I have a 2002 ford f-350 super duty with dual rears. The truck came with seven general tires, 23585r16. Of the seven tires, four have failed suddenly and unexpectedly with tread/ply separation and blowouts. The most serious was a left front that suddenly blew out in very heavy traffic on i-35 just south of the twin cities and at 70 mph. That failure was a very near accident, but other drivers were able to get out of my way as i fought to retain control and get the vehicle stopped.the other three blowouts were on the rear and the dual wheels saved me from a serious loss of control. Two other original tires showed evidence of similar problems and were removed from service before failure. Only one of the seven original tires has not failed and that one has spent most of its life as a spare. So overall six out of seven tires have prematurely failed by tread/ply separation with four potentially life threatening failures.
Had 2 general ameritrac tires model# m&s lt235/85r16 treads completely ripped off the tires on two separate incidents, all within 16 days of eachother causing approx $8000.00 in damage & injury to my eye area. These tires need to be recalled before others are injured or loss of life occurs.
The consumer experienced a tire failure.
General ameritrac tr lt23585r16 tread separation on tires made 3304 year month.i have had 3 failures on the last month...
On june 12, 2008 we were driving up route 301 north just after the rt. 50 split when there was a blow out on the left front tire on our truck.it was frightening and i was barely able to control the truck and get to the break down lane.i observed a portion of the tire flying off to my left.we called the md state highway patrol and an officer responded and examined the wheel and remainder of the tire.this was a classic case of tread separation and there was over $2000 of damage to the left front fender, bumper and running board of the truck.geico handled the insurance claim and the truck has been repaired.all of the tires on the truck at that time were general grabber tr, lt 235/85r16, dk-6559 32628
We have a ford f350 4x4 dully with general ameri-trac tires. Was traveling on i-20 interstate with cruise set on 70. All of a sudden it started snowing rubber. Though tire never went flat, it caused $2,540.00 in damage to the vehicle, and a very scared woman whose presence of mind averted a life-threatening calamity the tires are the original with plenty of tread still on the tire. There were no injuries. Load range e lt235/85r16. Is there a recall on these tires? by our inspection, and our customary maintenance of these tires and vehicle, no cause for this near calamity existed, except the tire itself.
1.left front tire on 1999 ford f350 four wheel drive dually with 18,800 odometer miles started to shake at highway speed approximately 10 seconds before tire blew from cord separation.tire has almost full tread depth as new tire.it is a general grabber tr in 235/85-r16 size that was equipped as original equipment on this vehicle.tire was inflated to manufacturers specified air pressure of 65 psi.all seven tires on this vehicle had been recently checked (within the last week) for proper inflation and any abnormalities.i was not towing a trailer.there were four adults in the vehicle at the time of this incident.2.tire blew violently, causing vehicle to swerve into oncoming lane of traffic.fortunately, there was no oncoming traffic at that time.tire remains ruined fender, abs system, bumper guard, and inner fender well, along with wheel and other components before vehicle could be stopped from 60 miles per hour.3.i was able to limp homeapproximately 100 miles using spare tire, and wiring, fender well, etc. Out of contact with tire. I do have the defective tire.
- the contact called regarding the2005 gmc sierra.the passenger'sfront tire was replaced by the dealer at 6000 miles because there was no tread left on the tire.the driver'sside front tire had worn unevenly, and the passenger'sfront tire was starting to wearout as well.the failure mileage is 9,691.the dealer stated the reason for the premature wear was because the vehicle was out of alignment.the contacttookthe vehicle to an independent dealer, and was told that the vehicle was aligned according to gmc specs.gmcoffered to give the contact $500 towards the purchase of new tires, butthe contact refused the offer.the current mileage was 9,691.

In november 2007 my right front tire exploded without warning.two years ago the left front tire exploded.thank fully there was no traffic on the highway either time, which prevented an accident and damage to others.my truck damage totaled about $ 3500 to $ 4000 for each event.the fender and running board and other items on the truck were damaged by the exploding tire / tread that came apart.the tires were oem, general grabber tr, 235 85r16 load range e.the vehicle is a 2002 f 350 dually. Both happened on the highway at 70 mph.i sent the last failed tire to general and they claim that the tire was damaged due to an impact, not a manufacturing defect.i disagree, the tire just unzipped itself.the truck has only been driven on highways and local streets.i have not hit any potholes.though we all go over speed bumps, a load range e tire should be able to go over a speed bump at slow speed.tires were properly inflated to 60 psig.tread life on the tires is excellent.for two failures for me, a similar failure for a co-worker and several complaints on diesel truck message boards, there appears to be a trend of exploding 10 ply general tires.i think this should be investigated.the company no longer manufacturers this specific tire.
Background: original general tires on 2003 f350 dual-tire truck, approx 30,000 miles. Tire size is lt235/85r16.1 week prior to incident, all tires were rotated, balanced and pressure was per manufacture specs at local tire store.failure: after driving approx. 1 mile from home, left-outer rear tire tread separated from belts damaging light wiring, and destroying fender well. (pictures can be sent if desired). Tire was sent to manufacturer.tire did retain air and did not blow since it was a double tire area.tire was removed by owner after reducing tire pressure as a safety precaution. Since we were unsure if another tire separation was upcoming , we have removed all 6 tires and replaced them with another brand. Estimates have been completed at the local repair shop to replace fender well and wiring. Luckily no other vehicles were hit by the flying debris, nor were any injuries incurred.

Pulling a fifth wheel trailer on i 75 about 50 miles north of tampa florida. 95 degrees and speed at 65 mph, i had a blowout. I was able to control my truck and get to the side of the interstate. About $5000 in damages was done to my truck.i filed a complaint with general tire and sent the old tire to them for inspection (only 32000 miles on tire lt235/85r16). They claim the tire was damaged before blowout and would not be responsible for damages. I contacted my insurance company (nationwide) they have several cases of blowouts of this same tire. I believe someone other than general tire should inspect these blown tires.
Tire tread seperation.
Tire tread separation:tire tread separated while towing 5th wheel trailer at 60 mph. Tire located rear, passenger side of pickup truck. Tire inflated to correct pressure of 80 psi.tire info: general grabber aw lt 235/85r16 load range e
Partial tread separation/loss of approximately one-third of the tread with no advance indication of any tire trouble. The entire incident at freeway speeds (65-70) lasted no more than 15 seconds from the time i heard something hit my left front fenderwell until the chunk of tread flew off, (damaging my lower rear fender) and i came to a full stop. Thankfully, the tire did not deflate. My dually pick-up has a full set of these tires to include the the spare which replaced the defective tire. Should i continue to drive on these tires? the entire set has under 26,000 miles of light duty use.*la
I was driving and my left rear outside dual tire tread separated. I was barely able to keep control of the vehicle. My truck and camper sustained approx 5,000$ damage. While i was at the ford dealer there was a 2003 f-250 withbody damage caused by the exact same tire.
