This car has had multiple issues with the srs system, which has rendered it inoperable. Apparently, there are design issues with the seat buckle and seat sensor that have been there all along. There are multiple owner complaints here and on the internet about this. This apparently makes the entire srs system inoperable, including the driver airbag. This along with the well documented transmission issues make this a "rolling coffin"-- i am not sure why honda is not concerned about the safety of its owners. I guess it would take major injuries and lawsuits and publicity to get some action.

Car passed inspection in january, srs came on

Takata recall. The contact owned a 2001 acura cl. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle from the median strip another vehicle t-boned the passenger side of her vehicle, causing the vehicle to collide with a parked vehicle. The driver's frontal air bag did not deploy but the passenger's side frontal air bag did deploy. The contact sustained a cut on her forearm that did not require medical attention. The other driver was also not injured.a police report was filed.the dealer and manufacturer had not been contacted. The vehicle was towed to the salvage yard and was totaled by the insurance company. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was still at the salvage yard two years later. The contact recently received notification of nhtsa recall campaign number: 20v-027000 (air bags). The failure mileage was unknown.

My srs light turned on a few days ago, so i went into mullers woodfiled acura in hoffman estates, il. For them to diagnose the issue, they charged me $130.00 and told me that opds control unit needs to be replaced and it will cost me close to $800 with a managers discount. This opds unit had a manufacturers extended warranty which ran for 10years and expired sometime in 2010/2011. Now that it is out of warranty, i have to pay for this by myself. I did call acura/honda client relations/customer service hotline and the customer service rep: [xxx] who opened up a case #[xxx], did assist me by apologizing but somehow did not even offer me a discount.i am very disappointed with honda/acura for this warranty issue because i did not replace this opds unit because my srs light never turned on, am i supposed to purposely turn it on before the warranty expired to get the opds unit replaced? i believe it should be replaced at least once for everyone that ever owned a honda/acura model that had a similar issue.i would appreciate it if someone could get back to me to direct me to right person that could assist me with this issue and/or open up a case against honda/acura to help resolve this issue.thank youinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v027000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact contacted dick hannah acura of portland (12030 se stark st, portland, or 97216, (503) 506-8572) where it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the air bags warning light illuminated intermittently. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Alarm for airbag turned red all time.request for tests and verifications were denied by dealer.

The srs light came on due to a faulty passenger seat belt buckle switch which will render the airbags in operable in a crash. Looks like i'm not the only one with this same problem and you guys haven't done anything. The dealer wants to charge my $300 to get it fixed.

A recall was issued several months ago for my airbags.the parts are not available and i have yet to receive notification of the recall from acura (i found out on the web). Previously, i had contacted acura by mail and was told over the phone that i would have to pay for my airbags to be fixed when the first takata recalls happened in 2016).my car is without a doubt unsafe to drive.i've attached the original letter i wrote them based on our conversations.they do have my contact information!there is no excuse for the delay in notifying me or in repairing my airbags.

My srs light is on, and always on, driving, in park, etc. However, my car has not been recalled. I read that if the srs light is on the system will not work, however the seat belt restraint in both front seats and side air bag indicator both work. Dealer should examine, determine problem and fix at no cost. My navi dvr system also works only intermittently. I have the most recent disc. Mostly it is a bunch of lines across the screen, black and white, sometime blue and white. I would say one in 20 starts the navi system works.

Takata recall. My transmission is acting up.???

The air bag casing popped twice and the air bag was replaced.

When the passenger seat belt was fastened, the supplemental restraint system (srs) warning light lit up. The srs light remained on until i erased the scs by entering the appropriate memory erase signal. After the passenger seat belt was buckled again, the srs light came on again requiring another scs erasure to turn it off.after every scs erasure to turn the srs light off, it turns back on every time the passenger seat buckle is fastened.it is my understanding that in this car (2001 acura cl type s), the air bag deployment system is inactivated whenever the srs light is on.

The passenger side airbag in my 2001!acura cl was recalled and the company never contacted me about it! i bought the car on 5/28/20 with no title but i do have a bill of sale on a notebook piece of paper but anyways i saw where there was recalls for some parts on my vehicle and was researching up on this stuff and came across the information that my airbags have been recalled...what possibly is there to do about this situation? please and thank you have a blessed day!!! here is my campaign id '04v176000.

I have a recall on my airbags but the acura repair shop does not have the part and it has been 6 months since i received the notice that their is a dangerous recall.what can i do?

2001 acura cl with transmission problems (slipping)**nar**ccthe consumer stated he was not having problems with the transmission at the time when a letter was received regarding possible automatic transmission problems with certain 2001-2001 acura's, however he was experiencing srs wiring problems in dec 2002. The transmission problems didn't began until december 2003, which resulted in having a re-manufactured transmission installed. The consumer stated there was never a mention of engine mount problems or replacement in the notice that was received in 2002. 4 years later the consumer began to experience more problems, the transmission was replaced, 11 days later more problems had surfaced with the second transmission and upon inspection, the front engine mounts needed to be replaced. The consumer believed there was a direct relationship between the front engine mounts and the transmission problems he experienced. The engine mounts should have been replaced the first time the transmission started to exhibit a problem.

The odps sensor fails if, according to acura, someone places a cell phone, laptop computer etc. On the passenger seat.this sensor may also fail if someoneplugs something into the accessory charging port in the console.according to acura this is " due to the manufacturing process at the time, the opds control unit, and /or opdsmay fail prematurely."this condition causes the srs light to be on and when this light is on the airbags will not deploy.this is a huge safety issue as no warning about doing any of these is ever mentioned by acura.if someone puts a laptop or cell phone on the seat it could cause a condition in whichthe airbags won't deploy. Repairs are over $500 when this happens. At minimum acura should be required to place a sticker/ warning of this condition in their cars. This has been a problem on all acura cars and could cause a death.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v027000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. Gold coast acura (3195 perkin ave, ventura, ca 93003; (805) 642-3600) was contacted and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

The air bag light keeps coming on for no reason. Go to the dealer to get it checked and there is no code for the airbag.the light will stay off until i hit any bump in road. I was on the interstate when it comes on and in town when it has come on for no reason.

My daughter was in a high speed accident in a 2001 acura cl 3.2 (going approximately 35-45 miles per hour on impact).air bags did not deploy on her vehicle, but did on the other driver's car.impact was on front passenger side of vehicle.both cars were deemed "totaled" by insurance companies.

Vehicle suddendly accelerated while driver had foot on brakes, wheels started to spin and went through garage wall and in back yard, but evenutally vehicle stopped because it ran up on a pole. Airbags did not deploy.

On the airbag system which controls the deployment of the airbag for my vehicle.it is referred to as the opds sensor, this is suppose to be the brain of the airbag system.my vehicle was taken care of with the utmost care, and this sensor keeps malfunctioning and turning on my srs light on my vehicle.the dealer tells me that when the srs light comes on all my airbags are shut off. They say this part malfunctions all the time and can happen just from a cell phone near the seat or leaning over to far in the seat.if you read online forums for this, many many people have the same issue with this vehicle.then i go to acura and they tell me its $600 to fix it because my airbags wont work unless i spend the money.this has been an ongoing problem with many acuras over the past years.i appreciate your help in this matter and know many other people who have problems like mine, they just don't know how to go about filing a proper complaint.sincerely, william brown.

Today i went to start my car and the srs light was on and i didn't know what it was. So i called my acura dealership and was told to bring it in for them to look at. I was told that it is not safe to drive since my air bags would not deploy with that light on and that i would have to pay since it was not covered under warranty or my extended service contract which i paid extra for. They said that the problem is in a sensor in the passenger seat and that even if i didn't replace it they still would charge me around $90 just because they looked at it. They said the manager called california and they have agreed to goodwill it, but you will have to pay for the labor which is $160 and out of my safety i chose to go ahead and pay for it, but don't think it is fair that i have to be responsible for a manufacturer defect.i've read online that many other people have had the same problem such as at www.acurazine.com and other acura owner sites.

Impact with deer, on left side fender, door, and rear quarter panel, broken windshield, broken mirror, which caused $5000 worth of damge, but the left side air bags did not deploy.why?

The left window goes down but not in going up =stop in the lower part

Dt: srs indicator light is on and according to the dealer it was anerror cod15-3.they told the consumer that it was caused by cell phone or electrical interference.there was a tsb which applied to error code 15-3. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they reset the sensor switch, this happened again the next morning.do not know status of the airbag systems is not.the consumer did not feel that a cell phone could cause this type of interference.

The ignition switch interlock is not working the way it is supposed to and i am able to turn the ignition to the "off" position and remove the key without the transmission in park.

The ignition switch can turn completely off while the car is not in park. When i went to shut car off while i was stationary, i forgot i had it in d5 which is drive. I shut the ignition all the way off and i was able to pull the key out. Got out of car an started to move.

The ignition lock-out system has permanently failed on my 2001 acura cl so that the key may be removed when shifter is "drive" position. This creates a dangerous situation where thecar can roll away after the driver has exited. This has happened to me on several occasions, including once when the car damaged my garage door. I understand this is also a problem on honda badge vehicles. A recall is needed.

The key for my 2001 acura cl can be removed regardless the position of the car's automatic transmission shift lever. In other words, the lock-out that should prevent this from happening in any position other than "park" is not functioning.this has occurred all the time over a period of several months and i understand this is a problem on other honda manufactured vehicles.as a result of this issue, my car rolled into my garage door after i had shut it off and gotten out of the vehicle, having mistakenly left in "drive". Damage minor.i have an appointment with the dealer for repairs (he doesn't believe me). Since this is a potentially dangerous situation, a recall, or at least an owner alert, should be considered.

I own a 2001 acura cl 3.2.the locking mechanism in the ignition switch does not appear to be working.the switch can be turned to off and the key removed without having the transmission in park.this appears to be a problem since the car can continue to move (whether or not someone is inside the car).this was only noticed recently when my son began using this car.since my wife and i normally put the transmission in park before turning off the car and removing the key, i am not sure how long the problem has existed.nhtsa's recall database indicates that honda/acura have issued recalls on other vehicles but not for the 2001 cl.the recalls were for the honda odyssey (1999), honda accord (1998 to 2002), honda prelude (1997 to 2001), acura tl (1999 and 2000) and acura cl (1998 and 1999).

