As i was traveling south on i270 around columbus, ohio at approximately 65 mph, the right front tire exploded.luckily i was able to safely maneuver the rv to the shoulder of the road.the tire had a little over 5,000 miles on it.the tire involved is a michelin x 225/70r 19.5 xrv.when the tire exploded, it took out a shield protecting the propane tank.i think the shield also took out two wires connected to the propane take since the wires were ripped from where they belonged.a little more force and the propane tank could have been hit and who knows what would have happened.the wheel as well as the wheel cover were destroyed as well.i have read on the internet that this is not the first incident involving michelin rv tires.this is the reason for writing this complaint.also, i have three other michelin tires on the rv which i purchased at the same time as the one that exploded and quite frankly, i don't feel safe driving it with those tires on there.

Blow out of michelin xrv tire on new motor home.tire data:dot b6h6ak3x1803 255/80r22.510135 miles on tiretire was inflated to 98 psi , motor home was lightly loaded.two ruptures on outside sidewall of tire , one "z" shaped, the other "l" shaped. The holes are approximately 70 degrees apart on either side of the label michelin. In both the z and l shaped holes the smallest tears are circumferential(~2" each) the longest part of the holes are radial (~ 4-5" long).blowout occurred instantaneously (sounded like gun shot) in rush hour traffic on i-64 in louisville ky. Was able to safely stop vehicle on shoulder without damaging rim or any other part of the motor home.my road service (coach net) located a tire company which 3.5 hours and $412 later corrected the problem.

I have michelin xrv tires on my motorhome and recently experienced a blowout even though i maintain my tires perfectly.i understand that this is a common problem on the michelin xrv tires! my tire was a xrv 235/80r22.5. It was almost 5 years old and looked brand new with no cracks and almost no tread wear at all.

All four tire sidewalls failed while driving about 55 mph. Motor home sidewall had azipper rip 18 inches on every tire. Michelin ,xrv, size 255/80r22.5, dot number b6hak3x358.there were no injuries or fatalities to report.after the first failure, michelin stated it was due to under inflation. From that point on inflation was checked before every trip. After the second failure, michelin stated it was due to overloading. After the third and fourth failure, michelin stated overload or under inflation. Michelin changed their original xrv tires and they no longer have problems, however they stated there was no problem with the original. *ph

I have had two blowouts using michelin xrv tires on a 2001 bounder motorhome. The first was at 17000 miles when the inside left dual tire had a blowout causing damage to a storage compartment. The second blowout was to my front drivers side tire causing damage to the wheel cover. The front blowout is the most worrysome, i was barely able to maintain control and get the vehicle into the far right lane and stopped. This is my 4th motorhome and without exception keep my tire pressures checked and inflated prior to any use.i have never had this type problem on any of my vehicles....ever.

While drivingat 60 mph the rear right inside tire blew up. One month later the left rear outside tire blew up. Michelin, xrv, size 235/80r22.5.

Driver's front steer tire blowout. The blowout occurred on the inside sidewall, not visible to inspection. Tire is part of original equipment on a new 2008 itasca, latitude (manufacturer winnebago) 40 foot diesel motor home purchased 2/29/2008.. Motor home has been driven less than 8200 miles.we were traveling on i-95 from exit 29 in ga to exit 8 in sc. Driving at speed limit, 65 and 70 mph in heavy truck traffic. This is less than a 2 hour trip. Approx. 1 pm on 11/8/2010 i had just pulled off of i-95 at exit 8 in sc and was pulling into the bp truck stop on sc 278. Fortunately, i had just slowed down to about 1mph when the tire suddenly exploded. I was able to stop the coach without incident and the tire was intact except of the star patterned hole on the inside sidewall. Fortunately, no one was injured and the motor home was not damaged due to the slow speed. The issue is that my family and i narrowly escaped a certain tragic accident, possibly deadly, that would have badly injured me, my husband and most likely have killed my dogs.as the driver, i am a 60 year old woman and i doubt that i would have been able to control the vehicle at high speed once the tire blew out. I have had the tire examined by a qualified michelin dealer, sos radial tire service in garden city, ga 32418, and they have deemed it to be a blowout not due to under-inflation, exterior damage or puncture. The tire was inflated to 105 psi at the time of the accident. Max recommended inflation is 110 psi. The tires have been protected from sun when parked and have been driven at least every 90 days. I have 7 of this exact tire remaining on the coach.

