Takata recall. The contact owns a 2000 audi a4. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v056000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms part not available.

Was driving vehicle started to drift to side of road. Side of road had gravel which gave way & vehicle started sliding sideways. Then it either flipped or rolled over. Neither air bags deployed. Driver & passenger sustained slight injuries. No emergency treatment.neither front nor side air bags deployed.*ml

I was headed north bound on the california 57 right before diamond bar blvd. When my car started to fish tail. I drove over to the shoulder lane and right as i merged over my back driver side tire snapped off taking half my wheel base with it leaving no way to put a spare tire on.

Gradual failure of the auto check system display leading to total failure and the inability to determine engine performance and safety data.

The vehicle had an electrical short circuit in the driver's side seat, which caused the entire electrical system to be inoperative.

Abs module failure & center cluster failure - 2000 audi a4 1.8t, 65,000 miles.abs comes on along with blinking brake lights.known audi issue.having abs rebuilt by module masters as audi wants $$ and any new abs module they will install will also fail.center cluster also failed, also known audi issue.

The lcd screen is pixelating. This is a problem with all audi 2000 a4s. The screen is not showing any warnings are problems

The lcd driver information center is pixelated, this normally wouldn't normally be a huge problem but this screen informs the driver of high engine temperatures, low oil, low coolant, etc. I'm unable to read the screen and have no idea what it is attempting to tell me when my car makes a very high pitched beep to inform me there is a problem. I've also discovered that this is an extremely common problem with cars of this model year and several other model years.

Lcd part of instrument cluster has progressively failed to the point that it is totally unreadable. It started out as a few missing lines in the display and now there are only a few lines left that still light up.

Failure of lcd panel in instrument panel. After less that 60 thousand miles. Display shows important information about vehicle such as overheating, oil pressure and other critical functions.

Pixels on the driver information displayin the instrument cluster failed gradually since the 2000 audi a4 quattro was 4 years old. Almost all pixels are dead now. The driver information display is located in the center of the instrument cluster. It includes information on the current operating status via autocheck control, which monitors the condition of certain components on the vehicle, such as the brake system, coolant level and engine oil pressure. Autocheck control takes place continuously when the ignition is switched on. Malfunctions and service reminders are also shown, accompanied by warning tones. The displays are prioritize with either red or yellow illuminated symbols. The red signals indicate a potentially hazardous situation requiring immediate driver attention; the yellow ones are cautionary information.

Ignition coil failure - twice once at the end of october and the dealer had my car for almost 3 weeks and the second was 3 days after i received the car back from the previously mentioned repair and they had the car for 18 days. The part had to be shipped from germany.the service man said that audiusa is not allowing all 4 coils to be replaced at once and has no intention to recall to car.

The seat heater failed, also when the vehicle was in reverse, and the consumer applied the brake, the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle wasn't drivable when the ignition coils failed.scc

While driving the vehicle intermittenly ignition switch light become innoperable. Dealer replace one of the ignition coil. Consumer states the problem is reocurring. Ts

Hello:recently i had a failure with the abs braking system on my 2000 audi a4, 2.8l. This failure was verified by the audi dealer in wilmington, de. From the dealer and according to many articles, this failure is common with this make. So common, that audi/vw did a recall on vw's, but not on audi's. This is not fair and i am hear to voice my safety concern.

Audi a4 oil sludge problem - low oil pressure, initial repair did not fix it, engine may sieze any day.

I am an owner of a 2000 a4 1.8t audi. The owner's manual states that the timing belt should be replaced at 105,000 miles and also states that it is a "long-lasting" belt. I have 95,000 miles on my vehicle and the tensioner and damper failed when i was driving on the highway at a speed of 65 mph; the car just stopped, and i had to navigate through four lanes of heavy traffic to the shoulder in a car with no power- scary and dangerous! the car had to be towed to the mechanic's, and since i was 5 hours away from home, i had to rent a car for the next 12 days while it was being repaired. $3300.00 later, and after two trips up there (10 hours round trip from home) i got my car back and was informed why the whole thing happened (defective parts).the mechanic showed me all the damage that was done-including all 20 broken and twisted valves! apparently, audi knows about these problems, and others have experienced the same thing, but audi has never made any attempt to notify me or other a4 owners of this serious and dangerous problem. This is a finicky car and when the timing belt goes, it also causes significant engine damage, which is very costly to repair. Because audi knows of this problem, and has not informed the customers, and because the owner's manual indicates replacement at 105,000 miles, i will adamantly pursue reimbursement from them through their corporate office. I read of one other person on this site who had the exact same problem--if you have also, please post your complaint!

