Cold start on a cold january morning (5 degrees f); upon starting the car the air bag warning light came on and would not shut off.research (discussions with the dealer and air bag repair businesses) indicate that this is a very common defect for audi s4, model year 2001 and that to repair the problem the air bag control module (computer) would need to be replaced at an exorbitant cost.airbag system is completely inoperable with the warning light in a lit state.on line audi forums indicate that this is a huge problem on these cars.

1)car is 2001 audi s4 avant.car was running for approximately 15 minutes, and was idling at top of driveway for about 5 minutes with parking brake engaged while other car in front was being moved. Upon release of parking brake regular brakes failed, resulting in car rolling downhill, about 30 feet, from a standing start and colliding witha parked car.brake pedal showed no resistance other than mild spring push-back,and was pushed down to floor.a brake pedal waspumped with no result. Same brake conditions were repeated immediately after collision and over a continuing period ofminutes with identical results, during which time i exited and returned tocar on multiple occasions.finally, after approximately 5 minutes followingthe accident brakes resumed full and normal functioning.car was idling throughout this time period without interruption.air bags did not deploy . 3)reported to dealer mohegan lake motors) on 1/16 and to audi america on same or next day.car towed to dealer on 1/17.audi america reported laterthat they hadno knowledge of any similar occurrences or issues concerning brakes - also began inquiry on why air bags did not deploy , but i did not pursue this during our discussions since there were no injuries.dealer reported on 1/24 that they were unable toduplicatethe problem, and had no answer for the brake failure, andwere taking no corrective actions.audi america reported on 1/25 they were taking no further action and making no further inquiries.

Audis stolen in nj, ny, pa , va .......... All over east coast in populated areas audis get stolen like in nones country ..and authorities do nothing !!!!!!!!!! i am refering especially to audi s4, tt and a4 .. And 99% end up in newark , nj .. What does it take for this to stop.. We all know where these people are.. Can be caught like rats ....... A bait s4 parked in newark and it takes no more than 2 min to see how thiefs show up........................... It's not brain surgery..it's actually everywhere in central/eastern nj ..everywhere .. !!!!!!!!!!!!

I both owna 2001 audi a4 and 2001 audi s4.. On both the red lcd instrument cluster screen has failed to the point where nothing on that screen is legible. The screen is designed to show mileage, speed warning, run time and other functions. The pixels have ceased to function to the point beyond recognition. I share this problem with a very large group of audi owners of the same and/or similar model. This group of people expands internationally and audi clearly knows that this is a prone to failure part.

1. All the time2. The failure makes me unable to see the warning icons due to the dead pixels in my cluster (dash computer) 3. No repair was done.

1) there is no triggering event leading up to the failure.it just appears over time.2) the lcd screen in the instrument cluster has lines of pixels that do not light up.this is constant, with more lines of pixels going out and permanently staying out over time.as a consequence, important warning messages are not displayed or readable; such as worn out brake pads, fuel low warning, washer fluid low warning, etc.if these warnings are not displayed, the vehicle may run out of gas without warning and stall while operating, or brakes may wear down to the point of losing effectiveness without warning, or be left without washer fluid without warning.

Dead pixels in instrument warning display.

Instrument cluster has lost pixels and ends up unreadable for all warnings and manufacturer programmed safety warnings.

2001 audi s4 with gauge cluster problems**nar**ccthis problem surfaced just after the warranty expired in 2004.the problem has since grown progressively worse, causing a serious safety issue with operating the vehicle.the consumer indicated that audi has been aware of the problem for several years and audi uk has replaced the failed cluster free of charge.the consumer requested that the manufacturer replace the gauge cluster at to cost to him since this is a common problem.

I just happened to look up recalls and saw the complaints on the audi s4 2001.i noticed my car wasn't the only one where the instrument cluster has lost pixels and ends up unreadable for all warnings and manufacturer programmed safety warnings. It has been like this for years and did ask my dealer how much it would cost to fix it and it was insane. It is a real safety issue. Audi should be responsible for fixing it. I didn't realize other audi's were having the same issue. Maybe if more people complain, audi will be forced to fix it.

