I have a recurring problem with my air bag system on my 2009 acura mdx (vehicle no [xxx]) which my local dealer has been unable to resolve.i first noticed the problem when the vehicle had approximately 21,000 miles.i contacted the service department at kearny mesa acura and informed them the check air bag light was coming on.kearny mesa acura asked if it was on all of the time.i explained that the warning light was on intermittently (some days it was on and some days it was off).they said not to bring the car in until it is just on all of the time (everyday).several months later it had degraded to the point where the light was on every day, so i brought the vehicle in for service.they tested the vehicle and replaced apart on the driver??s side airbag (part no 78055-stx-a10).this was at 23,978 miles (on 11/9/2010).within 6 months to a year, the light came on again.again, i was informed to wait until the light stayed on consistently (everyday).once that occurred, i brought the car in again.kearny mesa again tested the vehicle and replaced the same part (part no 78055-stx-a10).this was at 46,511 miles (on 8/2/2012).once again, within about 6 months to a year, the light came on.to this day, the problem has not been resolved and acura wants to charge me $130 diagnosis plus repairs.i feel this is not acceptable on several levels.first of all, this is a recurring problem which began while the car was under warranty (and very early in the life of the vehicle).secondly, it appears kearny mesa acura is not properly diagnosing/repairing the problem.it is possible that another component is causing the failure of the part which is being repeatedly replaced (possibly wiring etc).i've also tried writing to acura directly - president of honda north america.they said i would just have to pay for any diagnosis or repairs myself.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Was told on today show (nbc) that could check to see if acura air bags need to ne replaced even though not an official recall.please let me know if these airbags are the ones that are to be replaced and if so, when. Many thanks.

Ongoing problem with 2009 acura mdx- the check engine warning light sporadically illuminates while driving indicating that the vehicle should be brought to an acura repair facility. The dealership service department stated that it is a faulty sensor and it is a common problem with the 2009 acura mdx. The dealership further stated that it would be approximately $700.00 for them to make the repair as acura has not yet issued a recall notice for the sensor.

All door locks, windows, trunk, fuel door, and sunroof does not work

Hfl module # 39770-stx-a011-m1 stopped working preventing connection to my cell phone. 2009 mdx with 92,004 miles.called all the dealerships in my area and others on the internet and no one has the module.i was told by them it's on national back order for sone time now ( 2/5/2020 ) .doing further research brought to light there is a 2016or 2017 class action suit on this hfl module/system failing and draining power from the battery, causing premature failure of said battery, which also happened to me as well as no start conditions which also has happened to me. So far no stall outs with the vehicle moving. I currently have a hfl module on order from acura and was told because their on back order it could be several months before they get their order.also they want my old module which they added a $50.00 core charge to the price. Though there maybe just a few official complaints listed here just check the web.there is obviously a fault in these modules and the manufacture is either doing reverse failure analysis on the returned modules or wirse yet fixing the broken ones and sending them out as the replacements.either way they obviously know is wrong with these modules.this module is not what is considered a normal attrition piece like tires, brakes, light bulbs , belts , hoses.when was the last time you planned on replacing a broken radio in your vehicle, you don't.i shouldn't have to plan or pay to replace my hfl module, quality control and manufacture loyalty to their customers is abismal.

"nox sensor wiring harness chewed by mouse" per acura dealership. There is no evidence of rodent damage or presence elsewhere in the vehicle. According to the acura dealership, there was a problem with the prior models prior to 2009, but my particular car doesn't have the problem.the wiring has been covered by honda rodent deterrent tape as showing in the pictures.i have contacted acura/honda dealerships, their extended warranty customer service and also the irrespective, acura/honda manufacturer customer service. The same thing happened to my other car (honda odyssey 2009) within a span of one week with exactly similar presentation. When i requested information from the above sources, i was told that this was confidentialinformation and is not available for customers and that is it is a rare event and not related to manufacturing defects and also there was no definitive trend in acura/honda(same company) nox sensor wiring harness chewed by rodents and have refused to cover it under extended warranty program to which i have subscribed/purchased. I have another entry regarding the other vehicle.

Bluetooth stopped working and a few weeks later, my car wouldn't start.i replaced the battery and a few days later the car stalled on me as i was pulling out of my spot!!!!!i went to the acura dealer and explained to the guy that my battery kept draining.he asked me if my bluetooth stopped working, i was shocked because i hadn't mentioned any issues with my bluetooth but i let him know that in fact, the bluetooth had stopped.the rep said it's a common problem in my vehicle.had to replace the bluetooth and paid $600!!!!my friends sister has the same make car and her bluetooth stopped working and her car battery keeps going dead.it's very scary since apparently i must have started the car right before the battery died again.imagine what would've happened if it had stalled on a highway or a busy street!

