I purchased 2 brand new michelin pilot sport a/s plus 225/45/zr17 91y for my 2008 lexus is 250 installed as front tires at costco. Before less than 24 hours of installed, and less than 15 miles of use, one of them loose the air pressure, the tpms alert me of low tire, i stop at nearest gas station (about 2 miles from the moment of the tpms alert) and in effect the left front tire was low, i start to inflate the tire and before the tire was completely inflated, a blowout occurred causing an injury in my face.
Vehicle won't hold alignment and when it does it's still wearing out the rear tires at a rate 1/32 per 1,000 miles, it wore out the rear tires in 6,000 miles just lucky that i looked at them when i did. The vehicle has 45,000 miles on it and this is the second set of tires in 6,000 miles.
I need the following us tire retails to be inspected, analyzed, tested and/or whatever governmental procedures need to be taken in order to find out, fine, correct, determine whether or not the tires stocked, manufactured are within federal guidelines requirements for safety and all other technological safety aspects. Please inspect all goodyear, ntb, discount tire, and firestone shops for their stock of known tire defects.
Michelin pilot sport a/s plus are "chunking" rubber separation. I purchased my michelin pilot a/s plus from discount tires in december 2011(34,030 mi). Michelin states a 45k mi warranty on these tires. I've rotated them every 5-6k mi. Right now i've driven on them 22k miles. I went to discount tire (1/27/2014) and they said the front tires are "chunking". You can see tire separation from the layers of rubber. The asst mgr advised me he has seen this with the michelin's pilot a/s plus and they would prorate me for some new tires. To me this is a defect and should be a full replacement at 100% michelin's expenses.please please! investigate these tires.

The tire tread on the michelin pilot sport a/s plus shreds or crumbles.michelin calls it "chunking" and said it was due to the compound used to make the tire.the compound has since been modified.this problem occurred on my girl friend's 2009 mercedes c-series sedan and all four tires were replaced in or about november 2012.i noticed the same problem occurring to the front tires on my mercedes s550 at just over 24,000 miles of use.the tire has a 45,000 tread-wear warranty.the tires were purchased in november 2010.the michelin dealer and michelin acknowledge this is a known problem.the tread splits or cracks at the sipes and falls off, affecting traction and possibly risking a catastrophic failure.michelin said the problem occurs on only certain model vehicles and does not intend a recall.these tires were recommended by michelin for my vehicle, but it appears they may no longer recommend it.they no longer recommend or make them for my girl friend's vehicle.
Drivers rear tire suddenly lost air pressure while on the freeway, went to gas station and while attempting to place air in the tire it blew in my face, inner sidewall separated at seam with 18 inch gash. The tires were on my car less the 5 months & had less than 2,000 miles. Looking at your site i see multiple complaints of same thing happening to others. The tire is not available nation wide and per michelin customer service on back order with no production date available. I have 3 more of these tires on my car and do not feel safe driving on these tires after reviewing the complaints on your site.
Michelin pilot sport as plus are starting to fall apart in the tread area. Michelin tire salesman informed me that they were "chunking" a condition that has been noted on cars brought in for evaluation of the tires.tires are actually falling apart in the tread area and could lead to premature blowouts or massive change of balance which can result in loss of life if being driven by an unsuspecting driver.i have reported this to michelin and they tell me there is no defect in the tire, but if i want to change the tires out, i have to pay for the amount of wear.wear varies now across these tires since they are loosing rubber in the tread area thus shortening the life of the tire.these tires are a real safety concern.
Leaving williamsburg va on i64 for newport news 6-21-2010 at 4:30 pm the right rear tire explosively failed. The car was stopped and brought to the shoulder. Before this the traction control light would come on at times. The pavement was dry, the temperature was 80-99f. The blow out looked to be caused by the rim spinning in the tire and the ply stock delaminating from the bead, then the side wall split. There was several ounces of ground rubber in the tire when removed from the rim. The tires had the pressure checked the week before when the right front tire developed a slow leak and was replaced. The tires were returned to the purchase location and replaced due to road hazards. The tires were purchased in january.the tires are michlien pilot sport a/s plus, 225/50zr16 92y dir bsw. The car is a mercedes sl500 1995.i have photographs of the damaged tire. Retailer kept tire to be reimbursed.
I have michelin pilot sport a/s225/40 zr dot number 4mcr 002x4310 on my 2006 lexus is 350. I had the first set installed in april 2, 2009 at 24k miles as replacement to my original tires.by april 09 2011 i had to get the tires replace because of chunking, large chunks had come off ateither side of the center line. I have the same tires in the back albeit slightly widerwith no problems, feb. 09, 2011 at 47k miles the tires were replaced with the same brand and model for asthetic purposes and performance behavioron. At 57k miles march 2012 i noticed the tires exhibiting the same chunking. I went to costco were i purchased the tires and i was told that michelin says it is common and does not affect the performance of the tire, the chunks depth are over a 1/4 of an inch deep almost to the belt. This is an accident waiting to happen.
All four tires are disintegrating after 28k miles.they are warrantied for 45k.i do not drive on gravel nor do i drive in an unsafe manner.
Michelinpilot sport a/s 3 dot: b9n) 11rx 3213these tires have to be defected!!!! with no warning, the pilot sport a/s 3 tire just blew! bam car pulled hard to the side of the flat tire and driver steered over to the shoulder of i95 the tire's threads completely separated from both the inner & outer walls of the tire. The rim was still holding onto a thin strip of the circumference of the tire- where the rim and tire connect.a week prior to the incidence the car had the 40k service including tires rotation. Nitrogen air was at the correct inflation level as well.and the day prior to the blow out. New breaks were installed and all the tires and alignment were checked again-- with no problems to be found. Just pulling out of a service station that inspected the tires to note only minor wear. Low miles on the tires and not hitting anything to cause a flat= something wrong not right with the construction of this tire.tires were: 6 months old, from costco, with about 5,000 miles tops. The dot code states that it was a 2013 tire. Those little tire nubs haven't even had a chance to wear down yet.please look into theses tires!! i go to costco tomorrow for a replacement. I am afraid that these are defected tires and i have 3 more on the car. I will keep the shredded tire in case it is needed for investigation purposes.

On march 2nd 2007 around 10:30am i was driving my 2003 bmw m3 east bound on interstate 40 from chapel hill nc to raleigh nc. Approaching exit 292 my rear tire which was a michelin pilot sport size 255/35zr ripped on each sidewall inner and outer. The center of tire came completely separated while the outer of the tire was still connected to the inner and outer of the rear left tire. From what i can tell the tire simply shredded on the inner and outer sidewall causing me to swerve, gain control of car and pull over on the shoulder. The car was towed to performance bmw in chapel hill. I am expected there to be rim damage as well. At this point and time nothing has been done to correct the failure. Bmw advised me that they will not be able to look at the car until monday. I will keep all paperwork.