I drive a 2001 fleetwood 36' expedition, it had about 21,00 miles at this time.on october 20, 2003 i had a r/f steering tire blowouts/e of st. Louis mo. Around 5pm. Had road service put on a used tire. Spent the night in sullivan mo. At a flying-j about 75 miles down the road. The morning of the 21st. I checked all tires for correct pressure. None were found to be low (100psi). Continued trip to springfield, mo. Where after about 130 miles a l/r inside dual blew.these are michelin tires size xrv 235-80r-22.5.the front tire was in shreds and i had no way of hauling it.i like michelin tires and so order 6 new xze tires. They were just put on today.so at this time the dealer has the inside tire wating for the michelin rep. To look at it.the dealer says it looks like a text book case for low tire pressure.i explained to him that i'm meticulous about protecting and safe guarding my m.h..i keep it clean, tire covers on,protected on the tires, tire pressure checked befor trip, during, and headed home. During any long storage some weight is keep on the jacks.i have a friend in florida that has a m.h. Like mine and he has blown 3 of these tires this year also.acording to the dealer, michelin will not warranty this tire, but he will try. Most things i'm reading on the internet are that most people are having the same type of problems with this tire that i have had.seems to be a lot of them and michelin is not responding to its custermers with any kind of satisfaction.also michelin change there chart on this tire from the old (100psi.) which is stamped on the old ones, to (110psi.) which is stamped on the new ones.i called michelin about the time they made this change and the lady i talked to told me that they only made the change to meet standards with the rest of the industry.she also said it was ok to put this pressure in the old (100psi.) tires.thanks garry williams.

My rv has less than 6,000 original miles on it and i bought it brand new with michelin tires 235/80/22.5 in which case i've had to replace 2 tires already because of sidewall cracking.i live in southern california and i take very good care of my motorhome including covering the tires when in storage which is the majority of the time.i've tried to contact michelin for a recall but nothing.each tire is approx. $400-500 and i'm being told i need to replace all six tires.with as low mileage as i drive my rv i am disgusted at the fact that these expensive tires already need replacement.please help....

On may 19, 2008 we purchased 4 newtires from ganin tire in middletown, ny for our motorhome.on may 30 we drove to massachusetts.while the vehicle was parked, my husband noticed cracks in one of the tires.upon checking with our tire information brochure that came with the vehicle, my husband discovered that the tires may, in fact, be 10 years old, although we purchased them 2 weeks ago and the invoice also noted that they were new.while we were in massachusetts. My husband called michelin and they also confirmed that the dot numbers indicated that the tires were built in 1998.as we were driving to get back home to go back to the originating dealer for the tires, the back right tire blew out the inner sidewall.we got off the road and called for roadside assistance.we had to purchase another tire which was installed at the side of the road and then we drove to the nearest michelin dealer.we were told that all tires we dry-rotten, the belt in the tire that failed was rusted and the dealer in massachusetts indicated that all tires were used as the tread depth indicated that the tires were worn way beyond 300 miles (approx 11/32 tread-depth and michelin indicated that new tread depth is 16.4/32). We replaced all tires and we kept all tires that were taken off.we are also contacting michelin management.please note that this was not a failure of a michelin tire, but a failure of the dealer by selling old, used tires as new.

Complaint:unavailability of michelin 235/80r 22.5 xrv tires.these tires are specifically manufactured for class a motor homes.my original tires need to be replaced and i cannot locate these tires for purchase anywhere in the u.s.complaints/questions to michelin have not been answered.tire dealers only know that "they are on back-order".ford has increased the production of class "a" motor homes by over 30% this year and i suspect that the tires being produced by michelin are going to ford and others for new class a's.what about those of us who need new tires from michelin?this particular size of tire is not manufactures by another other vendor as far as i can determine.this presents a serious safety issue as worn older tires cannot be replaced with tires specifically engineered for class a motor homes.

Side wall blow out on michelin xrv 23580r 22.5. Over the last 12 months i have suffered 2 sidewall blow outs on my 2000 allegro bus rv. Travel speed is always less than 65 mph and inflation maintained at 100 psig. One tire failure on driver side steering nearly caused me to loose control and hit the ditch. Second failure occured on passenger side inside dual , which i discoverd during a normal rest break, fortunately before the second tire failed. I have since replaced all remaining tires since i feared for additional safety incidents.

