Returning home from a 3 night trip to chama, nm when passenger rear tire of our 2012 5th wheel trailer blew out. We were traveling at 65 mph on i-40 outside the eastern city limit of albuquerque, nm. There was an exit about 100 yards away so we could pull off with room to replace the tire. Plastic wheel well trim and bottom metal panel were damaged from the shredded tire. We bought a new tire in albuquerque 8/3/13 so we could get back on the road 8/4/13 for a 2 day trip to clovis, nm to meet our son returning from afghanistan. As we were driving on hwy 60/84 at 65 mph near melrose, nm the driver front tire of our trailer blew out. Since this was a sunday afternoon with little traffic on the 2 lane hwy, i was able to pull off and retrieve the blown off pieces of my trailer and tire tread from the hwy. This was the 2nd blow out of the original goodyear marathon st tires in a 3 day span! on monday 8/5/13, i called the trailer mfgr and asked if i should be replacing the blown out tires with some other brand, but their recommendation was to stay with the marathon sts, contact goodyear for a property damage claim and submit a complaint to nhtsa. I have the trailer in the shop waiting for replacement parts and goodyear is reviewing my claim and inspecting the 2nd blown tire. I questioned them if the other original marathon st tires would also be failing prematurely and they suggested i have a tire retailer inspect them. I inspect them for wear and check tire pressures before making tripsand i do not see any defects. I wonder how a tire retailer can predict when a blow out will occur! when i bought the 2nd replacement tire in clovis, the tire dealer asked what pressure i wanted in the tire. I said 80 psi as the tire indicated. He said the pressure should not be based on information on tire but on the load on the trailer. He didn't show me a chart to show the pressure for different loads. I had him inflate to 80 psi. This is a serious problem...updated 09-18-13 9/19/13 updated 09/25/2013 updated 12/23/201

Purchased new 5th wheel trailer in december of 2017 with goodyear marathon st235/80r16, load range e tires installed. While driving at 55 mph on a somewhat curvy and hilly state highway with 4800 miles on rv, the left rear tire tread came completely off the tire damaging the rv in the process. I pulled to shoulder and failed tire had a significant leak, but did not blow out so i replaced it with the spare. I have tpms installed on all 4 wheels which reports tire pressure and temperature. I bought 4 goodyear marathon st225/75-15 tires with dot 3210,3310 and 2011 in april 2012 for my airstream travel trailer. They were on the trailer for two trips to florida in november and december of 2012 (approx 1400mi). After the winter storage i noticed all 4 tires have bubbles on the inner and outer sidewall. My request to exchange the tires at walmart was turned down by the store manager even with the tire and lube supervisor acknowledging the defects.

Tire began to lose pressure due to sidewall failure. Fortunately i have tpm and temperature monitors tire (tire temp was 98f outside temp 88f) on each tire and stopped before the tire came apart. Tire is goodyear marathon 225/75/15 load range e. Tire was inflated to 78psi and on a 2004 arctic fox 25r travel trailer.

On friday august 8th 2014 we stopped at goodyear tire dealer in mount vernon, wa. And had 4 brand new goodyear marathon tires st235/80r16 tires installed. We drove 30 miles to our rv resort and pulled in to our campsite. Noticed that the left front tire was very low. Backed into our site and got settled in. The next morning i checked the tire again and noticed it was completely flat also noticed that three of the 4 tires are also flat. These tires are brand new with only 30 miles on them. I've called the dealer and requested that they come to our campsite as i have no way of changing these tires. Waiting for them to show up on monday aug. 11th.

In reviewing the other complaints on these trailer tires from other rv owners, i am surprised there has not been a recall on these tires.by not reacting to the many complaints you are putting unsuspecting rv owners and other drivers at risk..information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The tires installed and delivered by the manufacturer are goodyear marathon st load range e tires [odi note: st235/80r16 lre @ 80psi]with a maximum load rating of 3420 pounds. There are two tires per axle for a total tire load rating of 6840 pounds. The axles are rated and certified by the manufacturer with a maximum load rating of 7000 pounds. The tires do not meet the axle load rating as required by "571.120s5.1.2tire selection and rims and motor home/recreation vehicle trailer load carrying capacity information for motor vehicles with a gvwr of more than 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds)."i notified the manufacturer on 02/02/2013 by email and there written response was " you have the proper tires. Remember you have 1760lbs of weight on the hitch." i notified the manufacturer a second time on 02/04/2013 requesting them to take my notice seriously and received no response.

