Michelin latitude tour tires size 265/60r18 original equipment mounted on a 2013 jeep grand cherokee.at 20,000 miles all four tires are experiencing tread separation and chunks of tread falling out.tires need to be replaced

Left front tire(michelin latitude 165/60r18) blew out while driving highway speeds on friday, jan 28,2011.

While traveling in vehicle at highway speed, vibration was noticed by occupants, and they commented to each other about it, as the vehicle had driven normally (no vibration) all day. Operator checked gage cluster for any warning lights, and none were illuminated. Soon after, the steering wheel began to shimmy drastically. Operator stated also that at about this time, an observation was made that the low air light on the gage cluster illuminated. While maneuvering to the left, a catastrophic failure (blowout) of the left front tire occurred. A loud bang was heard, and the tread that was still on the tire rim caused major damage to the left front end of the vehicle.vehicle was maneuvered to the left shoulder of the highway and stopped, occupants were not injured, nor was any other vehicle or person involved with the incident. Potential serious injury of occupants was avoided during the failure of the tire by the actions of the operator to maneuver and bring the damaged vehicle to a stop.no debris was run over during the course of the day, and that until just before the incident; nothing was out of the ordinary with how the vehicle was working. It is speculated that the left front tire of the vehicle started to de-tread as the vibration felt within the vehicle was experienced.when the wheel started to shimmy, the outer tread may have been all but delaminated from the interior core of the tire, and upon turning left, caused the floating tread to come off center from the tire, and finally shred apart destroying the components of the vehicle surrounding the immediate area of the failed tire. The tires on the vehicle have been driven 35217 miles, and treads all are evenly worn and although not measured, seem to be more than adequate depth wise. Close inspection of the tires does seem to indicate that there may be minor dry rotting occurring on the side wall of the tires.

The contact owns a 2007 dodge nitro. The vehicle had michelin latitude tour tires, tire size 220/75r16. The dot number was b3dw002x2008. The contact noticed that the front tires exhibited a significant amount of chipping rubber. The vehicle was taken to a tire center where the front passenger and driver side tires were replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.updated 06/16/11*ljupdated 06/27/11

I bought a grand cherokee limited with michelin latitude tour tires on it. At 24,900 miles i noticed a bulge in one tire upon inspection of the other tires i had another tire with a bulge in it. The vin of the vehicle is [xxx] the dot of the tires are ap5e 00bx 3814. I carried it to the jeep dealer and they sent me to a michelin dealer. The person at the michelin just looked at the tire and said it was a impact bulge and that michelin would not cover that on warranty. I took it to another michelin dealer and he said he would have to take the tire off the rim to determine the problem. I contacted michelin and they were willing to help out on the tires whether it was under warranty or not. That tells me they know there is a problem with the tires and they want to keep it quite by trying to satisfy the customer so they don't report them. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle with these tires. I will not put my life or my wife's life in danger because of these tires. These tires will blow it is just a matter of time. I worked in a tire factory for 25 years and i have never seen an impact bulge. I have cut up and analyzed thousands of tires and no impact caused these bulges.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My vehicle was originally equipped with michelin latitude tour 255/60r19 tires.at just over 16,000 miles i noticed cracks in the sidewalls.at 20,000 miles a representative from michelin assured me that it was not a concern.at 22,000 miles i presented the vehicle to the selling dealer and was provided with a service bulletin which stated that the stance of the manufacturer was that the condition was only incidental environmental damage and posed no safety concern.since that time, i have contacted both the tire and vehicle manufacturers with no resolution.i can provide case numbers and emails.the tire manufacturer has issued a recall for this model tire but they tell me that the numerical run of my tires is not included. Possibly the scope of the recall is too narrow.my contention is that this is a defective product and a major safety concern for myself, my family, and other motorists.because the condition has worsened so much in so few miles, i feel that michelin and general motors need to address the problem immediately.the tires should be replaced under warranty, not at the pro-rate policy now in place.any assistance with this situation would be greatly appreciatedthank you

