My wife had a tire blowout on our 2002 ford expedition . Tires mounted on the vehicle were the general aw grabbers 17inch. We were informed last year a couple of months after vehicle was purchased that these tires had been recalled. We contacted dealership and took our vechicle in to another local dealership, andthey said no they had not been recalled even after we insisted they at least look at the tires. My wife and infant child were in the vechicle which caused extensive damage to the car but thankfully only minor bumps and bruises to my family. We are in the process of getting legal advice and have taken numerous pictures of the tire and had our own tech examine the tire.

All four tires showed significant cracking and splitting in the side walls. All four have been replaced.*jg

Own a 2000 ford expedition (original owner) and had tires replaced as part of recall of 2002.tires were replaced at local ford dealership with general grabber aw p275/60/r17.recently i noticed "steering" and "bumpy" ride, so i took vehicle to get it checked out.mechanic showed how one tire had "bowed out" feature and explained that this was a "tread separation" and needed to be replaced.remembering prior recall for same reason, was concerned this was a possible manufacturer defect.researched on internet and found # to call at continental to report.called and spoke with "bill" who recorded my concerns and created a file #22239.told me a could go to national tire and battery and have it checked out.went to ntb and the technician examined the tire and said he could not prorate the warranty.i explained that i just wanted to inform the manufacturer of the possibility of a manufacturer defect in case there were other complaints for the same type of tire.he said that with the apparent age of the tire it could have been caused by a bump that had caused the weakness.my expectations for a tire is for the tread to wear out before any other breakdown.

The tread on the left rear tire peeled away from the sidewayy. I have other tires seperate, but this by far was the cleanes seperation that i have seen. I was on vacation and had all other tires replaced and my cost. I never heard about the recall in 2002 and i am very agitated with this, becuase i would never put my family on unsafe tires. The tread hit the back tailgate and quarter pannel and cost a total of $1,650 in damage. Now my insurace company will deal with this "company".

While driving on the freeway, the left rear tire tread separated from the sidewall.the tread stayed intact with approximately 2 inches of sidewall extending from the actual tread surface.the separation was clean on the inside and outside, not torn apart.this occurred without any warning at 70 mph, almost causing a roll over.the air pressure was checked (by me personally) the previous weekend.all 4 tires were at 35 psi, and none of the tires had ever required adding of any air pressure.the tires had 4,600 miles on them at the time of the tread separation.the dealer was extremely helpful and replaced the tire and wheel without question.the employee at the dealership who i dealt with said this is a common occurrence and he sees it all the time.i told him that in 22 years of driving that i have never had a tire separation even remotely close to this.every day when i drive to work (12 miles each way) i see at least 2 new tire treads along the freeway that look exactly like the tread separation that we experienced.we have 6 photos of the tire, the separated tread and wheel, taken on the day of the incident, if needed.

I have a 2002 ford expedition suv with tire problems. I had a tire tread detachment separation on a general grabber aw tire p275/60r17 on 2/17/06. The same tires that are on my vehicle were recalledfor year 2000 and year 2001 ford expedition suvs in 2002 (reference nhtsa campaign id number 02t012000). I have called the ford company and they have told me they could not do anything about this problem. All the tires seem to have a slight vibration problem. It has not ridden smoothly since i bought the vehicle in 2002. I had ford check it in 2002 and they said it just had vibration due to it being a suv. The tire vibration became worse just before the tire failed and had the tire rubber detachment separation. I would like to see if you can help me to get ford to replace these tires and pay me for the tire that failed also. These tires are a safety hazard.

Tread on driver's side rear wheel was coming off. Reported to dealership they referred me to (3) tire dealerships. None of them said they don't give warranty's for those tires. While driving 35 mph the rear passenger side tire tread separated without warning. Please provide additional information.

Approximately on month and 1800 miles after purchasing the vehicle. The right front tread separarted from the sidewall. I took the tire to the dealer and was told they would replace the tire with one just like it but it had to be ordered and would be in a day or two. Four days later the tire was still not in but they took one off another vehicle and put it on mine. Two weeks later the same wheel, with the new tire, went flat again. This time the dealer told me to take it to the tire shop and have it checked out. I did so and was told the wheel had a leaking valve stem, was fixed free of charge and so far is still up. On 10-23 the right rear tire on my truck went flat. It as all the rest are also general grabbers. The only thing i can see that could be the cause of the rear tire flat is a rock stuck between the tread, though i haven't checked to see if it punctured the tire or not. I'm taking the truck to the dealer the next day or two to let them inspect it. I have done some research on the grabber aw and discovered that there is a recall on the 17" version. The dealer and ford have flatly refused to replace the tires with a trustworthy and safer tire. In light of all the problems ford has had with tires it appears to me they would be a little more careful with the quality of tires they put on the vehicles they manufacture. These tires are unsafe and dangerous, and although covered under ford's warranty, could be disastrous should another one of them separate. I would appreciate any help or guidance you could provide for me.sincerely bruce thompson