The instrument cluster on my 2001 audi s4 no longer functions properly, which means i cannot read vital safety information.

(1) usually in hot weather(2) the instrument cluster (driver information) display is unreadable. This display provides auto-check system information. Malfunctions or urgent repairs are supposed to be displayed by red (priority 1) or yellow (priority 2) light symbols in the instrument cluster. These notifications are there to remind the driver that a problem exists which should be corrected for both convenience & safety, and to prevent the risk of considerable damage to the vehicle. A person could get stranded in the middle of nowhere, or worse get into an accident, if not notified in the correct manner. (3) nothing has been done yet to rectify the problem. The unit replacement costs around $700-$900. I have searched on forums, it seems to be a common problem with this particular model, regardless of the mileage on the vehicle. Audi of america should consider recalling and fixing this equipment as soon as possible.

My "driver information display" hasn't worked since i bought the car in 2005.it's a 2001 audi s4.the display in the instrument cluster displays important vehicle information vital to the drivers safety and vehicle maintenance.

The contact owns a 2001 audi s4.the contact stated that the pixels on the instrumental panel failed, which prevents him from reading the auto check system.the current and failure mileages were 7,200.

The led center display in the dashboard cluster is failing on my 2001 audi s4. The cluster was replaced under warranty by the dealer, but is failing again. The center display is used to show important safety messages such as dangerously low oil levels, brake pads needing replacement, etc. Audi will only replace these for free under warranty and charges an arm and a leg to replace out of warranty. Apparently the center display is not separately replaceable and the whole gauge cluster needs to be replaced. This also was an issue on my 1998 audi a4, built on the same 'b5' platform as my current s4. This is a known issue on many model years that audi of america is choosing to ignore and hope that it will go away as these cars age. Unfortunately, it's only getting worse as more and more clusters go bad.

The contact owns a 2001 audi s4.the lights for the center led screen failed.the screen was used to display warning indicators, independently of the instrument panel.the dealer stated that the center cluster needed to be replaced.the failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 49,000. *updated 12/27/07 *ljupdated12/12/07

Cluster led lighting failure.. Pixels are either dimmed or not working correctly leaving difficulty to see the speed of vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 audi s4.when the vehicle was started, the contact was unable to see the entire instrument panel display.while driving 40 mph, the instrument panel eventually appeared in full view.the failure later recurred.the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer.the current mileage was 83,000 and failure mileage was 78,000.

I own a 2001 audi s4.the center display on the gauge cluster is failing due to missing pixels.the center display normally displays critical safety information regarding failing engine and body components.it is always missing pixels, and is never clear enough to read properly.recently, i developed an oil leak and the center display wasn't clear enough to see the low oil warning light.as a result i was stranded in sub-zero temperatures without transportation.i am currently repairing the engine far beyond what would have been necessary, had the center display been working correctly.i have not yet repaired the display, because the dealer is asking $1000 for replacement.i know it a common problem with this car, and due to the age, is reaching a very high percentage of failure.i don't think that failing safety equipment should be a routine maintenance item for anyone, especially when it is a high dollar item.

Missing pixels in the center dash cluster display.the display seems to be degrading over time.over time i will no longer be able to see useful information on the display.

The lcd display screen in the center of the instrument cluster is unreadable, many missing lines and pixels, it notifies me of vital safety and hazardous conditions of my car and/or parts failure. Rear view mirror also not working.

1. Purchased a 2001 s42. The auto check system in the instrument cluster does not work especially when warm. Critical safety information is no longer displayed.3. Was quoted obscene amounts by audi dealers to replace entire instrument cluster.

(1) driving my vehicle(2) center dash digital display failure, missing and faded pixels(3) none, display shows incomplete information about vehicle warnings.

