Michelin cross terrain tires have developed sidewall cracks in all 4 tires.the tires have 23,750 miles on them. They are original equipment tires on 2006 gmc envoy.they were taken to the authorized michelin tire dealer for inspection where they did acknowledge the cracks.they in turn called michelin who supposedly authorized a 55% credit towards a new set of tires.if michelin also acknowledges the defect, then these tires should be recalled and replaced.

Two complaints.1) transmission downshifts hard when slowing, such as for a stop sign. Mercury says it is a software problem.they are aware of the problem but won't fix it under the extended warranty.my vehicle has 37,700 miles.2) extreme wire wear.it came with michlin tires and i have gotten far less than 20,000 miles out of them.i am now replacing with bridgestone.i don't know if it is the tire or something defective with the vehicle.the dealership lied to me when i took it in for them to check.the michlins are wearing in the center of the tread and the dealership told me that it was because i had 45 pounds in the tires.i am very concerned about all aspects of upkeep of my vehicle.it calls for 32 psi front and rear.the tires are always within a couple of pounds of that figure.granted the wear does look like overinflation.something is wrong with the tire or the vehicle.i have made sure the alignment is right on and it does alighn properly so i tendto believe it is the michlin cross terrian 235x65x18tires.other than the trans which the dealership advises will be fixed with a software upgrade and the tire problem, everything else is very satisfactory with the vehicle.

Michelin cross terrain with < 39k miles on 2008 volvo xc90 had a tread separation at interstate highway speed during busy downtown traffic nearly creating an accident for me and two of my children.vehicle damage caused solely by the tire flailing the right rear of my vehicle exceeded $3500.tread completely separated from the steel belts as a continuous ring.tread lugs can be pulled away by hand from the lower rubber they appear to be bonded to and this underneath ring of rubber had very cleanly pulled away from the belts.tire remained inflated.evidence of impending failure was noted as i was feeling vibration from the tire for 30 minutes prior to catastrophic failure and had even stopped to inspect the wheel for a probable cause.photo documentation available.internet searching is clearly showing that, for this model tire, this is a common occurrence.does anybody remember the over 250 deaths attributed to the tread separation of bridgestone tires on ford explorers?i do.

While driving home from work last week i noticed a slight 'bumping' feel like an unbalanced tire, so i took a look when i got to my driveway but found nothing. The next day on my way to work the "bumping' was much worse so i stopped to check and found a large bulge on the tread of the right front tire. After slowly returning home i removed it and set it aside. A few hours later the threads were separating badly so i let the air out before it blew apart. I ordered a replacement tire (different brand) but i've still got three more of these on the vehicle .they have 36k miles on them and a 60k warranty with only modest thread wear but i still check them every day. I don't feel safe.*dtconsumer stated he still has a defective tire.

While driving my jeep grand cherokee on the interstate at 70 mph, the low tire warning light came on.less than a mile later, my left rear tire blew and the wheel cut into the tire effectively destroying the tire.all that was left of the tire was a rubber band around the wheel and 25% of one sidewall.the remaining rubber pieces were strewn across the interstate.luckily, i was driving down a straight stretch of road with no vehicle traffic close, so i was able to get my vehicle safely to the road shoulder.if this incident had occurred on a steep curve, in heavy traffic, etc,the incident could have created a dangerous, even life-threatening, situation.when the tire fell apart, it damaged my side panel, rear fender, and blew of my bumper.i put on the spare, tied on my bumper, and drove to the tire store where these tires had been purchased a couple of years prior.the tires had 40,000 miles on them.they are warranted for 65,000 miles.the tire store mailed the damaged tire to michelin for their analysis.i was surprised when i was told by a rep at this tire store that michelin no longer made this particular tire because, as he understood it, they had known quality issues with it.michelin examined and ascertained that the tire was a "run flat" and therefore they did not cover either the replacement of the tire or the $1800+ of damage. While glad to be alive and uninjured, i am shocked and very, very disappointed in michelin's response.
