Takata recall. The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v027000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated the air bag warning light was illuminated. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect. Consumer stated light is still on.

Consumerstates that airbag light is constantly on.consumer says that air bag light is onand there is no passenger sitting in the passenger's seat.

The warning sensor on the srs systems keeps failing. The dealer is fixing, but i'm told that when the warning light is on the srs system will not deploy. Thus, the repeated faults in the srs sensing system is creating potential safety issue as the warning system is (in effect) shutting down the srs system. While the dealer has been fixing, there appears to be no urgency to warn customers that this kind of warning sensor actually keeps the air bag from deploying (manual is quite vague on this point). I am pursuing state lemon law remedies to get new car as i am now at the 4th failure of this component. Thought you should know about this systematic issue.

I have an acura mdx 2001.since i bought this vehicle theyellow warning light (side airbag) is always lighting up even driving the car, when i'm stop, most of the time its lighting up.i'm worried maybe one day it will blow up.also under the chasis whenbacking up then forward there was a noise that the crank might brake.

Air bag light on

Code 9002 reported. 8/29/2004 mil. 43469 reported srs light is staying on although turned off last visit.code 9002 ds ordered module. 9/29/2004 ds installed sop srs module. Cause:shorted. Code 751100 srs control unit replaced s/b# 02-018, 177960-s3v-305 unit, part# 77960s3v305. As driving off lot light came back on. 6/14/15 still noticing srs light. Ds doc. B c/s srs light on check and advise. Was told by ds it was a safety hazard and the airbag most likely would not deploy in event of accident. 2/17/15 airbag light on check advise. Code 9002, op ds unit needs to be replaced, 90241 caas. 3/31/15 ds stated that srs airbag not recognizing passenger in drivers front seat, sensor needs replacing too. The two parts must be done together. At a cost to me. Car was still under warrantee when this all began. Every time unit was reset it comes back on before leaving lot. Current day airbag still a hazard/safety issue. Advise.

No replacement part available to correct problem.when srs light comes on for whatever reason, airbags probably will not deploy in a collision.

A vehicle crossed the median on my local freeway and collided head on with my 2001 acura mdx.even though the car was totaled, none of the airbags went off.police on the scene and emergency personnel thought this was very unusual and should be reported to nhtsa.

Srslight is on, engine light is transmission is miss firing, fuel tank has a link. Transmission been fixon a recall before

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While at a traffic light with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle lunged forward. The contact also stated that the supplemental restraint system warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 161,218.

While driving 55 mph, consumer hit a center divider on highway, airbags did not deploy. Driver injured with frontal impact.*jg

Acura mdx-low impact left front collision with stationary object, witnessed by outside of vehicle and driver persons, noted deployment of both front airbags approximately 2 seconds after collision.auto body shop 20 year experienced owner, without knowledge of above volunteered that he was surprised that airbags deployed.western states regional manager for acura called in to ascertain why srs light would not extinguish after repair and new airbag and "brain" placed in vehicle-1 month delay.after 2nd "brain" replaced, srs light off until approximately 5 weeks later-this time passenger sensor replaced. *nlm

Srs system failure (3 * times )air bags system shut downdealer repaired problems ( 50-50 co pay ).

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the srs warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to underriner honda (3643 pierce pkwy, billings, mt 59106, (406)255-2350) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the seat belt switch needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Seatbelts do not work properly for a booster seat. Cosumer feels there's a defect in the way they were made.seat will slide 7 to 9 inches in a collision.consumer states booster seat is a common model manfactured by century products, the seat belt strap goes through the back of the booster seat to install it, because the seat belt buckle of the vehicle is not on a small strap like those in the second row seating that allows it to move to a vertical position, consumer states unable to get booster seat to install properly, the buckle will not rotate back far enough and the booster seat when buckled in as tight as possible will move 7-9 inches, consumer has taken the vehicle to the local police dept. And an officer who is certified could not make the installation either, consumer then took vehicle to dealership and could not provide a solution ,except for trying a locking clip on the belts but that did not work either.

Acura mdx d5 light was flashing then sudddenly all elec went out.car went another mile before stopping in the road.luckily my family was able to get out of car and move to safety.this model as evidenced by blogs on the internet, has many significant design flaws.i am told that this new issue will take another $1000 to fix (module and sensor).this car has a significant issue with its motor mounts as well.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the ignition interlock system failed and the contact was able to remove the key while the gear was not in drive gear. The contact was able to get back into the vehicle and secure the gear in park. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for have a diagnostic test performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 160,000.

The 2001 acura mdx touring is equipped with front driver and front passenger heated seats controlled by three-position rocker switches (one switch to control driver seat a second switch to control passenger seat) in the center console allowing passenger to choose between low-off-high temperature settings. The seats are designed to warm the seat cushion and the lumbar cushion of both front driver and front passenger seats. Currently, the front passenger seat works as designed. The front driver seat, however, only heats the lumbar cushion when the heater is engaged and the seat cushion does not heat. While cleaning the vehicle i noticed white rubber underneath the driver seat. The rubber looked like wire insulation and some of the pieces looked to be charred. I suspect that the heating element could have broken or shorted somehow causing the wire insulation to crack and over time to disintegrate.my concern is that a break in the heating element and/or circuitry could result in a short or spark or even a fire which could cause harm to the driver if sitting in that seat were such an event to occur and potentially cause a hazardous situation if such an event occurred en route where a driver's reaction to shock, smoke, burning smell, or fire could endanger the driver, passengers, and other vehicles/passengers on the road. Even if the vehicle is used without intentionally engaging the seat heating system, the design and location of the rocker switches allow them to easily be engaged inadvertently.

There is a malfunction of the ignition interlock feature. The key can be removed while the transmission is in neutral or drive. The vehicle is at risk of rolling away while unattended.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.the contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealer for routine maintenance and they discovered that the front lower and upper engine mounts were torn.the failures occurred without warning.the vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 83,825 and current mileage was 89,000. Updated 10/16/08.*ljthe egr valve was faulty, which caused the engine light to illuminate. The battery had to be replaced. Updated 10/17/08.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the ignition interlock system would allow the driver to take the key out of the ignition when it was not in park. The vehicle rolled out of the driveway and almost struck a mercedes by about 4 inches.the vehicle landed in a hedge. No injuries were reported. Honda was contacted but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were 135,000.

The springs don't work right, the 4 wheel don't work at all, the car don't get up to speed like it's suppose to. Every time you make a sharp turnthe transmissionstarts messing up

2nd occurrence) during the month of october 2012, i was driving when the speedometer moved up and down really fast. The car felt like it was going to shut off. I had to put the car in park and press the gas pedal to keep in running. On my way to the mechanic the car accelerated really fast with a hard jerking motion. It cut off when i stopped at the street light. I turned the car back on and drove no more than fifteen feet when it started jerking again. The mechanic said i needed to replace the idle unit the valves. 3rd occurrence) during the month of march 2013, i was driving to vegas when the car started smoking i pulled over to let the car cool. I restarted the car and drove a few miles when it began to lose power and smoke and. I called aaa and got towed to a mechanic who told me i needed a new transmission. Which he quoted me $3,400 for a one year warranty.

The vehicle uncontrollably locked up and vered into the on coming lane of traffic

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an auto repair shop but was not diagnosed for the failure, or repaired. The contact was not aware of what caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Car keeps slipping like it's trying shift gears. Jerk like when speeding up. Now check engine light is on and does not pick up speed. Driving on d5. Is this a known issue? this is dangerous and can cause accidents.

Srslight is on, engine light is transmission is miss firing, fuel tank has a link. Transmission been fixon a recall before

Engine mounts failed.car has 71,000 miles, and the engine mounts failed.this has been a serious problem well documented across the internet by hundreds if not thousands of 01 mdx owners.i believe it to be a design flaw.

01 mdx motor mounts failure, these motor mounts have been replaced twice on the car already and it currently has 105,000 miles and needs motor mounts replacing again.

My mdx stalled while i was driving in traffic. I had turned a corner at an intersection and the car just quit. Instrument panel lit up and i lost power steering etc.

2001 acura mdx with about 80,000 miles has cracked front engine block and bad side engine block.dealer wants about $800.00 to fix.numerous complaints on the internet of the same problem.this is a design flaw that acura should fix.

Motor mounts going bad and breaking in mdx acura 01-current.replacing between 40k-80k. Intake system clogged (airport) gives bad gas mileage andto unclogg runs $200 at dealership.makes vibration and noise as if you are going over a speed bump heading towards a toll booth.

I have 2001 acura mdx with 80,000 miles. While the dealer was doing a routine oil change i was told the front and right side motor mount need to be replaced and cost about $700.00. I could not believe it!then i went online to research the issue,i found many people purchased this model car have the same issue (see this link:http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/acura-mdx/t54qbspdkrmccnv0a/p8).

2001 acura mdx vibrations lead to dealer/ manufacturer to focus on other components then the true issue. Were different finds stated to divert attention of know problems, to minimize financial and reputation?(lemon laws or poor design run around?) i'm not the primary driver and then when i drove it (my wife is the primary driver), same problems were felt and it only had dealer service since purchasing it in 2001.i investigated the noise myself on 7/15 /2007 and noticed the motor mounts were broke.how long were they like this, who knows, but a noticeable engine vibration is gone after i pointed this out to the dealer/ manufacturer and had it repaired.i asked for reimbursement for the motor mounts from the manufacturer since it is a documented problem.the manufacture, acura/ honda, would not reimburse due to the age and mileage.i paid for the replacement of the motor mounts.a vibration was occurring around 30 - 40 mph, dealers/ manufacturer state it was a egr valve not allowing transmission to shift smoothly, and it was due to running below grade gas.premium has and was ran, yet the transmission was 1.5 quarts low of transmission fluid, where is it going?is it heating up and pushing back through the egr valve in gaseous state and then cooling, clogging the intake, thence effecting the shifting?there is known issues with the transmissions and the dealer/ manufacturer should replace it and step up to the know issue.lastly, the sway bar has been lose and i've been told it was the a/c compressor to a strut.i got under the vehicle and was able to identify it the first time.is the manufacturer hiding know issues on these items stated above?

I was driving on the highway at 65 mph and all of a sudden the engine cut off.i lost engine power and the car began to slow down.after pulling to the side of the highway, i was not able to put the car in park nor remove the key.after several minutes, i was able to put the transmission in park and remove the key.the car started again after 10 minutes and drove it to the repair shop.the shop could not replicate the problem and said my car is fine.i know the car is not fine because it cut off on me while driving on the highway.this car is an accident trap waiting to happen.