Acura 2001 was parked on the 3rd floor of a parking structure. Owner(driver) backed car out of its parking spot at 5:00 p,m, when the temp. Was 13 degrees above zero.at first owner was unable to get any acceleration when stepping on the gas pedal to go forward in drive, gear 5. Tapped on gas pedal for accelerating and the car lurched forward with engine racing at a high rate of speed. Driver was trying to decelerate the car while steering car through the descending levels of the ramp.slammed on the brakes and they did not hold the car tried throwing it into reverse and nothing changed.on the first floor driverwith foot on the brakes sheared off the front of a pick-up truck before smashing in to the wall, which stopped the car. Driver suffered a broken sternum, collar bone and l-3vertebrae fracture in the back. Spent two days in the hospital and 4 weeks in brace off work.

Takata recall. My transmission is acting up.???

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2 cl.while driving 50 mph, the engine and steering wheel vibrated, shook, and wobbled.the dealer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty and the repair would be his responsibility.the contact also stated that the vehicle would automatically accelerate when stopped at a traffic light.on january 9, 2008, the contact went to trade in the vehicle and was informed that it was a salvaged vehicle.he was referred to nhtsa by his credit union.the current mileage was 117,374 and failure mileage was 50,000.

Several broken motor mounts in 2001 acura 3.2cl. This likely will lead to defects in transmission and or engine which can cause an accident. This information on broken motor mounts on my vehicle and the likely affects came directly from my acura dealer. It is likely these motor mountswere broken several thousand miles ago. In 2008 the car mileage was only 65,000 and when i purchased the car on dec. 7,2009 it has 92,000. I had the vehicle inspected at time of purchaseand the broken motor mounts were found by the acura dealership.i am 62 years old and have never experienced broken motor mounts in any of 20 cars i haveowned until now. There should be a recall on these motor mounts, or a credit provided by themanufacture to owners that need to replace broken motor mounts. This truly is a safety issue.the only recall on this vehicle has been for the automatic transmission and quite possibly thesebroken motor mounts have been the cause or a possible cause. Owners need to be informed about this safety issue as soon as possible by inspections being performed on motor mountsfor 2001 acura 3.2cl. I would appreciate any help on this issue.

My 2001 acura cl 2.3 transmission had failed appox 2 mos ago. I have missed several days of work because of the problem and repair time and cost during the holiday seasons. My wife also missed several days of work to accommodate for driving me.

Motor mounts for acura cl-s type failing.

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2cl.in 2004, the contact received nhtsa recall notice number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission).the dealer replaced the transmission.as a result, the warranty was extended for seven years.on august 29, 2007, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance and she was informed that a new transmission was needed.the dealer stated that the entire transmission failed and was difficult to shift.they also stated that this was the same defect that was stated in the recall she previously received.acura was unconcerned since the warranty was extended from the prior recall.the contact stated that her main concern was her safety and the resale potential of the vehicle.as of august 30, 2007, the vehicle remains at the dealer for transmission repair.the powertrain and failure mileage were unknown.the current mileage was 53,082.the dealer stated the trunk latch failing and security system not activating. While driving vehicle will decrease in speed while applying gas. Contacted dealer. Transmission was slipping, had part replaced, but problem reoccurred. 8jb

Takata recall. My transmission is acting up.???

The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the shoulder where the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic. The failure was located at the transmission.the contact stated that the transmission was replaced at 85,000 miles under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was repaired and the local mechanic replaced the transmission. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000 and the current mileage was 174,458.

Transmission failure. This is a safety hazard as the transmission stalls and then slams into gear. I no longer feel safe to drive this car. I had to pay a great amount of money to fix my defective transmission.

Transmission lockup at highway speeds. Vehicle would drop speed from 70 mps to 10 mps without warning in a matter of seconds almost causing loss of control & crash with cars following on highway. As described in acura service bulletin 04-020. Car was fitted with repair part but did not prevent it from occurring again over time & miles from driving.

The vehicle transmission failed at 18700 miles.the consumer received a notice that the manufacturer was extended the warranty on the transmission.a little over a year later the consumer transmission failed and was replacedwith a new one.the consumer then received a recall on the transmission and had it replaced a second time.now the transmission is starting to slip again.

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. When starting the vehicle, it stalled in second gear. The contact had to downshift into d4 to correct the failure. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 157,000. The vin was invalid.

Transmission would not shift into reverse or into drive on multiple occasions. Transmission would notdecelerate.

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. The contact stated that the transmission slipped into second gear without warning. The vehicle was serviced by an unknown dealer for nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train); however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Contacted duncan acura in roanoke ,va. Transmission drops speed from 70mph to 10 mph without warning on highway. Was told transmission was repaired when recall came out but car had too many miles on it now 223,000. The service manager at duncan would not return my calls or schedule to get transmission inspected after i understood that i would need to pay for the inspection. Contacted acura headquarters and they issued a claim & claim rep to help out. Never will trust duncan acura with a safety issue. Just wanted to know if this issue was the same as the earlier recall was for on these cars. Not safe to drive and acura dealer would not take the time to inspect it. Still waiting on response from acura been 4 days.

Was driving on the freeway when transmission started to slip and the failed and down shifted to second gear.nearly caused accident on freeway. I did get hurt from the sudden drop in speed.

Transmission failed prematurely.transmission was rebuilt.transmission failed again years later unexpectedly on the highway.

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. The contact stated that the vehicle intermittently would not shift into second or third gear. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train), but the vin was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. Updated 01/05/2017*ct

Summary:i own a 2001 acura cl with 32,437 miles on it. The car has been perfectly maintained.while driving approximately 20-30 mph, the transmission slipped hard between first and second gear jerkily, and the rpms increased.the vehicle was taken immediately to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. I inquired about any recalls regarding transmission and the dealer stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) . I didnt remember. I feel strongly that the failure was either not corrected properly, or that acura corporation failed to properly identify this serious and recurring issue. My car has been driven about once a week since purchase and a few times for vacation. Given the low mileage and regular maintainence i feel this $4,511.39 repair issue is one i cannot afford to ignore. It should have at least included a lifetime warranty, instead of 3 years or 36,000 miles.do i have any recourse or is this a forum simply for complaints?

It's been slipping...but it never bothered me until now and it's super bad.

I took my car to nalley acura 1355 cobb parkway south marietta georgia 30060 the told me they put in a jetter into my transmission and took a picture into manufacturer. I asked for a summation ot what they did and they sent me back pictures out of a book nothing signed where anyone done anything just pictures out of a book. This was a recall of 2nd gear transmission claim.

I own a 2001 acura 3.2 cl type s.i was driving my car (approx 45 mph)on a busy two-lane road yesterday when my car suddenly stopped responding to the accelerator being pressed.i had cars coming at me at a high speed behind me.i saw an opening in oncoming traffic so that i could turn and get myself and my child out of harm's way.when i turned left, my car (i guess) downshifted and came to an almost complete stop with cars coming behind me and at me!!!i thankfully safely got to the side of the road and have not driven it since.i have been told it sounds like complete transmission failure.myself and my son could easily have been killed!what do i do?am i responsible for paying to replace transmission?

I took my car to nalley acura1355cobb pkwy. South marietta georgia 30060 i was told that 2 jetters was put into my transmission and they took a picture and sent it too the manufacturer. I asked for a record of the maintenance i never got one [xxx] the service tech. Said that i would be mailed one. I do not believe the picture that was sent to me was of my transmission, cause it took days for them to come up with this picture and i did not see my name by it or my vin number. The info the company sent me was out of a book that was showing me a diagram of a transmission. I stood there for 4 hours and all that was done was my hood was raised an no one hardly touch my car. It was never put upon a jack or raised to a level where you could get a good look a the transmission. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. The contact stated when shifting gears to reverse in his garage, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop and crashed into his garage wall. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to turn off the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. No police report was filed. The contact called local dealer acura of honolulu (3251 n nimitz hwy, honolulu, hi 96819, (808) 829-3073) was made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired as of yet. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000. *ln consumer stated vehicle was repaired.

Transmission slips through gears, shifts hard into park, and d5 will blink and everything goes black. Car has been in the shop numerous times and only works properly when it wants to. When it begins to slip the car is uncontrollable and dangerous.

The transmission failed prematurely.the part had been replaced three times, however the problemrecurred.the transmission would slip and delay shifts.the downshifts were sometimes harsh.on at least two occasions when downshifting to pass other vehicles on the highway, the vehicle would feel as if the transmission had gone dead and then shift. *sc

Parked car. Moved transmission lever to what i thought was park (push straight up). Started to swing out of car putting weight on outside foot. The transmission was actually in neutral and the key was removed - it can be removed in any gear position just like the 2001 honda accord recall says. The acura of the same yearnever had the recall even though it is using the same defective part numbers. Car started to roll backwards and i was forced to stop car using foot and hand pressure resulting in slight sprain to wrist requiring no additional care. This is a troubling safety issue that was actually recalled for honda brand vehicles only ignoring acura brand defects.

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the transmission slipped and the rpms increased excessively. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) in 2004 but the failure was not corrected. The approximate failure and current mileage was 57,000.

The vehicle was involved in fatality which was my brother, they cannot explain why the vehicle entered into a skid on a pretty straight part of the highway not sure if it was a powertrain issue as i did see a recallafter i did some research following the accident. The other issue is the mechanism on how the driver safety belt attaches to the frame as that was damaged on first impact which caused my brother to be ejected. Something as important as a safety should not be compromised so easily.

While driving on the highway at 65mph, my car suddenly slipped out of gear, engine revving and smoke pouring from under the hood. I had gotten no warning at all.the check engine light never came on and the car had no prior instances of gear problems. Had to get it towed home where it sits in my driveway because i can't afford a new transmission.

While driving dashboard lights came on and vehicle was stuck in one gear.transmissionwent out. Had transmission replaced, but problem happened again within 4000 miles. They replaced wiring transimission, and itwent again.

I took my car to the dealer at 16,000 miles, because the transmission was slipping and jerking.they said they couldn't duplicate the problem.the transmission totally failed and was replaced at 25,000 miles.the replacement transmission started acting the same way.it failed at 44,000 miles.acura claimed that the solenoids needed to be replaced this time... Not the whole transmission.1,300 miles after having the solenoids replaced the transmission has begun slipping and jerking again.acura won't do anything until the transmission fails again.this is rediculous.acura (and honda) must be forced to do something about these transmissions.both of my failures have happened in traffic, and the first time my car had to be towed to the dealer on a flatbed.please help!dt

I have a 2001 acura cl-s and i've had the trans replaced once because of sudden down shift.(that by the way happen on an interstate and i almost lost control of the car) but that besides the fact according to palm beach acura.now my car does the same thing again and they will not change it unless it happens when one of there mechanics drives it. *nlm

In march of 2002 my 2001 acura cl type-s had its transmission replaced with a factory rebuilt one.not even a year after the replacement the rebuilt transmission went out(2/19/03).fortuantely i was not on a highway as i lost a lot of engine power to the car.

