The incident occurred just after merging onto the inner-loop 495 north-bound from west-bound highway 50, between highway 50 and 66, in fairfax, virginia. During the merge, i accelerated my vehicle to equal to the speed of traffic while maintaining my position in the on/off-lane used for the 50/60 merger. Because i was continuing north-bound on 495 towards tyson's corner, i started procedures to exit the 66 on-lane and merge into north-bound 495 traffic. These procedures included checking both my side and rear-view mirrors as well as my blind spots. Needless to say, during the procedures my eyes were routinely forward to check on forward traffic. Between my mirror and blind spot checks, i noticed that i was quickly approaching a massive pothole that laid directly in the path of my forward progression. I estimate the pothole size being two feet in length, one foot in width, and one foot in depth (i have pictures). Although i attempted to avoid the pothole, at around 60mph, in the rain, with a guard rail to my right and traffic to my left, there was very little i could do to avoid it without risking my life, my passenger's life, and lives of fellow commuters. I hit the pothole. The impact was so sever it not only bent my front, passenger's side wheel and ripped a quarter-size gaping hole in my tire, it deployed all my passenger's side airbags and possibly ruined my suspension. At the time of impact, my passenger was leaning against the arm-rests and the window directly on the airbag deployment path. His arm, face, and hearing were injured during the incident. I allowed the car to slow down to safe speeds by releasing the accelerator. Once at safe speeds, i continued to an emergency exit pullout where i awaited police and a towing vehicle. After speaking with the police, a vdot emergency vehicle pulled up and offered assistance. He later informed me that the pothole had been previously addressed and should have fixed well before the time of my incident.

I was driving at 70 mph on interstate when blowout occurred on michelin pilot sport ps2 tire with only 11,000 miles on tires. The left front tire blew. The tires had been well maintained by rotating and balancing every 3,500 miles and tire inflation properly maintained. The weather was clear and dry. I had been driving for about 2.5 hours when the incident occurred. I was able to steer the car to the emergency laneand call for assistance to change tire to spare. Upon examination, the inside edge of the tire the steel belt came through the tire and caused blowout. The outside edge of tire did not show the wear that the inside edge showed and had not been readily noticeable upon visual inspection earlier in the day. The tires had just been rotated, balanced and aligned 1 month prior and there was a notation to monitor the tread bar as the front tires were wearing faster than the back tires (the car is all wheel drive). I had been doing a visual inspection of the tires each time i got in the car and had not noticed that the inside edge of the left front tire was wearing unevenly from the outside edge. The aaa employee who removed the tire stated that he believed that air leaked out through the steel and caused the blowout. The car has tire pressure monitoring system however never showed tire pressure loss until the blowout occurred.

We purchased a new set of michelin pilot sport 2 tires at costco in poway, ca on 10/8/07 for my wife's mercedes. After just less than six months and under 6,800 miles, we noticed her left tire was low. Suspecting she had picked up a nail or such, we fully inflated the tire and drove the three miles to costco. The representative there, patrick, called me to say it was a nail but it had damaged the sidewall and the tire could not be repaired. When i went back to the tire center, patrick's supervisor, william kennison, insisted that six months and 6800 miles were perfectly normal life expectancy numbers for high performance tires. He informed me there was over 75% of the tread on the front tires (different size than the rears 225/45r17 vs. 245/40r17) but only 38% on the left rear and 0% on the right rear. I never saw the right rear tire. His manager, herb, was off duty but was supposed to call me on monday to discuss my dissatisfaction. He never called. I paid $379 and change and left with a new pair of rear tires. My wife will be 56 next week. She is a nurse practitioner and primarily drives this car to work and our daughter's school. It has been on three road trips to ucla from san diego since we bought new tires in october. There is nothing unusual or aggressive in my wife's driving style and the factory tires lasted 40,075 miles. Clearly, these tires came from a bad batch and should have been recalled. Had we not had a low tire the consequences might have been much worse. I have notified costco and michelin. Costco invoice #007750053220 dated 10/08/2007. Membership #111760783421. Barry lovell.

During scheduled tire rotation at sears auto shop, it was discovered that a large piece (approximately 1 inch in diameter) of the tire was missing. The missing piece was from the part of the tire that makes contact with the street.the sears manager, informed me that the tire is unsafe to re-installed.he also stated that it was a defective and offered to replace it at 30% of the current price.

Tires uneven wear.

The contact owns a 2008 bmw 535i with michelin pilot sport ps2 run flat tires, size 275/35/r18. The contact stated that the center of both rear tires was worn to the point where the chord was visible. There were no failures with the front tires. The alignment was tested but no failures were found. There were no repairs to the vehicle. The dot number was unavailable. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Hi,i purchased a pair of michelin ps2 high performance tires for $600 from tirerack.com and noticed that the lateral tread / groves are blocked with excess rubber throughout both tires. They were installed on 12/06/2008. I received documentation from another tire manufacturer that states the lateral groves play an important function to disperse water to minimize hydroplaning. Currently, tirerack denies my claim for an exchange. I contacted michelin and they referred me back to tirerack.http://www.yokohamatire.com/customer_service/construction_tread.aspxthe blockage is difficult to remove and would require me to use a sharp utility knife to my tires. I am not sure what michelin would say if they knew i took a knife to my tires. Tirerack so far has denied my request for an exchange claiming the problem is cosmetic and would go away. I differ because the problem blocks a functional safety and performance area of the tire and prevents its ability to disperse water.tirerack's written warranty policy states that they would work with me and the manufacturer to resolve a claim. This has not happened according to my knowledge. I have even submitted a video and pictures.i am submitting this complaint because as a consumer who paid a premium for the most expensive and highest performance tires available, i would like to have the piece of mind that they will not fail... And when it comes to safety, a consumer should not have to contemplate if, when or the likelihood an accident would occur - even if one perceives the likelihood to be low. I'd rather not take that chance and it only takes one event to change someone(s) life forever. I therefore feel that tirerack has delayed this issue for over a month and has no regard for my safety or the safety of pedestrians on the road by making a swift exchange. Tirerack has so far only shown signs of only wanting to make money irregardless of safety.please follow up on my concerns.

Purchased new michelin sport tires dot gudl 275/35 zr 18 on11/3/2010 and found out that the manufacturing date was 1107. These tires were over 3 years old and should have not been sold as new.the tire dealer accepted my complaint and replaced them with 0909 tires.the old ones were being returned to the distributor but i have no way of knowing if they are going to be resold or destroyed.shouldn't there be guidelines making sure 3 yr old tires are destroyed and not sold as new?

Michelin tires. Customer states that she brought 4 tires and after 4 months she noticed the the front passenger tire had a bubble on the side wall**ccupdated 04/12/07

I have a 2001 porsche 911 turbo.on it, i have ps2 tires from michelin.both of my rear tires have split on the inner sidewall, necessitating replacement.the tires obviously would hold no air when this happened.fortunately, i was not driving fast when either tire failed, but this is most definitely a safety issue.the tire sizes are 315/19/25 zr rated and cost almost $500 each.from my reading and posting on 6speedonline.com, i know that this is not a problem that has happened just to me.