Had 2 tires blow out on recent trips.the goodyear marathon st235/80r16-e came on our 2013 keystone montana 3100rl 5th wheel when it was bought new.tire pressures were verified prior to our trip.one tire blew (shredded) on the drivers side while on rt 95 in maryland on june 17, 2015. Caused substantial damage to camper. I added a tpms to monitor the pressure and temperature of the tires (in real-time) shortly after that incident. On a subsequent trip, a second gy marathon blew out on rt. 95 in nj on july 29, 2015, about 175 miles into our trip. It was also on the drivers side of the camper.starting cold inflation was 78 psi (per gy inflation tables for weight on axles).monitorshowedapprox. 89 psi and 98 degrees (f) at time of blowout.we were on a smooth, straight section of road at the time and did not hit any debris or hazard.it just blew out the sidewall.steel belt was badly distorted. In both instances i was able to maintain control of the vehicles. Changing a flat on the driver's side of the trailer is very dangerous.i have since replaced all four tires with load range g tires. I kept the second blowout and took it to goodyear.they gave me credit for the one tire.i have the three remaining gy marathons in my garage should a recall occur in the near future.in reading thru numerous rv and boat owner forums, this is a common issue with many load range e tires on trailers where the weight is at the upper end of the tire rating.

I have a 2014 montana fifth wheel trailer not yet three years old. I had a massive blow out on the front drivers side tire on 11/08/2016 on the interstate going 58mph. After going to the nearest les schwab dealer in napa idaho only to be told that all four tires were separating and needed to be replaced. This rig is less than three years old with about four thousand miles on the tires. I feel that their is a defect in goodyear marathon st tires and should be recalled and owners comped

Goodyear marathon st 235/80r16 tires were the original tires on our 2014 cardinal by forest river 5th wheel. Both tires blew on 8/1/2015 within 120 miles of each.first tire blew and tread completely separated; second tire blew out like a balloon. Trailer suffered significant damage from blowouts.

Vehicle is a 2017 5th wheel trlr.. On 7/12/2019 i was towing the trlr at 70 mph and pulled into a stop. Trlr is 2 axles and the rt. Front tire was flat with about a 7 inch strip of tread hanging loose at the junction of the tread/sidewall. I replaced the tire at a cost of $140.00. Tire pressure was 75 psi and the air temp was 90 deg. On 7/14/2019 i had another blowout with the left rear tire at 70mph. The tire came apart and damage the trailer floor and side skirting. The air temp was 77 deg. Both tires were original equipment goodyear marathon's st 235/80r16 load e. Dot 2vun 1lhv. I intend to replace the remaining marathon's as soon as possible. I have pictures of the second tire as well as trlr. Damage. Trlr is a forest river, sanibel 3591.

Goodyear marathon and hi-run tires.i had purchased a new set of each brand (235/80 r16 load range e) for my two axle 5th wheel, and had one of each brand mounted on same side.i prepared for a trip from tx to pa - at that time tires were less than three years old, had less than 2000 miles on them, tire pressure at start 75psi, and speeds not over 65mph.on the trip, at approximately 900 miles one of the goodyear tires blew - steel belt separated, tread came off, and causing significant damage to the rv skin.i thought i must have run over something causing the blowout.changed the tire and continued on.at approximately 100 miles down the road the second goodyear blew.this tire came apart identical to the first one.i pulled into a truck/tire shop and had them assess the situation.they had no clue why the tires came apart in that manner.while replacing the two blown tires they checked the hi-run tires.they found that both of the treads were bowed and the steel belts were beginning to separate (several ends of steel belt strands had penetrated the tread).there was no unusual wear on the tread (which would lend itself to an alignment problem), and the trailer weight was well below the tire rating.i had the shop replace both those tires as well, and continued on.this event highlighted to me, even though you feel comfortable with your in-depth pre-trip inspection, it's vital to do cursory looks at critical points while traveling.on a side note, both the marathon and hi-run tires were made in china, and if your tire is bowed and you're going to run your hand over the tread in an attempt to see if any wire is protruding, suggest you wear a glove.

On june 15,2014 while driving on the pa turnpike, we had a blow out on our rv.the tires were good year marathon st225/75 r15. We safely changed the tire and no one was injured.after contacting our insurance company and getting an estimate, the damages amounted to $4300.00.our insurance company contacted good year and requested reimbursement of the cost to fix our rv.good year gave the insurance company the full amount requested.. I contacted good year and requested to be reimbursed the cost of our deductible and 5 new tires.i explained that i had researched the tires on the dot site and was not comfortable with the complaints listed. I also explained my reason for purchasing 5 new tires, safety, quality and peace of mind and being proactive for future issues.they offered me one tire cost and the deductible.i declined the offer and am now filing a complaint with the office of the atty general consumer affairs.i will never again purchase good year tires for any of my vehicles.i am also contacting jayco to advise them that although i love my rv, they could have put quality tires on it.

