Tire and steel belt separation goodyeartrailer tire marathon radial size st205/75r14made in new zealand #t302199 bw-1.
Keystone recreation vehicles for the past few years have been using the goodyear marathon st235 80r 16 e tires. These tire are listed as trailer tires, they fail under normal use. I have had 3 tires 2 years old with less than 10,000 miles blow out in the last 2 months due to tire failure. In my research i have found numerous other keystone recreational vehicle owners having the same heavy failure rate that luckily to this date has not caused loss of life. These failures have caused injuries, and hundreds of thousands dollars of damage. These failures have caused loss of control of vehicles.
I had a blowout of a goodyear marathon trailer tire st215/75r14. The tire was on the left side of trailmanor 2720 single axle travel trailer. There was no apparent cause of puncture. I was driving on us376 eastbound about 8-10 miles east of saluda, sc, and was driving about 50 mph. Tire pressures were checked that morning before leaving at 51-52psi both sides (rec. Inflation pressure is 50psi).
Goodyear marathontrailer tire blow out of the side wall. Size st225/75r15 has a history of side wall failures. And should be recalled. It happened to us on hwy 20. In wa. State. The good year company is replacing all tires that fail but no warning to the public.
We were 4 hours into our vacation when the goodyear marathon 235/80/16 on our 2011 montana 5th wheel blew. The damage was close to $2000, messed up the tire well, ripped the bellypan and messed up the slide out.goodyear will pay our deductible, but won't help with replacement of the rest of the china bombs under our camper.very unhappy with goodyear and montana.

4 goodyear marathon miler trailer service tires purchased around july 2006.1 tire with lot code 1305 has large bulging not on outside and tire is separating from inner liner.1 tire with lot code 2104 has signs of separation from liner and dry cracking showing. Also tread is bulging higher on 1 side than the other.2 other tires, 1 with 1604 lot code and 1 with 2104 lot code have shown only some signs of dry cracks.
I emplore you to start investigating the common use of st rated radial trailer tires on today's travel trailers and fifth wheel trailers. I just purchased a new 2006 holiday rambler 30cks travel trailer that rides on 4 goodyear st 225/75/r16 marathon tires. I had all 4 tires suffer sidewall failure after no more than 500 miles. I ran the tires at 65 psi per manufacturers recommendations, and have certified cat scale readings showing i'm within weight for tires and vehicle. I had the tires inspected at a goodyear dealer and had a very frank conversation with the owner. He whole heartedly feels that the tires are not up to the kind of service that they see hauling around these big dual axle travel trailers. I paid $1200 of my own money (no complaining) to upgrade to commercial truck tires (goodyear helped me pick the correct tires). I refused to risk my families life towing a trailer with these tires - there are reports all over the internet about these tires - now made in china to boot!it really hit home when the goodyear dealer owner could not tell me in good faith that i was safe using these tires. By the way i'm a mechanical engineer with 15 years experience designing heavy industrial equipment. Suitable tires exist, but the manufacturers don't spec them to save money. Most people aren't as savvy as i am about these things, i feel sorry and worried about all their lives!please help! i'm more than willing to give more information as requested. Thanks!

Concerns good year marathon radial d rated trailer tires 225/15our fifth wheel came with 4 of them on. There was a recall and we got all new tires. Those proceeded to start wearing from the inside out also. My husband took them to good year and got a reduction in price you know pro rate as good tread still (not much of one!!!) and got all new tires again. This was about 3 years ago. The trailer has been approximately 7,000 miles or less since then. We keep the tires covered in our driveway. Guess what they are bubbling and wearing from the inside out again. One blew out on freeway and almost caused us an accident. Now a rvdealership just pointed out to us another tire has 2 bubbles in it. Again they have perfectly good tread left on them. We are going to replace them tomorrow. We are not going to buy good year brand tires!!! good year should be shot for selling them as trailer tires. The rv people who put them on there must be in cahoots with good year and get a huge discount and they should also be shot. I would not recommend their trailer tires to anyone. I think if i find a consumers place to complain like the attorney general or whoever i shall send them a copy of this letter to.sincerely [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Dt the tires on the camper are blowing out it was 3 out of the 4, goodyear has replaced them twice once in summer of 99 because two blewout. Took to the dealer and goodyear put on 5 new tires. In march of this year one blew out on the right rear, called goodyear and said take to dealer and they replaced 4 but not the spare. 1st time tore up fender wheel and gas lines and goodyear paid for it. This timeit did not cause any damage to the camper. This is a camper that you pull with a vehicle.
Interstate speed with 5th wheel rv with original goodyear marathon st235/80r16 tires with approx. 5000 miles on them. Driver side tire blew and caused $4500 worth of damage to rv. Two months later (8-13-14) it happened again, this time on passenger side. Goodyear paid my deductible without question. But these tires seem to be having tread separation at legal highway speeds and proper tire inflation and load limits.

