Purchased truck in november 2007 with 17,000 miles. Truck now has 26,663 miles. No problems occurred with the braking system until september 2, 2008.while on vacation, stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, traffic began to move due to a green light.when the light turned red again, i pressed brakes to stop.experienced a horrible grinding noise and brakes would not work to stop the vehicle.very close to a collision.the abs light then came on and "abs fault" began to scroll.pulled off of the road, husband looked at brakes and could see no visible problems.shut the truck off and restarted it a moment later and the light and scrolling were gone.truck has done this everytime it has been driven since then.got a mechanic to read the code and he says the abs speed sensor on the left front wheel is bad and needs to be replaced.i have seen many complaints on the site reporting the same problem.also, several gmc trucks have been recalled for the same problem.this is a very dangerous issue.do we have to wait for someone to get killed for a recall to be issued?

I was driving a 2004 ford 150 pickup south on interstate 29 near glenwood iowa when the steering wheel began to vibrate.i tried to pull to the right to see what was causing it when the right front tire seemed to explode.i was able to pull off the highway to the right without losing control of the truck and got out to see what had happened.i found the right front passenger tire still inflated but without any tread on the tire.i also found half the running board was missing, and a small dent in the door just above where the running board used to be.i called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to tincher ford in glenwood iowa and had the tire replaced.this costwa s$157.00.i still didnot know what it wasgoing to cost to replace the running board.the mechanic mentioned he had never seen the tread on a tire separate the way this one did.i kept the old tire and replaced it with the exact same brand, a general ameritractr p255/70 r17.i am nervous about driving on these tires now with the fear of this reoccuring.i just heard there has been a series of accidents and even deaths caused by this tire.i would also like to recover the cost of the repairs to my pickup and tires.