The b5 (2000-2002) audi s4, lcds on gauge cluster which display valuable safety information, is faulty on every s4 i've ever seen. Everyone on every forum i frequent, they all have the same problem. This is a problem and needs to be recalled.

Information display on instrument cluster is failing; pixels no longer operate rendering the display useless.display is used to inform the driver of vital safety information but with failed display the important safety information cannot be read!

The contact owns a 2001 audi s4.the electrical instrument panel warning indicator lights were partially readable.the contact stated that the pixels on the panel fail to properly illuminate, however, the speedometer is working normally.the failure has not been diagnosed by a dealer.the failure has been occurring since june of 2007.the failure mileage was 62,000 and current mileage was 79,655.

My 2001 audi s4 developed problems with its gauge cluster, and the problems have grown progressively worse, causing a serious safety issue with operation of the vehicle. The information display is a very important part of the car which directly affects the operation of the vehicle and the safety of daily driving. Vehicle warnings are displayed on the cluster which is now unreadable.it was the intent of audi for this part to serve the purpose of providing the driver with needed safety information.

Information cluster display on dashboard has a row of defective pixels that do not illuminate.

Center of the dash gauge cluster failure.lines of information (pixels) disappear little by little until the gauge readout is unreadable.

Instrument cluster failure on a 2000 b5 s4 and a 2001 b5 s4 avant.the pixels in the center of the dash quit working properly.it gets worse in hot or cold weather.this has happened on both s4 audis that i have owned.

Center display of gauge cluster, displays critical warning systems. Faulty, intermittent and complete failure of pixel display.

My center display is un-readable.the lcd pixels are almost non-existent.cannot read any of the checks the engine goes through, almost cannot see the need-gas light.it gotten progressively worse over the last 2 years.

Center display does not work - dead pixels.

Information display on instrument cluster is failing; pixels no longer operate rendering the display useless. Display is used to inform the driver of vital safety information but with failed display the important safety information cannot be read!

Cluster display failure.

Dashboard lcd display failure.

The contact owns a 2001 audi s4.the contact stated that the instrument panel has a lcd display screen with lines going through it, which prevents him from reading the gauges.after a few days, his visibility was zero.the dealer stated that the entire instrument panel control cluster would have to be replaced.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was 78,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2001 audi s4.the contact stated that the lcd screen on the instrumental panel (driver information display) continues to vanish, preventing him from reading the information on the display.the current mileage was 110,000 and failure mileage was 90,000.updated 03/13/08.*lj

My vehicles instrument cluster does not work! it is clearly stated in the user manual that it should be replaced because it is for my convenience and safety to prevent considerable damage to my vehicle due to certain malfunctions. I would say that 90% of audi owners i know, constantly complain about their instrument clusters either fading or going completely out. Something needs to be done about this. I cant even see vital functions that my car is telling me, i hear beeps signaling something is wrong, but i don't know what it is and have to constantly go to the shop to have a diagnostic scan on my car since not even the shop can just look at it and tell me what is wrong. This problem has been ongoing since mid july and bell audi in rahway wants to change me $800.00 to fix something that should be recalled due to safety.

Uneffectiveness of factory alarm.the hugh number of thefts of my vehicle is concerning.i am concerned on the security of leaving my car anywhere but my garage.

My grievance relates to the relative ease that my vehicle was stolen on a sunday from a street parking space in manhattan, between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, while located on a main throughfare that is regularly traveled by both pedestrians & vehicles.that the vehicle's factory installed theft-deterrent was defeated or failed to operate, given its high visability on a moderately to heavily traveled street, should warrent, at the very least, an investigation into the effectivenessand proper functioning of alarm system operation as represented by the manufacturer. While the theft incident stats kept by audi, and their us subsidery, audi of america, show theft to be insignificant, the data provided by other nationwide databases is another matter altogether. In 2002, the s4 was the 25th most stolen car in nj (all intents& purposes: the tri-state area, ny, nj, conn). This particular submodel (s4 sedan & wagon) was manufactured b/wn 2000-2002, in fairly limited production numbers. Its status as 25th most-stolen car seem to indicate an exploitable flaw in its theft alarm/protection.