3 goodyear marathon tires on my camper went flat while driving through maryland, while enroute to massachusetts from florida. I believe these tires are a safety issue. They had less than 2,000 miles on them. I have had nine of these fail in the past three years.

I have a 2011 forest river blue ridge rv (3025 cabin edition). This rv is equipped with goodyear marathon st235/80r16 tires.i purchased this rv in nov. 6, 2010. During out recent return trip from maine we had a blow out on the passenger side front of the rv.i had checked the pressures throughout this trip.during ever stop i checked the tires for heating (laser thermo gun).during this trip i had no indications of overheating or low pressures. (all pressure checks were taken while the tires were cold during the stays at the different koa's.on aug 2, 2012 while traveling on i-81 in virginia we had this blow out.i had just checked the tires for temp changes at the rest area.i called good sams to get assistance in the tire change.i then moved from the i-81 to a goodyear dealership where i had the tires replaced with the same goodyear tire. ($213.64 for new tire)we completed the trip home without any further incidents.i filed a claim with state farm, the rv was delivered to a repair center where the cost of the repairs were $3 663.04 (3 weeks in the shop)before we departed on out next trip, wednesday oct. 17,2012 i had checked all of the tires for the correct pressures, again cold, and all tires were set to 80 psi.( my wife had me check these tires again later on the 17th.) we departed for our trip over to canton, tx. On thursday oct. 18, 2012.we had the 2nd blow out.this time on the drive side of the rv the rear tire.at the last rest area i had checked the tire pressures and for heating, all looked good. We were at exit 528 on i-20 just 7 miles from our destination.i again called good sams, the tire was changed then we proceeded to the rv center where we found 4 other rv's that had been checked in with the same issue with the same tires??this damage will be about the same to repair! now if i file this on insurance my coverage will go up.goodyear should be responsible for the damages as now these tires are no longer made in china!
While pulling the camper at 55 mph rear right tire blew out and wrapped around the axle.the tire severely damaged the right rear splash guard on the trailer.when the tire blew, the whole cap of the tire had come off wrapping itself around the trailer axle and stuffed some of it into the brake drum.the consumer requested that the tire be replaced and reimbursement for the damages to the vehicle. *sc
I have a 2009 keystone challenger 5th wheel that came with goodyear marathon st235/80/16 tires.traveling along the oklahoma turnpike the right front tires exploded without warning.the tire pressure had been checked that morning and the tires had been visually inspected within 30 minutes of the failure.goodyear states there is no problem with their tires and refused replacement.however, you have 79 similar complaints on these tires listed on your webpage.this caused significant damage to the fifth wheel and caused me to swerve into the other lane, luckily the vehicle next to me was able to move over and avoid me.this was a very close call.while changing tire on side of road we were nearly struck by a semi-truck.
Stopped at rest stop on i-4 checked tires everything ok. Traveled 18 miles to i-75 headed south about 10 miles when someone pulled up next to us and pointed back at our fifth wheel and said tire. Pulled over and tire was low. A road ranger stopped and tried to put air in tire and we heard air coming out of tire, saw tire tread separation. Second tire from this group to separate. Goodyear marathon 235/80/r16. Purchased 4 new tires in may 2009. During routine inspection april 2011 found two tires defective. One was determined by original dealer to be out-of-round, second was determined to have cord separation. Both are being replaced by dealer. Both tires had less than 11,000 miles. Pressures were always maintained at 75 psi. Trailer weights were verified at below rated weight. Speed never exceeded 60 mph.due to the large number of similar events reported to nhtsa as well as online reports on various web sites, i would like to see some action by the government to insure the public safety.vehicle is a 2005 glendale titanium model 29e34ts. This is included as it is not an available option in the later description fields.

