Consumer experienced a left front tire blow out 18 months after purchase.the dealer replaced the tire and no cost to the consumer.the next time the right front tire blew.the blow out was between the tire tread and the rim.*lathe dealer determined that the second tire blowout was caused by a small puncture which allow air to slowly leak from the tire.

I purchased brand new michelin defender tires three weeks ago from a michelin certified auto repair shop.today we had a catastrophic blow out...consistent with a manufacturer defect.we were driving less than one mile from our home, on a clear day, with no pot holes, or obstacles in the road. We did not hit or run over anything. We were driving less than 30 miles per hour...on a clear city street in virginia.the car immediately began to violently shake....it was obvious the tire hada catastrophic failure. We went across the street to merchants tire and auto.the tire had four blow out holes on every single side of this tire. This tire is only 3 weeks old. It has less than 200 miles on it.michelin refused to warranty this tire.they covered only 50 % of the tire.if i had been driving with my 4 children in the car on the highway...we would have been injured.the tire was confiscated (per michelin) by merchants tire and auto.

Dt*: the contact stated while in a parking lot, the vehicle's tire was observed to be releasing air from the stem. When the contact attempted to put air into the tire, the air was releasing from the stem faster than the tire could be filled with air. The vehicle was towed to cosco where all 4 tires had been purchased 2-3 years ago. The tire's stem was replaced.a representative at the cosco mentioned that the tire repaired was from a defective batch of tires. On 7/23/06, while driving 65 mph on a highway, a loud noise was heard. Once the vehicle was pulled over another tire was flat and observed to be releasing air expediently from the stem.

Over the past 20 years, i have owned 6 cars (5 cadillacs and 1 mercury) equipped with michelin tires.of these 24 tires, i experienced tread separation failure on 18 of the tires and 1 sidewall failure at 13000 miles.two tires, i removed at 25000 miles to avoid problems as i was planning a long trip.three of the tires are still on one car with about 13000 miles on those tires.the standard size for the cadillac is 215/65-16.michelin only recommends that i speak with their dealer.the dealer said he could not adjust for the tires.needless to say i did not replace the failed tires with michelin tires.i experienced an unreasonable tread separation failure rate with michelin tires (time will tell for the remaining 3 tires).this indicates a systemic problem with the michelin design/manufacturing.i did a little research on the subject of tread separation failures and the resulting problems and found that there are some deaths attributable to tread separation failures.because of this and the extremely high failure rate, i feel that the michelin radial tires present a serious safety hazard.i recommend the nhtsa investigate this problem.note:i read that tires manufactured in europe do not have this problem due to a different design/manufacturing process.if this is so, the us should mandate the european design for us manufactured tires.i have specialized education in the automotive industry through the general motors institute and 6 years experience manufacturing automobiles.the approximate incident date is for the latest incident on the 13000 mile tire.before that, i experienced 2 tire failures around the first of june.

While traveling at normal highway speed the front tire outer sidewall shredded completely and uniformly around the entire circumference of the sidewall, resulting in complete failure of the tire.the tire / car has 5,000 miles.michelin brand.i do not know the dot number, type of tire or sizing other than it is a micdhelin tire, or vin number; so guesses for the same have been inserted.

Consumer stated that while driving at 45mph and without warning the rear passenger side tire blew out please provide the size and dot# dealer notified. Ts

While traveling at approx. 35 miles per hour on a local bridge, my right rear tire blew out. I drove a distance of several yards to the end of the bridge where i was able to pull to the shoulder and stop. When a very kind police officer tried to remove the damaged tire, he had to stop because the tire had separated like a recapped tire and wound the torn part around the brake lines and axle. The damages and service charges are estimated to be more than six hundred dollars. Initially, the service repairman at the tire store (where all of the tires were purchased and mounted) indicated that all four tires needed to be replaced because they showed signs of "dry-rot." a short time later, another worker said only the damaged tire needed to be replaced. There seems to be some problems with michelin tires sold within the last few years.