Goodyear marathon st235/80 r16 load range e are installed on my 2014 lakota 8313 living quarters horse trailer. The tires may have 10000 miles on them. Wife coming home from harriman, tn when all of a sudden the rear tire on the passenger side exploded. She did not hit no pothole or run over anything. The whole center tread of the tire separated. She was going normal speed of 55 mph when this occurred. She was transporting our horses. When the tire exploded, it caused over 2500 dollars worth of damage to our trailer.after reading review after review in regards to this tire, we are not the first ones this has happen too. There are a lot of folks who pull horse trailers that have had these tires do the same thing to them-explode and come apart while driving on the freeway. Seems to be an issue with a poor quality tire made by goodyear. An investigation need to be open on this tire and a recall issued before someone get killed from a tire exploding and a trailer flipping over.

I purchased four new goodyear marathon trailer tires (225/75/15 load range d) for my fifth wheel camper june 2012.two of the four tires blew apart in the first 1500 miles.there is something very wrong with these tires.they should not be blowing apart with almost no use and without any impact damage from road hazards.i have read multiple complaints online with these same tires.this is very dangerous and it needs to be addressed soon.these tire failures have damaged my camper but, i'm just glad it did not cause a crash, injury, or death.

We have a 2017 cardinal 5th wheel, and in june 2018 we got back from camping and while in trailer emptying our things out we heard a loud band. It ended up being the driver side front good year marathon st tire that blew due to a large bulge on the inner side of the tire. We called goodyear and they said to find a goodyear place to have them replace and the dealer could deal with them. We are still waiting for our refund. Now sept 8th 2018 driving home to ca from ut we pulled into jean nv to get fuel and i noticed a bulge on the inner side of the front passenger tire. We put the spare on and continued on the road. We pulled over on the 58 frwy in barstow and checked tires and all was well. We continued on and we exited off the 58 in mojave a car came by and said we were on our rim. We pulled off the road and it was the rear passenger side tire.this had caused damage to the skirt of trailer, wheel well. Luckily there was a 24 hour truck and tire place, they said they would find something to get us home since we were only 20 mins. Away from home. We paid them $80 for the used tire and rim they found in their shop to get us home. Once we got home and pulled the slides out we found and tire flakes were inside the trailer, pieces of tire stuck under the slide, and damage to the fiberglass. Our insurance company is going after goodyear since this is the 3rd tire to have a problem. There needs to be a recall on all these marathon st tires. Goodyear needs to put safety as a priority, as if their own family was driving with these tires

The contact owns a 2010 jayco designer trailer equipped with goodyear marathon st tires, size: st 235/80r16 load range e, dot number: 0hun1lhr.the contact stated that the tread on the rear driver side tire separated, causing the tire to become flat.the tire was not repaired.the dealer and manufacturer were notified, but were in the process of discussing possible assistance with the defect.the failure and current mileage was 8,000.

About 10 hours into a 60-65 mph tow from atlanta on i-20 in 95 degree weather just past thela state border the rr goodyear marathon on my 30' enclosed 13,000 lb trailer exploded.. My tire pressure monitor system indicated 98 psi of pressure in that load range d tire and 105 degrees f temp. My front axle e load tires were reading 115 psi and 105 degrees f. No slow air leak occurred, the tire simply exploded catastrophically. I pulled safely to the side of the highway near an exit and installed one of the two spares i carry. The trailer sustained $300 in body damage and the adjacent front tire monitor ($65) was destroyed by flying carcass debris. The tire was exactly two years old, original to the trailer and had just 9,000 miles on it. Inspection prior to the trip revealed odd tread wear patterns but the good year tire shop i had inspect it theorized it was caused by rear-axle articulation in low-speed turns and of no concern to the integrity of the tire, nor a reflection of any trailer suspension alignment or loading issue.. I should have pulled the tire. I now believe it was foreshadowing catastrophic carcass separation caused by cumulative heat cycles. I had new valve stems installed as two were found leaking and i had the wheels balanced. No air loss, sidewall bubbles or other manifestations of problems were evident. Per the good year marathon service bulletin, i always run these tires 10 psi above the indicated cold sidewall pressure, for this load range d tire, that's 75 psi. For the e loads on the front axle, that's 90 psi, up from 80. This forest river work and play trailer was delivered to me from the manufacturer with incorrect tires -- d load instead of e load, which run right at 3,000 lb weight limit for the 6k axles. I have extensively weighted and adjusted my wd hitch andtrailer load to ensure all tire contact patches, suspension and hitch components are within their respective weight capacities.

Two tire failures belt separation.spare put on for first one and new tire purchased for second failure.normal driving, tires inflated to 80 psi and checked before each trip.after tire takes on a snow cone appearance it will run very hot and wear very fast.rv dealer is trying to get warranty on all five tires.seem to be going one after another.