Purchased 2013 montana 5th wheel travel trailer equipped with goodyear marathon 235 80/r16 tires. After first time out we traveled approximately 100 miles round trip. After returning home i inspected the rv and noticed bubbles on the first tire drivers side. I replaced both tires on that axle with two tow max. In january 2015 we were parked in st. George, ut. I did a walk around and noticed tire cords hanging out of the second tire back on drivers side. I replaced that tire before traveling. On the way to kingman az, january 12, 2015,on hwy 93 we had a blow out on the remaining gy marathon tire. The blow out resulted in damage to the trailer. I brought this problem to the attention of gy when the first problem arose. Gy said they have a 6 year warranty. No tire shop i have been to will consult with gy on this problem. I would never put these tires on any vehicle again. These tires had under 4,000 miles on them.

We had our first trip today from home into las cruces, nm. Prior to leaving home, we checked all the tires, and the pressures were all 65 psi. Tires have about 28000 miles, and trailer is 19 months old.we took our trailer into north dallas rv on sep 28 for the recall. We had them accomplish that and several other items.today, we had the scare of our life. About 250 miles from home, we felt a vibration. I noticed rubber coming from the street side. Turns out the entire front street tire came apart. The outer tread came completely off, separating from the side walls. It caused only minimal damage to the molding. Tire was original equipment.we replaced the tire and continued. We filled up the truck in van horn, tx, and stopped at a rest stop about 50 miles east of el paso. All seemed ok there.we drove into las cruces, nm. Mary said there was a funny clicking sound on the right side. When we pulled into our spot, mary saw that the entire rear curb side tire disintegrated somewhere in the last 90 miles. We felt no vibrations or any other indication that the tire went bad. There's little but wheel and sidewall left.we have pictures of the entire incident.
Leaving wyoming traveling east. Found left front tire flat. Checked all air two days earlier. Tires were in excellent shape when checked. Looking at flat all tread looked new except where tread and sidewall met. Tread had worn off causing a flat. This tire looked like new two days earlier. Two weeks before i left on this trip i had to replace the tire on right front because of bulge at the same location on the tire. Tread depth on both tires was within 2/32s of new.put on spare and headed home. Within one thousand miles right center tire delaminated and blew tearing up the wheelwell of rv. All three tires were at the proper inflation checked cold.
All the tires experienced blowouts within 3 months.the tires were taken back to the distributor who informed the consumer that they would not be able to replace the tires. Goodyear tire less than one year old blew out causing damage to the trailer and loss of the tire.
Goodyear marathon tire separated while driving at highway speed. Goodyear was not contacted.
Goodyear marathon tires - tread delaminates from tire even when used at rated speed and load. I have had my travel trailer for 2 years and the same failure has occurred on 4 tires. Approx. 3000 miles. On occurrences 2 & 3 the trailer was empty, minimum load. You have 31 complaints for the same problem and 27 under tire general defects. This problem is also wide spread on the internet particularly on rv enthusiast websites. I work for a major car company as avp of parts and service with over 30 years experience. This is a real problem with life threatening potential. I still have the remains of the most recent tire failure available for inspection. I was foolish not to keep the others, however the replacement history can be documented at my local tire dealer. I'm not interested in restitution, i have already ordered a different brand of tire to replace these before i have another failure. When the tread delaminates it is slung off the tire carcas and often cause significant damage to the trailer. Between the number of complaints you have received and the widespread buzz on the internet you should have more than enough information to open a formal defect investigation.
The contact owns a 2014 (na) airstream bambi sport trailer equipped with goodyear marathon tires, size: st225/75r15 (na). The trailer was pulled by a 2016 ford f-150. While driving approximately 62 mph, the contact felt a jolt. The contact looked towards the rear and noticed that the trailer was leaning towards the left, and the undercarriage and water tank were detached from the vehicle. The contact pulled over and noticed that the driver side tire had blown out on the trailer. The contact had to use the spare tire to move the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the lazy days dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: 1583931; however, the property claims department stated that nothing could be done to assist. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 6,300 and the tire failure mileage was 3,000.
I was traveling from flagstaff heading to sun lakes az when my trailer had a tire blow out.i have a 2010 keystone montana 5th wheel purchased may 2009. I checked the air pressure in all 4 of the trailer tires the day before. They were all above 75 psi and less than 80 psi (checked them cold). The failure occurred approx 1000ft from exit 293 cornville rd. I was traveling at 55 mph or less due to "road work ahead" signs.there was no debris on the road.

