I drove from atlanta, georgia to el paso, texas over a two day period. I was not speeding and there were no adverse weather conditions. Preparing for my return trip, i took my car to get an oil change. The mechanic discovered my tire had severe tread separation. The tire has not yet been repaired or replaced, though the car is now using a donut tire in its place.

1. Driving on well lighted interstate at 8:30 pm going 60 mph when right rear tire sidewall blewout ripping 360 degrees around outer edge of sidewall.was able to pull off safely and change tire.

Could not balance tires bubble on tire sidewall

On june 12th, 2012 the right rear tire on my 2008 gmc 2500hd experienced a catastrophic failure (blow out).the failure of the tire was the result of tread separation.the tire was a goodyear wrangler silent armor size lt265/70/17, load range e.at the time the tire failed i was driving on smooth, brand new pavement.the temperature was around 70 degrees and i was going between 55 and 60 mph.we were in between construction zones and just approaching a lane closure so my speed had been quite moderate, well below the posted limit.i was pulling a trailer however the weight was well within the specifications of both the truck and the rating on the tires.although i was able to pull the truck to the side of the road immediately, damage to the truck as the result of the tread separation was extensive and required replacement of the entire right bedside, the exhaust, and the right rear bumper section.although the tires were approaching end of life there was ample tread depth remaining on all four tires and the mileage was still within the manufacturer warranty.i chose to replace all four tires immediately however the tire warranty was limited to a $16 pro-rated credit.the failure that occurred with this tire is identical to what has been described in the recall notice for the same tire however the date of manufacturer for this tire was 9 weeks prior to the date range for the recall.my insurance company has paid to have my truck repaired and they are now pursuing reimbursement of those costs from goodyear thanks to the photos i took immediately following the incident.

Traveling on highway, approx 70mph, valve stem separated from new tire causing complete deflation within about 2 or 3 mins. There was no indication of hitting something in road, no trauma to rim or stem itself (other than the sharp split from where it separated from tire), no extreme conditions, just normal city and highway driving. Tire was less than two months old with less than 2,000 miles. Took tire to goodyear service center. They replaced tire and valve stem with new one. Old tire and stem left with goodyear. Tire:goodyear wrangler silent armor, lt245/75r16, dot md11 y5jv 2810.

The vehicle is a flat bed pick-up never used for load bearing duties. Similar tires listed as recalled from year 2009 manufacture as announced in 2012. Tire forensic requested.attempt will be made to retrieve the tire for forensic analysis purposes.there was no warning from the tire pressure sensors, prior to the freeway sidewall blowout.