The contacttook the vehicle to a local dealership for regular service and inspection, and thedealer found the head gaskets, mass flow sensors, vacuum hoses, intake manifold gaskets, and the throttle body needed to be replaced. Repairs were made.four months later the vehicle started making loud noises again. The contact waited another four months before taking the vehicle back to the dealer on december 29, 2005to have it serviced a second time. This time the dealer discovered the tie rod ends, chain tensioner and the oil coolant lines needed to be replaced. There were never any warning indicators other than the noise indicating a problem. The epc light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair.the engine control module was replaced.

Engine check light has illuminated, dealer put vehicle on computer and the engine checklight went off.hour later, it was on again.

Engine light illuminated. Took vehicle to dealer, and the light went off.

The vehicle experienced an oil leak.

I have a 2000 audi a4. There was a letter that was mailed to me explaining the defect with the vehicle 2 months after the incident happened. The timing belt on my vehicle broke resulting in severe engine damage. The manufacturer refuses to pay for the damage or fix it.

I am an owner of a 2000 a4 1.8t audi.the owners manual states that the timing belt should be replaced at 105,000 miles.i have 94,000 miles on my vehicle and the tensioner failed when i was driving on the highway at a speed of 60 mph.whenever i started investigating my options for repair of the vehicle i was informed that audi has experienced numerous failures due to a problem with this tensioner.audi has never made any attempts in notifying customers that there is a problem and that the tensioner should be replaced before the recommended 105,000 miles as stated in their owners maintenance package.the audi have zero tolerance so whenever a timing belt fails there is significant damage to the head and valves.i was quoted a price of $7,500 to have the vehicle repaired by audi, i choose to take the vehicle to another auto service dealer for repair which cost $4,000.i strongly feel that audi should be responsible for the damage in excess of the required replacement of the belt due to the fact the they were aware of the tensioner problems and the damage if not replaced before what is stated in their owners manual, i believe that they have deceived the customer.

Dt:2000 audi a4.the consumerstated there were fumes inside the cab.the consumerspent over $1400 tuning it up and the problem still existed. The consumerread on several websites that this was common for the vehicle. The consumercontacted dealership, but his call was not returned. The consumer has not yet contacted the manufacturer. The consumer started noticing a smell almost immediately after he purchased the vehicle.

2000 audi a4. Consumer writes in regards to the ovd 2 unit in audi and vw vehicles *tgwthe consumer stated the problem involved the ovd 2 unit which communicated the smog test results to the computer and dmv. Although, the vehicle would pass the emissions test, there would be a communication error. The dmv required the communication and made no exception. The root of the problem stemmed from the ovd 2 unit placed into the radio. When the radio is replaced with a non audi or vw radio the ovd 2 unit is no longer there. The consumer was informed the price to replace the radio containing the ovd 2 unit is $1000 and up.

The head lights failed while driving.

Fuel sending unit malfunction on 2000 audi a4. Affects sedan and avant models. Results in fuel gauge reading approximately 1/4 tank lower than actual fuel level.note: a6 model has been recalled for this issue, and over 50 a4 owners have informed me (via web) that they experience this problem, but audi has not issued a recall for the a4, despite admitting that it uses the same sending unit components.*la

As soon as my car hit 50,000 (the warranty expiration) numerous problems mysteriously appeared:the motor for the rear passenger window failed ($200 to repair), the drive shaft started slipping ($1,500) and the trunk latch failed to close securely ($150).

The transmission fell onto the highway while driving.

