looking online, of the class action lawsuit and audi's free repair offer (see information below).we had no knowledge of this in 2008 ' otherwise, we would have had the repair done in the timeframe given.we have asked our dealer to extend this free repair to us in light of the above, especially since we were experiencing problems with the instrument cluster panel before and during this time period noted above. We have not being able to get this resolved and so we are hoping that you will, at your corporate level of authority, be able to meet our needs. Thank you for your time and attention to our request.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The instrument cluster in my audi tt is faulty. It does not provide accurate fuel gauge, engine speed, vehicle speed, and engine temperature readings. It does not provide any reliable, accurate information in regards to the operation of the vehicle.

I own a 2000 audi tt and the audi dealer service confirms that the tt's instrument panel has an internal problem which requires replacement of the instrument cluster at a cost estimate of $1193.13. The tt has a known instrument cluster failure problem and audi has provided relief to owners regarding the instrument failure in both the uk and the us.the car has less than 75,000 mile on it and instrument failure at this low mileage is unacceptable.audi says the car is out of warranty and they would do nothing, which seems like a ridiculous response as the problems affects the speedometer and safety warning lights.the instrument panel can only be replaced by the dealer to preserve auto settings.this type of safety defect should be the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Headlight ignitor fails causing headlight low beam to work intermittently.

Instrument cluster failed with no prior events leading to its failure.many aspects of the instrument cluster fail to work properly, such as the fuel gauge, tachometer, speedometer, and lcd screen.

Reason for service call: no heat diagnosis by audi dealer: internal short in a/c control head estimate of cost to replace the a/c control head- $900.00 i denied authorization for the $900.00 repair. When the car was returned to me, the climate control system would only deliver heat and at a very high temperature. There was no adjustment of temperature nor could the system be shut down. Even when the climate control system controls were set in an off position, heat continued to trickle through the vents. The customer service representative suggested that this problem was an example of erratic activity expected from a short in the a/c control head and said i would have to bear the cost of another service call: $106.00 to shut off the heat or shut down the entire climate control system (as i requested). I arranged to meet with the service manager and service foreman the following day.climate control was checked via the scan tool and had multiple faults recorded for flap motors. Attempt to set basic settings of motors was unsuccessful; all motors recorded faults. Service foreman concluded that the climate control head was faulty.i consulted with the foreman on options to shut off heat to the cabin and agreed to his suggestion to remove the temp flap control motor and set flap in cool position. Motor and attached parts have been stowed by owner for possible reinstallation at a later date.service manager and i made a gentleman's agreement to split the cost of the additional repair. My portion was $53.56.2000 audi tt had a 3 year warranty. Due to early release of vehicle, i took delivery of car in july 1999. The warranty for the 2001 model was extended to 4 years.

I had a timing belt failure at 80k which required most of my engine to be replaced. My complaint is, audi maintenance did not recommend a timing belt change before 80k. I also have a problem with the environmental system and the rear suspension which is wearing the tires prematurely and, some of my gauges are not working.

Due to a computer error, engine exploded. Dealer has replaced engine. Consumer does not know if computer has been modified.

When fillinggas tank up fuelgauge showedfull even after the gas has run low. Dealer has replacedfue line twice, also, replacedinstrument cluster.however, problem still exists.

I was informed about an engine component recall involving the water pump that was used when replacing the timing components at the vehicle's 100,000 mile service interval. The vehicle tends to start running a little over normal operating temperature while sitting still for more than 5-8 minutes after driving in weather over 60 degrees fahrenheit. The vehicle also runs at higher temperature than normal when driving in slower traffic (under 35mph) i believe the water pump used is part of the recall.

My wife was driving our 2000 audi tt on the freeway.the engine suddenly stopped.my wife was able to roll to the side of the road avoiding a collision.the car was towed to the local audi dealer. The dealer informed us that the timing belt had broken, and as a result some engine damage had occurred.the dealer quoted us about $4300 for the repairs to the engine. Audi recommends that the timing belt be replaced at 105,000 miles.my car only has 78,388 miles on it.had i known that the timing belt would not last to 105,000 miles i would have replaced it avoiding engine damage and a possible safety hazard.to date audi has not offered any help regarding this problem.in researching the various audi web sites, i have found that many audi tt owners have had the same situation happen to them.i am hopeful that audi will offer to fix the problem, and inform all tt owners of the potential for timing belt premature failure.your assistance in this matter would be appreciated.sincerely, joe peters.