I own a 2001 acura cl type s.on january 5th the transmission of my car failed to engage while i was travelling south on hwy 101 in ca, at approximately 70 mph.no one was injured.the situation could have been drastically worse if i had been travelling in heavier traffic because there was no warning before the transmissions failure.

I was speeding up approaching 50 mph.i went over a hill and saw a yellow light.i suddenly lifted up on the accelerator at which time, the transmission downshifted to second gear (1500rpm to approximately 5000rpm).the next acceleration had a slipping of the clutch effect.i had to accelerate gently to be able to speed up.i arrived home about 5 minutes later at which time the engine idle kept "wanting" to die, came close a few times, but managed to keep running.had the same problem 5 days later with the downshifting.i did not witness the slipping clutch effect after the second time i felt spontaneous downshifting.they both happened under similar circumstances.small shocks are felt sometimes when transmission changes gears.was informed by my local mechanic to report problem to acura.a few months earlier i spoke to acura at which time they informed me there was a part needed to be changed (recalled) in my transmission and that they would contact me after the part came in.i never received a follow-up.the reason i am following up this now because my mechanic told me that i needed to or that i may be stranded because the transmission may suddenly go dead.

Transmission has shown not to engage in third gear (when in sport shift control) causing strain on the engine also it may not shift down from 3rd gear to secondon "sport shift".this has happened continously servicer since 10000 miles and i learned to live with it (not using the sport shift).further more in august/september of 2002 i have started hearing a sound which has ben diagnosed by a third party garage as indicative of serious transmission "problems". 2001 acura 3.2 cl. Consumer writes in regards to transmission problems *tgwthe consumer stated the transmission would slip at times while driving.when the consumer contacted acura, he was informed their records indicated the transmission was replaced on or about april 12, 2004. The consumer stated he has no record of the transmission being replaced.the consumer stated his wife did take the vehicle to the dealer on march 29,2004 because she was experiencing problems with the transmission, but the service report read no problem found.

2001 acura cl type-s - transmission failure at 28,900 miles.sudden downshift while traveling on highway (i476). Car was in for standard service days before incident and the dealer found no problems when asked to look into the transmission slipping.7 days later the transmission completely failed causing an extreme downshift at highway speeds with no warning. Due to the alertness of other drivers - no injuries occurred.. *nlm

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2cl. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle intermittently down-shifts. A technician stated that the failure occurs between the second and third gear. He also noticed that the transmission fluid was discolored; however, since the warrantyexpired they would not provide a free remedy. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 98,090.

Nhtsa campaign id number : 04v176000 - recalled the transmission on my 2001 acura cl-s vehicle.at the time, it already had it's 3rd transmission.this was in august of 2004.now in may of 2005, my transmission has failed again and has been replaced again.(i now have my fourth transmission.)this is to advise you that acura/honda's repair prodcedure as indicated in their recall (nhtsa campaign id number : 04v176000) is flawed and has not resolved the safety issue.

Transmission not engaging fourth gear and revving-out on third gear.check engine dash indicator stayed on and traction control indicators come on intermittently.second transmission replacement with less than 40 k miles on the car.

While driving 75mph on tollway, while tranny was in auto mode, not ss mode. The car shift out of 5th & into 2nd or 3rd, going from 75mph to 30mph within less than a second. Engine rpm revs to redline, the car swerve & almost out of control. Cars behind me had to swerve & braked hard to avoid rear ending my car. Acura dealer will replace transmission.

Transmission faliure. *la

While driving vehicle will decrease in speed while applying gas. Contacted dealer. Transmission was slipping, had part replaced, but problem reoccurred. 8jb

Transmission failure, this is the second transmission failure for this vehicle.this first failure was july 3, 2001.first failure vehicle blew smoke.second failure resulted in transmission slipping out of gear and sudden, hard shifting.vehiclewas in questionable safety condition due to constant slipping out of gear during turns, acceleration. *nlm

Acura 3.2 cl & tl vehicles have a very high incidence of transmission failures.my vehicle sat at the dealer for seven (7) weeks waiting for a new transmission because so many transmission have failed and continued to fail that they are backordered for over a month.acura will not divulge what is causing so many transmissions to fail.this is an extremely dangerous condition because the transmission will suddenly slip, causing complete loss of the ability to accelerate.acura's only response to this problem is to replace the entire transmission with a rebuilt unit which also has a high incidence of failure.

The vehicle's transmission problem became worse after the recall repairs were made.the consumers vehicle had problems changing into second gear.campaign id number : 04v176000 *tc

I purchased new, a 2001 acura cls, and gave it to my mother, about year later in 2002. At only39,620 miles the transmission started to severely slip, and required towing to the acura dealership, where, at a cost of $5,076.66, required replacing the complete transmission and ecu. The dealer service department associate could explain specifically what caused this damage.

Transmission problems

2001 acura cls(vin [xxx]).when pulling out onto a major road (55mph) with oncoming traffic the car paused as the trans slipped, the engine revved to 5000 rpm, the trans then locked into gear, the tires squealed and the car lurched forward.thank god that my wife didn't run into someone or lose control of the vehicle.now i read that this is common with this model year and transmission.the nhtsa knew of the problem and a class action settlement was offered.however nothing was done to make owners and the general public safer.it seems to me that at a minimum the nhtsa shouldhave mandated acura to warn owners, and mandate acura to perform more routine inspections on this poorly designed transmission, and perhaps more frequent fluid changes.i read that the nhtsa was considering additional action on this issue and hope you do.this incident occurred with no prior warning.allowing a 240 hp car on the road with this type of known failure is unsafe to owners and the general public in my view. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The transmission in the car went at 25,000 miles. It was replaced but the replacement also failed at 60,000 miles.

Car suddenly slipping out of gear, revving with no acceleration, 3 days later the engine cut off in the middle of a very busy intersection, simply put i could have died that day.the transmission failed and needed replacing.i paid for a brand new one about 5k.

Driving homedoing about 65 in a line of traffic when my car decides to go from 5th gear to 2nd w/ no input by me! even though i was belted i thought i was going thru the windshield since the nose of the car went straight down.

While in traffic vehicle came to an abrupt stop without warning. First time this happened, transmission locked up . Had transmission repaired.second time this happened transmission slipped out of gear. Having transmission replaced again. Dealer can't identify why transmission keep becoming inoperative without warning.

Transmission slipped when shifting gears a couple of times then seized up on the freeway while traveling 60 mph a few days later.luckily, there was no car behind me so no accident occurred.car was towed to dealership where transmission was replaced under a special extended warranty.new transmission started slipping when shifting gears within a few days.car is currently back in the dealership getting another transmission.this failure is a safety hazard and should be a recall not a extended warranty.the only warning sign before the transmission seizes is some gear slippage when shifting which does not cause any warning lights to illuminate that would signal the driver a dramatic failure is imminent.

Transmission slipping 2-3transmission replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2cl. While drivingapproximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, the transmission began to slip without warning. The engine revved excessively high.the failure occurred intermittently. The driver was able to continue driving normally. An authorized mechanic stated that the failure was contributed to the third gear clutch pack. The vehicle was repaired. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The vin was rejected from system. The failure mileage was 58,985. The current mileage was 59,000.

Transmission was defective. Consumer had to have the vehicle towed back to the dealership after transmission work was done. Consumer contacted the manufacturer.however, the manufacturer was not willing to assist the consumer.prior totransmission's work being done this vehicle did not have a transmission problem . The check engine light illuminated and the vehicle would not go into reverse. *sc

Bought car in 11/2002, thought i had bought a reliable car and all i have had is trouble, first the car had a ticking noise in motor and had problem with brakes brought it in 2wks after bought car.brought it to dealership and they adjusted the valves, that was 1/2003,also we had noticed problems with tranny at that time also. Brought car in 4/2003, then brought car in 8/2003 because tranny was still downshifting or not shifting at all besides the ticking of the motor.we brought car in several more times and each time we complained about tranny and ticking of motor they say they can't deplicate the problem or fix the motor. Finally in sept 2003 they fixed the valves , but not tranny. Can't find problem. I know that when u go up and incline the car will be going only 25 mph and car shakes violently, when i drive car on highway she shakes between 2nd and 3rd gear, also in 4th and 5th gear, the car has even stalled on me so now what? we've asked dealership so many times to fix problems but they have there mechanic drive it and he says there is no problem with tranny or engine and computers in car are fine.one day my wife and i could be seriously hurt, besides other people who will be near us.we even called up headquarters in california, they assigned us a project manager, he said he hasn't heard about the problems we are having, but we called another dealership a bit further from us and they know about the problems with the tranny and valves besides the brakes too.so who is lying to whom???all i want is my car fixed. I knowthey aren't honest with paperwork, they use previous paperwork or never give us the paperwork, we have brought this car into the shop over 8 times since 11/2002, its a 2001, my chevy is better then this and its now 11yrs old, go figure!someone is going to get killed, i know there was a recall that i just found out about in 2002, i was never notified!!!!

Transmission failure.while driving on the i-95 interstate the automatic transmission, which was in 5th gear would downshift into a lower gear as soon as i remove my foot from the accelerator.the problem got worst, in that even with my foot going up a hill, the transmission downshifted into a very low gear which caused the rpm to reach 5,000 and the speed to rapidly decreased.i was able to get to the shoulder of the interstate and stop the vehicle.the acura dealer said that the transmission needed to be replaced.acura had extended the warranty for this transmission but my vehicle had over 100,000 miles, putting it outside the warranty period.they were able to partially cover the cost of the replacement by not charging for the parts but i would have to pay the labor. I read of similar problems occurring as part of odi action # pe02-081.

I was driving on the freeway going about 55 mph.i pressed on the gas pedal to increase speed to get in the other lane.my car suddenly slipped from fifth gear into first gear causing the car to lurch forward then backwards.i was shocked and my hands left the steering wheel but i regained control.itfelt like i ran into a barrier.i had whip-lash but did not report that.my 2001 acura, cl 3.2 type s had started to "stumble" between gears just lately so i was going to take it into the dealer.when this experience occurred on the interstate, it was very unsettling.that is a dangerous defect.my car is at the dealership waiting for a "new" transmission.i hope this never happens again. I only have 48,700 miles on the car.