Michelin tires 235/80r-xrv tires...three blowouts, blow away a side panel of motorhome. No response from any manufacturer monaco and/or michelin. Only check your pressures. Well stopping at each and every rest area to check pressures and still experiencing blowouts. In one trip. Want to sell motorhome afraid to drive down to gas station to fuel up to take to dealer to sell. Need to replace all tires and cost $2,000.00. Have owned motorhomes for over 30 years and first time have ever had any problems. I can see how the industry reacts when, just lucky and only luck that no one was injured, including the busy traffic around us as we were on i-75 when all of these occurred.

While driving a 2000 newmar dutch star diesel pusher the right rear inside tire blew out with approximately 29,000 miles on the vehicle. I contacted michelin's consumer call center to inform them that this was the second blowout i experienced on this vehicle, and that both tires had the same manufacturing date code. They responded by asserting that the tire damage must have been caused by low tire pressure. When i maintained that pressure had never been low, they then responded that the tire must have been overloaded. I removed all six michelin tires from this motorhome and replaced them with goodyear tires. I have since driven this vehicle almost 40,000 additional miles without incident. *la

The contact stated that the tires exploded without warning.the vehicle was taken to a local shop where it was diagnosed that the tires were severely cracked. No further assistance was provided.the manufacturer was contacted but the contact was unable to speak to someone in regards to the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 22,000.

While driving at 70 mph, the front left tire blew out.several months later, the same thing happened to the rear right inside tire.on both tires the sidewall ruptured, causing the blow out.

On 15 july 2005 i had a michelin xrv 255/80r22.5 tire sidewall failure on my motorhome. I contacted michelin and reported the failure and told them i was not seeking adjustment because i was going to replace the tires with a different brand. Michelin did not seem a all interested in checking the failed tire, said they had no way of picking it up. This is just one of many sidewall failures on the xrv tire. You can check website www.discoveryowners.com and see that there has been many sidewall failures and this is just on one brand of motorhome. These tires definitely have a sidewall defect. I think this is a major safety concern.

The rear passenger side dual tire blew out while driving.thedealer stated thatthe side wall ripped out.please provide any additional information.*nlm*mr

Multiple tires experienced sidewall blow-out on michelin 255/80 r 22.5 xrv.i have a 2002 fleetwood discovery motorhome which i purchased new.it has just over 17,000 miles on it.to date i have experienced four out of six tire sidewall failures which michelin describes as a "zipper rip".the first blow-out was on the left front on 5/13/2005 @ 15,025 miles.the motorhome was parked in the garage until my most recent trip.on this trip i experienced three more blow-outs within 36 hours of which 11 hours were spent stranded on the side of the road awaiting service and 5 hours sleeping.the second blow-out was the inside left rear which occurred on 10/30/2005 @ 17,133 miles, the third blow-out was the inside right rear which occurred on 10/30/2005 @ 17,483 miles and the fourth blow-out was the outside left rear which occurred on 10/31/2005 @ 17,760 miles.to prevent a loss of vehicle control i rotated the "new replacement" for the right rear (incident #3) to the right front to prevent a front tire failure.each blow-out resulted in damage to my motorhome.i have substantial physical damage to both rear fender skirts and a cargo bin.one instance caused me to go onto the shoulder and hit a mile marker which scratched the passenger side of the coach for several feet.the same incident knocked out my instrumentation on the dash rendering all gauges inoperable.i keep this motorhome in an enclosed garage and am very proficient at maintaining proper tire inflation.after the first incident i weighed my motorhome fully loaded on a cat certified scale to ensure proper load.based on the tire and the motorhome manufacturer's weight restrictions i was within load specifications.i continue to hear numerous reports from fellow rv enthusiasts concerning the xrv and xze tires failing as described.i believe this product to be a potential safety hazard.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 60 mph the front driver tire blew out.the vehicle was moved off the highway where a 14 inch tear was found in the sidewall.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined the wrong air pressure recommended by the manufacturer was weakening the sidewall.the dealer replaced all four tires.