-the contact stated that while driving the2001 acura mdx,on a clear dry day at50 mph the vehicle made a jerking motion and felt as if the vehicle went into park. The vehicle skidded on the road, it shifted into gear , and the rpms were high.the vehicle didn't lose power, but did lose acceleration.hewas able to put thefoot on the accelerator and proceed, but the vehicle would only go about 30-35 mph.the contact took the vehicle to the dealership, and they informed him that the transmission was ruined and needed to be replaced.the contact stated that this vehicle had 125,000 miles, and the replacement of the transmission totaled $4,100, the dealership replaced the transmission.the contacttookthe vehicle back to the dealership due to a noise from the engine. The dealership informed him that the engine mountsheared. The contact stated that this was going to cost him another $500.00.there wasrecallo4v176000 concerning the powertrain: automatic transmission, but this vehicle was not includede in therecall.the current mileage was 126,000.

While driving 10 mph the check engine light came on . As a result the vehicle started to ride roughly. Please provide additional information.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 20 mph, the engine stalled when turning a corner and the automatic transmission froze up in drive.the key in the ignition could not be turned and the steering was difficult to turn without the engine running.the problem was intermittent and occurred when the weather was cold.the service dealer had not inspected the vehicle but the manufacturer was notified.the consumer stated the vehicle would randomly stall when his foot was removed from the accelerator. Updated 01/1/07.

2001 acura mdx was driven under normal conditions.at 61,532 miles, i was told that two of the engine mounts were broken and needed to be replaced.i was told that if i continued to drive, the engine could possibly impact and damage the radiator.i had the parts replaced.i have searched the internet and found numerous similar complaints.

Motor mounts need replacement after only 40,000 miles.

Truck will become non-functional, not starting. Owner has to make several attempts before truck will actually start, or wait longer. Dealership is unable to detect cause unless it actually duplicates itself on the premises or shows on the computer.

While driving, vehicle shuts down. The consumer says when foot is off the accelerator the engine shuts down also, loses all power, lights come on dashboard and power steering is lost.

Consumer was going 45mph on 3 lane highway andvehicle lost all power. Alllights ondashboard lit up.consumer got toshoulder ofroad, started it up and drove it todealer. This wasfourth time happening, and dealer still couldn't tell consumer what's causedit to stall.

Purchased certified preowned mdx from dealer (formally driven by finance manager for a year. Car cut off while driving less than 30 days. Dealer could not replicate the problem. Car cut off again, took to a different dealer and they could not replicate the problem. Car began to hesitate and stutter daily at initial cranking. Dealer could not replicate the problem after 2-3 drop offs. Finally the car showed a egr valve (sensor) needed replacing. Car cut off again two additional times while driving. Dealer could not replicate. Car began to studder and hesitate gear changes. Dealer finally replicated and determined 1st 2nd and 3rd gear were bad. Dealer replacing transmission with rebuilt transmission. I have been without my car for many days to weeks at a time. I have not had my mdx since june 21, 2004. I have had a newborn baby and this car has cut off while driving leaveing my family extremel unsafe. The transmission is being replaced under the extended warranty i had to purchase. Acura has refused to buy the car back or give me fair market value on trade. They have also told me the problem needs to addressed with the dealership. Please help.*la

Air conditioner operated poorly.

Vehicle was serviced at a local dealer, who without owner's consent serviced air conditioner with a product that was standard practice, used to kill bactaria. Consumer later had an allergic reaction, causing tongue to swell/ dizziness/ headaches, and weakness. Name of product was frigi fresh, distributed by b.g. Produsts corporation.

Rear seat air conditioner stopped working.

Summary:the jack supplied with my 2001 acura mdx slipped while i was changing a tire in my driveway, causing the car to fall on my right arm as i was mounting the spare tire.i received a crush injury across my right elbow, which is useable now but still sore 2 months later. Whys:i almost did not report this because i was stupid and forgot to set the emergency brake.i am reporting this because my brother-in-law in dallas, who owns a 2001 accura mdx, had a similar thing happen to him (without injury) a few months earlier when his emergency brake was set; he had not mentioned it to me until he heard about my accident.i would love to be the last person that an mdx falls on.both my brother-in-law and i had decided to change our own tires as we had flats in our driveways (both of us have changed many flats in the past, although it had been several years since i had done so), were in a safe, level, and dry place, and had no need to wait an hour for roadside assistance.i think many people would make the same choice in that situation, or, more hazardously, along a roadside (where the road's crown makes the ground uneven, and where passing traffic will shake a car).my brother-in-law's 2001 mdx shifted (even with the emergency brake on) and bent the jack, but did not fall all the way off of it.he called roadside assistance.when the r.a. Man arrived to help, he looked at the jack and said that it was way too small for a car as heavy as an mdx.my jack also bent.although my emergency brake was off, the car did not roll or shift when my neighbor came over with a larger jack to re-raise my car and install the passenger tire for me. (at that point we didn't realize it was not set).i wasnegligent, but my brother-in-law was not; this jack may be dangerous when supporting this car.will you please follow up on this?

I have a 2001 acura mdx that i purchased new. In july, i noticed small drips of oil under the vehicle. Upon getting it examined at a local mechanic, i discovered that the gas tank had developed a leak along its seam! i contacted the dealership(acura of tempe) and they said this would not be covered under warranty. I also contacted my insurance company (ameriprise) and they said this would not be covered under comprehensive coverage and to them it appeared to be a manufacturing defect.since the acura dealership had quoted me a cost of repair that was more than 30% higher than my auto shop, i chose to go with the latter.i feel this defect is a manufacturing defect, and could have been a very serious hazard if left untreated. Acura should have paid for this repair.i would appreciate your suggestions / feedback: do you know of other complaints along the same lines?note: i have 2 pictures of the gas tank showing the leaks that i can send you if you like.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The vehicle was parked in the residence garage and a strong odor of fuel was present. He also observed a fuel leak near the fuel tank. There were no prior warnings. An independent mechanic on two occasions stated that the failure was contributed to the fuel tank filler hose and that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact stated that the failure could cause a fire. The failure and current mileages were166,000.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel from the fuel tank. The contact was concerned the failure could cause a fire. The failure mileage was 78,659.

The vehicle uncontrollably locked up and vered into the on coming lane of traffic

Has evapfueltank detection

Bad gas smell in the cabin, happens everyday. Was told this is a very common occurrence in this car and a factory defect. I know there is a recall for the 05 mdx gas tank, it needs to apply for the 01 as well.

A damage to the driver-side door lock renders the whole locking (and unlocking) mechanism unusable. My driver-side door handle got scraped in locked position, while the car was being driven. Due to the damage to the driver side lock, it could not be operated electrically or manually. On parking the car i managed to get out the passenger side door but on closing the same door, the electrical system locked the door automatically. Since none of the other doors, including the one on the trunk, has a mechanical lock, the car cannot now be unlocked. There is now no way of getting into the car, without which the damaged door cannot be repaired.acura motors did not have a way out of the situation.

We purchased a 2001 acura mdx, used, for our 18 year old son.within 9 months, it began shifting poorly. Of course, with a young driver, he didn't know what was going on. Just by happenstance, we were taking it around for tires, oil change, etc. They pulled the tranny dipstick and said 'you're tranny's shot'. We had it towed back to the car lot service department, where they confirmed. Then, luckily, we were at just under 122,000 miles, which is where my extended warranty would have expired! it was replaced under that warranty, with my only having to come out of pocket just over $700.00, which i paid for betterment b/c i elected to get a brand new transmission, rather than a used one with almost as many miles on it as the original! i have looked and asked around and i am not able to confirm that there is, indeed, a recall on the tranny itself, just on the converter, which was not replaced in my circumstance. But, if someone knows different or learns about a recall later, please post!

Car keeps slipping like it's trying shift gears. Jerk like when speeding up. Now check engine light is on and does not pick up speed. Driving on d5. Is this a known issue? this is dangerous and can cause accidents.

Two issues with drive-train: first is a grind/rumble (like driving over a highway rumble strip) felt at low speeds (20-30 mph) with light acceleration. Shakes vehicle slightly. Can be reproduced. Vehicle can accelerate through the grinding/rumbling by further depressing accelerator and sometimes accelerates through the 20-30 mph range without noticeable grinding/rumbling. If, however, the vehicle is accelerating slowly and it does begin to grind/rumble, maintaining a consistent speed/rpm level (without drastic change in road surface or grade that would cause computer to change gear due to increased/decreased friction) the driver can create a continued duration of the grinding/rumbling until releasing of further depressing the accelerator to change out of that gear/rpm/speed/load combination which results in the grinding/rumbling described above.the second issue is a whirring/lugging during highway speed cruising on level surface with d5 automatic transmission gear engaged. Once the vehicle accelerates above around 45 mph, more consistently at speeds above 50 mph, on level terrain at consistent speed via accelerator or cruise-controlled, the vehicle will frequently increase by approximately 200-300 rpm and begin to make a whirring sound which lasts a few seconds then the rpm return to previous speed and the whirring subsides. A few seconds later the same thing occurs and this cycle continues throughout the duration of the maintained speed. The phenomenon is more noticeable with cruise-control as the speed and rpms likely have more computer regulation but it is also noticeable without cruise-control engaged. My concern is that in either situation the transmission internals could be worn in a manner not intended by manufacturer resulting in overheating or breaking of internal components that could cause a sudden and violent reaction of the speeding vehicle.

There is a malfunction of the ignition interlock feature. The key can be removed while the transmission is in neutral or drive. The vehicle is at risk of rolling away while unattended.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 164,000.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to hesitate. Also, while driving over 60 mph, the vehicle seized. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and restart the ignition, but the failure continued. Also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 192,000. *lnconsumer stated the following transmission codes are generated from the diagnosis toolp0700 - a/t system malfunctionp1740 - 4th pressure switch failurep1750 - clutch pressure failure

Vibration/shudder/grinding between 20-50 mph while accelerating. It happens every time for the past 5 moths when i accelerate from a dead stop.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the transmission suddenly shook violently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any further assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 93,000. The vin number was not available.