The windshield wipers would just come on and not shut off.we tried several things but the wipers would not stop.i had to take the fuse out so it cause further damage.

The message center came on telling me to check the oil level and pressure.pull over asap and have it towed to nearest dealer.this has happened several times now and each time they say its a sensor but how many can there be and how can they keep going out.when this is happening the wiperswill short out as well and radio will fade in and out.this has to be a defect within the electrical.

The battery has been drained on three separate occasions this year (2021).i replaced the battery after the first occurrence.each time i have had to use a battery jump to restart the vehicle which sufficed to get it operating and return home.on the last occasion, the car started to display dash board warning messages before arriving at home after driving only 15 miles.this came with a fully charged battery installed to get the car restarted.previously i could see no error codes, but following this latest incident the awd error code 77-01 is displayed by an obd reader.the vehicle began to run roughly and flashed many dashboard warnings as the battery began to draw down to zero power.latest incident required a battery replacement instead of just a jump to restart.

The bluetooth module drains the battery when the vehicle is turned off and i am afraid that my vehicle could be turned off by draining the battery when running causing a safety issue.i have registered the case with acura customer server and have not helped me with the free replacement. The acura case number is [xxx]2009 acura mdx awdvin: 2hnyd28679h[xxx][xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Approximately 3 months ago i went to start the medic and it would not start.no lights or any other accessories were left on.the car was jumped and started.being the car was 4 years old and i had reviews of battery problems in the medic, i had the battery replaced.about two weeks later it would not start again.it was jumped again and taken to an auto repair shop to be tested.the repair shop said the battery was weak, so it was replaced again.it's been about 2 months now and today when i went to start it, the battery was dead again.three batteries do not go bad that quickly, there is a problem with the electrical system in this vehicle.i have noticed other complaints with this same issue on this web site.

My mdx has only 62,400 miles and today i got a message "check starter system" due to the hfl module is draining the battery. Luckily the car was in my garage at the time. I had to charge the battery so i could start the car. All the info i have read online states the the hfl module gets real hot and can cause fire. My garage isunder my bedroom. This is a part made by johnson controls, acura needs to recall this item.

Car stalled while driving. Towed it to the dealer the dealer repaired the instrument panel following is the statement from dealer 'found instrument internal defective causing vehicle to stall remove and replace gauge recheck operation'.

Acura mdx 2009happened two times within 3 weeks.while driving car lost all electric, entire dashboard went dead, no headlights, no door/trunk locks, no navigation, no dvd, no radio, car stalled and couldn't be started again. Had to be towed. Second time same thing happened while approaching an intersection and trying to make a left turn. Car was towed again.

Ihave accura mdx2009.unable to open car door using my key.could not open trunk.both sides light signals do not work.called aaa service to open door.vehicle was stationary

Bluetooth handfree link (hfl)in my 2009 acura mdx was draining my battery.i had to call towing service a few times to start the vehicle.when i opened the compartment where hands free link device is located, i noticed that the device was extremely hot (fire hazard).finally, it gave up after a while.this happened after my extended warranty expired at 100k miles. My state (state of illinois)requires using a hands free link while driving, so, i feel acura should recall the hfl unit and replace this free of charge to comply with the state law.will appreciate if nhtsa looks into this case and requires acura/honda to issue an immediate recall.this is a very common issue in many acuras based on my google search.

I brought the car into the dealer because i was having transmission problems or power steering problems. I indicated that the car makes a whine at about 1500 rpm. The dealer chose to treat it as a power steering problem. The power steering pump was replaced. There was still a whine although less. The car rpm hangs up on deceleration to a stop. Some times when going down hill the car does not upshift until the car is accelerated even though the road slope is zero. The dealer never informed me when i brought the vehicle in for the original concern that there were some problems with the transmission or torque converter hanging up.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx. While starting the vehicle, the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the nox sensor harness had been chewed on by rodents and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.

The contact owned a 2009 acura mdx. While driving 25 mph, the check engine indicator flashed. The contact pulled the vehicle over to a shoulder lane and exited the vehicle prior to the engine compartment catching fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The insurance company towed the vehicle to a storage area. The vehicle was destroyed. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and provided no additional assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Vehicle was running normal.after sitting outside on a very cold day in wisconsin, the car would not start. It was towed to bergstrom acura in appleton, wi where a new starter was installed and it started. There was an immediate loud knocking noise.inspection indicated a large piece of the #5 piston broke off due to a latent manufacturing defect and destroyed the engine. Although this failure occurred in the shop, the piston could have failed on the road which could have seized the engine and caused an accident. An identical failure was also found in canada on vin [xxx] that occurred jan 12, 2015. Acura has been contacted and refused to consider them related and has not logged them as potential safety defects. Photos of the failed parts are available upon request.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