Driving down the highway left rear inside tire blewout.

The vehicle is a class a motor home on a ford f53 chassis, we were traveling north on i75 in ohio at exit 110 when we suffered a side wall blowout. The tire is a michelin 235/80r22.5 xrv, dot b6bjbvjx2206, tire pressure was 100 psi, mileage 30673, the tire was located on the left rear inside position. There were no road hazard marks on the tire or on the outside tire mounted next to it. The service technician indicated the nature of the blowout was unusual. The recent announcement of the michelin bus tire recall due to side wall defects prompted me to report this incident. Photos and supporting information is available.

Zipper blowout on michelin 255 r80 22.5 xrv front right and front left tires at two separate times.first on 7/24/04 hwy i- 64, n.carolina holiday rambler (2000)endeavor 40' tvl speed about 60 mph. Outer sidewall ruptured, 13,302 miles. Second blowout, front left on 8/10/04, hwy i-94, wisconsin, 14,498 miles 60 mph. Confirmed coach within vehicle gvw, tire pressure has been maintained at correct level according to michelin product bulletin rec'd in 2000 (before we began using the vehicle on the road).michelin asked to cover cost of tire replacements.offered to pay for first blowout cost verbally, gave 5 days to accept verbal offer unless we had vehicle weighed on cert. Scale. We requested written notice, michelin rep refused to provide info in writing via their legal dept. And revoked any further consideration over and above initial offer to pay for 1st tire cost this was after we had cert.scale documentation.(we were not overweight.)along with cost of tire replacement, the right wheel panel was blown off, and we will have to pay cost of repair/restoration.

Incident 1: march 2005 traveling on i95 in my 2001 national tradewinds rv, i experienced a blowout of the inside right left tire that blew out the side panel of the motor coach. The tire was changed. We continued home.incident 2: may 2005 purchased a new spare. I noticed a bubble on the inside left rear tire sidewall. While traveling on i95 to the tire shop this tire blew out. Replaced tire.incident 3: december 2005 while traveling through delaware, right rear inner tire blew out the sidewall.all these tires were michelin xrv 225/22.5 with recommended 100psi.at a goodyear store in delaware, we replaced all 4 rear tires and the sparewith goodyear 265/22.5 tires.the reason for the tire size change was that national tradewinds had previously had a tire recall on the front tires. The front tires were replaced with toyo's 265/22.5. This size change was also recommended by the manager of the goodyear store. Take note that the tire installer noticed a bubble on the inside tire wall of the left outer tire. He said it would have failed at any moment!after reading the histories of these failures, something must be done beforesome is seriously injured or killed because of these tire failures!!

Proceding along interstate hwy approximately 65 mph when tire blows. No obstruction in roadway to cause tire failure. Sidewall on tire was split aprox. 8 inches in length.

While driving my 2001 bounder diesel through crestline, oh, i stopped at a traffic light and the right front tire's sidewallblew out.no additional damage was done to the motorhome.i called a roadside service company and had the tire replaced with a new one.the steel in the sidewall at the blowout sight was rusted away.the tire was a michelin 255/80r22.5 xrv, dot b6h6 ak3x2300 with 35,292 miles on it.after arriving home from the trip, i called michelin to inquire about warranty coverage.they referred me to one of several dealers in the area.upon inspection of the tire, i was told michelin would not do anything about the failure, and this is a fairly common failure for this tire.the failure was attributed to either under inflation, over inflation or overloading (take your choice).these are not valid assertions as the tire pressure has been maintained within 5 pounds of michelin's recommended pressures, nor have they been overloaded.i have kept the tire for inspection by anyone who is interested.this tire is advertised as being designed specifically for rv useage.after noticing the inordinate number of complaints both on threads on the internet and on your site, it is obvious they utterly failed in accoumplishing a safe design.this tire is dangerous and should be removed from the highways for everyone's safety.michelins denial of possible defect problems has changed my mind about whether i should support their corporation by buying any of their products in the future.

While traveling on highway 90 i experienced a blowout on the right front tire, on my 2001 coachmen sportcoach motorhome. The tire pressure was verified piror to departing.the tires were michelin 255/80r22.5 xrv. The inner sidewall blewout, commonly referred to as the zipper effect.