I had just purchased a 2001 audi s4 for close to $40,000.with 1100 miles onit my car was stolen in broad daylight approx 3 pm.upon further research, i learned that the factory passive alarm can be tricked into thinkingit has been disarmed.a small hole near the door lock gains access to a rod that when lifteddisarms the system as if a key were used, combine this action with thewith removal of the ignition, and the vehicle can be started with a screw driver and driven away. I've also learned that vw/audi had the technology available to equip this model with an engine immobiliser as part of the oem alarm system.i'm aware of dozens of thefts of the audi s4 in particular and am reading of more thefts occurring weekly. Just do a search on www.audiworld.com using the word "stolen" and you will see for yourself.my experience has been in the ny/nj metropolitan area.i think audi should be held responsible for this gross oversite on their part and offer a retrofit of some sort to protect my investment.i don't feel safe driving my vehicle freely anywhere i want without having to worry about it being stolen. This problem has reached epidemic proportions here.

My car (2001 audi s4) was stolen in livingston nj, and recovered in irvington, nj.the car had a stock alarm system which was easily bypassed.this car did not have an immobilizer.other model audi's have an immobilizer. $10,000 of damage was caused to the car.this is unacceptable. Certainly audi can retrofit an immobilizer into this car because the same car in europe has the immobilizer.

My 2001 audi s4 was stolen in springfield, nj and recovered in newark, nj.the total damage to the car was approximately $8000.i believe that this theft was possible largely because of a significant flaw in the security system.specifically, the doorlock mechanism is directly tied to the alarm, including the motion sensors and the ignition kill.thus, a tiny hole punched in the door to unlock the door simultaneously let's a thief into the car and disables the entire security system.the lack of a true immobilizer system on the car created a reputation for this high-performance vehicle that it is easily stolen and now it is a particular target for thieves, especially in the new jersey area.there have been numerous reports of high-speed joyrides and other dangerous situations with stolen s4's.it is my understanding that most audi's from 2000-2002 have this flaw and i belive that audi should acknowledge the problem and retrofit these vehicles with a safer anti-theft system.

I currently own a 2001 audi s4. There has been an unusually large amount of thefts of these vehicles over the last couple of years. It is due to the poor alarm system audi has put in these vehicles. There is no immobilzer, which was put in their other models. Audi refuses to do anything about this problem.

Audi of america has not taken security systems on the audi s4's seriously.they have been massive known thefts in the tri-state area and the list continues to grow.i have spent over $800 for added security and will continue to spend more if i have to.i cannot sleep peacefully at night knowing my car is prone to easy theft due to it's ineffectiveness in security protection.i feel it's a matter a time before my car will be stolen in a mall or a shopping center or on a street or even in my own home.audi needs to address this immediately!

The security system of my 2001 audi s4 has a major fault.the manufacturer did not include any type of immobilizer into the system making it extremely easy for it to get stolen.an immobilizer is a system built into the computer/ignition system of the vehicle that doesn't allow it to be started unless the key is used. I am uncomfortable parking it in any major city and as i live near nyc, its a real issue. I have a number of friends who have had their s4s stolen in the new jersey area in a matter of minutes.this is a very limited production car and still makes the top 25 most stolen vehicles in its class, that says something about not only how desirable it is to thieves but how easily it is stolen.an immobilizing system would not eliminate all theft but would reduce it substantially.i feel this is something the manufacture should rectify.other cars in the audi line up for 2000 had immobilizers so the company had easy access to such technology but chose not to include it in their 2001 model year a4/s4.i also had a 2001 vw jetta (same parent company as audi) and it had an immobilizer, this car cost just about half as much as the audi s4 so its absurd.please help me and my fellow audi a4/s4 owners rectify this situation.thanks in advance for your time and help.