I purchased 4 michelin tires from sears in july of 2013.in september of 2014 i took my car for its normal oil change and my mechanic told me i needed new tires.i looked at him strangely and told him i just purchased the ties last year.he then instructed me to go back to where i purchased the tires and tell them that the tires were defective because chunks of the treads were separating from the tires. I took my tires to sears and upon inspection they decided that the tires were defective and they replaced only two tires.i explained to them that i believed there were problems with all four and i wanted all tires changed but they decided to only change two.here we are in november of 2015 and the sam issue is happening again.i called michelin and they told me there are no recalls on the tires but i find it hard to believe that this is not happening to others.also when i asked them to provide me with somewhere i can file a complaint they refused to give me any information.

Michelin latitude tour all season tires had significant cracking all the way around the circumference of the tire on the sidewall near the tread.tires were 2 years old.some superficial cracks others were deep and wide.65,000 mile warranty, only 25,000 miles on the tires.size p245/65r17 105t orwl.all four tires had significant damage.

2007 honda odyssey (touring) and michelin pax tires.the premature wear and limited service availability of the pax tires makes this vehicle unsafe for highway driving.a suit was pushed through federal district court (maryland) on this and provided no viable relief to the situation.it favored the attorneys involved in filing the suit.the issue of practicality of these tires is now clear since michelin has now terminated the pax line from new vehicles, thus in time the current limited durability will be further degraded by the age of existing pax tires to service the vehicles which were fitted for this "revolutionary" design.i experienced a premature catastrophic failure of one of my tires and had to struggle (out of state) to find a honda dealer with the equipment to replace the tire.if you have a need on a friday night you will be marooned until the next business week to find a michelin or honda dealer with the expensive equipment necessary to replace a tire needing replacement.thus creating a safety issue if my wife and young child are on the open road and stuck somewhere.neither honda or michelin are standing behind this product.the van is great except the tire system.i cannot find a local honda dealer willing to confront honda on swapping tire systems.the closest one is in cleveland, oh (i live in great falls, va).online research clearly identifies there is a problem but neither honda or michelin are developing a reasonable remedy.your tire page does not list the michelin tire i have.my michelin is 235-710r460a 104t.

2 years ago i purchased 4 michelin latitude tires (65,000 mile tires) for my 2006 mercury montego. On wednesday (9-25-13) i went to the dealer (discount tires) for a tire rotation. I was told the rotation could not be done because the tires were unsafe. The dealers description was a cracking issue. What really has happened is the rubber thread is coming off the core of all 4 tires (24,000 miles). Because of this unsafe condition, i purchased 4 new tires and the dealer adjusted the price based on thread wear. As a consumer i should not have to pay for an unsafe manufacturing defect. I noticed that michelin has previously recalled the latitude tires for suv's and small trucks. I think this should be recalled for passenger cars since this is an unsafe situation and has occurred on all 4 of my tires.

Michelin tire on vehicle completely blew out that almost caused a crash, tire tore completely around the outer part. Vehicle was traveling about 70 mph on interstate when blowout occurred.

The contact owns a 2011 chevrolet equinox equipped with michelin, tire line:latitude tour, tire size: 235 55r/18 tires. Dot# m33j007x2510. The contact stated that all four tires had experienced tire separation. In addition, the contact stated that the front driver side tire had exposed fabric from the separation. The dealer was notified of the failure however, it was unknown if the tires were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet equinox equipped with michelin latitude tour tires, size p255/65r/17. The contact stated that the tire pressure warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rear passenger side tire had multiple holes on the sidewall. The contact replaced the tire but the failure recurred. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 13t006000 (tires) that could have been related to the failure but did not include the tire size of the specific tires. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The tires were replaced. The approximate failure mileage of the tires and vehicle was 6,000.