Failure of automatic transmission in 2001 acura cl type s. I understand the sudden downshifting has been determined to not be a safety hazard, but in this case the transmission would not engage any gear while shifting between second and third.the resulting sudden loss of drive power almost caused the car behind me to hit me. The 2-3 shift is almost always under heavy acceleration away from a dead stop, to deem this not a safety hazard is absurd. If i were not able to pull to the shoulder of the road i would have been hit.acura dealers have denied knowledge of this issue until the transmission actually fails. I tolerated 20,000 miles of erratic shifting before mine died completely. I now have 4,000 on the new transmission and it has been exhibiting the same behavior the original did, always between the 2-3 shift.

My 2001 acura cl suddenly downshifted while i was driving on a highway and i caused a injury to me. This happened while on my way to the dealer to replace a defective automatic transmission. In the course of that trip it sudddenly downshifted in 1st gear 4 times.

First made complaint about transmission problems in 01/02, dealer diagnosed no problem.transmission failed 03/03 and was replaced by the dealer.transmission has apparently failed again 07/04.

Purchased 2001 acura 3.2 cl type-s (replacing my first acura 3.2cl that was totaled in a 1/2009 crash) on 3/2009 as second owner from acura dealership with 35,232 miles. Got all service records for this automobile from dealer including the record dated 9/9/04 (mileage 14,660) for the installation of the oil jet kit during transmission recall. While driving home on the highway this evening, the engine and vehicle stability assist (vsa) system lights came on and stayed on. When i finally stopped at a light and then processed through it at a normal slow speed, the tachometer jumped from 2,000 to 4,000 rpms while in first gear. Luckily, i was within a few blocks of my destination. When i returned to vehicle to drive home, car would not shift out of first gear. I had to park the car on a city street that same night. I hadn't experienced any transmission problems until this one night. Had car towed to my regular mechanic the next day only to be told it was a transmission problem. Contacted local acura dealer to be told that my vehicle was out of the warranty period and they tentatively offered a good will split of the cost. (i had bought my first new 2001 acura 3.2cl from them and they had installed a new transmission during the earlier recall.) had vehicle towed to a nationwide transmission specialist shop. They determined that transmission had to be completely overhauled. Agreed to have it repaired and they used new factory parts and honda genuine automatic transmission fluid (atf-z1). After completion and payment, i was advised to drain and refill fluid every 15,000 miles and flush transmission system using atf-z1 every 30,000 miles. I had never been told this transmission servicing schedule by my original local acura service department consultants. Owner manual states changing the fluid at 45,000 miles or 36 months in their maintenance schedule for driving in normal conditions. Vehicle had 58,300 miles when this problem occurred.

2001 acura cl type s automanual transmission went from 5th gear to i believe 2nd with no warning or input by me as driver.thankfully roads were only wet and not slippery as they usually are in buffalo this time of year.there were vehicles behind me that were not pleased with my "driving." incident date: 1/8/03

Transmission began to slip at 36,000 miles. Vehicle was taken to dealership and transmission was replaced.

Recall (04v176000) performed, 50 miles driving, the transmission started violently down shifting in traffic to 1st or 2nd gear at speeds of 40 to 60 mph. Acura replaced the transmission.

While driving 20 to 40 mph transmission failed. As a result, vehicle will not shift gears.

2001 acura 3.2 cl type-s transmission failure.transmission failed at approximately 20,000 miles w/ little warning signs.any signs my wife felt were attributed to traction control engagement due to inclement weather.the vehicle failed while driving on the highway, obviously a potentially dangerous situation.acura has replaced the transmission, but the replacement is beginning to fail also.the first signs were transmission slippage when attempting to cross a busy highway, again a potentially dangerous situation.only reporting this due to obvious nature of issue and the fact no recalls have yet been issued...fixing this problem on an occurence basis is not sufficient.even barring direct accidents due to loss of control, it is still a potential safety issue to have your vehicle lose velocity on a busy highway or intersection.

Transmission failure.gears began to "slip", particularly between 2nd and 3rd, seemingly during upshifts and downshifts.the transmission felt as if it was searching for the right gear, and as it was engaging it, would slip.the engine would then rev freely.after completely letting it rev down to idle, gear would reengage some of the time.other times had to stop and restart the car to get moving again.

I have a 2001 acura cl-s,having severe problems with the transmission. There was a recall, but they say it is out of warranty, by time. Problem is when i bought the car 2 years ago i brought this to someone's attention at acura , and was pushed away as if i knew nothing, and now they want to charge me close to $5000 to replace the transmission.

Acura 3.2 cl type s has had 4 total failures all related to transmitions problems.the failures occured while driving in the insterstate highway at 65mph.dealearship has replaced four transmitions causing time loss at work and placing my self in a hazardous situations while the failures occured leaving standed in unsecure areas and far away from any kind of help or assistance even in areas with cell phone coverage. The date of the incident registered below is the last one.

Purchased 2001 acural 3.2cl s-type with 32k miles.at 38k miles, car began to slip in 3rd gear.transmission would completely disengage in 3rd, and i would have to shift it to adjacent gear to re-engage transmission.over the course of the next week, slipping became increasingly more frequent.i have read many similar such complaints, and i am seriously concerned about the reliability of the cl transmission.

Automatic transmissin failed to upshift properly while driving.thiscaused vehicle to jerk forward as if down shifting on its own. Would shift out of 2nd gear with rpms running very high.

Transmission was not engaging.rpms went high and lowwithout pushing brakes.engine check light was on andvsa light was on constantly. Dealer has been contacted. Felt it was a transmission problem.

Sudden jerk on the highway, jerk in changing gears and sometimes does not change to the 5th gear.a delayed and hard gear change between 2-3, 3-4.driving on the freeway at 65 mph and sudden down gear change may cause to lose control of car.probelm reported to acura, and a refurbished transmission was replaced.month and half later the same problem occured.acura then again replaced with another refurbished transmission.and again similar problems occured at this moment.acura is looking at the car.i hope that nhtsa force acura to recall the car for the public safety.this problem remains uncorrected and can cause injury or death.acura should replace with new cars.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was taken to the service dealer for a transmission recall 04v176000 in december 2004.the service dealer greased the transmission and performed no other work to the transmission as described in the recall.one week ago, while accelerating the vehicle, the transmission would not switch gears.the service dealer stated the transmission needed to be replaced and the contact expressed as part of the recall, the transmission should be replaced.the dealer told the consumer gear 3 and 4 were inoperable not gear 2 as stated in the recall.updated 11/21/06.

The transmissions and brake issues need to be address, i feel that i purchase a lemon car.

I have had 2 transmissions replaced and my 3rd transmission is failing as well. I have gone through acura to see if they could goodwill the transmission since i am a victim of thier faulty transmission recall. They refused to replace my transmission and told me it would be $5,100 to replace. I feel that this is not my fault as they have engineered a defective transmission that has reulted in deaths and serious accidents. I was just out side the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty and the would not help. As a member of our armed services i feel i am being treated very unfairly and i fear for my life every time i get into my vehicle. I am not able to pay this kind of money to replace there problem.

At 50 mph consumer applied accelerator, vehicle would not accelerate. Dealer determined thattransmission had to be replaced.

This failure is apparently widespread in this and similar models of honda.this sudden failure can cause serious accidents. Please evaluate for recall.

Transmission failure :2001 acura cl type straveling 50 mph onus6 transmission down shifted abruptly and made me swerve out of trafficnext day transmission totally died and was replaced under warrantythe second transmission is giving signs of the same problemdec 2001 first transmission replacedjan 2003 second transmission checked and fluid is burned plus transmission is on its way out, i am afraid my vehicle is unsafe to drive.

My 2001 acura cl s had the check engine light, vsa light, and ! light come on. Thinking the problem was related to the emissions, i continued to drive car. The next day i took car to dealer, to have problem diagnosed. The service manager couldn't see me to the following day. The next day he ran test and told me the transmission was bad (grinding in torque converter), and to take it to his other dealer. The dealer confirmed the previous diagnosis.10-26-04.however, he wasn't sure about warranty because car was brought over from canada. I was told to contact acura customer relations, and i took car home. The next day i went on the web and found numerous complaints about exact problems i encountered.the differences were that the transmissions were downshifting from 3rd to 1st while people were driving on expressways, almost causing serious accidents. The problem with the warranty was ironed out within 2 days, and acura is replacing my transmission on the 3rd of november. However, the dealer's service mananger never warned me of the danger of driving the vehicle. The car has 53200 kilometers (33000 mi). The transmission fluid was changed by dealer about 2 years ago, when i complained of burnt smell. The oil jet recall for the 2nd gear was done in august 2004. The obvious problem with the transmission according to other owners hasn't been addressed. Now i'm going to revceive a rebuilt transmission, that may be a time bomb waiting to happen.

Complete transmission failure.the dealer will not repair the problem.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on a dry highway, the transmission failed suddenly without warning.the contact coasted to the shoulder.the vehicle was towed to a dealership where they determined the transmission failed.there were not any problems with the vehicle prior to the incident.there was a prior recall, nhtsa campaign id # 04v176000, regarding power train: automatic transmission performed on the vehicle in 2004. The consumer stated the incident was reported to the police. Updated 10/04/06.

While driving at 25-30 mphtransmission will go out, causingconsumer to lose controlvehicle.consumer has hadtransmission replaced five times. Contacted dealer.

Upon normal acceleration to enter the highway at about 50 miles per hour the automatic transmission locked up. The effect was a serious skid and inside the car it felt like i had hit a brick wall. If i had not been wearing my seat belt i would have been launched through the windshield. The car at this point was 1 year old with about 14,000 miles.the transmission was replaced. The new transmission slipped and shifted inappropriately and was also replaced on nov. 6, 2003. This trasmission is not much better. There has been three transmissions in the car and i am fed up. This is my third new acura since 1997 and i had no problems with the other two.

The automatic transmission fails to shiftproperly. Would jerk forward as if it was down shifting on its own.transmission will not shift out of 2nd gear. Also, rpms would run very high. Recently was not able to shift in to reverse. Felt as if the brakes were on. The drive indicator started flashing. Traction light had came on with the engine light and stayed on. Problem had started on 7/7/03. Had taken the vehicle to dealership on 7/11, and had picked up vehicle on 7/18. Mechanic indicated the problem was not able to be duplicated. The problems with the automatic transmission still exists.