2001 audi s4 has a security flaw that can render the alarm useless in seconds, therefore making it extremely easy to steal. The alarm can be easily bypassed by simply punching a hole in the driver door skin, the car has no immobilizer, the engine can be started by brute force on the ignition.

Dt: instrument panel was damaged upon delivery of vehicle, was replaced by dealership, consumer complained numerous times about electrical problems, not able to view instrument panel properly. When replaced the instrument panel already had signs of wear and needed to be replaced again.

Vehicle is experiencing radiator coolant leakage into engine oil.this is causing accelerated wear of components lubricated by the engine oil.unless corrected, this contamination will lead to failure of the motor.the vehicle was inspected and tested by an audi service center with no cause identified or solution proposed.audi of america is not taking any action to address this problem.

Please refer to odi number 101598011.slow coolant leak and engine oil contamination2.low oil light as well as low coolant indicator light, this causes wear and tear issue with engine to the extent that can damage major components within the engine.3. Audi dealer has diagnose and run test to determine this problem but have not found fault.the symptoms still persists but are not acknowledge as a problem the audi of america.

I have a 2001 audi s4. There is a vacuum line between the motor and firewall that has a check valve on it. The problem is that the check valve is prone to fail (talked to others on an audi website that had this part fail also) and when it does, it fails w/o notice and causes the car to lose its power brakes. I think this is extremely dangerous, nothing happened to me, mine failed in a parking lot as i was parking, but what if i or someone had this part fail at say 50-60 mph and they had to stop the car? they wouldn't be able to. I fixed mine by by-passing this check valve. I think that you should look into this problem.

Coolant in oil. Can't trace it down, have had 5 rear main seals replaced, had the external oil filter parts replaced and still coolant is finding it's way into the motor, causing the motor to prematurely wear.audi knows about the issue they have brought engines back to germany for review, but have yet come out with what is happening. What can we fix to stop this. I'm not looking for a recall, heck most people i know would just like to know what audi messed up and how we can fix it.at this point the fix is unknown, stop leak in the coolant system but that's a bandaid and gunks up the motor. Audi and audi of america need to step up and at least make the flaw known so that if there is a fix we can make it happen.if there is no fix, then i can understand audi hiding the issue, since it would mean it's a machining defect, casting defect and it would be very costly to replace every 2.7t engine or head on the road (but they have been really bad about stepping up to other failures (turbos! abs controllers, dash display pixels (gauge cluster, can bus), rocking front seats etc.maybe it's time for some pressure to be applied to them. Just tell us!!

Dt:there was a cam adjuster fromwhere the oil leak was coming from.noticed this on august 8, 2003. Then, on july 24, 2004 took the vehicle for an oil change a nd they confirmed there was another oil leak. The warranty expired innovember 2005,andthe consumer made arrangements for the gaskets to be replaced a month before the warranty ran out. In order to get to the gaskets the cam shafts had to be removed. The gaskets were replaced,, and cam shaft reinstalled, then gave it a tune up. Also, put in two different types of spark plugs; one set was platinum and conventional. A week later, itwas ready for pick up. The exhaust sounded different whenvehicle picked up. On january 31, 2005 tookvehicle to another mechanic because the check engine was on. At that point mechanic determined o2 sensorscaused the light to come on,and the exhaust sounded differently. Then, three months later, the exhaust cam shaft that broke it bent valves in cylinder head and caused it to crack.

Unless corrected, this contamination will lead to failure of the motor. The vehicle was inspected and tested by an audi service center with no cause identified or solution proposed. Audi of america is not taking any action to address this problem.

Coolant leaking into engine oil at undetermined location.no cause identified nor solution proposed.coolant levels in oil high enough to lead to significantly premature engine failure.no recourse provided by audi of america.engine replacement only option at present.

Internal coolant leak , slow leak developed and coolant contaminates the oil .. Totally destroying the entire engine components!