2001 audi a4 began to smoke. Drove 5 minutes to a friend's house and parked in driveway, consumer went inside of house, and car was sitting for 20 minutes. Then, someone knocked, and told consumer thatcar was sitting in the middle of traffic. Car disengaged on its own, and almost ran over two children. Took to dealer, and they saidback brake pads, and rotors were burned to a crisp. No conclusion to why this happened or why car rolled into traffic on its own.also, the brake pedal went to the floor when the consumer applied the brakes.the consumer's investigation showed that there were numerous reports about spongy brakes regarding this vehicle.the consumer feels unsafe driving this vehicke but the dealer and the manufacturer could not find solution to the problem.

Wheel bearings should not fail at 5000 miles!

Persistent failure of the center differential transmission component.there were no events leading up to the failure, other than normal operation of the vehicle.the part was replaced at 70,000 miles by sewickley audi and partially covered by warranty (75%).the center differential was replaced again and again at 100,000 miles (along with the whole transmission) - not covered by warranty.audi service (at paul miller audi) replaced the entire transmission for a very costly repair ($8,800) and stated that a failure of the center bearing in the transmission occured prior to the failure of the first center differential.*la

Backing out of the driveway there was a very loud bang noise in the rear.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who greased thedrive shaft.*nlm

Audi complaint and recall requestthe anti lock braking system no longer works like it should. When the vehicle is started i get a solid amber abs warning light along with a flashing brake light accompanied with three warning tones. Upon doing an internet search i immediately realized this problem with the bosch 5.3 abs control module unit is extremely common on 1998 to 2001 audi and vw models. Audi/vw created a service bulletin to repair vw's in the same date range (bulletin 0517 nhtsa id number: 10016037), but ignored the issue with audi's.as per the vehicle's owner's manual, it states that while the system is in this state, the rear brakes may lock up under braking. This is a serious problem that will not allow me to brake quickly in emergency situations. The cost of replacing the abs module from the dealership was quoted at over $1000. A simple internet search reveals that thousands of audi owners have voiced complaints. This is a blatant disregard for their customer's safety and a recall should be required.

1.when the abs is activated during snow or ice conditions.2.the brakes "stick" and the abs is not fully deactivated once your foot is off the brake pedal.often the rear driver side brake is still engaged slightly during driving.when stopped you can smell the rubbing brakes and you can tell the brake is rubbing while driving as it slows down the vehicle.it usually unsticks after several miles of driving or leaving the car sit overnight not running.3.i've taken the vehicle to the dealer several times over the years, but they tell me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes or abs system.

Complaint received via e-mail." the abs module malfunctions when the brake pedal is depressed at 30 mph and slower, the pedal begins to thump and kick back at my foot. The noise is so loud that it can be heard over the stereo. Even the rear passengers can hear the noise.i feel as though my stopping distance is extended by this. This is not only annoying but also dangerous in inclement weather conditions. The manufacture has not answer for what causing this. The dealership has done all they could with the equipment supplied by the manufacture. They replaced the module, but don't know if that will fix the problem. Module was not replaced.*tc

The abs and brake light is flashing on my dash board.the repair shop says that the abs control module needs to be replaced.the cost is about $1000!my car has about 120,000 miles on it.

Abs intermittent. System goes from fine, to inoperative with no warning. Details: intermittently get three beeps from the instrument cluster, with the yellow abs light lit steadily, and the red brake warning light blinking.while the system is in this state, the abs control module is not available via diagnostic interface, and the abs is inoperative. Shop diagnostics says:01203 - electrical connection between abs and instrument cluster 03-10 - no signal - intermittent details of affected equipment:abs control module is 8e0-614-111-a (bosch abs/eds version 5.3).

There are hundreds of complaints online about the anti-lock braking failing in audi's and vw's built between 1996 and 2001.according to my mechanic, this is a very common problem that they've seen a lot of. See many owners discussing the problem here:http://audi-vw-abs-recall.blogspot.com/2005/07/audi-and-vw-please-recall-cars-between.htmlthe abs is a very important piece of safety equipment, and it seems irresponsible to me that audi has failed to recall a very common and known manufacturing defect.

2000 audi a4 with only 51000 miles. Abs brake light coming on loud beep and flashing brake light in panel. Will cost 1200.00 to fix. Many people having same problem with other year models by audi.