Transmission started slipping and got progressively worse for several weeks.the day before it failed, i was driving along at a steady speed of about 45 mph when the transmission decided it wanted to be in first gear.the car jerked violently and slowed down very quickly while pulling me to the left (nearly losing control with the front wheels locked) until it shifted back out of first gear.it felt as if i had slammed on the brakes and if someone was behind me, i would have been rear ended.this happened again shortly after but not as violently.when the transmission finally failed, it would take several seconds to shift gears and would rev up high (as if in neutral) while between shifts.when it did shift it shifted hard.then, as pulling away from a stop light, several of the lights on the dash lit up including the check engine, vsa, and d5 lights and was stuck in second gear.also, the car would not shift into reverse.i understand from the dealer that this is not an uncommon problem and most people report symptoms similar to mine.i find this scary because i could have been killed had i been in different circumstances when the transmission shifted into first and caused me to slow down and swerve all over the road until i got it under control.the dealer claims that they think they know what the problem is and have fixed it but i've heard from people that are on their third transmission and are again having problems.

Transmission failure 2nd.

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2cl. The contact stated that when she drove in second gear, the vehicle seemed to buckle. She would have to let her foot off the accelerator pedal in order for it to gain momentum. Other times, it would not connect into the second or third gear. The vehicle had previously been repaired according to recall 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) and the dealer refused to repair it again. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 205,000. The failure mileage was approximately 198,000.

2001 acura cl 3.2 automatic transmission, accelerating into the freeway and it automatically shifted into neutral. Pushed the gas and it wouldn't accelerate and the engine revved up. The drive was still in d5. Car in the back almost hit me.

2001 acura cl, 32000 miles,5 speed auto trans.while driving in heavy traffic at 45 mph, the transmission violently and erratically shifted from 5th speed into 1st or 2nd and back into 5th.this unexpected shifting caused the car to rapidly slow down, then accelerate. I turned off the highway onto a less crowded street and continued driving towards my destination.the problem recurred 5 or 6 times in the next 3 miles.previously, the only indication of transmission trouble was earlier that day. There was some slippage when shifting between 2nd and 3rd speed.the acura dealer examined the car and told me i needed a new transmission.acura informed owners by letter that there are problems with some transmissions and extended the warranty on them, but i had no idea of what to expect.this was a frightening experience!it is fortunate that i had my seat belts on as the sudden lurching would have thrown me against the steering wheel with considerable force.i think there should be a recall on these cars to replace the transmissions.

Automatic transmission erratic shifting, flare at upshifts, it shifts suddenly from 5th to 2nd gear, casuing extreme deceleration at high speed.causing vehicle almost out of control, almost into an accident.

Dt: the contact states there is nhtsa recall campaign 04v176000 concerning the automatic transmission. This vehicle has the same problemsas indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall. The manufacturer will not honor the recall due to the vehicle's registration having a branded title. The contact's insurance company provided authorized documentation witnessed by a notary stating the vehicle was not a salvage vehicle.

2001 acura cl type-s, requiring fourth transmission.

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2cl. While driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle began to shake violently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the motor mounts were replaced. The contact also stated that the vehicle had always experienced transmission failures and that the transmission was replaced three times. The vehicle would intermittently slip out of third gear while driving. The failure and current mileages were 216,000.

2001 acura cl type s transmission failure at 32000 miles.

When i am at speed of 40 and above the car has a tendency to downshift unexpectedly, almost causing 2 accidents thus far.they claim it is just "grade logic'' i would argue the opposite though.

Transmission continued to fail. A recall was honored.however, dealer was unable to remedy the defect.

Check engine due to transmission problem. A lock up occur due to a problem in the solenoid in the transmission. This car hada recall before for the transmission. It was replaced, however. It has new issue. Many people suffer from this problem.

There is a huge space of time in 3rd gear when the transmission basically feels like it's in neutral and won't respond to throttle.the engine revs higher but the car does not move while in middle of motion.the rev range when it happens is between idle (700rpm) and 1300 rpm.it happens all the time.

I purchased a 2001 acura cl in june of 2003.within the last 18 months, i have replaced the transmission 4 times.there is currently a recall of this vehicle for transmission issues, and as a result, the transmission has been replaced at no cost to me.however, i am tired of taking the care in every 7500 miles for both service and a new transmission. It is obvious that there is a serious problem, and instead of continuously getting the car fixed, i would like to just get rid of it altogether and save myself the headache.i have contacted acura directly, and i hope to get this issue resolved asap.

I was driving at 65 mph on i-476 (pa), when i slowed slightly to check exit sign.upon deciding to proceed to next exit, accelerated midly fom 60 to 65.transmission slammed into, what felt like, 1st gear causing vehicle to pitch forward.this was so sudden, that it threw my hands off the steering wheel and caused me to almost loose control of vehicle.had someone been behind me, the road been wet, or had i been on a curve, i would not have been able to regain control.transmission showed signs of poor shifting before this incident, so i took the vehicle to acura.they failed to fix the problem.i was very lucky, this condition could have caused a major accident. Transmission failed with a sudden downshift while driving 50 pmh

This vehicle is equipped with 3.2 litre engine.while traveling 55 mph transmission went into neutral after changing into 3rd gear.driver had to coast to side of the road due to loss of power.jlg

The transmission has been replaced once already and is about to be replaced again. After the first tranny was replaced the quality and performance level of my car dropped greatly. The 2001 acura cl type s i am driving now is not the car that i bought, nor want to drive. It is now sluggish, the transmission is stil acting up, it is louder, does not hold itself in a gear for more sporty drive. If i wanted a honda accord, i would have bought one. Now my car drives just like one.

Transmission failure at any speed in the acura cl 3.2 type s.

Consumer states that while drivingand with no warning transmission locked up. Dealer notified.

It appears from talking to many different acura owners, acura has had a major problem with their transmissions.the 5 speed in the 2001-2002 tl/cl series.i was lucky enough to be on residential streets when my transmission failed. Thus driving slowly.i hate to think what could have resulted if i was on the freeway traveling high speeds.i believe acura needs to address this issue.thankyoumr

The contact owns a 2001 acura cl. While driving at 45 mph the transmission began making a loud noise. The vehicle began to lose power and would not move forward. He was able to maneuver off the highway and had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealer. A diagnostic was performed and it was verified that the transmission had failed. The transmission was replaced at the owner's expense. There were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current was 72,000. Uodated 05/13/10.*lj

Failed transmission in 2001 acura cl-s;approx 35,000 miles.i possibly noticed a discrepancy in shifting around 3rd gear maybe 2-3x over past 3-4 months, including the morning the car was taken in to the dealer for routine service, however was unable to repeatedly notice a problem.dealer notified us that morning of the transmission failure & need for replacement under warranty.*nlm

Transmission shifted down automatically at freeway speed

My car is 2001 acura cl type s 35000 miles. Been driving for less than a year. My transmission was failed past saturday. Was travel at 50 mph suddenly transmission failed and won't accelerate. The car behind me almost hit me. I received a recall statement from acura back on dec. 2002 about the transmission. I took my car to local dealer to have the transmission replace but they refused cause my car warranty has been cancelled since feb. 2002. Because of the recalled, should my car cover under this warranty even my car have savage title?

While driving 60 mph vehicle suddenly decelerated, and the automatic transmission stopped functioning.the cause of the problem had not been determined.

I have had surgery fusing 7 vertebrae in my neck and back. This was a result of a sudden and severe down shift of my acura cl 3.2 while driving on the highway.

While drivingon the highway transmission would slip and jerk, causing the consumer topull off the road. The consumer has made contact with the tire manufacturer.

Replaced first transmission at 13596 miles, second transmission at 25223 miles, third transmission at 27648 miles, while the first two transmissions failed on local streets, the third did not. When the third transmission failed i was traveling on a major hwy and was almost rear ended by a large suv. I was trying to motor up to the next exit when i was losing speed fast. Thats when a large suv was skidding behind me and trying to switch lanes to avoid an accident. This suv almost sideswiped the vehicle along side as well. This all happened in moderate traffic conditions.

The vehicle was taken infor a recall.the repair was made on the transmission.after the repair was completed, the vehiclestalled.

Transmission failures(2).

My 2001 acura cl with only 45k miles on it had the transmission go out in a very dangerous manner.the car without notice would down shift into second gear when you were going about 50 mph. It would start shifting on its own causing the car to rapidly slow down. The car was very hard to control at this point but because i was only a few mile from the dealership i was able to make it there and got a new transmission.when i drove into the dealer with in 10 seconds they said "you need a new transmission". I thought this was a bit odd and did a little research on the web and found out what bad transmissions these cars had. Acura told me they had fixed the problem. Now, less than 5k miles later the same thing happened with my "new" transmission".i bought an acura for reliability and quality. I feel this problem is not being properly addressed (just putting same bad transmissions back in cars with small modifications). All over the net you read about honda and acura owners having similar stories but there is very little "official news" on the problem.until honda gets some heat for this mistake i think they will not properly fix the problem.

The trans started to act strange. Hunting for and missing gears. I contacted the dealer for an appointment, and had to wait 4 days to get in. All the while the trans is getting worse. The day before i had to bring it in, i was coming home from work when all of a sudden, without warning, at 65 mph the trans dropped to 2nd. No lights, no indicators nothing. I was almost rear ended by a cadillac escalade. Since the trans locked up there were no brake lights. I had a heck of a time keeping the car under control. Needless to say the driver in the caddy was very upset with me. And proceeded to perform "road rage" manuevers in order to show me his disdain. He cut me off, gave me the one finger salute, challenge me to pull over. Luckily i was able to avoid him and continue home. The next day i took the car into the dealer, all the while the trans is missing gears, hunting and pecking, and downshifting for no reason. I stayed on slow surface streets and side streets all the way to the dealer. 16 miles away. I did not want to give the car to lock up again at freeway speed. The dealer claimed that the failure was do to an aftermarket air intake and springs. They would replace this trans but no others should the case arise due to the modifications. I explained to them that i know of several other owners who have had a similar problem. Including one gentlemen who has been through 4 transmissions. They still insisited that they would only replace this trans. Acura client services said the same thing. "you modified the car, therefore the failure is because of that." that statement insults my intelligence as a consumer and human being. Both the dealer and acura took this stance. The dealer even went so far as to say that people with "my type" of accessories. Drive the car hard. Which is ludicrous. This car could have caused a serious accident, it has been fully maintained and taken care off. The trasnmission failure is not the fault of anything i did to the car.dt

Transmission abruptly failed at 56,000. This caused a dangerous driving condition as the engine would rev until the transmission would suddenly drop into gear causing the car to jerk wildly.*la

While driving my 2001 acura cl type s to work (about 10 miles) my car would not go above 45 mph, then only 30 mph, but was able to make it into the parking lot.an hour later wanted to take the car to an auto shop and all seemed normal until about 6 miles after when the car would no longer move (engine still running ok).tried all gears but to no avail.let the car sit for 10 minutes and car worked ok again and was able to drive it to the auto repair shop.the next day they called and stated the transmission is "shot". All clutches are bad.they installed a jasper remanufactured transmission.i was told that acura only used this transmission type for the 2001 model.it was the first year for that transmission and the last year.i assume there were a lot of problems with it and acura went to a different transmission for the 2002 model year.it cost me $4500 to replace the transmission.i had about 102,000 miles on the car at the time of this failure. Note:there was a recall on the transmission from acura and i did bring the car back to acura for the recall notice.