The contact owns a 2010 lexus rx350 equipped with michelin latitude tour tires, size: p235/55 r19 (na).the contact stated that the tire warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the tire pressure was low on all four tires. The failure recurred on multiple occasions.the dot number was unavailable. The sidewalls are cracking and peeling off of these tires.my car was purchased in july 2007 and these are the original tires.i only have 23,000 miles on the car.

Michelin latitude tires p265/70 r17 bought sept. 2011 from costco in inglewood calif. The tread surface is peeling from the tire. There are small crater like areas where the tread has crumbled away. The latitude tire was advertised as; "latitude tour tires use a silica-based tread compound molded into a symmetric tread design". I went to costco to see if they would warranty the tire. At first they told me the deterioration of the tire thread was due to the surface that i drove on. After i assured the costco service tech that i drive on the streets and highway, not off road, he said he would only prorate the tire value based on the thread use. That turned out to be 50 percent of on a new set of tires.

My wife was driving my 2013 chevy equinox back to pennsylvania and she had a blow out on interstate 80 in new jersey.i had to pay $165.00 to have my truck towed off the high way.she put the donut on and continued driving to pennsylvania.she got the tire replaced another $205.00.the guy at the tire place gave her the tire back and suggested we file a complaint because he didn't understand how it happened.the side wall had a big hole in it.

Tires were purchased sept. 25, 2009 and now have extensive weather cracking. Costco refused to replace the tires when i reported the quality defect in august, 2014, just 59 months after purchase. I have appealed that decision and expect to find out tomorrow if they will make good on the defective tires. They claim that although there is weather cracking that the tires are safe. I doubt they would use cracked tires like that on the vehicle carrying their own family.

Purchased a 2011 buick enclave with michelin latitude tour p255/60r19 108s, 2 months after purchase warning light comes on about tire pressure being low. Tires were inspected and all 4 tires were noted to have severe sidewall cracking.. After searching found theses tires had a recall in 2013 for the same reasons but michelin states these tires were produced before then and is not covered under the recall. Was told by michelin tire dealer these tires were unsafe and had to be replaced but michelin refuses to cover the cost

Michelin tire on vehicle completely blew out that almost caused a crash. Tire tore completely around the outer part. Vehicle was traveling about 70 mph on interstate when blowout occurred.

Purchased 2010 buick enclave june 26, 2010.this vehicle is equipped with michelin latitude tour tires which run $270 + per tire.at 9700 miles a rear tire went flat due to a puncture in the outside rim.at 9980 miles the other rear tire went flat (jan 5 2011).had to put the 100 mile spare tire on 2nd flat because these tires were out of stock in se michigan and expected delivery date was 1/21/2011.went to dealer (sellers in farmington hills) and they located 1 tire and replaced it on 1/6 with another michelin/ original tires.never had this happen to me before and didn't hit any pot holes etc. Since i had purchased an insurance policy on tires and rims these were replaced free of charge.however, on the 2nd incident i believe because of the timing being so close to the first tire issue, sellers had to put something in the description to get the insurance to cover the tire.they asked me if it was ok to put in that i hit a pot hole which i agreed to however when i got the invoice it said i had hit a large pot hole.since this did not set well with me i went on line this weekend to find what others are saying or experiencing.there are alot of reports out there on the internet about this tire and its problems. I do not feel comfortable taking this car long distances.as far as any other tires going i will insist that they be replaced with any brand.i saw one case where the person lost control of the car in a blow out luckily he was ok.these tires do not do well on snow either.please investigate.

The tread is separating from the tire on all four tires.there is about 30k on the tires which have a 70k mile warranty. The same tire although different size are recalled for the same issue.

The contact owns a 2010 chevrolet equinox equipped with michelin, tire line: latitude tour, and tire size: p235/55r18 tires.the contact stated that there was tread separation from both rear tires. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate vehicle and tire failure mileage was 54,000.the dot number was not available. The vin was not available.

Tire failure/blowout.. Tire under 3 years old.