Automatic transmission- i bought my 2001 acura mdx in march 2019 it has ran fine until august 2019. It started making a loud clanking noise on and off when i took out of reverse, then at about 40-50 mph it starts having a vibration then goes away at other speeds. About a week ago while driving straight down the interstate at 65 mph with my cruise control set my rpm went up to 5000 so i tapped on break which made it go back down to normal, so i went to accelerate back up to speed and nothing happened other then it acting as though i was driving in neutral and then it was fine again for a split second so i turned my hazards on and slowed down more and pulled off into gas station to see what was going on and noticed atf all over the place the ground was covered. I had to get trailer to get it home, once i did i pulled out my chilton's handbook for it to see if could figure out the issue was and it shows that the 2001 has a recall on the automatic transmission, but when i get online it only shows the recall if i put in 2001 acura mdx it doesn't show it with my vin. Number. Can i still get this recall issue fixed and if so how do i get it fixed? i called my local acura dealer and they told me to get on here to get more information.

Transmission slipping, jerking forward and failing to shift gears.

We have a 2001 acura mdx which has developed a "speed bump" shudder at around 30 mph. The acura dealer didn't mention that this is a recurring problem as i found out at this link --- http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx?14@@.f1775eb/461 --- there are many, many people on this forum discussing this same problem. It appears that this problem is widespread and common. Acura's way of fixing the issue was to give us 15% off of a new transmission which is not a very friendly way of fixing a problem which has apparently been in the car's dna since it was built. We then got a software update letter in november of this year from acura for this same problem for a 2005 mdx which we no longer own. One of the key lines in the letter is "this (fix) can help prevent your transmission from being damaged." wow --- will it take a failed transmission and the death of a family as with the toyota debacle to get them to act responsibly and do a voluntary recall on all mdxs??!!

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the transmission shuttered while driving 40 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the torque converter or the entire transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure had since recurred whenever the vehicle was driven at 40 mph. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the vehicle would not move in either forward or backwards. The gears were stuck in neutral and the contact heard a grinding sound when he tried to move the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer had not been contacted. The contact suspected the issue was with the transmission. The vehicle was not drivable and at the contacts residence for a year. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Its showing all the symptoms of the recall that indicates the transmission needs replaced and radiator as well and has obvious signs of over heating and gear dameges. Engine light and flashing d5 with all codes from powertrain.*dt

Our 2001 acura mdx (with approx. 25000 miles) stops running abruptly when driving for no apparrent reason, resulting in engine shut down, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and all systems.this vehicle has been to the dealer for repair 2 times, and is being towed again today, april 10, 2004 for the 3rd time in one month.dealer repair service unable to determine cause on 1rst occasion march 12, 2004. Second occasion march26, 2004 resulted in a replacement of the *idle air contol valve and it's adjustment (*part # 16022-pba-ao3)this obviously did not fix the problem.we now fear for our lives to drive this vehicle.no matter what the third repair attempt outcome, we will get rid of this vehicle.

Own a 2001 acura mdx (since 105k miles) and i noticed on driving an intermittent - what almost sounded like gear grinding. Is that possibly shuttering.the sound comes and goes unpredictably but seems to occur most in the 42-50mph range - without any dramatic rpm changes. Normally during shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, sometimes sound like loud drum brake vibration or shaking, scary and at 150,000 mile when i took it for tradein at buerkley acura mpls mn they admitted it has faulty tc but before that last 6-7 years i took it to white bear acura & so more dealers they completely denied it has any issue with tranny or tc, according to them the tech could not reproduce the noise/vibration, now they are saying just avoid driving in d4 to avoid the issue, im really felt like being cheated by fraud company with poor ethics!

I purchased my 2001 acura mdx in march 2019. Since purchase the car consistently makes a loud clunk when shifting the gear shifter into reverse. It also clunks consistently going from park to drive. There is hesitation in the cars shifting. At times i either have to speed up or let speed off for a transmission shift to occur. The car shudders horribly when braking at low or medium speeds. It feels unsafe and scary and only a matter of time before a complete wipe out occurs. Seeing this as a ongoing problem with this vehicle and yet california is not in the vehicle recalls seems ridiculous. These happen on city streets and highways daily while driving said vehicle.

Vehicle/transmission constantly jerksafter reading numerous forums of individuals that have spent thousands on replacements for recurring issue...this needs to be recalled and transmission needs to be replaced/repaired.

The vehicle uncontrollably locked up and vered into the on coming lane of traffic

Tranmission failure caused by plugged fluid cooler in radiator. Following occasional undiagnosed high transmission temperature fluid warnings when towing a trailer, car shifted unexpectedly into 2nd gear at highway speeds. Just prior, shifting had become slightly erratic, including sharp engagement above idle when pulling away. Erratic behavior was noticeable, but not disconcerting. Once the transmission started shifting into 2nd gear at highway speeds, the vehicle was slowed, and pulled off the highway briefly to cool. Upon restarting, erratic shifting continued. Trip completed by holding car in 2nd gear. Vehicle operated normally next morning driving to shop.diagnosis was computer unable to determine what gear transmission was in.shop performed complete transmission overhaul. Car then operated normally - until trailer towing again attempted.trailer had been towed with indetical loading for some 6+ years without problems, including mountain passes in 3rd gear.now when towing transmission overheated without warning in cold weather, including over-temperature light, & transmission fluid spraying out, wetting the underside of the car & exhaust system, creating smoke cloud.repeated attempts to fix were unsuccessful until transmission shop finally found fluid cooler integral to the radiator plugged solid, allowing no fluid flow through that cooler or the factory-installed towing package cooler.warning!if you have an older acura that experiences transmission fluid overheating, radiator replacement is likely needed.it is likely that the overheating hastened the failure of the transmission.the severe deceleration of the vehicle when downshifting on its own into 2nd gear at highway speed could easily have resulted in a serious accident. Transmission problems are common with this model of vehicle. I am surprised that honda has not done something about it.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the vehicle violently lunged forward intermittently. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The vin provided was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

Transmission failure.

My 2001 mdx has been having this issue for over 2 years.it happens only sometimes but usually when accelerating from 2nd to 3rd gear.it makes a shuddering sound and then the rpms go up and it will not accelerate.you have to then stop or slow down to make it go in a lower gear.sometimes this will happen 2 to 4 times a drive and sometimes will go days without happening.mechanic thought it to be transmission issue and said drive it until it stops.however...after reading hundreds of complaints online...it appears that individuals have fixed the tranny or torque converter only to have the problem soon reappear.i am hesitant to replace tranny/trans as i have 163,000 miles on it and do not want to replace these items if they won't fix the problem.many, many complaints of the exact same thing all over the web.honda should be made to address this issue and see what the problem is!i am the original owner ...bought it new in 2000.have taken good care of it and performed scheduled maintenance.just want to know what the issue really is before i spend $3000 to $4000 dollars to fix it.other than this....love the vehicle!please look into this issue!!

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, the vehicle independently shifted into drive and rolled down a residential driveway. The rear bumper of the vehicle crashed into a tree. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

Takata recalli have a 2001 aura mdx and when i first got the vehicle w months ago like 2 weeks after i was on the freeway and the d 5 light started to flash the speedometer went all the way down and the rpm was high then the speedometer went back up it did it a couple of times but i was still going the same speed it jerked a little bit i pulled over tried to put in park but it was stuck so i pushed the shift unlock and i was able to put it in park then everything seemed fine but the check engine light stayed on now a month in a half later it would stall to go when i'm taking off the roads were blocked off so i attempted to do a u turn i pulled in someone's parking lot and tried to reverse out and couldn't it would just rev two guys helped me and pushed it out thank god i had my infant with me and older daughter i was able to go forward to make it back home but the whole way the car was revving loud and the rpm was high and when came to. A stop it would rev then jerk hard and go luckily i didn't crash into the car in front of me there should definitely be a recall on these considering seeing how many people have the same issue ita crazy and i had always thought acuras were very good running cars please fix this issue in overall i love the acura mdx and would have hoped it lasted me longer i hope it is addressed thank you

My mdx shakes while driving not specific to acceleration, but periodically it will shake severely for a few seconds and stop with no intervention from me.i do not slow down or stop when this hard shaking occurs--course it's normal for me but my passengers are startled and concerned.this mdx has bee doing this for years.dealer says i need a new transmission.other repair facilities have investigated and tried repairs that did not resolve the problem.this mdx also "growls"there is a loud sound that is heard while driving that ends with the vehicle nearly stalling out but i continue to press on the accelerator and it has so far not stalled.i brought this to the attention of the dealer also during the inspection for severe shaking and i was told i needed a new transmission.this was 4 years ago and i am still driving the vehicle with these concerns.since the original complaints of shaking and loud growling sounds i have had issues with the gear shifter.when i wanted to put the gear in drive it would not go.there was something preventing it from moving-locked maybe?i used the key release for the gear and put the car in neutral to start the engine and then into drive.this happens sporadically maybe a couple times a year so far.i have not had this issue investigated.i started to hear front end sounds almost immediately after the recall work was performed by the dealership.since that dealership and i had a mutual disagreement that was distasteful enough to cause me not to return there i have tolerated the clunking sounds from my front end. Now thatparticular dealer is no longer in business (sold the franchise) i am bringing my vehicle back to the dealer for possible investigation of the front-end noise.

Srslight is on, engine light is transmission is miss firing, fuel tank has a link. Transmission been fixon a recall before

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving 45 to 50 mph, the front end of the vehicle jerked and the engine, maintenance required, vtm-4, and air bag indicators remained illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, restarted, and driven to the contact's residence. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 201,000.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the gears seized unexpectedly for a brief moment with a loud unusual noise. The failure occurred whenever accelerating from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the transmission would need to be replaced. In 2006, the vehicle had been repaired under nhtsa campaign id number 04v176000 (power train). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vtm warning indicator illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated when shifting. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 249,000.