The consumer experienced 3 blowouts at around 60 mph with the correct tire pressure.locationed front right inside, and front left inside.mileage was between 18000 and 20285, original equipment.the first tire blew and the front tire was replaced, there was damage in the wheel well fiberglass rim, the second tire blew on the right inside, and the third tire left inside blew caused damage to the vehicle. *sc

Dt:the contact stated three tires onrecreational vehicle blew out from the sidewall.the blow outs occurred over a period of two years.the first tire blew out after approximately 10,000 miles.the other two tires blew out at approximately 22,000 miles.there were no warning signson the tires prior to the failures.the tires were inspected by a tire dealer, and they determined the failure was due to rusting of the steel ply inside the tires.the tires were replaced.the manufacturer has been contacted.updated 03/22/06.

While driving at 25 mph, the consumer heard an explosion and pulled over to the shoulder. Consumer found that the rear inside tire on the vehicleblew out at the sidewall.

We have had 2 blow outs in last 2 trips with our michelin xrv 255/80 22.5. One driver side front and the second trip driver side inside rear. Recall on front tires only? newmar has made a mistake and needs to recall all tires for our motorhome. We have only 15,000.00 miles on our kountry star. Check tire pressure regularly. Definite safety issue. Newmar refuses to take action or help with michelin issue. Recall only for front tires we are told.

We were stuck in traffic during the thanksgiving holiday and was moving very slowly when we heard a loud noise and thouht someone had ran into the back of us.after inspection, we had had a blowout on the left inside rear tire.it had blown out on the top side tearing the duct work to the furnace up. We also noticed on the other, the rear right outside tire had a bubble on it.both were on the sidwalls.after purchasing a used tire to get us home the other tire blow out while sitting at the house the next day.i have made several calls to the manufacture and even sent the tires to them.they said it was a zipper rip and was not covered.the tires only had 16,000 miles on them and were only a year and a half old.the tire pressure was maintained correctly and we had the coach weighed and it was not over loaded and has never been overloaded.this seems to be the excuse they us for everyone instead of excepting the responsibility for a defective product.

While traveling in our 2000 dutch star motor home, diesel pusher, through houston tx, on march 23, 2006, we experienced an inner rear tire blowout on the right side of the vehicle.this tire has a "zipper" fracture of 14 inches on the sidewall.we were able tomake a safe stop and exited from the highway.we had the tire replaced with a matched michelin tire.on april 1, 2006 while traveling through elmira ny (1600 miles later) on interstate 86, we experienced another blowout on the inner rear tire on the left side of the motor home.we were able to make a safe stop.however the rear left fender skirt was blown off by the rupturing tire.this "zipper" fracture was 12 inches in the identical tire position as the first rupture.we were unable to get an identical replacement tire for the blown tire and we made the decision that all four rear tires should be replaced since it is not advisable to have mismatched tires.we replaced these rear tires with an h rated tire by goodyear 275/70r 22.5 g670 rv.in 2004, newmar (manufacturer of dutch star motor homes) had a recall and replaced only the front tires on this motor home which was built on a freightliner frame.the new tires were michelin xza1 275/70r 22.5 which is higher rated than the original equipment tires.previously, we have had this motor home weighed on at a family motor coach assn. (fmce) rally.the four corners were weighed and we were within the recommended gvw (gross vehicle weight) of 27,900 lbs. We were not overloaded.the tire pressure on the original equipment tires was 105 lbs. Each which was recommended.it is our opinion that the tire failure on this unit was due to having inadequate rear tires and that when the recall took place in 2004, the rear tires should have also been replaced at that time.

On 9/28, i had sidewall blow out on motor home.xrv235/80r22.5 and on 10/29 1200 miles later had the same thing happen causing damage of 705 dollars to fierglass fender.both tires carried man pressure according to sidewall of 100psi.i talked to a mich rep and she sounded up beat about taking care of some of the cost.she had said the max pressure should be 10 lbs higher , but i was never notified of this .the tires were 31/2 yrs old with 38k miles/after an inspection, someone called me and ne said no help and really won't listen to me.

On the date below, i had the right front tire blow out on my 1999 newmar dutch star with michelin 255 80r 22.5 tires. The tire pressure was well maintained, the day was fairly warm in montana, and i was driving slowly going up a steep hill when the blowout occurred. I read on an rv forum that this is very common.

