A vehicle which is less than three years old suffers a failed clutch on the air conditioner. After checking into possible part recalls through nhtsa, a hard copy shows the layout of what the part should look like , with serial numbers to identify the part. Upon inspection of the compressor, no serial numbers were found, just what type of refridgerant should be used. This leads me to believe the part i now possess is not the original part that was used at time of manufacture. Further research has shown that this problem is frequent with the taurus, but my specific model has yet to be listed. I now wish to make it known. The theory of the part not being the original seems to be something that was passed over and suppressed from the consumer. Additionally, as of 09/15/00 one of the power windows failed and no longer works. This on a vehicle less than three years old. I previously owned a vehicle for ten years and never had these sort of problems. I wish to relay the information of what i have gone through with this model for the record. Thank you( dot number: tire size: p205/65r15 )

Both rear tires had tread separation and a blow out occurred on one of them .... The vehicle hadbeen to the dealers and had brake repairs at approx. 34,000 miles .from initial lease of vehicle, there were complaints of rough ride and apparent tire problems. The dealer never made any offer to correct the problem but balanced and rotated the tires.upon taking this problem to them on 09/04/2001 they disclaimed any knowledge or assistance in adjusting the obvious malfunction of the general tire which blew out... Upon taking the vehicle to a tire store and had them check the tires for any other damage they discovered that another tire had a separation of the tread and had a knot on the tire which was just beginning to ware. Alltires had proper air pressure.i have kept these tires for further investigation and complaint follow-up. (tiresize: 275x60r17)

Power steering problem - when you turn the steering wheel, there is an unusual noiseand you can feel a viberation while parked and while moving. I took this car to the dealer i purched the car from on sept. 14, 2001. Mr. Jay wakefield ,general manager and mr. Tom berry, service manager acknowledged my problem. However, both said the manufacturer was aware of the problem because it has happened to other cars. So far they have not found the solution. They also said i would have to live with the problem until the mfg. Notifies them what to do. I do not feel safe driving the car in this condition. The tires have been an on going problem since i purchased this car. Wakefield buick did put two new tires on several weeks after i purchased. The tires causes the car to viberate when you get up to 60 mph and up. I mentioned this problem to jay wakefield but he was not symphetic with my tire problem. I will have to put new tires on at my expense. I know several people that has bought buick lesabres and they had the same problem i am having. After purchasing a diffrent brand of tire the problem went away. (tiresize: p215/70r15)

The other tires on the truck (all the same original tires that came with the truck) show signs that they also may peel and/or separate. In october 2000 the state of arizona replaced all of their general tires because of peeling (i came across an article in the paper while researching if there was a recall on these general tires). These tires, with only about 6600 miles on them and plenty of tread left are a hazard to any driver having them on his/her car. Two of the general tires supplied as original equipment on this vehicle experienced tread delamination and formed large bulges in the tread area--about 12" in length x the tread width at approximately 25,000 miles--within a few weeks of one another--in mid 1995.both bulges occurred at highway speeds--65-70 mph.both occurred on rear tires.the truck included no cargo except for 2 to 3 occupants.the tread wear at the time of failure was about 60-70 percent, and at the time i did not believe such a defect was pursueable as a warranty item with the manufacturer.being somewhat concerned about the quality of these original tires, i then replaced all four of the tires with michelins, and have had no problems with these replacement tires.the original tires were consistently maintained at or near recommended tire pressures.given the recalls of firestone tires since then, i now suspect a manufacturing defect existed. All 4 tires on my 1999 chevrolet venture had cracking around the sidewall at the rim and just below the tread.when shown to a mechanic and a tire dealer they both agreed with me that it was the begining signs of side wall and or tread seperation.this was first noticed with only 28000 miles on the tires.replacing the tires at 31278 miles was the only safe thing i could do.this model tire was suposed to have more than 40000 mile tread life.the tread is still exceptable and the tire dealer said they would have lasted another 10 to 15 thousand miles.i could not risk my families life knowing they could come apart at any time.with all tire makers having the tread seperation problem maybe it is time to have the government inforce the safty requirernments in the current laws.the manufacturers will always put the minumum materials in to the products to gain the most profit.if the vehical would cost another $100 dollars per tire it would not change most peoples mind about buying it.i saw 6 other complaints about this model tire failing and think you should have another investigation to start soon. Both my right and left front tires have developed sidewall failures-one at under 12000 miles and one at under 15000 miles.tires have developed large sidewall bubbles or convexities of around 3 inches in diameter and 1 inch in height. Ford does not warranty the tires so i've had to deal with general tire. A person at the 800 phone number for general tire mentioned that this could be two isolated defects, perhaps a bad batch, or perhaps the tire selected by ford may not be appropriate for the weight of the vehicle. This is consistent with my concerns, as the truck has a diesel motor which is quite heavy, and both front tires developed the same problem early in the tires' treadwear. One tire dealer said he's seen it before, so i am concerned that the tire cannot stand up tot he weight of the diesel engine. Ford says to contact general tire, and general tire will only warranty the individual tire as it fails. Nobody seems to have the responsibility for warranting that the tire is appropriate for the vehicle. This may be two rare and isolated incidences, but i feel that 100% front tire failure is a safety concern that warrants looking into. I'd be interested in knowing what percentage of these tires are replaced on ford diesel-powered trucks, but only general tire knows the answer.( dot number: tire size: lt235/85r1 )

1st tire failed w/ tread separation oct, 2000. Did not report because thought was isolated incident. Then, on may 22, 2001, 2nd and 3rd tires of the original four failed with total tread separation within 125 miles of each other. We had to limp home on two used tires. We were extremely fortunate no one was hurt in any of the incidents. Initiated claim for may, 2001 failures through tire dealer. Per continental's request, i sent them both tires. They never acknowledged receipt of 2nd tire and refused to pay claim for 1st tire. They stated tire had at some point sustained puncture in tread area which had been repaired. This is possibly true. However, continental went on to state this caused gradual loss of air pressure which led to underinflation which led to tire failure. Not true. I religiously maintained proper air pressure in all the tires all the time. Their findings are based on assumptions which work for them but do not reflect the actual situation. I would sincerely appreciate any help you can afford me in this matter. We only have 30 days from 7-25-01 before they dispose of the tire. Since they rejected my claim, all attempts to reach the person @ continental with whom i was working has failed. Her name is kimberely somerville and her phone no. Is: 704.588.4164.