Transmission was used in a normal fashion.this vehicle was never used any harsh conditions.for such a well made vehicle it's ashame for such an expensive piece of equipment to fail.dt

Acura-cl type s transmission problems at 30000 miles. Transmission started slipping and engaged at random points. Accelerated to 60 miles per hour, at which the transmission down shifted abruptly without warning causing the tires to chirp. Warning lights came on after down shift in the form of a blinking d5 light, check transmission light, vsa light on with exclamation point. Would not shift out of gear until car was turned off and restarted.

While driving the vehicle, gears slipped out and go into a different gear or went into neutral, preventing the vehicle from moving while on the road. Taken to the dealerthree times to replace the transmission, but the problem recurred.

My 2001 acura 3.2 cl type-s with 5-speed automatic transmission shifted from 5th gear to 1st gear on her own while my car was going 40mph on the highway, which caused a sudden pause.luckily the cars behind me were able to veer away, otherwise it would've been disastrous.few minutes after that my car lost 5th, 4th and 3rd gear, i had to drive home using 2nd gear... When i got home, i realized the car also lost reverse gear.now i am on my 2nd transmission, and somtimes it would also start surging a bit during shifting which is early sign for another transmission failure.i am just nervous everytime i sit in that car.especially after i learned that so many people had the same problem.

When we heard about the recall, we took the car in to have the recall problem fixed.we took it to sierra acura on main street in alhambra, california.we were told by the service department to bring the car back when the recall problem starts giving us trouble.so we waited until it gave us trouble which was around monday september 29, 2008.we tried to take it to sierra acura yesterday around 3:30 p.m.we were told to bring it back the next day because they were closing in about an hour.we could have gotten the car there in about 15 minutes, and were willing to leave it there until it was fixed.so, we were very disgusted with the service there and took it to another dealer thomas acura in covina.they told my son who is the driver of the car that he would have to pay 75% of the cost which is about $4,000.00 because he brought it in past the due date of the recall.first of all, we never got a recall notice so we didn't know when the date of the recall notice was.we heard about the recall by word of mouth.second, when we did take the car in a timely manner, they told us to bring it back when the transmission starts giving us trouble. Third now we have to pay 75% of the cost because of the error of the acura service department .

Failed transmission in 2001 acura cl 3.2 at 38500 miles. Would not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and transmission revved in neutral as this was happening, putting me in a dangerous position as i was driving in rush morning rush hour traffic.

Transmission completely disengages at about 2500 to 3000 rpms and the engine shoots up to redline.acura is well aware that they have a problem with these transmissions, and needs to take corrective action on fixing all of them out there.this poses an extreme safety concern.

Driving on the highway at about 55 mph, all of a sudden there was no forward momentum from the car. Stepped on the gas and nothing was happening. Check engine light came on. I was able to coast offto an exit and park in a fairly secure spot on the side of the road. The car was towed to the nearest acura dealer. I was told the nextday that a new transmission was ordered for my car and it would be about a week before i would get my car back.*la

I own a 2001 acura cl. I was driving in to the driveway, when without warning, the transmission accelerated, brakes would not operate normally and the car hit the driveway wall violently with concomitant abnormal speed. I chalked it up to a one time event. The car sustained $6,000 in front damage. Today, likewise, as i was driving in to the driveway, the car again started accelerating on its own and i almost rammed in to the neighbors adjoining fence/tree. Upon review of all the complaints lodged against acura for transmission failure on this particular model, i came to realize that the vehicle is obviously defective in normal transmission operation. I was never notified by the dealer to have the car checked due to effective recall on transmission failures/operation. My attorney advises me to proceed with legal proceedings. Obviously, acura should be notified of horrific consequences of personal injuries and property damages that a defective transmission necessarily entails under otherwise normal operating conditions.

I was driving on the highway, in morning rush-hour traffic, at about 60 mph when the transmission started to shift erratically for a number of seconds.without warning, the car downshifted and i nearly hit my head on the steering wheel.fortunately, i was in a stretch where traffic was somewhat lighter, reducing the risk of being rear-ended.the transmission was completely uncontrollable for the remaining mile-or-two of my commute.once i was off the highway, the engine was running at about 4,500 - 5,000 rpm although i was doing only 15 mph.finally, reverse was inoperable once i reached my office park and tried to back into a parking space.i called acura roadside assistance, which dispatched a flatbed.the car was towed to acura of boston.eventually, i was told i would be receiving a "new" transmission.however, i believe it is a rebuilt transmission from another failure.i had noticed a strange humming noise almost immediately upon having the car returned to me from the dealer.i spoke to acura of boston and sunnyside acura (nashua, nh), and was told no noise could be heard by the techs or the advisors.this is, apparently, very similar to the experiences of other acura cl owners.and, it appears that acura knows about the defects/problems, but is unwilling to acknowledge it publicly by issuing a recall.i could have been seriously injured or killed, and others have said the same thing.this is very disappointing for any car, never mind a car(maker) with this "reputation" and price tag.dt

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2 cl.while driving 70 mph, the vehicle shifted from fifth to second gear.the speed of the vehicle decreased to 40 mph.the dealer stated that the transmission was slipping and that there was an erratic upshift.the dealer referenced recall # 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission), however, the vehicle exceeded the coverage for the recall repair by 9,000 miles.the contact notified the manufacturer who provided the same information as the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 118,000.

While driving 30-40 mphtransmission slips into third gear. Also, transmission shifts extremely hard, and will at times lock up, cause unknown.pleaseprovide any further information.

I have a acura 2001 cl type s.transmission failed at 25k miles, so i took it to the dealer.they said they would fix it and put a brand new transmission free of the defect.then at 50k miles my transmission failed again.i got it replaced and it still feels like it is going to have the same problem again. *nlm

The original transmission failed and downshifted into 1st gear when i was traveling on the highway at 60 mph rpm's went well past the red line and speed reduced to 35mph.i nearly went through the windshield but i was buckled.then i had the transmission replaced and the same thing happened about 15-20,000 miles later. I am on my 3rd tranny now.dt

Transmission failure while driving.

Transmission failed due to a design flaw.

The contact owns a 2001 acura 3.2 cl.while driving 55 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle jerked and stalled.a local mechanic diagnosed that the transmission would need to be replaced.the dealer and manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the failure was not remedied.the failure and current mileage was 100,000.

No events. Without any warning, at 60 mph steady speed my 2001 acura cl's automatic transmission seized up, causing my car to dramatically lose speed, and almost caused the car behind me to rear-end me. The acura dealer has said that since it has 130,000 miles on it they will not repair it. Acura claims it was recalled in 2004 for this problem, and they "fixed" it that year. I have been unaware of this defect until now, since i purchased it in 2005. I believe this problem should be made public, and to warn the hundreds of second-hand owners like myself who do not know how potentially dangerous this vehicle is. I can only thank god i had my seat belt on, or would have gone through the windshield. You have no idea how terrifying it is to have a car do that with no warning whatsoever.this defective transmission will now cost me over $3,000 to fix, even though i have had the transmission serviced regularly.

Purchased 2001 acura cl-3.2 on 12/02 as second owner from acura dealership with 46,570 on the odometer.noticed slight transmission slippage 02/03.had vehicle serviced and transmission replaced under warranty with.received letter dated summer 2004 of transmission recall.took vehicle to dealer on accordance to recall letter.dealer installed oil jet kit.on 05/23/09 (136,000 on the odometer), traveling approx. 70 mph on interstate, d5 started flashing.minutes later, the vehicle downshifted and the tcs indicated came on.the vehicle repeated this downshifting again while attempting to move from the center lane to the far right lane causing the wheels to lock experiencing violent jerking motions.the rear vehicle approaching had to maneuver to the center lane to avoid rear end collision.proceeded to roadside and parked the vehicle.vehicle was taken to home address and parked.called and informed dealer of transmission issue which had symptoms of prior recall.also contacted acura corporate headquarters and was referred to the dealership for servicing due to the prior recall.dealer serviced vehicle on 05/28/09 (inv# 291814) and determined by diagnostic, the solenoids malfunctioned.solenoids were replaced by dealer at owner expense and test driven by service center technicians resulting in no resolution and prompting another diagnostic error code.it was determined by the technicians that the transmission was experiencing unknown symptoms and recommended the transmission be replaced for a second time.due to vehicle being out of warranty and extended warranty, dealer will not offer good faith gesture or goodwill dealer replacement.vehicle was serviced at recommended manufactures intervals.service history was provided to dealer by owner.

Complete transmission failure while driving.vehicle suddenly throws you in second gear and starts to jerk and swerve. Transmission was replaced, and now 10k miles later the replacement tranny is leaking atf fluid again and slipping which are early signs of another failure.dt

I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph and my 2001 acura cl type s downshifted into 1st or 2nd gear causing the car to slow abruptly and swerve. The people behind me almost hit me and i almost hit the car in the lane next to me (not ot mention the pain of the seatbelt cutting into my neck). Good thing the seatbelt did would or i could have sustained injuries slamming into the stearing wheel or windshield. The acura is on it's second transmission with only 41,000 miles on it, this next one will be the 3rd. I was told that acura is aware of the problem. I was also told that none of the replacement transmissions are "new". They are all "remanufactured" with a 36,00 mile or 3 yr warranty. Obviously with the same problems not being fixed. This vehicle is a danger to have on the road. Why doesn't acura fix the problem. Perhaps a lawsuit would inspire them to correct the problem hopefully before someone dies.