(1) events leading up to the failure:none--i've been experiencing a coolant leak since day one.only recently has it gotten worse and now i see that there is water in my coolant. (2) failure and its consequences - coolant in oil causes premature damage of engine components (bearings, turbos).new engine costs exceed $15,000.new turbos costs exceed $5,000.this problem is posted all over audiworld.com.multiple people have had the oil checked and determine that high levels of copper (caused by coolant) were in the oil and would result in near-term engine/turbo failure.(3) what was done to attempt to fix the problem: (a) coolant system checked three times by audi service at my cost and they have not been able to determine the problem.costs so far exceed dollars with no fix in sight;(b) water-pump replaced ; (c) secondary water-pump replacedi am about to pay $2000 to get the head-gaskets replaced.unfortunately this is a maybe fix since the problem cannot get diagnosed.multiple people have posted on audiworld that they have had the same job completed with no benefits to the problem.

Chronic problem with blown turbos.audi has made engineering changes to the tubros without notifiying customers of impending failures.they are also voiding customer warranties blaming failures on aftermaket equipment without verifying the aftermarket equipment indeed caused the failure.i am conceerned that i have known defective parts in my vehicle that may fail at any time.

The xenon headlight construction on audi s4 cars based on the b5 platform (built 2000-2002) are inadequately designed, allowing thieves to easily steal them. Furthermore, nothing is being done by audi to address this issue which causes the owner to have to pay a deductible on a repair usually in excess of $3500 and be without the car for some amount of time. It has happened to me personally and happens everywhere from public garages to private driveways in both "sketchy" and very upscale neighborhoods.

Dt: 2001, audi s4 was damaged upon delivery. Vehicle was taken back to the dealer to fix the problem, when the problem was fixed headlamps were sprayed with paint.upon delivering the headlamps they were installed incorrectly, they were pointing down, and consumer couldn't see two feet in front of him.consumer took the vehicle back again, and the headlamps were installed wrong again.when consumer took vehicle to another dealer, was told the headlamps were defective, and they would never work correctly. Consumer did have a crash in the winter of 2001, and there was still potential of a crash. Consumer statesdthat he still couldn't see at night.consumerhad numerous visits for this and other complaints.

Passenger side xenon headlight switches itself off frequently. Four attempts to fix the problem have not helped.

Buzzing noise in back of car turned out to be faulty fuel pump. After several days in shop the service rep told me that there was another problem -- a "burnt" or "corroded" wire near the fuel pump and fuel tank that could be a "safety issue." that was 3 days ago. Still no update from the dealership. I am wondering if others have had problems with the fuel pump on the audi s4. I'm particularly worried because exposed wires near a fuel tank sounds like a serious safety issue.

My wife returned from buying presents and stopped the vehicle in the driveway.she engaged the handbrake and waited one minute before turning off the engine to let the turbos cool down.she then proceeded to retrieve packages from the trunk and entered the residence.after one hour and fourty five minutes, an officer contacted us and asked if we knew where was the vehicle.we stated that it was in the driveway.he told us to please follow him.we went outside and saw that the vehicle had backed out of the driveway and damaged the retaining wall of our vehicle.upon inspection, the officer noted that the hand brake was still engaged and there was no signs of criminal intent.in addition, the alarm was not set off upon impact with the retaining wall.the vehicle must have reached a substantial speed because it jumped the curb and damaged the wall, creating a hole about 3 feet tall by 5 feet wide.the vehicle's trunk was imbedded through the wall.i entered the vehicle and had to disengage the hand brake before the vehicle could be extracted from the retaining wall.damage occurred to the rear bumper, left and right quarter panel, rear light assemby, trunk lid, and trunk interior.possible damage to wheels as wheel as nonvisible components of vehicle.

Dt: seat belt does not insert properly into driver's side buckle. Consumercomplained to dealership multiple times.the seat belt has released while consumer was driving.

Driver seat began to rock.currently rocks at a much greater distance, brought to the dealership and hey claim it is within the manufacturers specifications.

