8/9/04 we had 4 new michelin tires installed. 50,802 miles on car6/19/06 flat tire while riding on rt#6. Tire looked good (good tread-no sign of wear) 75,071 miles on car. Not repairable- needed new tire10/11/07 flat tire on local street. Again good tread and no sign of wear85,424 miles on car - needed new tire5/29/08 flat tire while riding on rt 95 - good tread and no sign of wear.90,002 miles on are - needed new tirewe are a retired couple who take care our car (including tires). While i can understand 1 flat tire and possibly a 2nd flat tire but when we had the 3rd flat tire we suspect a defect. We wrote to michelin and they sent us to a tire dealer to check the remaining tire. The tire manager put it on the lift and said he agreed that the tire was good - good tread and no wear. Because we were afraid of more flats he removed the tires from the rims - cleaned them out - replaced the stems and put them back on the car.each flat that we brought in(3 different repair shops) the shop said the tire was good , there seemed to be a "bubble" which they said could be a stem problem.i am writing because of a tv story on the boston channel on faulty stems made in china. If there are faulty stems out there the public should be aware of this to avoid accidents and possibly deaths. (it was no fun pulled over on rt 95 while cars were whizzing by - it was scary and dangerous.) we simply have no other explanation as to why we had 3 flat tires in 2 years on "good tires". No sign of wear - good tread - no nails, glass- nothing. Why are we getting flats??we are available if anyone would like to contact us. 508-240-1939 or 772-834-6695 roseann mazjanis . Ps - as i proceeded with this report there were 3 options for my kind of tire - i could not find those numbers on the tire so just picked the first one - this might not be the actual tire that i have but your site just gave me 3 options.

We own a 2007 ford fusion with apxm. 40 k miles.it was sold with michelin tires that i believe to be defected and dangerous.we have just replace the third out of four tires.each tire was blown out the sidewall.i have contacted ford and michelin and gotten no help with the replacement of these tire from either.i have read on other website complaints about these same tires.something needs to be done before somebody dies from this.

There is a class action suit presently being settled between owners of the honda odyssey van (equipped with "run-flat" pax tires) and honda motor company and michelin tire company. The issue involves poor tread wear on these tires, the fact that the honda van with these tires has no spare tire, and the fact the tire can only be changed by honda dealers equipped with the "changing machine."there are many sub-issues in the case which relate to passenger safety and security. I hope nhtsa is attuned to this class action suit, wherein thousands of honda owners are affected. I was told by my own honda dealer, that to cost to replace the worn-out tires, remounting and alignment, is over $1,200. Yipes!!worst yet, a family in this honda van could have a flat tire on a motor trip, have no spare tire, and must "find" the honda dealer who has the patented equipment to change the tire. If you breakdown on a weekend, i guess you must stay in a motel until the honda dealer (if there is one) opens during the week days. The pax tires are a potential hazard to the safety and security of passengers in the honda odysseytouring model which is equipped with these tires.i hope nhtsa is monitoring this case, which is defined as follows:re michelin north america, inc.. Pax system marketing and sales practices litigation (case no.8:08-md-01911-rwt). This case is being heard in a "fair settlement hearing: conducted in the united states district court, district of maryland, greenbelt division, 6500 cherrywood lane, greenbelt, md 20770.plaintiffs' attorney is james e. Miller, shepherd, finkelman, miller & shah, llp65 main street, chester, ct 06412 (www.sfmslaw.com) 1-866-540-5505note: the tire specifications listed are not correct. The michelin tire is 235-71or460a energy lx4 pax. Also known as pax "run flat" tires. Disregard my computer entries, which conformed with format.benjamin m. Hamilton

Enclosed is a detailed description of a recent michelin tire failure on my 2006 lincoln ls. On friday, may 29, 2009 i was returning to south florida from a trip to dallas, tx.i was driving on i-10 about 15 miles east of lafayette, la. I suddenly heard a slapping/flapping noise coming from the left rear of the car. I looked at my outside rear view mirror and observed pieces of the rear left tire peeling away from the tire. Then the car lurched as the metal rim of the left rear wheel made contact with the pavement. I luckily was able to steer the car into the right side emergency lane. There was a steady stream of vehicles racing by me, many of them 18-wheeler semi-tractor trailers. As soon as there was an opportunity i exited the car, as did my companion. I walked along the guardrail and to the rear of the car to view the left rear wheel. I could see that all of the tire except the sidewalls were gone and the rim was badly damaged from making contact with the pavement. I called the lincoln emergency road service number on my cell phone for a tow truck. Meanwhile an louisiana state trooper arrived and parked behind my car and waited for the tow truck that arrived about 30 minutes later. My car was towed to the nearest authorized lincoln-mercury dealer inbreaux bridge, la. The ford service department ordered and installed a new replacement rim and tire on saturday, may 30th. They placed the two sidewalls still on the damaged rim in my trunk and i continued my trip home. Based on what i heard and witnessed when parts of the michelin tire separated from the sidewall and rim it appears that the tire failed due to a construction defect. The photos show the extent of damage caused to the tire that separated the tread casing from the sidewalls.here is more important information for your records. I have in my possession the part of the destroyed tire containing the michelin tire description and the dot code. It proves beyond a doubt that it was the michelin tire.