I own 2001 acura mdx and my daughter is the primary driver. She stated that while driving down with her four month infantthe car began to jump in a jerking motion at 35 mph. The gear light started to blink repeatedly and the check engine light came on.while pulling off the road the vehicle was skipping beforecame to a complete stop trying to make it home , the vehicle slowly sped up and started to jerk and skip again and then started back into reverse.it was taken to a local repair shop and was told that the vehicle had a transmission failure and it was recalled the same problem. As the second owner of the vehicle, i was not aware of the recall so i did some research and found out that other owners are still having problem even with the recallso call to be fixed the defect problems.i called the dealer( provided vin) to verify my vehicle was taken in for the recall and was told it was taken in and "inspected" and not further information what else was done. The dealer gave me an over the phone estimate for repair cost of $5500. I requested a hard copy via email and they sent me an estimate for $6581.37 to replace the transmission. I called america honda co on several occasion to get more information about the recall and to find out what exactly done to the vehicle and all they are telling me that my vehicle was fixed during the recall and they have no information on what was fixed or done to the vehicle and that i was responsible for the repair cost. I told america honda that i was calling for recall information and they were more concern about who were responsible repair cost. During my research i learnthis incident with my vehicle is still a safetyissue and luckily no one was hurt and no fatality yet. This is my complaint aboutmy acura mdxstill dangerous even as older luxury vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The rpms rapidly increased. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

When driving the car will shift into neutral. The only way to accelerate is to manually shift the gear shift into neutral and then back to drive. This occurs frequently at stops. There was a recall for this issue in 2004. The acura dealership in fort worth, texas indicated that the recalled part was replaced, however, this issue has re-occurred or was not properly fixed in the first instance. This is likely due to a replacement of the same defective transmission part. I have requested the acura dealership to look at the transmission as it relates to the recall (recall number 04v17600). Although they are aware that this is the issue, they refuse to redress the problem. They state that i will need to pay for an entire new transmission. This is an issue with the acura components and not a problem caused by the driver. Acura should be required to fix the issue. They are making the road unsafe for drivers at the driver's expense.

Rpm's run high and then sudden engine cut off; in addition, a shudder or vibration develops while driving at speeds between 35 and 40 mph. Acura stateda failed automatic transmission torque converter. It is recommend replacing the torque converter and installing an updated powertrain control module (pcm) to correct this concern. There are no check engine lights or codes at this time. Transmission was replaced at 140,000 previously.

I have a 2001 acura mdx and i experienced some safety issue on highway a few weeks ago. The transmission had skip/slip problem while i was driving uphill on i-680. All of a sudden, the car transmission couldn't switch gear and caused me almost crashed into another car. I did some research on the internet and found that all acura mdx 2001-2003 have transmission problem even they did recall. But, they didn't make the transmission functioning well after normal use.i contacted acura on12/2/2010 and they told me that they are not liable to this situation. They don't care about public safety. Please invest this problems seriously. I hope that you can order acura to be responsible for this transmission defect and eventually save people's lives from potential accidents on the highway.

Problems with transmission on 2001 acura mdx.*mrthe consumer received recall 04v176000 referenced heat build.the remedy was for the dealer to inspect the transmission to identify gears that may have already experienced discoloration due to overheating. If discoloration exists, the transmission will be replaced.the consumer feels human error may be a factor in the inspection.the consumer finds the remedy unacceptable and request a new transmission.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 mph down a hill, all four wheels locked up, and the vehicle skidded to a stop.it was unable to be maneuvered off the road and was towed to the dealer.a nhtsa recall, #04v176000 concerning, the automatic transmission was performed on the vehicle, however the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.updated 11/2/2006 - the manufacturer decided to repair the vehicle.the vehicle is running fine now.

Consumerreceivedrecall 04v176000 notice concerningtransmission failure, which was taken care off.currently, when shiftinggears vehicle shook , the gears seemed to strain . Manufacturer was not contacted.

Because the original transmission has been worked on and has aftermarket parts, acura is denying the vehicle to qualify for a recall on the transmission. Provide further details. *la

I was driving in a center lane about 45 mph in my 2001 acura mdx when the front wheels locked up and the car went into a skid and came to a complete stop.within seconds, the lady behind me ran into me causing damage to the front of her vehicle and the rear of my car.neither of our airbags went off.the other women said her knee was hurting, but she did not request any medical attention at the scene of the accident. There were no other injuries. There was no warning, no strange noises, no jerky actions - the front wheels just stopped.the car was taken to the local honda dealer and acura was contacted.the transmission had broken and acura arranged to have the vehicle transported to the closest dealership which was oklahoma city. The dealership replaced the transmission (and the front wheels after i inquired about a flat spot because of the skid) and transported the vehicle back to amarillo to have the body work done.acura has not assumed any responsibility for the damage done by the accident.they were good about assisting in the replacement of the transmission and tires.they have also agreed to pay for a rental vehicle while my car was out of commission.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.while driving 40 mph, the contact heard a loud banging noise and the vehicle failed to shift gears.the dealer stated that the transmission is defective and should be replaced.the dealer did not make the replacement because the contact wanted to consult with nhtsa.the current mileage is 98,225 and failure mileage was 98,125.

Have been hearing a noise in the drive train for quite sometime.also hear a thumping noise when 4 wheel drive is engaged and turn sharply.reading different blogs this seems to be a very common problem with the acura mdx, but acura does not have a recall.

Dt*: the contact stated the transmission was slipping.the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.a nhtsa recall, # 04v176000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the power train: automatic transmission however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership did not offer a second repair under the recall.

2001 acura mdx transmission locked up at high speed.if this had been on anything other than a dry road we could have lost control of the vehicle.

2001 mdx transmission failed and was replaced with rebuilt transmission by dealer.this was after 4 visits over 9 months complaining about a shudder between 40 - 45 mph.another repair shop (non-dealer) had diagnosed a faulty transmission on the first visit.transmission fluid was burnt.dealer refused to accept that diagnosis and replaced egr valve (had already been replaced once), 4th gear pressure switch, and one time claimed not to be able to reproduce the problem.dealer denied knowledge of any history of transmission failures in this model, despite many documented cases which i discovered after the transmission failed.in retrospect, the car was obviously dangerous to drive the entire period from the first occurrence till the replacement.acura cs has refused any sort of good will reimbursement, partial or otherwise, due to the fact that all service was not exclusively done at a dealer.honda/acura is stone walling the public about these transmission problems, and a dangerous and defective product remains on the market for each consumer to discover for him/herself.it is only good luck that none of my family was killed or injured, and it is just a matter of time before some unsuspecting person is.please investigate and force honda/acura to do the right thing and recall these transmissions and replace them at their cost.

Am a second owner of 2001 acura mdx with 84,000 miles, owned since approx 35000 miles.while driving home the automatic transmission began to slip, causing higher than normal engine speed while up shifting.down shifting while slowing to a stop caused sudden and severe engine braking and very rough shifting.this could have easily resulted in an accident.no prior issues noticed, and vehicle had major scheduled service in the past.took to local independent service and was informed transmission was a total loss requiring replacement.contacted acura client services, and took to dealer who will only cover 25% of repair.my cost would be nearly $4000. This transmission had a service recall in 2004, but repair doesn't appear to be a good one. Transmission design appears to be defective.

I have a 2001 acura mdx, last year it began not shifting into 2nd gear and i couldn't go over 20-25 mph.i contacted my local acura dealership and they said i was out of warranty and they couldn't do anything.after insisting, they had me bring it in for them to look at it and they said it was my torque converter.i had another mechanic test it and he couldn't find anything and suggested it was my transmission.acura wanted to charge be $3-4,000 to repair.didn't have that kind of money for a car repair that should have happened on a car i spent $40,000 on.now again, it is doing it.there are thousands of complaints and i cannot believe someone is not making them correct this problem.please help.

'recall campaign'issued for 2001 acura mdx transmission failure. The dealer informed the consumer his vehicle did not exhibitthe heat discoloration of the second gear when it was inspected on august 23, 2004, so the dealer installed the a/t oil jet kit instead of replacing the transmission. On feb 25, 2005 8,000 miles after the oil jet kit was installed, the transmission failed while the consumer was driving. The specific component of the transmission which was affected by the safety recall was the component that failed. Recall #04v176000.

Purchased 2001 acura in 2007 with 90k miles, right after purchase wife began to notice a "flutter" sound from the front of the vehicle. It sounded like you drove over very small speed bumps. After 2 different trips to 2 different dealers they reported they never heard anything. Gradually the sound became more and more pronounced to the extent i was worried that car would lock-up while driving as i have heard/read other have done resulting in a crash. I took again to the dealer recently and they reported the problem now as a common technical service bulletin. The tsb and dealer stated i need to replace the torque converter and pcm. The pcm or ecu is the computer module that controls the whole engine. If the torque converter failed or wore out, why does their tsb and acura service recommend replace the pcm/ecu? could it be pcm/ecu is the root of all of these transmission problems and caused the torque converter to fail? $2600 after fighting for reduced parts and labor costs. Great car, bad very bad transmission. I won't be buying another honda product.

While driving at approximately 65mph, i attempted to pass another vehicle to my right transmission first appeared to downshift from 5th to 4th and the car accellerated normally, but suddenly the engine rpm increased dramtically, the car suddenly started deaccelerating and fishtailed widely.it side swiped the center divier of the freeway, damaging the left side.it appears that the transmission suddenly downshifted to a much lower than normal gear (likely 2nd) and the engine rpm that went over redline, causing the engine govenor to shut down the engine and the lower gear to provide excessive engine breaking, causing the loss of control.

While driving, the car started shaking and shuddering.the dealer kept my car for 10 days and put in a new transmision.i got the car back and it was still shaking and shuddering.they want to put in another transmission.it feels very unsafe to drive!

Driver is able to remove keys to car while car is in drive and engine is off.

Beginning in the summer of 2009, i heard engine noises while driving around 35-45 mph that sounded like i was driving over the rumble strips at the side of the road.over the months the sounds began to get louder and we took it in to carx, but they couldn't figure out what caused the noise.on 3-29-10 we took my 2001 mdx to acura.the mechanic asked me to drive it at 28 mph so that it was around 1500 rpms.it made the noise numerous times for him and he knew exactly what was wrong.he said it was the torque converter and it would need to be replaced.i've had my 2001 mdx for 3 yrs and it's not under warranty so we replaced the torque converter to a tune of $2,400.i'm not happy about that especially after seeing so many torque converters and transmission problems on this website and other complaint websites.there needs to be a recall and it needs to be corrected.i won't be buying an acura or honda ever again.

When the car nears 45 mph, the transmission starts slipping.the car starts jerking and almost stops.fortunately, i was not making a left turn or merging into traffic when it first occurred.i've been told that others have had complete lockups at 55 mph.i'm wondering if any accidents have occurred as a result of this problem.fortunately, i did not become a fatality.i was very nervous about driving to the repair shop.the transmission is being replaced.

My vehicle is an acura mdx 20011) driving on road ~35 mph transmission slipped into park and the car come to a halt, almost rear-ended by car behind us. Held up traffic for several minutes.2) transmission slips between 3rd and 4th gear into neutral or park when going ~30-40 mph3) took it to acura dealership and contacted acura customer service. Acura customer service declined my claim although the car only has 58k miles on it. Acuramdx.org referred me to this site where hundreds of customers have the same problem and for most acura corp. Replaces the transmission.this is a defective product that should be recalled and it is putting the life of hundreds of owners and the public in danger.