Bought 4 michelin latitude tour hp tires in oct 2011 for our 2004 chrysler pacifica awd.the car came with michelin tires without any problems. So we wanted the same type tire for replacements.tire id # b9h2xkwx1910-----1 tire dot# b9h2xkwx1911-----2 tires # b9h2wkwx2211----1 tiresize 235/65zr17part # 3380955,000 mile warrantytires were rotated every 3,000 milesafter the july 2013tire rotation the tires began a woop woop sound at all speeds. Sound very noticeable.tires again rotated and rebalanced(with no change) 2 months later and they still have this sound.have had the car back to the tire dealer several times for more rotations and balancing( no change needed) with out any resolution to the problem. Tires are still on the car with only11,000 miles on the tires since purchase.

Michelin latitude tour hp 235/50r18 tires on 2011 buick regal. Tires replaced november 2014 and wore down to 4/32 tread on dec 19,2016. Tire was rated for 55,000 mile wear. Lack of tread contributed to accident on that date. Car was unable to stop, sliding into the curb causing $4200 in damage even though accident was at low speed. Michelin will not replace tires. Car currently being repaired. Damage to wheels, suspension, steering gear..

A second michelin latitude tour tire on 2013 gmc terrain (purchased new in may 2013) had repetitive low tire pressure showing on the tpms.after 1 week ofinflating to spec pressure and only have it happen again, removed the wheel and tire to inspect for an embedded object (e.g. Nail) in the entire tread area and sidewall.nothing visible.replaced and inflated to spec again.2 days later low pressure again.removed the wheel/tire from the vehicle again and mixed a soap solution to inspect the tread area for a leak.after thoroughly inspecting the entire tread area twice, noticed a slow leak bubbling on the sidewall at the tread-sidewall interface (tire mold seam?).probed the leak site for embedded glass or object and found nothing representative of a road hazard event except the air leak in the sidewall.plugged the leak with a tire plug to show location and took it to the dealer.a tire with leak in the sidewall even plugged is too dangerous to drive on.i am waiting for a new tire.

We purchased a new 2011 ford edge in february of 2011.we had driven it less than 41,000 miles when we encountered a problem with one tire. As we were driving we were alerted that the air pressure was low on our tire.we added air and had driven less than 10 miles when the low air pressure warning came on again.we drove to walmart to get the tire repaired.it had a split on the inside of the tire, near the lettering. The split was not along the curve of the tire, it is an "up and down"tear. We were told they could not repair the tire because of where the split had occurred.like i said, it was on the inside of the tire, so it could not have been damaged by hitting a curb or something hitting it. The tires have very little wear on them, but we replaced all of them anyway.we feel this tire was faulty and we would regret not replacing them if one would blow out and cause a deadly accident.we kept the tires in case there is a recall on them.this was definitely not normal wear and tear! if i were a tire manufacturer, i would definitely be checking on this matter right now. As i said, the tires are themichelin latitude tour, p245/60/18. The other numbers from the tire are ap4a damx 3110,wj2b6a06-5868201.if you need more information, please contact us.

We purchased a 2010 gmc terrain in august of 2012.the vehicle had michelin latitude tour tires size 235-55/r18. On saturday, april 13th while getting an oil change, the technician pointed out to us that all four tires were splitting on the sides and that it was a very dangerous situation.we did not drive the car the rest of that day and the next day.on monday we took the car back to the dealer where they confirmed that indeed the tires were splitting on the sides.the car has approximately 55k miles on it and according to michelin, the tires are warranted as a 65k mile tire. We purchased new tires at the dealership but feel strongly that these tires are defective and should be reported before someone has an awful accident because of them. I checked for recalls but did not find any. I called michelin who in turn called the dealership.the maintenance manager at the dealership told the michelin representative about the tires and the michelin representative said there was nothing they could do.i was in the manager's office during that phone conversation.i believe it is extremely urgent to take a look into this.i have photographs of the tires and i'm keeping the tires so that they can not be sold to anyone else.the tread on the tires is very good so it is obvious that this defect is not related to normal wear.please contact me so that i can send the pictures or whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of those that may have these tires on their vehicle. These tires may begin to have the same problems after 50k miles and they may not be as fortunate as we were.thanks so much,