This vehicle is only 2 years and 2 months old (bought in nov. 2009), yet the battery keeps failing (and there were no lights left on after the engine was shut off, and nothing done out of the ordinary with the car on the 3 occasions this week that the "shut off" occurred).we've had to call acura roadside assistance 3 times this week (week of jan. 9th, 2012).today is jan. 10, 2012 and we had to be boosted this morning again.we eventually took it in to the manhattan acura dealership today (1/10/12) and was told that the battery was, indeed, defective.we were also informed that others have come in to that location with the same issue (all acura owners).perhaps, this should be officially noted just in case there are plenty more with this experience.

2009 acura mdx with less than 4000 miles developed an issue with timing belt pulleys, timing belt and front part of engine.

My 2009 mdx with 3500+ miles has been taken to dealer 3 times in the last month. Once i had to get it towed to dealership. First time i was told that they was issue with poor quality timing belt pulley. So timing belt got shredded. They had to replace the both. They took almost week to replace it. With in a day, 2009 mdx developed issue. This time there was an issue with catalytic converter. They took another week to replace. Again with in two days, "check emission system" came up again. This time i was told they would have to replace another catalytic converter and also sub converters. I am really concerned about the quality this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx. The contact stated that while starting the ignition, the air conditioner was activated and a loud abnormal noise emitted from inside of the vehicle. The failure only occurred during the initial start up. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who informed that the malfunction was contributed to the faulty air conditioner support bolts. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Low beam headlight is extremely dim, can barely see at night. Changing the light bulb does not solve. Headlight cover is not foggy or cloudy, it is clear. Suspecting internal reflector issue as acura has done recalls on other models for the same issue but not on rdx.

New cars are being made with headlights way too bright, even on the dim settings.when the oncoming car is on the same level and orientation (i.e., flat road), the brightness is not too bad, but roads are not flat.there is no question about increase in brightness in recent years.in connecticut (where i live), it is a common scenario to be on a corner combined with a small elevation peak resulting in oncoming headlights pointing directly at you.with newer cars, the result is momentary total blindness (looking low and to the right does not help).

My headlights in my 2009 mdx are getting very foggy like they turnnig white in outside surface is hard to see at night time whit the low beans i use the high beans to be able to see i take it to a repair shop and they cannot do nothing i think this is a safety hazard i see others acura whit the same problem they sure put this problem in recall...thanks

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx. The contact stated that the rear automatic hatchback sensor failed. The hatchback closed on the contact's hands, resulting in injuries to the fingers. The contact believed the failure to be a safety hazard because the he was attempting to stop the hatchback from closing when it shut and slammed his fingers into the door.the vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the failure. The failure and current mileages were 26,000.

Acura mdx (2009) vibration issues:since purchasing the vehicle new, there is a vibration driving at speeds exceeding 70 mph.the vibration can be felt through the chasis and steering wheel.the dealer has replaced the tires, rims, drive shaft and performed multiple balancing and alignments.the manufacturer representative could not resolve the issue initially, but later suggested the replacement of the drive shaft.this worked initially but the problem has resurfaced again.i filed a lemon law claim that acura has neglected to respond to fully. They tried to fix it, but the problem is still present and getting worse.when driving the car, it feels at times, as if the wheels are going to fall off.it is often worse when driving up hill when the car is cold and the weather cold.it appears to get better as the car warms up, though.this also appears to be a well documented concern that is documented on discussion boards such as: edmonds- http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx/.f13bae6?displayrecentwhere there are currently 59 posts on the topic and all similar to my experience.

Engine oil pump (premature failure) - i own a 2001 tl and 2009mdx. On the mdx, i have found premature failure of oil pump. The vehicle has been driven less than 8000 miles per year and failed at 85000 miles. A leak over time could result in engine ceasing. On the tl, it took 225000 miles to replace the oil pump.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx.the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and approaching a stop sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact shifted the vehicle to neutral and back to drive and the vehicle responded slowly. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,061.

I took my 2009 mdx into acura dealer for shudder at 35-45 mph at 68k. Service tech wrote up repair order as pcm update.they did not document the shudder complaint. Even tho i drove with service tech and then he drove also, verifying shudder. I had to go back2nd time as pcm didn't take according to dealer andthat's why shuddering continued after 1st pcm update. Now at 107k, shudder is back. Mdx out of extended warranty by 2000 miles and acura/honda refuses goodwill repair. This is my second mdx. The torque converter needed replaced in my 2003 mdx. Acura assured me when i purchased the 2009 that this known problem was resolved. Obviously the torque converter/transmission continues to be faulty. I'm wondering if the pcm update is disguising the problem pushing the mdx past the mileage warranty.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx.the contact stated that the seat belt that hangs from the ceiling to the middle seat became wrapped around the child's neck.the child was unable to breath properly.the child was seated in the rear driver's side seat.the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failure.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 10,000.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx. The contact stated that the headrest would push her head forward, causing her neck and back pain. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that they were unable to alter the vehicle design. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 24,600.updated 5/7/12 the consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 05/23/12.