Rocking drivers seat, normal driving, man of average size 5'11 180lbs. Seat starts to move forward and back when braking, accelerating.dealer has replaced the seat frame twice citing that it was broken. Now the seat is rocking again and they are now saying it's normal. It's not normal, why does the seat move back and forth? when they replaced the seat frames both times the seats felt good and stable, no rocking no moving, but they fail just months later

Power front seat rocks forward severely under braking. Dealer says it is "within spec."t is an absolutely unsafe condition!

2001 audi s4 drivers seat shifts while driving.first incident was repaired by dealer by replacing either seat frame or seat rails.same failure resurfaced within one year.shift is intermittant and and unpredictable.causes distraction and changes body position while moving.

Driver's seat rock back and forth when braking or accelerating.seat frame has already beenreplaced twice and it started rocking again.driver looses concentration by the sudden jolt of the forward movement of the seat when braking or rearward movement on acceleration.

I feel there is a design flaw in the electrical front seats in the b5 chassis a4/s4 (1996-2001 a4 and 2000-2002 s4). I owned a 1998 audi a4 and currently own a 2001 audi s4. Both have been plagued with a front seat that rocks back and forth under acceleration and braking, the extent of which worsened dramatically over time.the problem was never fixed on my a4 with the audi dealers i consulted telling me that the movement was "within" specs. Is it within spec to rock almost an inch? it seems like a serious safety concern since the greatest stresses would be during some kind of emergency braking manuever.eventually my s4 had the seat-frame replaced as the movement got to where it apparently was "out of spec". I asked for what the guideline was and was not provided with a quantitative answer. I know many others with this same issue that have not had any satisfactory resolution, and i have little confidence that the issue will not rear it's head with my "fixed" seat, probably within the next year or two.this has not been an issue with other cars i have been in made my honda, bmw, mercedes and more so the "all seats do this" argument presented by audi does not seem to hold much water. If the seat bracket and frame are wearing out of the manufacturer's tolerances within months of ownership, it seems like a faulty design which creates a possible and probable safety hazard for many people on the road. I urge you to work with audi to improve their seat/design/parts for existing owners before any serious injuries to owners or passengers occur.thank you.- andrew chang.

Normal day to day driving has produced failure of two sets of front wheel bearings on this car.the original equipment made noise at about 30,000 miles and failed completely at 62,000 miles.the second set i have now are rumbling and grinding now and they have only been on the car for 20,000 miles.consequence of a wheel bearing failure is loss of control (steering) of the vehicle.this is after running a car wearing ear plugs because the bearing noise makes the interior noise is so loud there could be hearing loss from extended trips.dealer only replaced bearing after it failed and welded itself to the wheel housing.i have the fried wheel bearing from one side and the housing it welded itself to.i also still have the second set because i am running on them and they are making the same rumbling, moaning, grinding noise the first set made.

Bridgestone-firestone tires supplied as original equipment on a 2001 audi s4 failed after approximately 10,000 miles usage.the first exhibited a tread separation bulge at approximately 10,000 miles.it was replaced by the spare in the trunk.the second tire (i.e., the spare from the trunk) failed after an additional usage of approximately 10,000 miles with a blowout on u.s. 95. Of five of these tires supplied as new equipment, two have failed catastrophically after approximately 10,000 miles; one at approximately 23,200 miles.these are very expensive tires, supposedly high performance.tire pressure was monitored using both electronic and mechanical pressure gauges, tires were kept at the recommended pressure of 42 psig.pressure checks on the remaining 3 tires after each failure revealed that they were properly inflated to 42 psig. I drove over a minor expansion crack in the pavement andsidewall of the right rear tire tore.next day, a different expansion crack caused similar damage in the left rear tire. (tiresize: 225/45 r17)( dot number:tire size: 225/45 r17 )

I feel that i am unsafe in my brand new car because of the tires.

Seemed to be a defect at the very top of the sidewall - 1 inch separation( dot number: tire size: 225x45x17 )
