Tread separated on three separate occassions.

Was returning from charleston, sc to columbia, sc sunday 7/28/02 about 7:00 pm after a hot day on interstate 26.after about an hours travelling time, in which the car felt out of alignment or tires out of balance due to bad roads in charleston, there was a loud bang, the car pulled or fishtailed in heavy bumper to bumper traffic.i compensated steering and was able to slow and pull to the side of the interstate.the other vehicles surrounding me moved and/or slowed to give a wide berth.i had thought that perhaps an axle or cv joint had broken, but upon walking and looking around the car i found all tires fully inflated, but then noticed that the rear tire behind the driver's seat had about two thirds of it's tread layer missing and bare steel wires were exposed.i went online and looked up general tires, read about stress cracks appearing where the treads met the sidewalls, then inspect the only other general tire left on the vehicle- it had continuous small cracks there.i called the manufacturer, who would only participate partically in the tire replacement cost if i used their tires again- i refused their brands and bought goodyears instead.we were fortunate to have lived through the tread coming off, and i'm not sure that anyone else that may have driven the car would have!

2nd tire of 2 tire blowout at same time.tread separated from casing on both tires.

I was traveling on i 69 near indianapolis, in, when left rear tire blew out at the area where tread meets sidewall.i nearly lost control of vehicle but was able to slow and get off road, nearly rear ended by a large semi truck following too closley.these tires were replacement by ford motor because of the problem with firestone original equipment tires.i was afraid to drive with these general tires because of the blowout.i requested the ford dealer who replaced the firestone tires with general tires to replace all 4 tires with new tires, but they refused.i was told that if they replaced tires in these situations they would have to go out of business.it seems they are more concerned with their finances than the safety of myself and my family.i have since purchased 4 new michelin tires at my own expense and feel much safer.i was disappointed with the way i was treated in this matter, it was not through any fault of my own.the dealer even sugguested that i may have caused damage to the tires when parallel parking by hitting the curb, but i do not parallel park this vehicle and i am the only driver.i think ford should reimburse me for the $600 i spent so i may drive a safe vehicle.

Vehicle had factory original full size spare general ameri550 as with less than 400 total miles driven had tread separation, virtually all the tread came off and tire stayed inflated while driving at highway speeds.this tire had never been driven on previously and was in as new condition when i installed it just two weeks ago rim and all when i had a flat in my regular tire.after recovering the tread i found that the rubber appeared more brittle and had suffered severe wear in less than 400 miles, there were bits and pieces of rubber missing from the tread from driving on my gravel road, the other tires of different brand remain in great shape after thousands of miles.i could have lost control easily.vehicle is a 98 f150 2wd.

Cracking near the rim all the way around with signs of separation at the sidewall/tread area. (tiresize: lt225/75r1)

Had a flat tire and found a 3" slit of dry rot and when store insp. My tires, three were dry rotted with the 4th on the borderline.this was a very dangerous situation for my family and i.we had just been on the interstate doing 65 mph with these tires.how many more families are riding on these type of tires?

Ameristar tires!! are they good tires? my opinion is no, no, no! i have 16,000 miles of granny-like driving on my 2003 ford f-150, with the original ameristar tires provided stock on my truck. We don't get that much rain in california but every time it does rain i notice that i have to drive even more cautiously than i ever have. I slide all over the place even when the tires were brand new. Well today i merged onto the freeway at approximately 55 mph, while everyone else was passing me in there little tiny cars at 75 mph. I hit a puddle and that's all she wrote. I slid across 4 lanes and smashed into the center divide. This is just another example of car manufacturers and just about everyone else cutting corners to save a buck and risking the lives of children, mine was in the car, and consumers. I have already read that ameristar tires are falling apart anyway and ford should rectify the situation and replace those garbage tires with something better. Now, after i have just about killed myself and my daughter, i have come to the conclusion that something needs to be done about this situation. Please help!!! i have to pay for the damage done to my truck and my higher insurance rates because of a cheap product. "aw he's probably a bad driver." you say, well i have driven thousands of miles in trucks in rainy, snowy weather and have never had any problems with hydroplaning. Get rid of your ameristar tires right away if you live in rainy areas.

Vibration in drive train before and after replacement of driveshaft, noise in front end, possible defective tires.

On 2 occasions within the last 6 months, i have had 2 tires on my 2000 chevrolet express truck fail due to tread separation.the tire is the "general ameri 550 as" with the tire dot stamp of "ad1l d7a 309". The general ameri 550 was the tire that ford later pulled as the recommended replacement to the firestone tires. My truck was purchased in 2002 with <100 miles. Now has 23930. Many deaths have been contributed to this tire made in the same time frame.

General ameri gs60 tires, original equipment, tire size p255/60r16, dot# acxokni801, unable to balance the tires, causesvehicle 2001, buick, lesabre to bounce severly.all tires were replaced, and problem still occurring. Feel free to provide any further information concerning this matter.

I would like to know with whom i can file a complaint.i have defective tires on my 2003 dutchmen rv and have had two tires of the same type (general tires lt-225-75r16, ameri*550as) separate the tread from the casing while parked beside my home.i replaced both tires in front when the first one was defective and now the one in the rear did the same thing.i was just fortunate not to have had this happen while i was driving.i now feel i must replace all four tires in the back and the spare as a matter of safety.who do i address this to.i appears there should be a class action suite to make the tire manufacture replace or pay for these defective tires. My tires have only 10,000 miles on them and a lot of tread.i also took pictures of the tire before, and the one now to document this.

We have a 1997 chev one ton truck with 6 tires.we checked our tires yesterday and found them to have cracks in several of the side walls and one even seemed to be starting a bubble.these tires have been maintained by air pressure checked and rotated.there is about 27,000 miles on these tires lt225/75/r16

2000 chevy k3500,i have had 5 tires replaced under warranty tread seperation. None of them had the tread come completely off due to the fact that i am a shop foreman/technician with 25 years in the businessand maintain my vehicle religiously. Pressure was adjusted to 65 front and rear when towing. 65 front and 50 rear when using as a daily driver. None of these tires had puncture repairs during thier use. They all seperated in the exact same place, the outside two rows of tread is were it would start. Front or back it didnt matter. The truck would develope a vibration and i would bring it in and have the tires checked.they were ameritrac 550 as 245/75r16. I have wittnessed many tires of this size and brand develope the exact same condition and many of them will blowout and damage the vehicles severly. I finally replaced all of them with a different brand because i didnt feel confident that they were safe to travel out of town on. I retained the tires that came off with the exception of the one that had seperated for the last time. I work for one of thousands of gm dealers acrossed the country and i am shocked at the number of tires that we see with defects. My current position is shopforeman and yes i am in charge of the tire department. The other brand that i see alot of with complete tread seperation and the tire is still holding air is the firestone steeltex 245/75r16. I am note sure how all the politics work between the tire man. And the auto man. But it sure seems that alot of this must be going unchecked by the agencies that are regulating defects. I write as a concerned citizen.
