While outside of salt lake city utah on interstate 15 we experienced a tread separation on our 2012 keystone montana 3100rl. The left rear tire came apart. The tire was a goodyear marathon sts235r 16. The tires were manufactured in the 49th week of 2011 and came equipped with the trailer when we bought it new in february of 2012. I filed a complaint with goodyear (complaint #[xxx]) in which they said they determined it was not the result of a defect with their tire but a result of a loss of air pressure. I have maintained the pressure in my tires and believe they are wrong.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2004 mastercraft trailer with goodyear marathon st225/75r/15 trailer tires at proper inflation requirements and towing at highway speeds.left side tire blew at highway speed.1hr later at highway speeds, right side showed signs of impending tire failure...which was confirmed after tire replacement at tire shop.both failed tires were chinese made goodyear marathons.old parts: 1st tire failure is not available, 2nd failure tire is available.over the last 3-5yrs, i've experienced too many trailer tire failures.if regulations do not exist for trailer tires, they need to.if they do exist, they need revisited and reinforced.tire failures so frequently at highway speeds are a safety hazard to myself and those around me.trailer type in description is accurate.trailer type in "vehicle" section is not.
This is re a travel trailer tire problem.our 2000 hilo towlite has st175-80x13 load range b goodyear marathon tires.the manufacturer sticker with gvwr etc states tire pressure at 50 psi.load range b tires are designed for 35 psi.some months ago i sent the manufacturer an email advising them of this.they said 50 psi was safe.i requested confirmation from goodyear, which responded that 35 psi was the maximum.i advised the manufacturer, who asked if i wanted a new sticker.i asked if they shouldn't research to see how many trailers had the wrong info, since this could be a safety issue.they became indignant and refused to discuss it further by email.that concerns me, because such overinflation could well cause a blowout, endangering lives.my vin is [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I was pulling my travel trailer on i-10 west of marianna, fl. July 2007. Lost both ls tires from tire tread separation. Temperatures around 98 and no tire impact found. Spoke with several independent tire dealers and checked the google internet search found lots of complaints about tire failure with the goodyear marathon st trailer tires.
I have 4 goodyear marathon radial tires (st235/80r16) on my 2005 alpinelite 32 foot 5th wheel. While traveling on i-10 in van horn tx, i stopped for fuel. I noticed a 8" dia by 4" bubble on exterior side wall. I found a koa in town, and after i got in place i called tripple a for a tire change service call. I used my spare of same brand, make and size that came with rv. I have marked bubble on the tire and will be looking for goodyear dealership.

Tire separation.
I have had 4 goodyear marathon strailer tires fail due to tread separation in the last 3 years. Tread separation has occurred while traveling at 60-65 mph on the interstate. Two of the tires separated within a 2 month time period. I maintain the air pressure at 65 psi cold as imprinted on the tire. My trailer is a 30 ft. Sunnybrook and is with in the gvrw as well as each tire weight rating. I have contacted goodyear and currently am awaiting a claim. Goodyear has stated that there is no defect. Several other members of our camping club have had the same problem with the marathon s tires.
After experiencing a blow out on my trailer myself (goodyear), i found i was ingood company.it appears this is a common malady.please look at thesepostings.http://www.campingworld.com/cforum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/14464015.cfm it is almost common knowledge that trailers have blow outs veryoften.i have never had a blow out on any vehicle after 46 years of driving.why did i have one on my trailer which had perfectly good looking tireswhich were properly inflated?i suspect the manufactures are gettingaway with selling junk tires because they can blame it on other things.ie.under inflation, overloading etc. It is so dangerous when a blow out occurs and could leave you on a badhighway trying to replace the tire.i sure hope you people can startregulating this and protecting the consumer.jay haindel