There must be a defect in my 2009 acura mdx head restraint system. I believe it has resulted in or contributed to a neck injury . I have had neck pain bad enough to require four months of physical therapy and five surgical procedures. The head rest forces my neck and head into an unnaturalforward position.the head restonly moves up and down and not forward and back.i am unable to adjust the seat and steering wheel to accommodate for the lack of adjustable in the head rest.

On june 30th 2019 after leaving from work i was on my way to pier 1 which is approximately 2 miles away. I turned into the parking lot parked in front of pier 1 and all of a sudden my car accelerated out of control.it jumped the curb crashed through pier 1 window into the store and didn't stop until it hit a wall. At this time i'm in shock glass is every where and i could move i hear people in the background telling me to get out of the car but i was frozen from what just happened. I just want to hold acura accountable because i see this has happened to several people

Not sure if this related to takata airbags. My wife was in bad rollover accident involving a 2009 acura mdx on nov 5, 2015. At 5:15 pm on 11/5, thursday, it was dark and raining as she was heading east on us route 12 close to the arcelormittal usa office and slipped, veered off the road and suv rolled over and cart wheeled and fell in a ditch. The suv was upside down when i arrived after a first responder called me from the scene. Not sure why she veered off when she was on the left most lane. She suddenly crossed 2 lanes and shoulder and ended up in a ditch.she was not fatigued since it was less than 3 min since she left from the office and we have blue tooth handsfree in our 2009 acura mdx tech. Not sure if the air bag went off falsely or if she had a tire burst. I know both front tires were flat when i saw it in the salvage yard. All she recalls is air bags going off - not sure if they deployed before or after she hit the ditch... After 4-5 years of usage, the bluetooth doesn't work any more.the acura dealer said it costs more than $600 to be replaced with new one. I checked up the internet, and lots of acura mdx owners have already acknowledged this problem and looking for a solution on the internet.everyone has exactly same problem and itexactly happened 4 -5 years after purchase.

While driving on the brooklyn-queens expressway (i 278 e)at a high rate of speed the car stalled nearly causing an accident, truck and tractor trailers came barreling down towards my stalled vehicle and abruptly changing lanes to avoid crashing into my car. I dialed 911 and the nypd highway unit sent a towtruck immediately to avoid accidents (i was petrified waiting for the tow) the dealer identified a throttle failure, replaced the throttle again for the second time.

The contact owned a 2009 acura mdx. While the contact's spouse was driving 5 mph pulling into a parking space, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated and crashed into a store. The contact was unsure if any warning indicators were illuminated. The air bags deployed and the driver sustained minor injuries, which did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer stated that they would not send an inspector to diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx. The contact stated that while reversing, the brake pedal was depressed as the vehicle suddenly accelerated causing the contact to crash into a pole. The contact placed the vehicle into drive and the vehicle proceeded to accelerate, and then crashed into a building. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The manufacturer investigated the acceleration and braking system and concluded that the sudden acceleration was not caused by a manufacturing defect. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 56,000.

Car stalled while driving. Towed to the dealer. Identified as an internal throttle problem. Dealer replaced throttle body. Following is the statement of the dealer 'performed diag found internal throttle failure'.'throttle body - replace'

The windshield wipers would just come on and not shut off.we tried several things but the wipers would not stop.i had to take the fuse out so it cause further damage.

The contact owns a 2009 acura mdx.while driving approximately 75 mph the windshield wipers and the windshield wiper fluid engaged on its own and remained on. The vehicle was taken directly to an authorized dealer where the fuse to the windshield wipers were disconnected and the contact was told this was a known failure.the contact was then informed to take the vehicle to another authorized dealer because they did not have the parts needed to remedy the failure. The parts were not available. The failure and current mileages were 14,808.

I purchased an acura certified 2009 mdx base with bridgestone dueler h/l 400 tires on it. The quality of bridgestone tires were unacceptable.these tires had no grip on wet road and road covered with light snow.there were multiple cases when my all wheel drive skidded on the highway during lane change.due to safety concerns, i had to replace all four tires within a few months of purchasing the vehicle.acura should not use bridgestone tires in its vehicles.also, firestone/bridgestone should recall these tires and refund money for the replacement cost of my tires.will appreciate if you please look into this issue.