I am writing to nhtsa to report a transmission lockup incidence on the highway of my 2001 acura mdx suv. On 1/23/2009, while i was driving at the highway at 60 mph, the car has abruptly stopped to low 30 mph and almost caused a catastrophic accident to my family. The car didn't have any warning light on the dashboard console prior to the failure. The car has 148,000 miles and it's in a good mechanical standing (with regular interval maintenance).since then, i have done some research and found that this vehicle is known to produce such symptom. It's clear that the vehicle transmission has design issue at its beginning, and at high mileage, it might exacerbate more severely. Should nhtsa regulate acura to concern more for the safety of its customers? action that acura can help could be as issues new errata bulletins or courteous accident preventive measurement to make its older(high mileage) car safe.i have tried to contact to acura but didn't think it has any use. For one thing that acura factory won't make its customer safe is to collect actual older high mileage failure transmission and investigate for preventive safety measurement. Acura showed no interest despite my effort in talking to them. I have driven cars with failure transmission, but have not experience one that locks up at high speed in highway. This type of failure symptom is totally not acceptable. Surprisingly, i was able to find report of many mdx transmission lockup cases on web. Should there be law to prevent high mileage unsafe mdx go ride on highway unless some safety inspection has been performed. And, this is for the safety of others.i am currently having the transmission replaced at my own expense.

Started having issues with my 2001 acura mdx about a year ago, i took it to my local acura dealer and explained to them the problems i was noticing with the transmission. They checked it out and said everything was fine, well apparently it wasn't because now i need a whole new transmission. This has been a recurring problem with these vehicles and alot of owners have been compensated in one fashion or another according to different threads i have read online. I called acura today and pleaded my case but they essentially told me to "suck it up" (easy for them to say, a $4,500 repair) they did tell me that the case manager would review the case and get back to me but i shouldn't expect any compensation from acura.

I have a 2001 acura mdx and in recent days have experienced a fluttering noise coming from the engine compartment at speeds around 30 mph with hesitation in acceleration. The problem has been diagnosed as a bad torque converter. I have done much research and have learned that this problem is alarmingly common and potentially life-threatening. No recalls have been implemented though the risks are severe and the high percentage of incidents certainly qualifies for a recall. Not much investigation is needed to determine that action should and must be taken for the safety of the consumer and for the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Transmission failure.the automatic transmission failed without warning at 87,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving 20 to 30 mph and attempting to shifts gears they failed to shift. There was a thrust and then the gear shifted very hard into the next gear. This failure occured intermittently. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. There is also a recall for the transmission. The failure mileage was 135,000.

The 2001 acura mdx at approx.110,000 began a growling noise at 30-35 mph and in 5th gear at 1200-1500 rpm. Vehicle test driven by lindsay acura in columbus, ohio. Rep. Advised the torque converter was starting to go bad and it was not a safety issue and it could continue to be driven without problems. Repair estimate was $2100.

My 2001 acura mdx transmission and computer board needs to be replaced at 65,000 miles as well as two engine mounts. The vehicle has a recall report on the transmission and i thought they fixed it. The dealer will not explain to me what work was done for the repair. I wanted to know if they followed honda's procedure to see if it was damaged.

Recall regarding transmission on 2001 acura mdx. *mr the consumer had problems with the forward and second gear.the consumer was rejected the recall coverage because the invoice stated the vehicle only had reverse problems and the recall was specifically for 2nd gear problems..recall#04v176000. *sc

Hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear in transmission.at a later time the transmission slipped in these two gears causing no acceleration up shifting and sudden severe (lock up) down shifts.

I had just picked up our acura mdx that morning after getting a maintenance check-up completed. Later that day after picking up my son the check engine light turned on and for some reason the light that illuminates around the gear the car is drivingin was blinking. It seemed like the car was going haywire. After all that, the car suddenly starts to surge and is having a difficult time accelerating. I called the dealership and was told to bring it over immediatly. Each time the car was at a stop the car would not accelerate properly even if i had pushed down on the gas pedal all the way. The car barely made it half way up the drive way and i ended up just leaving it right there. The mdx has cut-off while driving about 5-8 mph, about 4-5 times now.the mdx has had a history of stalling and all indicator lights turning on while driving. Before the transmission failed, the mdx has had the egr valve replaced due to another stall after the engine was running for sometime already.the mdx did have a jet kit installed at 76,847 miles, but after 16,248 miles the transmission failed and replaced and i got billed for it.i believe that the transmission should have been replaced in addition to the jet kit and should be covered by acura since they put out a defective transmission.

Transmission would repeatedly rev as if in neutral gear while driving in 4th or 5th gear at or above 30-50 mph.luckily no accidents/injuries.had complained to dealer twice previously about a burning smell coming from the transmission but no problems found and car was still drivable at that time.failure occurred at around 88,000 miles.entire transmission needed to be replaced.seems to be a problem common with other acura mdx 2001-2002 model years once the car is above 75,000 miles but acura does not acknowledge it.

The transmission will not work properly.the car has 77k miles and had one transmission replaced approx. 30k miles ago.first the dealer said it was a loose wire and now says the transmission computer is broken.

Driving at 70 mph my 2001 acura mdx shifted hard to, i guess, 2nd gear, red lining the engine and causing control problems. I was able to swerve to right to prevent accident. The car is now down shifting randomly. It is down for a $3000 repair. Online, there are others that are experiencing similar problems. Radley acura in va tells me the problem is common. This will kill someone soon. Please look into it and institute a safety recall of the transmission! *nlm

I am having transmission problem with my 2001 acura mdx. They issued a safety recall. But, i have never been notified even i sent my car for service at acura dealership. The way acura handled this safety recall was not acceptable. I was notified by aamco that i should have been told. Can you help me this issue? how can i claim the damage from acura?

I own an acura 2001 mdx with a slipping transmission. Authorized repair shop says it will cost $3,400.00 to replace (fix)

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact was attempting to accelerate from a complete stop yet the vehicle begin to jerk violently. The vehicle resumed normal operation but within two miles, the vehicle began thrusting and jerking again. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was informed that the transmission had failed and would need to be rebuilt. The contact located a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 04v176000 -power train: automatic transmission) but was advised by the manufacturer that they would not assist if the vehicle was not serviced by an authorized dealer. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 154,000.

Faulty torque converter.car shudders while driving.it occurs every time i move at a constant speed, typically anywhere between 20-50 .

Less than 100 yards from where my wife started our 2001 acura mdx while making a left turn and accelerating the vehicle made a loud clunk and slid in the slush to the right. The vehicle was still running but it would not move. Would not allow us to shift into reverse or park. In neutral the vehicle would not move either. There has been a transmission recall but acura told me i would need to take it to an acura dealership to research the problem. We live 5-6driving hours from the nearest acura dealership. It is not logical to try and get it there. Our local honda dealership is currently installing a rebuilt transmission should be done today. Are honda and acura not one and the same corporation? i'm looking for some assistance with this.it was a safety recall and quite an expensive repair. Thank god my wife wasn't going any faster. We are the original owners of the vehicle. Thank you for any help you can give us!!

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.while driving 35 mph, the transmission failed.the engine accelerated, but the vehicle moved slowly and jerked before shifting into the next gear.through online research, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission); however, the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the recall.the current and failure mileages were 88,000. *updated 10/20/08 the consumer stated 5 months after paying for a transmission, the problem has returned. The consumer stated at times the transmission will not go into gear. Updated 10/21/08.

I purchased a '01 acura mdx as a pre-owned vehicle on october 23, 2003.the car ran great except for the occasional recall.the first recall was done at 35,000 miles for the front springs and then at 39,000 miles for the transmission overheating issue.on march 17,2006 i was traveling down the highway when i completely lost all power to my vehicle and have to swerve off the road to avoid getting hit.i was quite scared.after pulling off to the side of the road i got out of my vehicle to see if there was anything wrong externally and there wasn't, but i noticed that the check engine light had come on.i immediately brought it into my dealer and had then check the car over.they stated that the check engine light indicated a total transmission failure.they told me that this type of thing was common in these cars and that the recall was supposed to fix the issue.apparently it hasn't.at 77,000 miles my transmission failed and acura wants nothing to do with it.their headquarters have stated that the two problems, the recall and my transmission issue are unrelated.after doing a consider amount of research on the internet i've noticed these cars are known for transmission issues and that a total transmission failure can result because the recall was not done properly or because the recall didn't catch the problem in early enough.my problem is that the car was driven 40,000 miles before the recall was done and during that time some damage had to have been done to the transmission to warrant this transmission.my question to you is, where do i go from here??acura wants nothing to do with the car because they know it is a major safety defect in there vehicles.in the least they could have provided me with a rebuilt transmission, but they denied even that request.they should be stopped!!

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.the vehicle hesitates when attempting to accelerate. Also at speeds above 40 mph the vehicle will shimmy. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the technician stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced at an expense of $2300.00. No repairs were made. However, five years prior the torque converter was replaced. The failure mileage was 23,000. The current mileage was 127,000.

I purchased the 2001 acura mdx on 3/29/05 for $24,000.00 w/aprox.57,000 miles.the 1st incident was in 11/23/07 with 90,000 miles i felt vibration and metal grinding sound and the vehicle hesitated for a second the dealer stated the torque converter needed to be replaced,it was changed and it was still under warrenty.the 2nd incident was the same as the first except i was entering the highway, it was on 5/12/08 and the vehicle had 93,000 miles and the dealer stated once again the torque converter needed to be replaced,it was replaced and still under warrenty.the 3rd incident is the same as the other two with much louder squealing.now 6/25/09 with 106,000 miles the dealer states again the torque converter needed to be replaced only this time i am not under warrenty.the dealer sales person and technician recommended that the transmission be replaced since this was the third time.i feel that this should have been fixed correctly the first time instead of putting band aids on it.spoke directly with acura and they swear that one part has nothing to do with the other.i beg to differ and told them that i knew alot about cars and the automatic transmission will fail if the torque converter fails.they want to put another torque converter at my expense, this is not right and is a huge hazard to me and my family that includes 2 small children. I did a quick search online and found many people with the same issues on there 2001 acura mdx. Please help me, no one else seems to think this is defective product and a huge safety risk.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.while driving 25 mph, the contact was unable to drive at normal speeds when the rpms were above 3000.he is also unable to place the vehicle in reverse.the acura representative stated that they inspected the vehicle per recall number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission) and repairs were made with the previous owner.the dealer also stated that they installed an oil cooler to avoid build up while in second gear.the manufacturer stated that the owner would be responsible for the repairs.the current mileage is 105,000 and failure mileage was 97,000.