The contact owns a 2011 keystone montana fifth wheel trailer with good year marathon tires, size: t235/80 r16. The contact stated that although he had not experienced a failure with the tires, the contact was concerned because of the numerous complaints online regarding the specific tire. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that there was nothing that would be done to correct the tires although, the manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle had to be driven under 65 mph to ensure that there were no failures.the contact had not experienced a failure. On sept. 10th 2018 our rv dealer checked the tire pressure in all tires before us leaving with the trailer to travel to elberta al. We left above location at approx. 0900hrs. In route to elberta al. At approx. 1330hrs. Near mile marker 52 on i65 sb tire 1 blew out we pulled over on the side of the interstate and changed the tire with the spare tire. We purchased a new tire to replace tire 1. Tire shop mounted the new tire back on & placed the spare tire back on the spare carrier & again checked tire pressure in all tires & they were at the correct psi. We left that location & traveled to our campground a few miles down the road.we stayed at our location until sept. 17th 2018. No picture available & we did not keep the tire of the first blowouton sept. 17th 2018 we left elberta al back in route to calera al at approx. 0930hrs. At approx. 1115hrs near mile marker 60 on i65nb tire 2 blew out. We pulled to the shoulder of the interstate. The blowout resulted in the tread wrapping around the axle and breaking system of the trailer. After many attempts to get the tread off the trailer and my husband causing injury to his arms from the wires of the tire, we contacted a towing company for assistance at the recommendation of towing services from the county sheriff's office. The tow owner arrived & was able to remove the tread and place the spare tire on.this blowout resulted in break damage to break 2 & skirt damage to the camper. We continued to our destination exiting i65nb in montgomery & traveling the rest of the way on hwy 31.on hwy 31 near the pine level 65 over pass tire 3 blew out. We were able to pull off into a gas station parking lot. We unhitched the trailer & had to drive to the nearest tire service center & replaced the tire from the second blow out to place on the 3rd blowout. I had approximately 8500 miles on the tires when traveling garden state parkway june 10, 2011, the left front tire exploded, leaving only mangled sidewall and damage to the wheel well.i found a goodyear dealer and replaced the blown tire with another marathon. The following friday afternoon, june 17, 2011, while traveling on i-64 westbound in indiana, the right front trailer tire exploded. After changing the tire,i continued on to my campground near shiloh, il, and obtained a towmax brand replacement tire. We began our next trip july 20, 2011. When i pulled into our campsite at columbia, mo, we noted that the left rear trailer tire was going flat, and could hear air escaping.i removed the tire and installed the spare.the next morning, i took the trailer and flat tire to mcknight tire and auto center, columbia, to have the tire repaired.they inspected it and stopped counting at six holes, all along the outer thread groove. After seeing the tire, i told them to also replace the right rear tire (the last of the original tires on the trailer) because i felt that it would also fail soon. When they removed the right rear, they noted tread separation and some steel belt was showing in the tread. The two replacement tires are westlake brand.i carry a 120 volt, 150 psi, 6 gallon porter cable air compressor in the trailer basement and check and adjust the cold pressure on each tire to 80 psi every morning before traveling. I think that this was a bad lot of tires which suffered from thread separation.

We own a 2013 keystone montana 3582rl 5th wheel trailer that we purchased september, 2012.the tires were goodyear marathon st235/80r16, e rated, dot #1512.the tires have less than 10,000 miles. On september 30, 2013, we pulled into an rv park in pendleton, oregon, and noted the left rear tire was flat.the roadside service, noted the tread was separating and the service provider estimated that we would've had a major blowout in only a few miles more.we had the spare put on to continue travel.when home, we took the tire to a goodyear dealer and they replaced it with a 50% credit noting that the tire was half worn according to their measurement.on further examination, we took the trailer to another goodyear dealer and they noted tread separation on all three of the other tires.again, tires were replaced with 50% credit.the tires were approximately 1 month out of the free replacement warranty period.the trailer has never been overloaded; we check the tire pressure every time we travel;and it's ridiculous to think these tires won't last beyond 10,000 miles or less at $160 each.we will not purchase goodyear tires again.

After going to the nearest les schwab dealer in napa idaho only to be told that all four tires were separating and needed to be replaced. 17th 2018.

All 4 tires were nominal just prior to failure. All tires have been maintained at the required cold pressure of 80 psi prior to every trip. The rv is stored indoors without any sun exposure.

Marathon tires forest river 5th wheel.this is the second report and will talk about 2 more tires blowing on the same day within an hour of each other. Tires checked for tire pressure before going on road. This was a 2 lane road heavily traveled. Going downhill at safe speed for weather conditions. We were going into a curve and a big explosion of tire and side of our rv head into the woods. Luck would have it there was a turn out just 75 feet from us. This first one took the fender off. The second blow out took place on 4 lane hwy that is heavily traveled. This time our family member behind see the tire blow and we pull over...unfortunately we are out of spares.we replace all tires with a different brand from a local brand who helped get us out of danger.terrible tires and goodyear blames us.