Both incidents, involved the rear right hand tire position located directly behind the exhaust pipe exit. In both cases 90% of the tire shredded by itself down to the steel belts.tires remained inflated in both cases. Both tires had less than 20,000 miles on them. (one tire was a new replacement from the manufacturer, the 2nd was the original spare). The 1st incident occurred after 20 miles highway travel at 70mph, however the previous day the truck had completed 800 miles continuous highway driving. The 2nd incident occurred after 6 hours continous highway driving at 70mph.in both cases the incident began with severe "felt-like" wheel wobble, then immediate severe jolting and lurching of the truck across the highway lanes out of control. Fortunately no accident occured and i stopped safely. In the 2nd incident the shredding of the tire also ripped out the exhaust barckets, bent the exhaust pipe downwards (required re-bending to obtain decent road clearance). I reported the incident to ford customer service. I replaced both rear tires with new firestone wilderness tires at ford. I am now deeply worried that this will occur again, and to add insult to injury i hear there are now reports of firestone wilderness tires shedding. Is there a connection between general tires and firestone, both supplied by ford? is there a conection with the exhaust exhiting directly in front of the tire causing severe over heating of the tire? i shal be replacing the exhaust with a rear exit exhaust at mullinax..( dot number: a308443276 tire size: p235/70r16 )
The tire lost its tread doing great damage to the side of my truck. The tire did not loose air, it was still properly inflated. This is the second tire of my originals to loose the tread. The first one damaged my front fender.
Truck tire defective
The driver's side rear tire sidewall peeled apart on chevy 2008 silverado with ameritrac tires 245/70r17 with only 10,000 miles on vehicle.when i took the tire to the dealer, since it should have been under warranty they claimed it was due to a puncture in the tire. They also said it was from a piece of screw driver that was planet in the vehicle.the piece of screw driver wasn't there until the car was taken to the dealer, so not only didn't they fix the car they damaged it.
The contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500 with general ameritrak tires, size p245/70r17. The contact stated that the tread was wearing on all four replacement tires at 20,000 miles. The contact took the tires to the dealer who stated that since thewarranty expired there was nothing they could do. The contact did not call the tire manufacturer regarding the failure. The contact was concerned about the safety issue. The failure mileage was 41,000.
Repeated failure of tire valve stems resulting in flat tires. Dealer stated that the valve stems are not sufficient quality to run the stated tire pressure of 80 pounds. They suggested running lower pressure, 60 pounds, which is not safe when towing heavy loads or to purchase and install higher quality metal valve stems. Luckily all failures have been on dually tires, however this could happen just as easily on the front tires resulting in a major accident.
Tire tread is falling apart. Hunks and pieces are missing from tread all 4 tire. These are general ameritrac tire from the dealership on my 2010 chevy silverado. Dealer will comp them but our fleet is full of these tires doing this. Tires look almost like retreads. Size is p245/70r17. 13,600 miles on them. I have pointed this out on many vehicles wherever i see this tire especially on a silverado.
Tires are dry rotted and look very dangerous to drive on.they were installed as original equipment on my 2004 s10 blazer and have only 37,000 miles on them with alot of tread left.the sidewalls and between the tread are cracking.
Ford factory installed left front tire had tread seperation at ~70mph in apache county route 15 in arizona, a two lane road. Fortunate there was no traffic or could have been fatal, took entire road to regain control. Caused significant damage to my 2003 f250 est >$1000, flail type damage to fender (it ripped the bottom of the fender from the bolts and rolled the steel fender up into the well), damaged the bumper, well, etc. Easily could have cut brake lines and sensors, and could have reached the engine compartment components including steering. Possibly could have hit driver with open window. Tire is still inflated, half of tread appears intact, half is in several parallelagram type pieces. Tire is a general ameritrac, m+s 235/85 r16, load range e, 120/1160, 4 ply 2 steel 2 polyester, dk73916 32622,e4 009113
Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 50 mph, the rear passenger tire blew causing the vehicle to jolt backwards.this caused damage to the wheel well.the spare tire was installed and then the tire was taken to the dealership.there was body damage repaired.later, while traveling 55 mph the vehicle began to shimmy up and down then left to right.the driver side front tire blew out, the vehicle was pulled over and wheel well damage occurred.the vehicle was towed to the dealership; the vehicle has beenat the dealership since the incident in september.the manufacturer of the tire was alerted.the tires were sent to the manufacturer and it was determined the blowouts were a result of impact damage.updated 07/17/07.
Vehicle was shaking. Took to [xxx]inc.in syracuse, ny for alignment. Was told vehicle was in alignment. Was told that the steel belts in the tires were bad due to tires bulging on the outside and indented in the center of the tire. Would not recommend tire rotation. All 6 tires are effected. The worse tire passenger front was used in the data collected by this site. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
General ameritrac tr tires, size p255/70/17. I had to replace all 4 original equipment tires on my 05 ford f-150 4x4 after only 22,000 miles because the tread was separating from the tires to the point you could see the steel belts. Before that i had numerous punctures and repairs from things as light as a stick. I had nothing but troubles from these tires since day one and can't figure out why ford would put such a poor quality tires on there vehicles. I believe both general tire and ford owe me some kind of reimbursement for my trouble, time, and new tires. I was told by the ford dealer that replaced them that general tire would not honor any type warranty on these tires.
My daughter was driving my wife and grandson home from an errand.she was on the 202 e bound, getting ready to take the alma school exit, when a blow out occurred.the dodge durango (2001) rolled several times.my daughter was only slightly injured and my grandson was not injured.the car is totaled.
The contact owns a 2003 ford f350 super duty.the contact had a blowout on the front passenger side general ameri-trac tire.the tire is a factory tire with only 29,000 miles.the manufacturer has not yet been notified.the dot number was unknown.the current mileage is 29,130 and failure mileage was 29,000.
Dealership indicated that the tires were improperly made from the factory which did not allow them to be balanced, and they shimmied while driving.
I have a 2006 f150 crew cab 4x4 pickup with general ameritrac tr tires and 19,000 miles on them and the tires are shot . These tire came on the truck brand new when i purchase the truck from bev smith ford and the tires really suck im a very pissed off customer over these tires i shouldn't have to buy tires i think ford should replace them for free if they or you refuse to replace for free direct action will be taken!!!!!!!!!
Had a general ameri-tech go flat (613 miles on it) could find no holes or leak except from tire/rim seal. Ford dealer claimed it had a nail hole in side wall and i had to pay for a new tire myself. Again i attempted to air tire back up but it was leaking from tire at rim.
I bought a 06 chevy silverado pickup in june 06. The truck has 1800 miles on it and it has a bad vibration at any speed over 30 mph. I have brought the truck back to the dealer 4 times and each time they rebalance the tires. The last time i was there they let 5 lbs of air out of each tire. They are now telling me that it is "the nature of the beast" and the tires have to get broke it before the vibration will stop. The truck has general ameritrac p245/70/r17 tires on it. I took the truck to a local tire dealer and was told that the tires are out of round and loping causing the vibration in the truck. The dealer keeps giving me thesaying they are waiting for the chevrolet factory rep to come there. I an afraid to drive the truck with this vibration as i am unable to walk and use a wheelchair and i don't want to be broke down someplace with this truck. What can i do to get this problem resolved?
Tire separation,i was driving down the freeway at approx 70 mph when the right rear tread separated from my tire causing extensive damage to my f250 2003 ford pick up truck.my truck surged to the right and i corrected back to my lane.there were no injuries to the passengers of my truck or any other vehicles.this is the second time this has happened in 2 years.these are the original tires with only 38,000 miles on them.the tires are general ameritrac lt 235/85/r16.
Currently i have the general ameritrac tires on my vehicle ( 245 70r17), i am writing because i am concerned about the tires that it on my 2005 chevy silverado. I have noticed vibrations at speeds over 80 mph (on a rare response to a fire call in personal vehicle). Also the tires have not held up at all i noticed uneven tread wear at 10,000 miles and with rotation and balancing it seems to be worsening, the tire tread currently (31,000 miles) is withering to the point it is unsafe and seems to want to hydroplane very easily ( done this new also). I have others with the ameritracs and some have worn better but seem to have the same hydroplane characteristics. I am having these replaced with a different brand asap.