2001 acura mdx transmission failure. Driving on the freeway at 60 mph the car almost stalled before getting in proper gear (automatic transmission??). No accident. But looking at several wed sites on the topic, i realized that i was not the only one in the same situation. I would consider that the transmission should not be a safety hazard after only 67k miles on the car. What are you waiting for to take action? a death?

The consumer received a recall(04v17600) regarding thetransmission.the dealership refused to fix the recall. The mechanic informed the consumer that the part whichwas defective was not covered by the recall notice.

Premature transmission failure on 2001 acura mdx

The vehicle would shake and rattle between 1500-2000 rpm's.the dealer was unable and unwilling to correct the problem.the hesitation in the gears prevents the vehicle from performing maneuvers which could prevent or even cause accidents.*tc

While driving approximately, 60 mph the vehicle jerked hard back and forth.the consumer avoided accidents by pulling over to the shoulder of the highway.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and it was determined that the transmission's second gear failed.recall campaign#04v176000 was performed prior at 60k miles. *sc

Vehicle was having trouble with the transmission making the vehicle difficult to change from one gear to another.transmission was replaced with another brand new transmission, and it once again failed completely.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission). Shortly after repairs, the vehicle began to stall sporadically with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that the transmission would need to be replaced a second time. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance stating that the vehicle was repaired once under the recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.

Consumer received recall notice 04v176000 concerning automatic transmission.remedy failed.

I have a 2001 acura mdx i purchased new in 2001.since my purchase i have just replaced the 5th transmission.my mdx use has been 90% highway driving with no trailer towing.per blogs on the internet many other 2001 mdxs have had similar problems, but acura (honda) seems to ignore this issue.also motor mounts failed at about 60k miles. Another issue acura seems to ignore.obviously these are vehicle (engineering) design issues.acura should have a recall on all the vehicles of the 2001-2002 vehicles to correct these problems. I have all the services done per the manual on this vehicle at david mcdavid acura.the vehicle has never been abused.

Safety recall on 2001 acura mdx customer states that the transmission problem started in 07 and feels like acura should pay for it because it falls under the recall from 04**ccthe consumer stated when the recall was first issued, he took the vehicle to the dealer who determined that the transmission was not in serious enough condition to warrant replacement, but instead an oil kit was installed. On may 25, 2007 the transmission developed a problem with shifting. The vehicle would rev more off a start and switch hard into second gear, making pulling in front of a vehicle hard. The dealer installed a transmission at an estimated cost of $3000.

2001 acura mdx with recalls and service bulletins for transmission and torque converters. Consumers vin was not included in the recall but has the defect. The dealer and manufacturer refuse to help with her problem.

01' acura transmission slipping, sputtering and locking up. 113,000 miles. Locked up once on interstate with me and my son in the car, and luckily we weren't in the way of anyone or we could have been hit. Found several, several complaints on the internet with people having the same issue. Very dangerous!!

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving approximately 20 mph going up a hill the transmission would lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and he advised her that he could not duplicated the failure.she stated that a local mechanic looked at the vehicle at least three times and was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to another local mechanic and she was advised that a diagnostic test would cost $700. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle had not been driven since october 2010. The vehicle was pre-owned. The contact referenced recall 04v176000, power train:automatic transmission and stated that the recall was performed per acura's website. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 115,000.

Dear nhtsa: we have had our 2001 acura mdx in (apple acura in york, pa) for the recall involving the automatic transmission.we knew something was wrong before the recall notice because the mdx would hesitate and almost stall at low speed at gear changes. Our mdx is still under factory warranty (4 year- 50,000 miles).the recall (apple acura in york, pa) service included a test drive, inspection, and installation of a oil recirculation pump.this recall work was completed but the transmission hesitation has persisted. I have had this vehicle in three times to find the problem (apple acura in york, pa).the first they changed the transmission oil (my request) and did not find anything wrong.the second time was the recall service.the third they cleaned the egr valve and ports.the problem still persists.i feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.the problem only occurs at low speeds under light throttle response.this hesitation does not happen at half or full throttle. I was told by the service manager that this flaw may be part of the vehicle design that was fixed on the 2004 model year.i asked if our mdx transmission can be fixed like the 2004 design? he was not confident that he would have authorization to do this work.i just do not feel that the problem will be addressed. Should i go to another dealership?do they have to demonstrate that they fixed the problem under the recall? how do i formally put in a complaint?sincerely:joe stefko170 frank drive york,pa717-757-0588 (h)717-227-3280 (w)--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The contact owns a 2001 acura mds. The contact stated while driving 35 mph the transmission failed. The gears locked between second and third gear and began to shift as if something was popping in the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced at the contacts expense. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that he would be responsible for the repair cost since there were no recalls or warranty on that vehicle. The failure mileage was 102,350.

Noticed transmission slippage in 4/06 on my '01 acura mdx. Dealer not able to duplicate problem. Yesterday, 2/22/07 with 71000 miles, the transmission, will without warning, appear to suddenly down shift andengine will spike in rpm's as if thrown into neutral. This occurs while driving at 40-40 mpg and causing sudden lost of control due to the forward thrust of the down shift and loss of throttle control. Engine light comes on alongwith a flashing and d5 indicator light. Very dangerous transmission problem that needs to be addressed.

Dt: the contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving at 25 mph the transmission seized and caused other vehiclesto swerve to avoid the consumers vehicle.the vehicle was taken to an acura dealership and they confirm ed that the transmissionseized. The contact told the dealership to inspect the transmission to see what the repair should be, and an explanation as to why this happened. The dealership told him that they could not give an explanation as to why this happened. However, they could send the transmission to acura for inspection. The vehicle was regularly maintained, and had149,000 miles on it.the vehicle was traded to the dealership a couple of weeks ago for another vehicle, but the contactassumed that the transmission was replaced. Spokewith the service managerand he could not give an explanation, but mentioned that there was a recall in april or may2004 , and during a scheduled maintenance they did a diagnostic test.therefore, itdid not needrecall repairs. Also, there was a variable torque convertermanagement system, and in the owner's manual it explained, that if using the variable torque converter management system itcould cause rear differential damage. The contactfeltthat this was a safety issue. Transmission seized on august 16, 2005. The contactcontacted acura service hotline, and they agreed to pay 25% of the cost. Ak

My dealer serviced 2001 acura mdx has failing engine mounts, and failing transmission at 82,000 highway miles. The dealer (hinshaw acura, seattle) sold it to me, and 100 miles later the check engine and transmission light came on. This must be a defect, and needs to be corrected. I will not pay $6000 for a new transmission at 82k miles from a dealer serviced luxury car.

The2001 acura mdx started to have major transmission problems.seemedlike when i first start driving the transmission only went to secondgear and didn't go higher.if i pushed the gas pedalthe rpms went over 5000 at speeds of only 40 to 50 mph.sometimes,it felt that the car was in neutral, and when there was a shift in gear the car jumped as when skip ping a gear whiledriving avehicle with manual transmission.the whole experience feltlike when i drove a manual transmission car for the first time and didn't know how to work the shifts.

Dt:there was a recall on the consumers vehicle to have the transmission fixed.the next day, the consumer heard a low pinging noise, then 30 miles aftershe started to hear noise while driving on the freeway.the transmission locked up and put the consumer into askid of about 150 feet.no other vehicles were involved.

Transmission failure of 2001 acura mdx at 74k miles.many, many (hundreds) complaints on-line with same issues (mdx and sister vehicle the honda pilot). Dealership pretends there is no issue with these cars yet it is documented all over the place.we need a recall, this is terrible.we are out $3000 to fix it with a local transmission shop;acura "offered" to fix it for $3500.they also told us that since we didn't get it serviced at a dealership "we were looked badly upon" when making their "offer".we all want to sue them as this is supposed to be a quality vehicle and acura is not taking any responsibility.we cannot afford this. Also, some owners are on their 3rd transmission in these cars b/c it's the same faulty transmission that goes in.we don't feel safe nor do we feel like we can drive it much.we barely drive it at all now.this is well documented in acura forums for 2001-2004 models (not sure about later models) and hundreds of honda pilots as well.help us!!!!!

Vehicle began surging under light acceleration in traffic. When the vehicle was taken to dealership they could not replicate. When they checked the dash code they discovered transmission was shot. Transmission is being replaced.

I have a '01 acura mdx which i purchased used. I have had several warranty issues with this vehicle since then. Because i purchased it used (it was imported from canada which i did not know and i also did not know it voided any warranties that acura had on it) acura refused my plea to honor the transmission recall on this vehicle. I was on a acura forum and read where one acura customer transmission failed because of this recall. I have tried numerous times and have talked to numerous acura employees. They all told me to take a "hike". Can you help..i believe that if this is a recall and there is a defective part which could potentially cause death, they should fix it at no charge.

2001 acura mdx transmission slipping and banging. Torque converter surging in first and second gear. Bad design, transmission failing too soon. Only able to drain 3 quarts out at a time. Fluid gets dirty and old too soon between service dates.

I purchased my 2001 acura mdx new. . . I have been the only driver. . .around 100,000 miles i began to hear this gurgling noise coming from under the engine compartment. . . I took it to two acura dealers and one independent repair shop. . .all indicated that the torque converter was shot and that i had to replace the transmission at a cost of over $3,800 . . . Highway robbery . . . I have continued to drive the vehicle and besides the noise between 35 - 50 miles per hour, it continues to run good. . . I now have 127k+ on the vehicle and its still going. . . .i plan to replace the transmission soon. . . . i'm tired of the noise and the reduction in gas mileage. . .

-the contact noted that a noise was detected eminating from the vehicle whiletravelingat 30-40 mph he , always heard a low vibration. There wasrecall for this 04v17600) which he had repaired. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer , and they would not look orrepair the recall again without charge. The manufacture rstated that since he had the recall work done once theywere no longer obglated to repair the recall free of charge.

Close call trying to merge onto busy los angeles freeway in front of a freight truck when the transmission slipped into neutral for several seconds, until i let go of the accelerator and tried again. Had to slam on brakes and pull into emergency lane to avoid collision with truck.