The contact owns a 2015 forest river cardinal equipped with goodyear marathon tires, size: st235/80/r16 (na). While driving 60 mph, the rear driver side tire blew out and damaged the driver side of the camper. The front driver side tire had bubbles. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the tires were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The tire and vehicle failure mileage was 3,000.
Tire tread detached from tire tearing up trailer. Tires were not 2 years old & were purchased new. Tire pressure was checked just prior to trip & was accurate. Tire did not blow it still had air in it until the next day. Vehicle was traveling at 60 mph on interstate when tire tread came apart damaging trailer. The tire was a goodyear marathon st 225 - 75 r15 load range d.purchased in 2007.
On june 26, 2012 a goodyear marathon tire, st235/85r16, blew out on my 2011 eagle5th wheel trailer. Fortunately the trailer was sitting still when it blew because i was at the registration desk of a campground in williams, az. I had just driven approximately 300 miles from another campground in new mexico. On june 28, 2012 i took the tire to great west commercial tire in kingman, arizona. When i backed the trailer in the technician informed me that another tire on the other axle, opposite side was separating. I ended up purchasing two tires for a total of $382.98 plus $41.98 for labor and valve stems. I was informed that the adjuster for goodyear comes around quarterly and had just been there. I said ok as long as you hold on to the tires until i am satisfied with the claim. When i left their business i went straight to the cat scale at the flying j pilot truck stop across from their location. I sent great western a copy of the weigh ticket when i got home. The trailer axles weighed 10,040 pounds, well under the capacity for the tires, which were properly inflated to 80 psi and were checked several times during the trip. According to great western the tires had 6/32" tread left out of 10/32" when they talked to the person i complained to at goodyear. The claim form says 8/32" and 7/32". I measured the two tires that were not affected and both had 8/32" tread left. The tires were original equipment on the trailer and by my estimation had only about 5,000 miles on them.i was recently informed by the person i spoke to at goodyearthat the tires were disposed of despite the fact they knew i was not satisfied with their $69.92 settlement.pictures and correspondence are available. Our new montana fifth wheel came equipped with goodyear marathon st 235/80 r16 load range e tires.within 7 months of purchase and with 4500 miles on the tires, we had a complete tire failure with the entire tread being blown off while doing 60 mph on a clear interstate with no road hazard.we had checked the tire pressure that morning and had the recommended 80 psi as advised on the tire.one day later, another of the same goodyear tires would not hold air and we were advised by a goodyear dealer that this was also "belt failure."while having these 2 tires replaced, they discovered another marathon tire had flat and bowed out areas to the tread.they only had 2 tires for replacement.these were not goodyear tires.we had to travel and purchased 2 more replacements non goodyear tires.we did not have an accident but there was damage to our camper.