General ameritrac tires on a 2006 gmc sierra crew cab2wd are showing excessive wear and tread loss. Thetires haveonly 24000 miles and need to be replaced.during a recent rainstorm i was hydroplaning on the freeway. The tires have hardly any tread left on the outside of the front tires.the tires will be replaced in the very near future.

Severe blowout. Tire looks as though it was shot full of holes! going 65 mph on heavily traveled highway.
I recently had my truck serviced and the dealership found that one of my tires, a general ameritrac p245/70/r17 had belt separation.i insisted that this is a defect.they have yet to remedy the problem.i a concerned that the other tires, including my spare may incur this issue and lead to an accident.

Driving on i10 near casa grand az oct 4 2013 noticed vibration. Pulled over and inspected tires and all ok. Drove slower and headed to home... Heard bang... Heavy rumble vibration pulled over with flat tire and incredible delamination damage to tire and wheel well.
While driving on the freeway at 60 mph, driver's side rear tire exploded from the sidewall. When this occurred, driver lost control, and went off the road.other 3 tires and spare were splitting at the sidewall. Cause of the failure was undetermined.
Dt: while traveling on the interstate at 60 mph the left rear tire blew out.the tire completely shredded, no evidence of a previous puncture.pulled to the right side shoulder of road on a bridge and called for tow truck.tow truck came , removed tire and placed the spare on.the tire is now at auto repair shop from where it was purchased.had not contacted general tires, but wished for someone to investigate the tires.the tire was replaced with a goodyear tire.general tire, ameritrack, p255/70r16.

I currently drive a 2009 chevrolet silverado with general ameritrac tires. These tires seem to have pre mature wear on the edges and flat spots. All have rotated etc and tire pressure checked and monitored. I feel like these tire are a safety hazard and should not be used. Tire size is 245 70 r17.
My tires started falling apart around 11000 miles.the sidewalls are indenting and the tread is coming off the tire as well as extreme feathering.the dealer has tested the alignment and balance.i currently have 13000 on my truck and finally got the dealer to replace them but only with the same brand of tire.
Tire failure.destroyed my outer fender on 2003 f350 duallydamaged included, outer fender, inner fender, damage to the bed of the truck, and damage to the support brackets.bought this truck used about a month ago.not sure when the tires were purchased.mileage on tires is an assumption
We have had problems with the general ameritrac tr p255/70r17 tires on our truck. Within the last 3 months we have had to replace 3 tires, they are very easily punctured. We have not done out of the ordinary driving. It is normal ground and normal driving. When the tires go flat, the puncture sites are too big to plug. Our mini van tires hold up much better than these truck tires. Is anyone else having this problem? the truck and tires are only a year old and the tread is still good.
The consumer stated the vehicle had problems with 3 of the 4 tires which range from a tire blow out to tread separation. When the tire blew out the consumer was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and had an accident with another vehicle.
I have a 1999 lincoln navigator 2wd with general ameritrac tr tires. Tire size p245/75/16 and the tires have maybe 50% wear on them. I have had both rear tires blow out on the freeway at two different times. I know that i didn't hit anything. Also in both tire failures i first noticed tire vibration, then noise, then the tire blew out. When i first noticed the vibration i was traveling on the freeway at approximately 65 to 70 mph and when the tire finally blew out i was traveling about 55 mph. I have four general ameritrac tr tires in my possession except for the first tire that blew out a couple of months ago. The tires are no longer on my vehicle since i feel they are very unsafe.

I own a 1998 f150 approx. Two and a half years ago i purchased a set of 4 general ameritrac suv tires from sears, size p225/70 r16 109s. Within a period of one year and a range of 18 to 28 thousand miles, three of the tires have had the tire separate from the steel belts, the last which happened today, almost killed me. Something is wrong with the manufacture of these tires. I do check the pressure on a regular basis, every 2 to 3 weeks. I still have the last two tires that have failed.
Vehicle was shaking. Took to [xxx]inc.in syracuse, ny for alignment. Was told vehicle was in alignment. Left for trip from phoenix to texas. Stop to fuel for the trip. Check tire air pressure and fueld up. Drove to texas. Left for phoenix and stopped for fuel and checked tire pressure. Around 11pm just outside tucson i heard a loud thump and my front end started shaking violantly. I was travelling 75mph and released my foot off the gas and hung on the strearing wheel. I slowed to a stop and pulled of the interstate. Got out and inspected the right front tire of my f350 dually and found the tread had sperated from the tire. Due to saftey reasons, i deciede to limp to the nearest station about a mile away. The tire still had some pressure in it. I change the tire, inspected the damage, and decided to continue the 150 miles home at a much slower pace.
My front tire tread separated from the tire on my truck while doing 75 mph. I also spoke with another guy that has his tires listed on craigslist that had the same problem.

Repeated failure of tire valve stems resulting in flat tires. Dealer stated that the valve stems are not sufficient quality to run the stated tire pressure of 80 pounds. They suggested running lower pressure, 60 pounds, which is not safe when towing heavy loads or to purchase and install higher quality metal valve stems. Luckily all failures have been on dually tires, however this could happen just as easily on the front tires resulting in a major accident.