I have a 2001 acura cl type s. The transmission has blown and replaced by acura with a refurbished unit. This one so far is working property. However i have made several trips to acura previous when my transmission was having hard time shifting to reverse and engage to reverse with loud metallic sound and hard thump.dealer tech were helpful and tried to call acura tech line to assist me in resolve the matter, but the tech line continue to deny the problem and insist it is normal for a transmission to engage hard.finally when the tranny blown and i took it to dealer using 2nd gear on street. Dealer said this (a blown tranmission) is the evidence they need to replace it. Even with a refurbished one not a new one. Also i have experienced 2 times on freeway where the transmission downshift on its own reducing the vehicle speed dramatically. Luckily there were no vehicle behimd me

After several abnormal gear-shifting patterns (as was described in a letter from acura that extended powertrain warranty due to such potential transmission problems, affecting only certain car models) being noticed, the car's engine abruptly died while the car was traveling on i5 at about 65 mph with all warning lights suddenly lit on dash panel.luckily, there was minimal surrounding traffic at the time and we were able to coast maneuver the car to the right shoulder before it stalled out completely.we feel that acura by extending the warranty was acting responsibly.however, after our harrowing experience, we strongly feel that acura should have taken more initiative in addressing this problem perhaps by doing a full recall so as to prevent such life-threatening situations from occurring.it is irresponsible for anyone to promise a fix after imposing life and death situations onto their consumers.

Transmission failure nearly resulted in loss of vehicle control and possible collision.dt

I have a 2001 acura 3.2 cl just days before my birthday the transmission started to slip i took it to acura dealer and they informed me that the transmission will have to be replaced at owners expense ($4800) and they also informed me that no goodwill gesture will be exercised because vehicle is out of warranty i am the 2nd owner of this car since late 08 and had no idea of the issues i am still paying for the car and it is my only transportation. I do not know how i will be able to afford both the car and transmission and there is no way for me to sell it this car not only nearly killed me but is now draining me financially (due to acura not replacing a clearly faulty transmission) and i am now stuck not being able to work and could lose my job this is a huge problem for me i even had to quit school!!!

I have a 2001 acura cl type-s with 69,855 miles. The transmission failed on wed jan 29,2003 while i was leaving the parking garage from the court house in downtown ft. Lauderdale. I was on the road going about 35 miles per hour and the car wanted to shift into third gear, but the transmission failed resulting in my rpms to redline. The car started buckling violently; luckly i wasn't going very fast, but i did swerve into the other lane partly due to the buckling of the car. I was able to make it home albeit very slow and only in third gear with my hazzards on. Had the car towed the next day to the dealer (rick case acura) and they are currently replacing the transmission. I will be selling this car because i no longer feel safe. Imagine if this had happened while on the highway.

I was driving my 5-year-old son home from school. After more than half of the stops, upon acceleration, the car's engine would race up to as high as 7,000 rpms. While maintaining 45 mph on surface streets, the car would down shift erratically, as if i had slammed on the brakes suddenly for no apparent reason. Luckily, we live in arizona, where the landscape is flat and the weather is warm year-round. According to acura client services, cold weather and uphill/downhill driving could instigate the trouble we've had. They'll need to come up with something better than that for us. We have owned honda vehicles since 1989, so for the past 14 years, we have been loyal. Now, the priciest purchase is what i would call a lemon, since we are now without a car for at least a week and they are replacing the entire transmission with a refurbished one. This is not acceptable. Plus, no recall was ever issued? why not? are we the 2% of the acura-buying population that does not matter? all i know for sure is that if we owed the american honda motor company something, they'd be all over us like white on rice. What about the little guy? who's going to give us what we deserve? not mr. Yakamikimoto-son living large over there in california.

Have had numerous transmission difficulties with my 2001 acura cl-type s.i am currently driving on my 4th transmission.need to take it in again because it is showing sign of trouble....again!!

I am an owner of 2001 acura cl type s. Vin number [xxx], odometer 26,000 miles.i had a transmission failure today. At first car suddenly changed the gear from 5th to possibly 1st at 60 mph on the highway a few times. This is very unsafe, i was lucky there were no close vehicles behind me. Then at the end of 15 mile trip from home clutch started to slip and i could not even move from the stop. I had hard time getting car home, it shifted erratically and stayed in first gear. While i understand that transmission is a mechanical device and can fail, this particular behavior of sudden down shift at the high speeds are not safe and can cause major accident.*lainformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2001 acura cl type s transmission failure.this is the 2nd time i have been through this.today the trans shifted from 5th gear down to 2nd.if i did not have my seat belt on,i would have been put into the steering wheel.this happened on route 1 going north in edison.

Since the consumer lives outside the usa, acura usa refused to provide a new transmission.*phthe consumer's vehicle experienced transmission problems.american honda admitted that the automatic transmission of it's cl and tl series may have problems, therefore they extended the warranty to 7 years or 100000 mile, whichever occurred first.now that the vehicle is outside the usa the manufacturer refused to provide any assistance.

Transmission does not shift from first to second gear resulting in high rpm status.

Acura customer care (800-382-2238) has been contacted about the transmission failure and acknowledge on the phone that there is a problem/flaw with the transmission on some acura but will not explain what the flaw is and how they are resolving it. My car is under warranty till it reaches 50k miles or 4 years and having no information about the issue i don't want to have a similar problem in couple of month, not knowing if what has been done will stop the problem from re-occuring again. It seems there is no technical bulletin nor recall published on this issue as of today. I found documentation on other owner still having similar problems with their transmission after it got replaced 2 or 3 times at a low mileage (check www.acura-cl.com). I would like an investigation launched on this issue about the hazard it creates and force acura to issue a public statement about the transmission flaw. The dealership replacing the transmission (oakland acura in oakland, ca) told me they had to replace transmission at such low mileage on other acura and were not surprised about the failure. They told me acura has a "fix" but will not give me details on what the fix is and the root cause of the problem. I am afraid acura will just change the defective part with the same new part which will go bad again in couple of weeks or months.

Dt:consumer has a 2001 honda acura 3.2 clthe recall was for an inspection of transmission 2nd gear. The more miles heat build up may causegear tooth chipping and may cause gear failure and cause the transmissionto lockup. The dealer replaced the transmission in thevehicle with a remanufactured transmission and 40000 miles later the transmission locked up. The consumer says this is the same problem he experienced before. Consumer says that he had a hard time with the manufacturer and he feels that they failed to remedy the defect in the vehicle with out charge, because he will have to pay for labor and a loaner vehicle to have his vehicle repaired.

Now on 3rd transmission.2nd owner replaced under warranty about 9 mos. Prior to my purchase (i am 3rd owner).transmission blew about 1 year after i purchased the car and i purchased new transmission through acura who offered absolutely no assistance even though this is a known defect.when the transmission failed, we were traveling on a highway at approx. 65 mph and car violently downshifted, nearly causing loss of control of the vehicle.acura is not taking responsibility for these transmissions. The transmission that the 2nd owner had put in was a transmission that supposedly had been manufactured to correct the known problem.obviously not, since the thing blew with only 77k miles on it!152k miles on this car and 3 transmissions. Ridiculous.

I have a 2001 acura cl type s.while driving on friday afternoon, jan 3, 2003 my transmission started to falter.i was just a few minutes from my home so i decided to keep driving the car till i got there.the tranny would jerk the car into second gear and then slip into third.at one point i was going about 50 mph and the car shifted unexpectedly into second gear.i felt a big jolt but was able to maintain control.the shift lasted about 4 seconds when suddenly the tranny upshifted to third gear.this made me think what would have happen if this had occur in the highway when the average speed is about 65mph.the car did give me advance warning that the transmission was failing but i never thought that it would downshift like that.i really believe that the tranny may someday cause an accident that results in injury or death.my acura cl has only 21,400 miles.needless to say, i had the car towed to the dealership.

I have a 2001 acura cl type s. The transmission failed at 56000 miles.

My 2001 acura cl s type has transmission problems.it would suddenly jerk when going from 1st to 2nd gear.when it goes into 3rd gear there is a loss of power. The engine d5 light blinks.

The transmission on my 2001 acura cl-s failed on dec. 31, 2003 at 35,000 miles.

There is a serious problem with the acura transmissions. There have been numerous failures and my biggest concern right now is that the failures are so random, that injuries or even fatalities are possible. The transmission fails and there is nothing we can do but hope no one rear end us or that it does not fail on us while we are on a highway. Which could become an extremely hazardous situation. Acura needs to fix the problem rather than just offer us an extended warranty.dt

My transmission kept going out causing me to lose control of my vehicle at interstate speeds.it was eventually replaced after two attempts of fixing a less serious (and costly) diagnosis that the acura dealer made.

2nd failed transmission on 11/21/02 at 30000 miles.dt

Vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating while driving. There was a winding/buzzingnoise before this occurred.transmission was replaced 3 times.

This is the second transmission failure that has occurred. The first time it failed i was stick in the middle of a busy intersection at morning rush-hour. Now the dealership has had my car for almost 7 weeks and they want me to allow them to try another (#3) transmission. I do not feel that the car is safe or reliable. Many other consumers have had transmission failure situations similar to mine and acura is offering money, entended warranties and other monetary compensation in lieu of legal action against them. The consumer should be forewarned and advised of the immenent problems occurring in this vehicle.

My vehicle has been regularly serviced and maintained as suggested by acura.however, i am currently experiencing great difficulty with my 2001 acura cl type s because the transmission system is malfunctioning.the transmission will abruptly shift into higher gears while the vehicle is traveling at low speeds.the car has lost power when ascending steep hills and presents great danger to other vehicles because of the need to pull-over or stop.although acura warranty covers this problem and applies to vehicles in the us virgin islands, they have not expeditiously dealt with the problem.already, after one month, acura has not sent the necessary parts to the dealer or made accomodations so that i would not be driving an unsafe vehicle.after numerous attempts to inform acura and their customer service department, i have received very little assistance.i hope this complaint will help build the record showing that acura is manufacturing a faulty, unsafe product and is failing to adequately remedy the problem.

Transmission problems (slipping) upon acceleration.automatic transmission has slipped a number of times (4 times) within the last week. It always happens at acceleration from a stop.*la

I purchased an acura 2001 cl type s2 years ago and was not aware that the car had recall problems involving the transmission. On 02/19/08 my transmission started acting up. It makes a loud noise and will not go in reverse. I took the car to the honda dealer in serramonte, ca. They refuse to fix the car stating it was repaired years ago. They said it will cost me $4,000.00 to repair the car. I am still making payments on this car and cannot afford to repair it myself. I feel they should repair it because it had a recall issue. It is very unsafe for my 6 year old son and myself...suppose the transmission completely fails..we could be injured and even loose our lives. I do not know what to do now.