Goodyear marathon trailer tires failed - blew out: have a 1995 cardinal trailer, all had goodyear marathon trailer tires, size st205/75r15.i have two of the tires blow up just sitting on the spare tire holder.a third tire completely separated on the trailer.i checked today, and the last of this type of tire is separating.it appears that the top layer of material is separating.i took the tire to discount tire to replace it.the tread is just split open and torn all the way around.this is a total of four out of four tires that have failed. There is definitely a problem with these tires.i have incurred a lot of expense to replace tires that plenty of tread life.all tires were inflated appropriately.what is really concerning to me, is that two of the tires blew up just sitting on the spare tire holder.

In 2002 i purchased a new boat from sea ray boats with a shorelander trailer.it is equipped with goodyear marathon tires in size 215/75r14.they are c load rating tires with 1870 lb rating.the boat and trailer are 5500 lb maximum with all equipment and full load of fuel.last fall in october while driving to the lake at highway speed the left front tire exploded.i pulled over and put on the spare.goodyear replaced the tire.two weeks after that while prepping the boat and trailer for another trip, i always check tires, wheels and bearing condition before towing, i noticed two of the tires had bulges in the tread.i took them to the store and goodyear replaced them.of course every time a tire got replaced i had to pay a pro-rate, mount and balance charges, and taxes.i requested goodyear replace the fourth tire since it was the only remaining tire in use that didn't fail.they replaced it as a peace of mind gesture.now just this past weekend 7/2/06, i checked over the trailer as usual and all was ok.then as i was pulling out of the driveway i saw something funny in the mirror.when i got out to inspect it i found one of the tires they just replace had a giant bulge in the side wall.the little nubs haven't even worn of the tire yet it's so new.boy was i mad!!!!!!goodyear is replacing it for no charge this time.when i asked about getting different tires they said there was nothing they could do.this tire should be recalled for safety reasons.they are unsafe.

Goodyear marathon trailer tires separation of the tire tread from the underlying belts.

I have goodyear marathon st 225/75/15 d tires on brand new (may 2007) 2007 carmate 24 foot trailer. I drove the trailer to salt lake city (slc), back to frederick, md, than back to slc. So, with about 8,000 miles (july 14 now) on the tires - i notice "air bubbles" in the sidewall just above the rim. I call local goodyear dealers, and none have the tires in stock (i do hear though that this is a common problem with these tires, several non goodyear dealers tell me that they have immediately taken these tires off due to issues with these tires). I decide to put the spare tire on (also a marathon) and continue my journey to sierra vista, az.near price, az i notice another "air bubble" in a different tire. Not wishing to take a chance on a blow-out (no good spare tire left) i buy new tires (big o this time), because there are no marathon tires in stock in price, az.arriving in sierra vista, az i talk to the local goodyear dealership about these tires. He acknowledges that this seems to be a problem with these tires, but can not help me because he is not a "authorized" goodyear dealership any longer. Due to new job and house hunting i let the replacement issue drop for awhile. September 20, 2007. I have perfomed searches on the internet, and while not seeing the issue with "air bubbles" i see plenty of issues concerning "blowouts" with these tires (were there air bubbles first?). I call goodyear hq and am given a case number and a tucson dealership to take the tires too. Overall i am writing this letter/complaint to say that:1) there seems to be a known problem (at least among the public and dealerships (goodyear & other manufactures)) with these tires.2) (dependent upon the outcome tomorrow) goodyear seems to be willing to work with me on the defective tire issue.
Goodyear marathon st265/80 r16.manufactured in 2003.installed on 5th wheel trailer in 2004.had 1st blowout summer 2006 on interstate.this year i had 3 sidewall failures on the other tires.2 of the 3 had large bulges (3-4 inches in diameter) in the sidewall when the tire was hot.when the tire cooled the bulge increased by a factor of 4.the other failure had splits in the center of the sidewall.all of the goodyear dealers tried to make me believe that these failures were my fault.i kept the last failed tire.coincidently i ran into a gentleman at the goodyear dealer in albuquerque nm who identified himself as a retired goodyear engineer from akron, oh.he told me that this failure was typical of a compounding problem.
I have had six blow outs or tire failures on goodyear "marathon" trailer tires in 15,000 miles!!! the tires were original equipment on a 2002 22' haulmark enclosed aerostar trailer. The tire size is: st 225/ 75 r- 15. The catastrophic failures have been mostly with the side walls blowing out and one with the tread belt coming off. I am meticulous with keeping the proper inflation and have varied it between 65-55 lbs. The trailer is not overloaded (3,500 lbs.) with tandem heavy-duty axles. The failures have been on all four tire positions, there was no unusual tire wear patterns. The trailer manufactor denies any problems there aware off. The last failure occured on dec. 17th 2004 just after starting a trip 10 miles from my home on interstate 75. The failure previous to that occured on week earlier with a tire having about 1,000 miles on it. The failure prior to that was nov. 24, 2004 on a brand new tire with 100 miles on it!!! i have not hit any road hazards or obsticles.the other tires all had no visible signs of punctures, most with under 5,000 miles. This is not by coincidence that all these blowouts are occuring!!! allied tire in ocala,fl. (shelby) was the first person to admit he has seen a problem with these tires with customers and now uses carlieles. These blowouts have cost me much inconveinence and trip interuptions not to mention the safty hazard and expense.everytime one blows it cost me over a hundred dollars. Something needs to be done (recall) before people are injured or killed.i now carry two spares and am not buying anymore goodyear trailer tires. Please relay this message to goodyear. Thank you.

