Metezler me 880 mt90b16 m/c tl i purchased metzeler me 880 tires. With 400 miles on them side wall started cracking and bulging, making the motorcycle uncontrollable.i talked to scott griffin at metzeler and they replaced the tires. I do not know the date code on the tire because they took them. This tire model should be checked. The front tire was visibly checked and there was a huge bubble in it. The rear tire was visibly checked but no bulge yet and there was only 400 miles on them.
Tire on motorcycle separated on highway. Resulted in loss of control, injured both riders, bike was totaled.
Metzler 140/90 b16 me 880 marathon tire rear tire on hd road king, 2'x2' chunks of tire completely separating leaving bald spots on tire and base of tire separating from sidewall.front tire metzler 130/90 16 is showing signs of cracking but still in tact.tires have about 2500 miles.
I own a 2008 yamaha raider motorcycleand the back tire a metzler 210/40/18is a directional type of tire however the tread is such that in a water condition the tire does not push the water away as it should it actually pulls it towards the middleupon checking out the tire found it to be backwards the directional arrow points to the front but tread is backwards . I noticed this in a very small amount of water hydroplaining seems to be a real issuei contacted metezler and they just shrug it off and say its no problem. Motorcycle forums i've visited have a lot of articles on this. I would like to know if someone has to be killed before metezler is made to fix the problem by recall.personally i've ridden motorcycles for 30 years and it was quite a handful to stay upright with very little water involved .a novice rider may not be so lucky i hope someone can make metezler tire companyremedy this problem with a recall. Metezler marathon 880 tire blow out.was driving down highway at 65 mph and the side of my rear tire went out,causing me to almost crash,thank god there was no corner! 150/80b16 www metezler marathon. Tire pressure always checked as i am a motorcycle crash survivor! read on line other people having same trouble with tires stamped product of brazil,which mine are.havent seen dealer to see if he will refund me yet? also have metezler tire on front from brazil! i don't trust it. 250.00 a piece.these tires have about 350 miles on them!!!. Please help before someone gets killed. I have tire not a scratch,nail cut anywhere,just the side blew out.

In april of 2008 i installed a metzeler 880 marathon motorcycle tire on my bike. The tire was purchased from ronayers, which is an online motorcycle parts store. Immediately after installing the tire i went for a ride and noticed a constant shaking of the handlebars....its as if i'm riding on a very very windy day. The bike will not track straight down the road. This only happens at highway speeds of 50 mph or higher.i immediately contacted the distributor ronayers who told me to contact metzeler which is a division of pirelli tires.the manufacturer told me to take it to a dealer and let them check it by riding and see what they tell about the tire. Bells suzuki in lexington was nice enough to ride the motorcycle at no charge....they also checked the balancing, all of which were in specs. The tech said that he could indeed feel what i was talking about and i should again get in touch with the manufacturer. Well it is spring here in kentucky and after riding the bike yesterday and feeling how this bike handles i have been inclined to file this complaint. Metzeler is supposed to be the best tire available for motorcycles, but the bald tire i took off was better than this tire. The tire has less than 1000 miles on it and is unsafe. I have a metzeler 880 marathon tire on the rear of my bikeand it is fine but the front tire is definitely bad. I wanted to have my case documented before something happens to me on this motorcycle.
Metzeler me880 marathon, 180/60r16, for honda gl1800 rear tire out of round causing motorcycle to shimmy. Tire was installed summer of 2009. Shimmy began after tire mileage about 5,000. There was no detectable deflection in tire, but problem steadily got worse. Tire was checked frequently, pressure checked daily (kept at 42psi). At about 9500 miles on tire, shimmy got worse, and tire found to have over 1/2 in. Radial and axial runout. This is third metzeler on my gl1800. 1st one, summer of 2006, had slight shimmy from start, lasted only 925 miles - blowout from road debris. Had that tire replaced by honda dealer in fergus falls, minnesota. Replacement tire had no shimmy until about 800 miles. Shimmy worlened until dangerous condition and tire replaced with different brand. E-mail sent to metzeler with no response.

The tire sidewalls are cracking on both sides. It is now august 28th 2011; one and a half months.the tire pressure was 40 psi at the start of the trip and is 38 psi today with no air added during the trip.
Tire blew outat 75 mph. Approx. 4,500 miles on tire.

The rubber on my rear tire (160/80 b 16 m/c 75h) broke at the tread groves and separated from the casing, causing the tire to go flat. Fortunately the bike was parked when the tire went flat. This is the second incident i have had with this brand and model. The first the sidewall had separated resulting in a large bulge. It also went flat while parked. Tire pressures are checked once per week and before any long trip. Pressure is maintained at 40psi per manuf. Spec
The tire is separating. The tread is lifting from the carcass and cords are visible at 5,000 miles. Others have had the same problem, search forums or google it.

There were also large pieces of the tire separating on seven different sides of the tire; although, there was 95% of the tread depth that was still on the tires. I noticed while i was riding that the bike had a little wobble in the turns. Checked the front tire i could push in about one half inch in the middle of it about 7 inches long. Had to get new tire. The tire was starting to separate.

The contact stated that the front tire exhibited sidewall cracking due to motor vehicle being stationed in the garage. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was confirmed that the front tire needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage of the tire and vehicle was 6,000. The dot and vin were not available.