Automatic transmission failure.sudden down shift.

Transmission started "jerking" forward as my vehicle was decelerating and continued to "hold" gears when it should have downshifted.i pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the car.the problem has not repeated yet.i am, however, aware of an inherrent weakness with the transmission for the acura 3.2 cl/tl

I owed 2001 acura cl type s. Last year the transmision when out on me. While i was on the free way. It would not shift gears.all the sudden the vehical slow down to 30 mph. On the freeway i all most lost control and got into the accident.i when to the dealer they replaced it with a new one.

I have had surgery fusing 7 vertebrae in my neck and back. This was a result of a sudden and severe down shift of my acura cl 3.2 while driving on the highway.

First made complaint about transmission problems in 01/02, dealer diagnosed no problem.transmission failed 03/03 and was replaced by the dealer.transmission has apparently failed again 07/04.

While in traffic and moving at approximately 1- to 20 mph, the wheel caved in and tilted sideways, damaging the left front fender. The car was undrivable and was towed to the nearest auto repair shop. Paul's motors 845 471-4240. The ball joint and axle were replaced. The fender damage will be repaired at the body shop. The tire was also damaged and was replaced.

Consumer states while driving the transmission down shifts automatically from 5th to 2nd causing the car to almost stops instantly.

I am the original owner of a 2001 acura 3.2 cl. I have had my transmission replaced 3 times since i have owned it. Acura has admitted to making a faulty transmission and as extended their warranty to 100k on the transmission, however, my vehicle is now at 134k and they will not cover the latest replacement transmission up to 100k which i believe they should. They can give me no guarantees of the expected life of the newest transmission and will not cover any further replacements. This means that if it goes out again, i will be paying $4,000 for something that is their defect. I am extremely concerned that it will go out again while i own it and cause an accident or will leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere as i travel alot. I have not been able to find anyone to assist me with this issue. If you can provide me with any help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Consumers vehicle has been into the repair shop several times for replacement and repair of the transmission.consumer requests that acura follow through with the offer of switching out the vehicle with the least possible loss to consumer.*jg

Nar 02/25/2003:while the consumer was driving at approximately 75 mph the car suddenly shifted down into 1st or 2nd gear, instantly dropping the car to 40 mph and then shifted back up to 5th.the consumer feared thatit could have caused a severe accident and acura needs to address the issues of these defective transmissions.

Transmission failed two times and was replaced. The third time while the consumer was driving on the highway transmission failed, consumer lost control of the vehicle and hit a cement divider damaging the vehicle.the brakes and rotors have been replaces several times.the brake failure caused pulsation in the front end.the air bag casing popped out twice and the air bag has been replaced twice.*nlm

Sudden downshift into 3rd gear - near accident.

The contact owns 2001 acura cl. He stated that two of the front seat belts did not retract and became stuck. The contact noticed that the seat belts were not functioning when the vehicle was purchased. The air bag light continued to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer ten times but the dealer could find the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000. The current mileage was approximately 164,000.

Driver suffered a broken sternum, collar bone and l-3vertebrae fracture in the back. Spent two days in the hospital and 4 weeks in brace off work.

I purchased my 2001 acura new in july of 2000. Over its life time of three years & 37k miles its had the brakes worked on four times.*break pads replace four times *rotors machined down twice *rotors replaced twicebasically during normal rapid braking the cl's steering wheel shakes rapidly.acura had stood behind there product and replaced the rotors and pads at no charge. One major safety problem early on, is there was a problem with the brakes. The brakes just didn't feel like they could stop the car.i know until the brakes were replaced i was driving a totally unsafe car that could not stop as it should.even now after replacing the brakes so many times if do rapid braking the wheel will shake.i feel the cl's brakes are inadequate for the size, weight and horsepower of the automobile.if the brakes were engineered correctly, the first replacement pads and rotors would have solved the problem.i have owned many cars over the years,i own a 95 acura integra & a 94 nissan pathfinder. No matter how i drive these cars or any other car, the wheel never shakes during any braking.my 95 acura integra has 110k miles and the brake pads have been replaced twice due to the fact they were worn out. The rotors have never needed to be replaced.thank you for your concern with my problems with my acura cl.if i can be of further assistance please contact me via email or telephone.eric correa

There was a pulsation in the steering wheel, when the brakes were depressed, due to a faulty brake/rotor system.the parts had been cut and replaced several times, however the problem continued.

While driving brakes vibrate/pulsate very heavily, and vehicle pulls very hard to the left.took vehicle to dealer several times.vehicle still has the problem. Please provide any further information.

The transmissions and brake issues need to be address, i feel that i purchase a lemon car.

The brakes failed twice and were replaced. Both the rear and front rotors failed and were replaced more than three times.

Brake rotors were severly warped.this is normally a wear and tear item and is expected to require replacement; however, acura knows of a manufacturing defect with the brakes on at least the 2001 3.2 cl and 1999-2001 tl vehicles as evidenced by tsb 01-017.this is the second time i've required the rotors to be replaced (not just resurfaced) in 45,000 miles.first time at around 25,000, second now at 45,000.there is no reason the rotors should have warped a second time since the tsb was addressed and the new pads and rotors should have prevented the heat issue that leads to warping.this was obviously not the case.the tsb does not fully correct the issue and can lead to a dangerous situation as the brakes are not taken in for service.

2001 acura cl type s, front brake rotors warping: at 34000 miles, the brake discs had warped. I took the car to the dealership, and after i showed them the acura technical service bulletin 01-017 about warped brakes, they agreed to resurface the brakes under warranty. At this time the two service writers acknowleged that the brake rotors were a weakness on the acura tl and cl, that they serviced about ten cars per week for this, and that they had put new brake rotors on their personal vehicles. 14000 miles later, at 48000 miles, the rotors were warped again, and i persuaded them to replace the rotors with new ones under warranty. (i paid for new pads.) now, 16000 miles later, at 64000 miles, the new rotors have warped. I am a mechanical engineer, and i know how to drive to cause the least amount of heat build up in the rotors, so this is a case of underdesigned rotors.

While braking at high speeds steering wheel vibrated.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

My steering wheel randomly locks while driving. As i was driving down santa teresa my steering wheel locked n caused me to hit a curb and pop my tire.

The vehicle sub-frame is rotting on the passenger side caused by the air conditioner output directly above the frame dripping on it to the point where the car may be unsafe to drive. The frame on the driver side is ok and showing no signs of rust. I feel this is an engineering issue not caused by normal wear and tear. Acura local service and corporate representatives do not disagree with my conclusion but will not offer any repair compensation to have the sub-frame replaced. I discovered it when inspecting the front brakes with the front wheel removed. Otherwise, it would not have been known until a catastrophic frame collapse.they said the frame seemed to be structurally sound at this time but it definitely will need replacement in the near future. They said they found only two other complaints about this but a service person told me it is a common problem with 01 to 04 cl's. Acura told me that because of the vehicle age, no compensation can be offered.i am a loyal acura customer having purchased 4 of their vehicles in the past, the present one a 2015 tlx model. This didn't seem to matter to the acura corporate representative. My hope is that by identifying the above problem, it will help preserve present and future acura buyers and save an accident caused by a frame collapse with loss of steering control. Since it is a safety concern caused by an engineering deficiency, i feel acura should agree to support all or some repair costs and notify current owners of this issue.

Was driving at highway speed."lost" accelerator pedal.coasted to shoulder, stopped car.found that pedal had dropped to floor and connector end of cable was hanging above pedal area.also found that the cable connecting to engine just at edge of cover/housing was missing.car was towed on a flatbed to the nearest repair facility.acura repair part was obtained from nearest dealership and installed.cable showed signs of fraying at point where it broke.technician surmised that it had fatigued and that the break was inside the cable housing.car had been given a comprehensive maintenance and an acura multipoint inspection in march 2011.most recent maintenance was an oil change and multipoint inspection on 10/22/11.

2001 acura cl type-s rear view mirror (self dimming) is leaking a black tar type substance that is eating through the center console of the car.there is a grey type of film in the mirror and objects in the mirror appear doubled.through research i have been able to locate the manufacturer, magna donnelly and websites indicating the fluid is toxic and can lead to health issues.i think that acura should submit a recall and magna donnelly should pay for replacement mirrors.

Rearview mirror (self dimming) on my 2001 acura cl self destructed and spilt some toxic dark this fluid on to the console and leather seats that ate away the material. Manufacturer of these self dimming mirrors is magna donnely and this seems to be a common problem on all acura cl and tl cars from late 90's till 2003. From seeing the number of posts on acurazine blog this is a widespread problem and a safety issue. I am having to drive with a plastic ziplock bag around my rear view mirror and a towel below it. Acura usa has refused to accept any responsibility for this issue because of the age of the car. I think there should have been a recall on these vehicles if this was happening so often. Please see posts at: http://cl.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=488763.

The rear view mirror of my 2001 acura cls started leaking the chemical that allows it to dim.i believe it was because the temperature here in nc has been around 100 degrees for a couple of days.i've read several online forums describing incidents where their mirrors exploded, causing the chemical to spew all over their cars.the chemical eats through leather and plastic, and it can cause adverse effects to one's health if inhaled.the forums have dated back to 2004, one post sited a lawsuit underway (in 2006).i was wondering why there was no recall of this mirror.

Impact with deer, on left side fender, door, and rear quarter panel, broken windshield, broken mirror, which caused $5000 worth of damge, but the left side air bags did not deploy.why?

Consumer sits in driver's seat to it's rear most position, the driver's side power mirror can not be adjusted to be angled outward enough to eliminate dangerous blind spots for vehicles that are close in the adjacent left lane, consumer has come close to collisions due to this blind spot and has mounted another mirror to provide additional view.

Consumer states that the positioning of the 2 outside mirrors is too high, by at least 5-6 inches, when stopped at a stop sign or intersection, there are 2 blind spots, oncoming traffic can not be seen from the left and right.

While driving and looking through side view mirror on passengers side it gives a blind side, driver cannot see. Spoke with acura, was told that it was design of vehicle.

1) approximately 18 months ago, i began noticing an oily/greasy substance on my windshield when i used my window washer cleaner.i assumed it was faulty wipers and replaced these repeatedly over the next 18 months only to have the problem return.2) acura tsb 01004 and nhtsa item number 623220 details the problem...the oil/greasy film being deposited on the windshield is so severe, that it becomes impossible to see out of the windshield; which could potentially result in loss of control of the vehicle and a car crash.3) acura will not make the needed repair since the vehicle is no longer covered under the manufacturers warranty.