Purchased new airstream travel trailer, equipped with goodyear marathon trailer tires 225/75/r15. On first trip approximately 300 miles out experienced tire blowout. After researching on the web i was shocked to see many comments regarding the same experiences with these tires.

Two goodyear marathon st235.80-16 service d tires have delaminated.local goodyear representative unconcerned.wants to charge me for sending off the tire for warranty replacement.i am currently in the process of upgrading the tires to titan service e.the goodyear's arestandard factory equipped on the 36 foot kz trailer which currently has less than 10000 miles on it.the gros trailer weight is well within specifications.the goodyear tires form a large bubble on the sides, which eventually pop (tire #2).is the trailer manufacturer matching the load capacity of the tires correctly?or perhaps, is this a defective tire manufacturing situation?i have possession of the second tire, if you wish to inspect it.
In june 2003 i bought a 2003 travel supreme express 5th wheel trailer. This rv trailer had 6 new goodyear marathon p235/80r16 load range"d" tires. With less than 1000 miles on them i had the first of 3 tire failures. The first indication of a problem was a 4 inch bubble on the outside side wall. A short time after the discovey of the bubble the tire blew out. The tire was removed and replaced with another tire of the same brand and specifications. No thought of defective tires yet! less than 1500 miles later i experienced another tire failure. The tire was removed and replaced with indentical tire again. Now i have beginnings of doubts about safety and quality of tires. I finished my summer travels in october 2003 with approximately, to the best of my ability to calculate. Less than 8000 miles on the original 4 remaining tires. This year, may 2004, i removed my rv from storage for another trip. Less than 50 miles from home i have another, 3rd, tire failure. Another bubble on the outside side wall. I return home and take the rv to the local goodyear tire dealer to replace the tire. I have asked goodyear for safety to replace the remaining 3 original tires at no expense to me but as yet they are only willing to prorate the tires based on the remaining tread depth on the tires. I believe the tires are defective and are a continuing safety hazard. I will happily provide any other information requested.

This contact caused approx $5-6,000.00 worth of damage to the side and under side of the trailer. When the damaged tire was replaced with a spare tire the air pressure was checked and was still 65 psi.this is the third goodyear marathon trailer tire that has separated the tread from the casing while i was tow a travel trailer.

In sept 2014 i had a blowout on i75 on my jayco fifth wheel.there was damage to the rv.after the rv was repaired it was in storage until june 28,2015, when i had another blow out, and then 2 more on july 1st.every tire was destroyed because the tread ripped off the tire.i also had damage to the 5th wheel from each of these blow outs.i filed a claim with goodyear as it was obvious the tires were defective. Goodyear rejected the claim saying the tires must have been low on air.i always check my tires when i am leaving on a trip and i do not overload the rv.