I own a 1994 holiday rambler imperial 36 feet motor home. In august of 2000 i purchased 6 new michelin xrv 255/80r22.5 tires. The new tires are marked?dot b6h6 ak3 x 1800?.mileage was about 75,000 miles on the old 235/80r22.5 xzu4 tires, on the rv since new with no problems.1) the first blowout happened only 10 minutes (!) into a trip in november 2003 on a cool rainy sunday afternoon on a highway in ontario driving at highway speeds. The service personnel commented in the large sidewall ?zipper blowout? and pointed out the brown discoloration (rust!) visible . There were 35,800 miles on this tire2) the second ?zipper? blowout occurred on an extremely busy highway in ontario in august 2004 after driving only 10 minutes (!!) into a trip.this tire had 38,000 miles. The blowout caused damage to the fiber glass skirting of the wheel well of the rv3) the third blowout occurred in texas in january 2005there were only 44,000 miles on this xrv tire. Again i saw evidence of brown around the steel cords of the sidewall. I was able to take a number of digital pictures. The fourth blowout occurred on february 5 between phoenix and flagstaff on a clear sunny day after one hour of drivingeverything was within specified limits. The blowout occurred on the outside rear dual tire and was a zipper blowout ? the same as the other three. The steel belts again showed rusty red discoloration at the break area. I have several digital photographs that show the rust color around some of the radial wires.with this fourth blowout of the six tires i purchased, i am extremely anxious to hear from you about what we can do about the obvious problem with the tires .

I have michelin xrv 255 80 22.5 tires.i have 20k miles on the coach.i am meticulous about checking and maintaining proper air pressure and the coach is not overweight.a curb side inside tire blew at 17k miles (a zipper tear on the inside sidewall).i was told i don't maintain pressure and that particular tire always is the one to blow....or i hit something.at 19k miles the inside tire on the street side blew in georgia doing minor damage to the inside fender well (a zipper tear on inside sidewall).again, i was told i am overloading the coach and not maintaining tire pressure.plus, the inside dual tires don't get enough air and run hot causing them to wear out faster.i have weighed the coach and i am under 17k pounds on the rear axle and the tires are rated to 19.2k pounds on the rear axle. On the return trip to pa we stopped for dinner and noticed that an outside rear dual had '3' bubbles on the outside sidewall indicating that bands had broken.i am now afraid to drive the coach, for fear that another blow out (particularly on a steer tire) may cause me to crash.i have done a search on the internet and nhtsa and it appears the michelin xrv tire should be recalled/replaced because there are pretty many people having the same problem as myself.i have also discovered that newmar is replacing the xrv with xza1 tires for their customers.further, my latest replacement michelin tire with a dot date of 0204 has a different maximum air pressure recommendation (110 from 105) and an adjustment to the weight carrying capacity of the tire which would indicate to me that there have been changes/problems regarding this tire. Do a search of the michelin xrv on the internet, read the threads you find and tell me honestly that there is not a problem with this tire.do a search of the goodyear g670....do you know what you'll find, that it is a great replacement for the michelin xrv (and more horror stories related to the xrv).

I have a 2001 bounder diesel motorhome with michelin xrv 255/80r22.5 tires. Within a six month period from april to october 2004, four of the original six tires on the motorhome had blowouts between 27,000 and 33,000 miles. All four blowouts were sidewall failures characterized by a "zipper-rip" on the side of the tire. All blowouts were on rear tires occurring at speeds between 55 and 70 mph. Air pressure is checked regularly at the beginning of the day. Weight of motorhome is well within tire specifications (i had each corner of the motorhome weighed separately).since all tires had a similar type of blowout within a relatively short period, i'm questioning the safety and suitability of the michelin xrv tires for motorhome usage.dot numbers of tires that had blowouts not recorder but dot numbers of the remaining two original equipment tires are b6h6ak3x1700 and b6h6ak3x2000.

My motorhome, a 2001 trade winds had two blowouts at the same time, the right front and the right inside dual at the same time on i-10 near live oak florida.there are 25,000 miles on the tires and this is the second and third blowout.the first occurred at the end of september 2003 and damaged the motorhome.nhtsa should do something about these tires as michelin is the only one that makes them and they are dangerous.