Tire sidewall split and failed abruptly while traveling at approximately 45 mph.tire was properly inflated prior to the failure.there are no signs of wear or damage on the sidewall except for the split. My car has 4 michelin latitude tour hp tire size p225/60r17and tin codedot edxhn2wx4907.i had one tire replaced because it developed air loss with time. My infinity ex35 had the light for tire pressure loss on . After this incident we re-pressurized the tire with the car?s placard specifications. Two (2) months later the light for pressure of the tire turned on again. We pressurized the tire again. Then after a week the light turned on again. We pressurized the tire again and then the next day we had a flat tire. I decided to take it to the dealer and had it replaced for another brand. After this incident the light of the pressure monitor system came on again after 2 weeks. Because of this problem we strongly believe we are having the same air loss problem with one of the other 3 michelin latitude tour tires installed in the car. We noticed 2 weeks ago that there was a recall on the michelin latitude tour line that covers various sizes and tin codes, however, the size and tin code on my michelin tires were not covered on the recall. The nhtsa campaign number is 13t006000 for this recall.i strongly believe that the manufacturer ?michelin north america? is under recall, and think more sizes of the same tire line ?latitude tour? should be included in the tire recall after reviewing several complains of the same tire brand and model. I strongly believe my tires are having and experiencing the same air loss problem due to sidewall perforation that the michelin recall reported.we think the problem reaches out to other sizes of the same type of tire that were not covered under this recall. Please conduct or initiate an investigation to whether or no the recall should be expanded to other tire sizes of the same michellin latitude tire line. There can be potentially other tires out there with the same problem as people has described on other comments for the same latitude tour michelin tires. We also noticed that there are other complaints in this website.

2009 michelin latitude tour all season luxury tires p265/70r16 were purchased at costco 12/16/09. We went to our mechanic on 2/17/15 for a vibration problem on front end of our 1998 toyota 4-runner. After inspection he informed us that our tires were cracked on side wall. In addition the road force balance test shows severe runout on front tires and we should replace all 4 tires. We have only put 18,000 miles on these tires. My tires don't fall under the recalls but this doesn't seem right for that kind of failure to occur with such low milage.

Is this on ongoing problem? hopefully nobody will die before something is done in line of recall?how can i feel save knowing that this tires are week in the sidewalls due to defect and not due to outer impact?many people stated they are afraid of driving onthe interstates or long distance due to the same problem. Many people had blowouts, etc.i request an immediate safety recall before something bad happens.

The contact owns a 2007 ford expedition equipped with michelin latitude tour, size: p265/60/r18 (na). The contact stated that all four tires displayed perforations in the sidewall. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where it was confirmed that there were perforations on the sidewall of the tires and, as a result, the tires needed to be replaced. The tires were not replaced. The dot number was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13t006000 (tires). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dot number and vin were unknown. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 100,000 and the tire failure mileage was 20,000.

Michelin tire on vehicle completely blew out that almost caused a crash. Tire tore completely around the outer part. Vehicle was traveling about 70 mph on interstate when blowout occurred.

Tire failure/blowout.. Tire under 3 years old.

2016 chevrolet equinox, michelin latitude tour 17" p225/65r17 100t left rear tire had a major blowout on the exterior sidewall after being driven less than 500 miles -- total. All tires were brand new, properly inflated and maintained. No nail or obvious puncture point was found. Vehicle was being driven 55 mph on an interstate in clear weather. Temperature was about 70 degrees. Blowout occurred during 10-minute drive over smooth, paved road. Immediately before blowout, warning light appeared on dash about low tire pressure. Dealership replaced for free.