My car has less than 50,000 miles and i having abs brake problems.the brakes pulse a low speeds for no apparent reason.there are no warning lights displayed from a failure in this system.this car has not been in any accidents and it was dealer maintained until the warranty ran out 1 year ago.

Abs brake failure resulting in unsafe abs brake function.need to replace abs control module.this is a recurring problem based on a search of the internet.

When brakes are wet after driving a long distance and are not used - they fade the first time you use the brake pedal.

I have been having significant problems with braking during/after any type of rain.i have discussed this problem with many dealerships and they have denied ever hearing a problem exists.as common sense indicates, during any type of rain braking power will be decreased. However, the braking loss in this car is beyond acceptable limits. Please look into the problem accordingly.

Brake failure occurred under wet conditions.brakes were applied at 30 mph, but did not engage for a few seconds (3).brakes "chattered" before car eventually stopped, and luckily there was clear traffic ahead of me.

While driving in heavy rain, the rotors felt as though they had a sheen on them that caused the brakes not to function immediately.almost as if the vehicle was sliding on ice.this occured 4 times in the coarse of a 150 mile trip from philadelphia to new york city.

Under wet conditions, braking is delayed.especially noticeable when traveling at highway speeds, braking suddenly, and for a moment, brakes seem to not work.

During highway driving in the rain, water develops on the brake pads/rotors, causing the delay in braking.water buildup seems to occur after about 2 minutes of driving in moderate or heavy rain.braking delay is about 1.5 seconds.when brakes grab, they sometimes grap unevenly, pulling the car to one side or the other, until all 4 corners have cleared the excess water...then normal braking response resumes.i have worked as a professional driver, driving different vehicles over long distances...this is not normal!!!i know from on-line forums that audi has not diagnosed the problem, and as such, does not have a fix out yet.i tried replacing brake pads, this did not help.

In rain there is a 2 second delay after the brakes are applied before they bite.this only happens in wet conditions.

Initial braking in wet conditions is poor.after approximately 30 seconds of non-use of brakes in heavy mist or spray, or any precipitation, there is little to no braking action for approximately 1 second after the pedal has been depressed.no brake pedal "pulsing" (associated with abs activation) is noticed.cruise control was not active each time the problem was noticed.the problem is more noticeable at highway speed.brakes are otherwise excellent.

Wet-braking problem. During heavy rain, water droplets accumulate on disks and cause a 2 second delay in braking action!!!.

When driving in rainy conditionsbrakesfailed to engagefor several seconds after depressing pedal, causing avery dangerous delay.

Audi a4 2000 1.8t(1) abs light flashing.brought to dealer.quoted $600 for repair kit, $1500 for new module.both prices do not include labor.searched internet and hundreds of other audi a4 owners have experienced the same issue.(2)abs is now intermittent on my car and warning light is on constantly.(3)can't correct right away b/c my audi dealership is 6 months back ordered.i assume because so many owners are experiencing the same problem.

Abs computer fails, resulting in abs system to become inoperable.

Recently the abs and brake alarm came on and when i went to have it repaired the service man said there was a four week back order on the abs module.he said that this part is going bad in all the audi a4's and some a 6's and he can't even get the part from a junked audi.

Car has only 62,000 miles, but anti-lock brake system controller failed.manufacturer refused to replace; replaced at my expense.

Brakes do not perform well in wet weather.

I was driving at night on the road entering a highway at about 35 mph when i spotted something on the road. Being that my vehicle is awd and equipped with abs i broke and swerved. I felt no response form the brakes and by that time (2-4 seconds) my car had lost control and started to spin. The car spun and went to an exit lane and hit another car forcing it off the road before coming to a complete stop. The car is now undriveable.

Vehicle experiences degraded brake performance in wet conditions.dealer is scheduled to inspect vehicle.

While traveling insnowy conditions, and when depressing brake pedal vehicle went into extended stopping distance. Please provide further information.

Faulty abs control module...cause loss of abs braking in 2000 audi a4 with on 60k miles.this has cause many close calls as it is $1500 to repair.

In wet weather, 1 - 2 second delay from brake pedal application to brakes deploying. Dealer contends that brakes are operating within specification.