I purchased my 2001 acura mdx in aug 2004 and the transmission recall had already been serviced per records on the acura owners website. Approximately 18 months ago i noticed the car sporadically behaving as if going over rumble strips on a road. I took it in for service however could not get the vehicle to replicate the event. In the fall of 07 again i took it to the same acura dealer and told them to check out the bizarre behavior. Again, to no avail. In feb 08 i took it in for the 120k mile service which included cleaning brakes, checking belts etc. I reminded them of the noise once again. They said the car was fine. Last week i took it in again after determining the rumble-strip noise was occurring between 25 & 35 mph. Initially i was told i needed a serpentine belt & when i rejected that notion, the diagnosis was that i needed a new transmission. I called corporate acura and spoke with 3 different people. The last representative read the report taken by the prior person and i had to correct my actual statements several times. When asked what action i wanted acura to take, i said that acura should absorb the cost since my car was involved in the transmission recall the "fix" was merely a "patch" as other cars had the same issue upon reaching the 100k mile + mark. My car has 125k. When corporate acura called me today, they said essentially they were not gong to bear the cost of any of the repairs that it was my responsibility. I have been a loyal acura owner to one dealer and was preparing to purchase yet another mdx. These cars cost a lot of money in the first place and there is no reason for them not to absorb the cost. In fact, their cost is way less than the consumer cost and they can write it off as customer good faith expense or something of the sort.

Acura mdx 2001 automatic transmission failure. Transmission seems to always get stuck in neutral while driving. Engine will rev very high until the transmission shifts gear. Each time the transmission fails the car is brought to sudden stop and then shifts gears then continues on moving. The transmission problem causes sudden stop when driving in both freeway and when go at lows speeds of 30 mph. The engine light warning lights up, the d5 gears starts to blink.

A loud banging knocking noise was coming from the front.consumer pulled over, and thenvehicle stalled. Consumer was unableto restart vehicle, andhad it towed to the dealer. Mechanic determined that the second gear drive shaft sheared off while shifting, and the transmission needed to be replaced.

My 2001 mdx transmission began hesitating when shifting (84.849 miles).i immediately parked the vehicle and then had it diagnosed by a local mechanic who followed the owners manual instructions and flushed the transmission.modis scan for codes, none in memory.transmission fluid was extremely black and full of small metal debris and fiber material.flushed several times with same results.called acura dealer to check warranties, etc. They advised that the ecu causes transmission failure and that it along with the transmission would need to be replaced, warranty expired.ecu are known to short out and will cause new transmission to burn up if not replaced.acura should have recalled the ecu long ago when they knew about the problem. The failure of this component could cause transmission failure resulting in a crash.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a routine oil change; however, three weeks after the oil was changed, there was an oil leak in the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the transmission housing could possibly be cracked and recommended replacement of the transmission. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000. The vin was unavailable.

Transmission failure on 2001 acura mdx-leading up to determining the actual problem, car's performance deteriorated over a two-year period. Dealer performing services on the car misdiagnosed car problems on several occasions.

2001 mdx shudders at 1500 rpm (like running over a speed strip)apparently a faulty torque converter (transmission).

I purchased my 2001 acura mdx new. I have been the only driver. Around 115,000 miles i began to hear this grinding/gurgling noise coming from under the engine compartment. I took it to the acura dealer and during the first visit they ignored the problem and instead suggested replacing engine mounts. After that expansive repair i was still able to hear the grinding noise between 25-30 mile speeds. I took the car back to the dealer and today i found out that isthe torque converter. I was told that it will cost me over $2000 . . . Highway robbery !!! this model had a recall on transmission in 2004 but the acura seems to be blind to all those claims about failing transmissions and potentially dangerous situations. What does it take to have a recall on all those torque converters? is it going to take someone to lose their life?

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.while driving 70 mph, the transmission locked up.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the transmission suffered internal failure.the contact researched his vehicle's make and model and found recall number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission).the manufacturer stated that the previous owner of the vehicle had the recall repaired at 108,000 miles.the vehicle is currently at the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 114,000.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving the vehicle, the contact noticed that the check engine light had appeared on the dashboard. The acura dealer informed him that the transmission needed to be replaced due to the torque converter. The vehicle has not been repaired and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 215,000.

Consumer states that the shift lever does not lock into place when the vehicle is in park. There was a child who was in the vehicle while the vehicle was turned off and the child was able to move the lever into reverse and the vehicle ran into a house before it came to a complete stop. Mr

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.ever since the vehicle was purchased, there has been an ongoing failure with the seat belt connector releasing on its own.the failure was previously repaired by a mechanic, but the failure has recurred.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 85,000.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx.while the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance, the dealer stated that the upper and lower engine mounts were torn and needed to be replaced.the contact inquired about a recall, but the dealer stated that were none.therefore, the contact had to pay $582.63 for the repairs.the failure mileage was 79,799 and current mileage was 80,200. Updated 09/10/08.*ljthe dealer also replaced a missing tongue stopper on the seat belt. Updated 09/12/08.

My 5 1/2 year old son was belted in the driver's side middle row seat of my acura mdx year 2001 which has 3 rows of seats. Next to his right shoulder is the shoulder strap of the middle seat which is connected to a mechanism in the seat and extends to the roof of the car. As it turns out, despite previous warnings, he was playing with that middle shoulder strap and inadvertantly it looped around his neck, retracted and began to hang and strangle him.he called out to me while i was driving in a crying, raspy voice.i immediately stopped the car and looked back. I am an emergency physician, and what i saw was my son being lifted off the seat, being held down by his seat while his head was being pulled away. His face was red and he could hardly breath and his breathing was getting more labored. I jumped in the back seat and tried to pull the shoulder strap down to give hime some slack, but it was locked. He must have pulled in out all the way prior to the seat belt retracting, and it was locked. I had to release his belt and hold him up with my hand. I could not place my finger between the belt and his neck because it was too tight, and there was no way to unwrap the belt. I looked down at the locking mechanism. There is a way of unlocking the middle seat belt and retracting it all the way into the roof for storage, in my panic i could ot identify it. I called outside to people in their cars parked at a stop light for a knife. No one had a knife. I went back and thought again and remembered that a key was required to unlactch this mechanism. I took my key out of the ignition, and found a small rectangular hole along the side of the buckle mechanism, placed my key into it and released the belt. I was able to then unwrap the belt from this neck and savehis life. If i hand not previously been aware of this mechanism, he would have hung/strangled to death. I look forward to your comments. It seems to me there should be an easier way of unlocking that belt.

Complaint received via e-mail. I would like to document what i believe is a safety hazard in my vehicle. The second row of passenger seats is split whereby the end seat folds down and slides forward for entry to the rear row of seats. We have a six month old baby who rides in a car seat which is attached to the center of the second row of seats. She rides in the car seat facing rear, and she can stick her arms out on either side. When went to exit the vehicle, our older son slid the second seat forward, and it hit her out stretched arm, bending it backwards. She screamed and we immediately removed her from the seat. She appeared to be fine, but i am concerned for the future. There would be nodanger to a passenger facing forward because the worse thing that could happen is the right arm would be bumped forward. However, with a rear facing baby, any impact from the forward sliding seat, can cause the arm to bend backward and break. *tc

Brakemaster cylinder malfunctioned. As a result, brakes failed.no impact reported.

I have a 2001 acura mdx.when driven through large puddles, the car loses power.there's no power steering or power breaks. This car is an suv, it shouldbe able to handle standing water (up to the curb).it occurred twice within a matter of minutes, going through two puddles.

Travelling on city street tire came off with my 2 year old son and 14 year old brother in-law with me in the car. Purchased vehicle from travis @ kts auto sales on 09/23/19 on 09/24/19 the car was considered unsafe and basically not driveable.. Prior to my purchase of the vehicle travis told me he had the vehicle 3 weeks and counting and had been commuting his son back and forth to school and told me for sure the vehicle ran good and drove good. Well it dont and hasnt since the day after i purchased it. The only thing he will and has offered or tried to do to make it rightis to trade it back for an old honda crv in possibly worse condition and way less in value than the vehicle i paid for, i have 3 children ( and travis knows i do) so i took the honda crv on a test drive anyways considering i have kids and really need a running and driving carand stopped bye my mechanic to take a quick look at it and he did and said absolutely not that he wouldn't not trade the original one we bought for the honda crv and said if it were him he wouldn't even pay scrap value for the crv it was rusted all the way around the entire car inderneath and around my mechanic said it was very unsafe that if we were to barely get hit or hit something it would crumble and fall apart and that this vehicle he was trying to give me to replace another unsafe vehicle would be even more dangerous than the 1st vehicle was. Also travis from kts lied when he said he had driven the car 3 weeks+ because i got to looking in to see how often vehicle was maintained and this and that found out he only had it 12 days befor selling the vehicle to me (that's not even 2 weeks!!)

Suspension clunk. All speeds. Traveling straight or turning if front wheels traverse a moderate change in road surface or over a small piece of debris there is a loud clunk heard from within the cabin. Sound is also produced when driving forward at low speeds (10-20 mph) and turning the steering wheel side to side in fairly rapid succession (steering wheel direction change in every 0.5-1 second). The front shock absorbers have been replaced without change in symptoms. My concern is that there could be a steering/suspension component that with greater force, e.g. In an accident ,or traversing a significant road hazard like a pothole at high speeds, or even a reactive quick turn of the steering wheel to avoid a potential threat to vehicle and passenger safety, could result in a failure of the causative clunking part(s) resulting in loss of control of the vehicle and/or a collision.

A bolt fell out of my rack in pinion steering.it caused me to lose a lot of control of the steering while driving (just before getting on a highway).i still had some steering, but i had to drive slow and the direction of the steering wheel had no relation to my direction.(i.e. The steering wheel was at 90 degrees and i was proceeding straight.)eventually, i completely lost the ability to turn left.note: i am reporting this, because acura failed to include me in a recall of a shock, because they did a regional recall.i bought and drove the car for 4 years in cleveland, oh (included).but i moved to colorado (excluded) and i was not covered.my shock broke dec 24th on a highway and the tire shreded at 55mph.acura took tons of info from me, but took no responsibility.

While drivingat 20 mph steering failed.

Consumer states while driving 65mph a tire rod broke slashing the left rear tire causing it to blow out. Ts

Motor mounts failed at 50k miles and need replacement.

01 mdx motor mounts failure, these motor mounts have been replaced twice on the car already and it currently has 105,000 miles and needs motor mounts replacing again.