2000 audi tt quattro coupe.timing belt failed at 83918 miles. (stripped timing belt).failure occurred while driving up little cottonwood canyon in utah about 1 mile from the entrance to the canyon.the car lost power abruptly and due to small shoulder on the road, we were unable to immediately pull off almost causing an accident with the cars following up the canyon.we immediately turned on hazard lights as car no longer had forward momentum and proceeded to back slowly down the canyon to a section of road that had a wider shoulder where we pulled off.audi recommends that the timing belt be replaced at 90,000 miles.my car had 83918. Due to the timing belt failure, the valves in the engine were bent, and the cylinder head was scored and needed to be replaced.total cost was $3464.82.to correct the damage a new head, valves, tensioners, and timing belt was installed by the audi dealer. Vehicle was not covered under any warranty, or service bulletin.as i have read through internet forums, this seems not to be an isolated incident.

Reason for service call: no heat diagnosis by audi dealer: internal short in a/c control head estimate of cost to replace the a/c control head- $900.00 i denied authorization for the $900.00 repair. 2000 audi tt problems with the instrument cluster. Consumer states that problem has caused problems with the performance and safety of this vehicle. Due to a computer error, engine exploded. Dealer has replaced engine. Consumer does not know if computer has been modified.

The timing belt broke at 35 mph, causing the engine to not operate. Taken to dealer for check up, and consumer was informed that the engine could be repaired at consumer's expense. The vehicle is unable to be used at this time.

I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph when my engine suddenly ceased up, the hydraulics stopped functioning and i was surrounded by heavy traffic.i managed to pull the vehicle to the side of the road but it was a very dangerous situation.the timing belt of my audi tt 2000 (49k miles) snapped causing the entire engine to fail and requires replacement.

1. The events leading up the failure included a 60,000 mile check up and a discussion about checking out the timing belt as part of the service.the authorized audi dealer replied that audi does not recommend checking or changing the timing belt until 67,000 miles.2. At 67,000 miles, the timing belt went out causing the power steering to go out and my car to die.if i had been turning at a busy intersection, i would have been seriously injured or killed.taking it to the dealer, i have found that there is $5000+ in damages done to the engine because of the failure.3. I have found many other audi tt drivers who have had the same problem, timing belts failing between 30k-70k miles, well before how long audi says they will last.they refuse to do anything about it or acknowledge that their cars have problems.

Dt: the timingbeltshouldn't need tobe changed until 90,000 miles, but it went out at 65,000 miles. Thishappened whileconsumer was on the road. Mechanicsaid it should neverfailed at60,000 miles.

Hydraulic tensioner malfunctioned. This caused the timing belt to break.

Vehicle has been in repair shop several times to eleviate a screeching sound from serpentine belt. Other problems have been repaired associated with performance of belt.dealership states that they are unable to duplicate problem. Engine performance is possibly being inhibited by failure. Consumer stated that the sound was come from engine compartment either at cold start or after car was restarted.

2000 tt coupe had gauge cluster problems. Dash lights do not appear unless vehicle is warmed up.the consumer stated he was not able to read his speedometer, tachometer or fuel gauges.

Driver's side low beam headlight intermittently turns off or on but currently is permanently off.have researched the problem and it seems to be quite common among 2000 to 2003 tt owners.when turning on the headlights with the switch at times they would go on immediately but mostly i would have to turn the switch many times before the lights on the drivers side would go on. Tried replacing bulb but that is not the problem.is there a recall on this?have seen the money people have spent trying to repair this and still having problems and it is unfair to tt owners! have not been able to repair it since 2007.

Fuel gauge consistency reads the wrong level of fuel in the gas tank. Left me stranded twice already. This is a very very common malfunction for my model of audi.