My vehicle has a problem the my anti-lock braking system light coming on and my brake light blinking. I've had this problem and though it was fixed the lights keep displaying. This i believe is a common problem amongst other owners of my vehicle as well.

Braking is poor in wet conditions.takes 1 to 2 seconds before brakes respond.

Brakes take 2-3 seconds to respond on first use when driving in very wet conditions. Has happened about 12 times in the last year. Dealer service department offered no fix.

Abs and brake lights on the instrument panel came on and went off intermittently, along with beeping alerts. Dealer determined that the abs control module failed.the vehicle was no longer under warranty.*la

Abs light is on, and brake light is blinking. I took the car to the dealer and i was told my abs module is faulty. After looking at the forums online it seems that this is a defect that thousands of audi/vw owners are getting. Cost of repair is very high. Why isn't there a recall yet???

Audi a4 2000, faulty abs module.

Abs module/sensor failure. This problem occurs frequently with other audi owners and has been thoroughly documented on sites such as mycarstats.com.basically the abs and brake lights would come on while driving, accompanied by a beep.after initial research, i was able to confirm the module had failed and would require replacement. Local audi dealer quoted 1500 for the module plus labor. Luckily, i found an alternative by sending the faulty module to modulemaster.com. This company specializes in repairing defektive circuitry. The labor is warrantied for the life of the vehicle and costs 300.00 (including shipping and misc. Stuff). The car was still driveable while the module was out. Their website contained a video on how to properly access the module, remove it, and replace it once it was repaired. All in all, i saved myself '1200 plus labor'. I would like express my disgust with all audi dealers who sell their modules for these outrageous prices. One thing none of them admitt to is that the reason why these bosch modules fail is because of a known defekt in the circuitry. So their $1200 modules will eventually fail too.

I experienced failure of absin a 2000 audi a4 avant quattro. This is the well-known and widely reported problem with the bosch 5.3 abs control module unit.the unit spontaneously failed without any reason, at about 80k miles. The consequences are the abs does not work and the part to replace it is about $1500.i have yet to replace or repair it at this point, hoping vw/audi will do something about it (a recall would be nice).

Abs module failing and or loosing communication.

Abs control module failure. Searched forums and info boards and it's a very common problem.

Antilock braking system failing at 80k miles.increasing the risk for rear brakes to lock up the wheels possibly causing vehicle to spin out under heavy braking.

Earlier model audi a4 autos have a very common problem related to the failure of the abs control module.failure to repair immediately at a cost of up to $3000 (if audi can find parts) will result in rear wheel lockup and potential loss of vehicle control.audi warns/admits of this in its owners manual.

The vehicle experienced a brake fluid leak.

Brake action is delayed when there is rain.nlm

While traveling consumer heard a noise. The next day, a technician serviced the vehicle andfounda part of the brake padsbroke off.

Passenger front brake pad sepatated from the metal backing plate while within service specification (0.25 in of pad) and resulted in long braking distances and greatly reduced pedal pressure.pedal pressure could not be recovered under repetitive brake actuations.the car became unsafe to operate at any speed.there was no warning before the failure. Audi of america refuses to replace the defective part under audi assured warranty stating that this is not related to a manufacturers defect.

While driving in heavy rain, the rotors felt as though they had a sheen on them that caused the brakes not to function immediately.almost as if the vehicle was sliding on ice.this occured 4 times in the coarse of a 150 mile trip from philadelphia to new york city.

Brakes power assist fail at / just after startup when selecting reverse or drive while the air conditioning is on. I reported the problem to the audi exchange in highland park, il last year. They were unable to reproduce the problem, at the time as i was unaware that it only occurred when the a/c was on and at low speed after initial start up. This occurred again this summer when i was trying to move out of a parking spot and was unable to stop. The result was that i hit another car at low speed causing no damage to either.

The heat shields above my catalytic converters caught fire and had to be replaced, at a large expense to me.upon receipt of the replacement parts, it was noticed that the parts had been redesigned.i believe that the manufacturer has found a fundamental issue with their original design and is quietly replacing them.the problem with this is that it takes your car catching on fire to know you need to replace them.

Consumer will provide the defects on his vehicle.