Horrible rust on subframe. Subframe disconnected from vehicle while driving!!! very lucky i was not going at a high speed. This is very unsafe, and there are many similar complaints for these mdxs/pilots online.

Vehicle was backed into garage parking space as usual by wife.key removed, vehicle was thought to be in park.parking brake not applied.garage door was left open.30 minutes later, vehicle was not in garage and was straight across the cul-de-sac at neighbors driveway 6' away from their car.upon further inspection, minor damage and paint scrapes were observed at back of neighbors bumper and right front of the mdx.plastic clip was observed on ground that attached plastic bumper to body of mdx.shifter was found to be in reverse on mdx.testing after the fact showed that the key can be removed while not in park.i noticed a recall starting with 2003 mdx of the key being removable while not in park.we have owned this vehicle since new and have been at same address.

I have a 2001 mdx with rearsubframe bushing bolts that are rusted out and disconnected from the body. The back end has been clunking.the rear subframe bolts that goes through the bushing has disconnected from the body from what looks like rusted out connectors or maybe the body itself.

Without warning the tailgate glass fell to the ground when the consumer was closing the tailgate.consumer has notified the dealer and the manufacturer.

Acura mdx driven for 5 years had motor mounts replaced at 65,000 miles. Seemedlikewas not the only mdx thathad this problem. Having part replaced, could save part if needed. The failure led to engine vibrating , which could lead to more problems, including transmission.

2001 acura mdx, multiple engine mount failures at low mileage and on a vehicle that is only driven on the street.required replacement once under manufacturer's warranty, once under extended warranty under 100,000 miles, and now both need to be replaced again at 102,000 miles.please recall, this is expensive and recurring.

I own a 2001 acura mdx and i had both motor mounts go out at 70k miles.

Subframe shifts while driving. Dealer notified.

Terrible underbody rusting causing subframe to come out of the rear. Vehicle about to split in 2

Both front springs broke simultaneously when backing out of driveway.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving at a low speed, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the front driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 05v385000 (suspension), but the vin was not included. The failure mileage was 210,000.

The springs don't work right, the 4 wheel don't work at all, the car don't get up to speed like it's suppose to. Every time you make a sharp turnthe transmissionstarts messing up

Horrible rust on subframe. Subframe disconnected from vehicle while driving!!! very lucky i was not going at a high speed. This is very unsafe, and there are many similar complaints for these mdxs/pilots online.

2001 acru mdx front left coil spring failed.eight inches of the spring seperated due to two seperate cracks.*dt

Dt contact statesreceived a recall letter and the dealer refused to fix the recall. The recall was for the front suspension.also, contacted the manufacturer ,they said since he was living in california that he would have to take the vehicle back to missouri to have it fixed.

Left and right front suspension springscollapsed, causing thevehicle to fall onto the tires.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise. Additionally, the contact smelled a burning odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the passenger front coil spring had completely fractured and the frontal passenger coil spring was beginning to fracture as well. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v385000 (suspension). The failure mileage was 158,650. Updated 8/14/14

The vehicle started riding lower in the front and making knocking sounds whenever it went over a bump. We took it to the dealer and they advised us that both front springs had broken and the whole shock tower/spring assemblies had to be replaced as the vehicle was unsafe to drive.the parts were relaced at my costs as acura said the vehicle was off warrenty at 120,000 kms. After repeated negotiations with the dealer and honda canada we gor a dealer credit of 100% of the cost of the repairsas part of the negotiations i had to return both assemblies to honda canada and i do not know how they were disposed off.

2001 acura mdx. Consumer writes in regards to driver side front suspension coil spring *tgwthe consumer stated when the driver side coil spring broke, it pierced the tire, resulting in him losing control of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. While driving 25 mph 8 inches of the front coil spring separated from the vehicle. The contact didn't mention if the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The current and failure mileages were 150000.

The front spring on my 2001 acura mdx broke, there was no excessive force or corrosion involved, the vehichle only had 51,000 miles on it. I was very lucky it did not puncture a tire or disrupt the steering and result in an accident.

Dt: while driving or going over bumps there were noises.also, while backing out of driveway the steering was very stiff to turn, and when driving forward there was a smell of burning rubber.stopped vehicle, and had it towed to service repair shop.the front right coil springbroke and was digging into the tire, causing the rubber smell. The service manager said the tire had not been damaged enough that it would need to be replaced, but the front right coil spring would have to be replaced.both front coil springs were replaced.since the repair there wereno problems.did contact the dealer, who said they were not aware of anything.

Rear shocks. This vehicle has 37,000 miles. Rear shocks failed with a pool of oil on the ground and all over the wheel. I have never has shocks go out this quickly on a vehicle.

While traveling approximatley 40 mph in a 2001, acura mdx right/front goodyear integrity tire, size: 235/65r17, dot: 4b87 experienced a blowout.consumer smelled something burning before incident occurred.a tire shop was unable to locate cause for any smoke or burning smells.there were approximately 5,530 miles on tire, and it was original equipment.*nlm

The goodyear viva 3 set of tires installed on my vehicle the first of the year have less than 3000 miles on them and i have had six flats once i had 3 in one day.. I am registering a complaint against goodyear, the manufacturer of the viva3 now, because the last (today the 7th flat caused by a pin prick size hole in the outer sidewall) tires do not get pin sie holes in the sidewall except by defect.these tires,on their wheel are lighter weight than my smaller size convenience spare (donut). I can almost push my finger through the rubber on the sidewall and pushing on the tread flattens the tire when deflated. The treads are so far apart 25 % of the tires are bald at installation.

Vehicle/transmission constantly jerksafter reading numerous forums of individuals that have spent thousands on replacements for recurring issue...this needs to be recalled and transmission needs to be replaced/repaired.

Car keeps slipping like it's trying shift gears. Jerk like when speeding up. Now check engine light is on and does not pick up speed. Driving on d5. Is this a known issue? this is dangerous and can cause accidents.

Its showing all the symptoms of the recall that indicates the transmission needs replaced and radiator as well and has obvious signs of over heating and gear dameges. Engine light and flashing d5 with all codes from powertrain.*dt

1st occurrence) during the month of march 2011, the car started jerking while i was driving. It would speed up then lose power. It was very hard to stop the car. I took it to a mechanic who put it on a machine that showed i needed a new transmission. I paid $2,800 for a rebuilt 90 day warranty transmission.something must bedone to bring awareness to this issue along with reimbursing customers for having to spend their money repeatedly for issues that keep occurring. I need help in finding out how i can submit a claim for reimbursement to cover the cost of honda's faulty manufacturer defect.

Driving home last evening; first 5 miles; up a hill; slowed to make turn onto freeway.i took my foot off the accelerator, and the engine died.power steering became very sluggish; had to struggle a little to pull off side of road.car restarted easily, problem did not recur that night.

2001 acura. Whiledriving last evening in 35 mph zone.pushed and released the "set speed" button on steering wheel to maintain safe, legal speed.car immediately started to accelerate.i let it go to see if it would cease; it did not, so finally at 60 mph, i tapped the brake to disengage and slow down to correct speed.tried to reproduce, once, did not recur.but scary event nonetheless.

Driving south on i-5 at 9:30am sat morning. Light traffic. Overcast & 58 degrees f. Traveling in lane 3 (four lanes) with no vehicles in lane 4 next to me or ahead of me. No vehicle ahead of me in my lane either.we had just reached the apex of the seattle ship canal bridge. One adult guest riding in front . A sudden loud crunching/shattering sound & my driver's side window completely shattered to a translucent but non-transparent green color & within two seconds the heavy glass chunks began falling inward onto my body & some into back area.i thought i had been shot & didn't feel the pain yet, my heart raced, my guest exclaimed "my god what just happened?" & then she turned to check for traffic on right side to assist me in pulling over.due to the light traffic i was able to quickly cross the other 2 lanes & exit on the roanoke exit to stop. My guest went around to the outside drivers side & said she could see no signs of anything amiss other than the shattered window. I was continuing to experience glass fall so i tried to pick & direct falling pieces to floorboard. Then i got all the visible pieces out of the frame & onto my floorboard. The car was drive-able & i did not cause a problem on the freeway so i began driving back toward my home on side streets. As i drove my friend called my husband who called acura of lynnwood & told them what happened. He ordered a new window for which they charged him $300.63 to order a new glass window (note: the service guy said he had never heard of something like this happening). Today, they put the new window & i paid $208.36 for labor.so total was $508.99 which is right at our insurance deductible so it becomes out of pocket expense for us.we are the original & only owners of this well cared for & garaged acura mdx therefore i'm disappointed that this failure wasn't just taken care of by the dealer or manufacturer.

The auto dim feature the rearview mirror on my 2001 acura mdx no longer works.there is a liquid looking stain in the center of the mirror that is very distracting during the day and even more so at night.after more research, this appears to be a common problem.new mirror will be installed to correct the issue.

The contact owns a 2001 acura mdx. The contact stated that there was bubbling on the rear view mirror. He later noticed an abnormal liquid coming rom the mirror. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty, providing no assistance. The failure mileage was 118,000 and the current mileage was 119,000.

Rear view mirror leaking fluid and obstructing view. The leaking fluid had a strong odor and had been reported to cause sore throat and watery eyes in some cases. We went to the dealer and were told that we have to replace the mirror and have to pay for it $157.00. We also called the manufacturer of the mirror and they did not want to take any responsibility for the replacement. We are the original owners of the vehicle and the car was not in any accident to cause that kind of defect. The mirror was intact without any cracks or dents when it started leaking this fluid.

I have a 2001 mdx with rearsubframe bushing bolts that are rusted out and disconnected from the body. The back end has been clunking.the rear subframe bolts that goes through the bushing has disconnected from the body from what looks like rusted out connectors or maybe the body itself.

Front wheels locked while driving at 60 mph. When this occurred vehicle skidded to a complete stop. Front tires burnt rubber. Vehicle was towed to a dealership.

I own a 2001 mdx (first year release) and we love it!the reason for my complaint is that when having routine service today at my acura dealer (leith acura in cary, nc), they noticed that one of the alloy wheels has a crack that appears to run across the back of one 'pillar' of the wheel and toward the front facing on both sides of that spoke or pilar.i've never had such a problem with any alloy wheel in 35 years of car ownership and wouldn't expect it particularly with a luxury vehicle such as the acura mdx.the dealer would not offer any assistance other than to sell me a new wheel.i want to know if acura will warranty the wheel, as this appears to be a real anomaly.there is no indication of impact to the wheel which might have caused the damage.please advise.