My 2000 audi tt quattro has a problem with its fuel gauge where it sometimes reads that there is most of a tank of gas when the tank is nearly empty. Problem is intermittent. I have not run out of gas or had an accident, but this seems to be a potential safety hazard to me (the car could run out of gas without warning).on audiworld.com tt forums, there are many reports of this same problem.

The parking brake failed while the car was parked and the car went flying into my garage door causing damage. I found the car with the parking brake depressed and the aluminum cap on the driver side floor.

I no longer own this car. Audi has repurchased it. I am not submitting this so much as for myself, but for owners of front wheel drive audi tts and vws which use this transmission. I have approx. 70 cases of mostly identical failures from audi tt owners on an internet owners' forum(audi-tt.org). Additionally, another forum (vwvortex.com) recently did a survey, and a similar number of owners reported the problem as well. The vws in question use the same front wheel drive tranny that is used in the audi tt. Specifically, the problem is a periodic grinding of the 2nd gear synchronizers. If this inquiry should be directed to another agency rather than nhtsa, please forward it along. Here is a partial list of tt owners with this problem:

Due to defective seat belt equipment and air bag non-deployment the consumer and her daughter wasn't restrained upon impact. Both driver and passenger sustained injuries. Insurance company diagnosed vehicle as a total lost. *mr *ph

Vehicle lost steering control while driving at high speed of 60-85 mph. Dealer was notified , and was unable to determine thecause of the problem.

The contact found recall (01v325000) suspension:rear, which was the cause of the failure.the contact called the dealer (the audi exchanged) who said that the recall repair had been done to the vehicle. The contact then called the manufacturer and they stated that the recall had been done and there has no more help that they can offer.the consumer was informed the vehicle would repaired at no charge. At approximately 0045 hours, saturday 06/24/2006, i was leaving work and pulling out of the parking lot. I heard a popping sound and my steering to my vehicle went sour. So i pulled over and took a look at the front wheels, thinking it was the problem. To which it was not. I continued on and the rear end was fish-tailing, so i pulled over and noticed the right rear wheel was bent at a forty-five degree angle inward. The rear control arm was broken. Damages caused by this failure caused damages to the rear sway bar, and other parts internal and external. I contacted audi usa because i found out about an old recall notification. To which my family was never notified of such. I did some research and found out a range of vins that had been affected by this recall, and my vehicle fell within that range. I looked up more information within the nhtsa website and my vehicle should have been recalled by the downloaded file rcdnn-01v325-1789.pdf.after numerous attempts to find information from separate audi advocates, one tells me there is currently nothing they can do. Because the recall was old and not open right now, i would need to take the vehicle and get it fix and keep the records.audi usa and world wide knew of this problem and failed to notify everyone that owned this vehicle that was to be affected. Several years later not knowing of a problem from a part that has been recalled only on a few vehicles. A problem still exists to which could have resulted in serious injury or even death.

I have had about 4-5 flat's with these tires at low speeds (~35 mph) - at least 3 of them were irrepairable in a 9700 mile period - i ended up recently changing all the tires - please feel free to contact me with any questions.( dot number: tire size: 225/45 17 )

The tire has the widely documented "bulge" in the tire wall problem. Is it safe to drive on this tire? ( dot number: tire size: 225/45r17 )

Both tires blew out and damaged the wheels at a very low speed after hitting an insignificant bump in the road.sidewall blew out of both tires causing driver to lose control.luckily, there was no injury or other property damage.these tires have been reported with many sidewall failures by other audi tt owners.i have contacted audi who refuses to do anything about it. Broken sidewall belt revealed by wavy lines - no bubble( dot number: tire size: 225x17 )

Please disregard my complaint.i reinspected the tire and found a wire that had gone through the tire.<sigh>information, no complain.

I have had intermittent window problems since i purchased the car. Window drivers were replaced on the drivers side at 3000 miles. The windows stopped working for short times ever since. They were inspected at 29,000 miles . The passenger side failed at 35,000 miles costing $374. I was notified the window guides were then noticed to be cracked and will need replacement. The driver side stopped working at 38,000 miles and will no longer come back. This seems to be a inherent problem with vw and audi design.
