The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet avalanche 1500.the vehicle had firestone wilderness le tires when the vehicle was purchased..the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the tires rotated.after the rotation, while driving approximately 40-50 mph, the contact heard a thumping sound coming from the vehicle.the vehicle was driven back to the dealer and the failure was repaired.she was never verbally informed of the cause of the failure; however, the invoice stated that the tire wear was caused by the alignment.the invoice also stated that the negative camber was very close to the outer limit, which would still cause tire wear.approximately a month later, the thumping noise returned and currently persists.the dealer was notified of the persisting thumping sound and they replaced one tire that was worn; however, the failure continued.the manufacturer stated that they were not liable for the repairs. The current mileage is 47,773 and failure mileage was 26,475. Updated 03/24/09.*ljupdated 03/24/09.

Consumer states that the 2 front inner section of the tire, thread is wearing away.tire is very bumpy looking and the rear tires have the same problem but to a lesser decree.theirs a recall but consumer serial number is off by 1 digit.contacted dealer, this maybe as a result of the front alignment needing to be aligned.size p265/70r16.please include dot #.

Blowout (outside sidewall). Tires were used on a 2001 chevrolet tahoe with only 17,000 miles use. Speed of the vehicle at time of incident was approx 60mph. This occurred at night when temperature was about 58 degrees.i have included this information so you can see that neither excessive speed or temperature was a contributing factor. Ts

The complete tire id is 31520exbm2030t-2.the tire seperated in the sidewall at 70 mph on a strait rural highway at 60f temperature.i was able to control the vehicle enough to pull off the side of the road and replace the tire without incident.just thought i should report it.there is almost no visable wear on the tire prior to the blowout.dt

The contact owns a 2006 gmc yukon xl 1500. While driving60 mph the right front tire side wall blew out. The contact lost control of the vehicle; however, he was able to drive to the nearest service station. The vehicle was towed and three tires were replaced. The tire dealer advised him to speak with the manufacturer regarding the failed tire. The failure and the current mileages were 25,358. The tire was firestone, tire line wilderness le, size p-265-70-r16, and the dot is 11m-s.

While driving on highway (i-70 sb)my left front tire suddenly went flat. Initially it felt like i was traveling over a seried of minature bumps, this lasted approximately 30 seconds, then the steering became difficult/sloppy: at that point i was made my way to the shoulder of the road, fortunately i had room to get over at an easy pace without having to veer sharply, i gradually made it to the shoulder. As i neared the shoulder i sensed the tire was no longer between the rim and the road. I was able to stop within approximately 10 seconds of that sensation. After stopping i immediately exited the vehicle and inspected the tire. I found the left front tire to be completely ruined. The entire sidewall (outer sidewall) was detached from the tread. It looked as if someone took a sawsall and cut the entire perimeter of the sidewall. Luckily two west chester police officers discovered my situation and provided warning lights to alert traffic, while i changed the tire and spare. This all happened on08/01/2002 at approximately 5:00am. My father and 13 y/o son were with me.i went to schmitt huelsman auto mall (where i purchased the tahoe) and i asked to have all tires replaced, requesting a different brand. The service manager was not authorized to do this. For now he is going to replace the defective tire with the same brand. I prefer not to have this same brand. I have absolutely no confidence in this brand of tire. At this time the dealer is in possession of the defective tire.

Right rear (passenger side) tire "let go" while driving down the interstate south of pueblo, co. The tire did not blow out.tread separation was the outer side of the tread and sidewall.tire failure was not caused by low air pressure as all had been checked that morning (34lbs).no nails or other punctures were observed by me or the dealer.this tire failed because it was faulty. The local firestone rep assumes no responsibility for the product failure. All 4 tires were new and had about 30,000mi on them. (dot number: w272wl1499tiresize: p265/70r18)

Tire blew after being on the road for 2 hours. Swant graber motors (715)537-3247 who replaced the tire said the blowout was due to road hazzard i'm not buy that.they showed me a puncture in the sidewall.how can a puncture occure going down the freewayat 75 mph. Blowout of right, rear tire occurred while driving freeway speed (with 3 kids in car)in los angeles. Crash could have been fatal, because we veered into lane to the right, but driver(my husband) handled truck professionally (no braking) and we drifted.(dot number: natiresize: p265/70r16)

While driving on highway, experienced severe vibration x 3 times. Tires have been computer balanced last thursday and i took suburban in for a check today after severe front end vibration while driving on highway at 70mph. I could not reproduce the vibration with the service forman in the car. The front end vibration has stopped now without any further adjustment from service department. I thought you would want to know about this situation since it is a firestone tire that had previously been recalled last year. My tires do not have the recalled serial numbers on it. I am very pleased with terry cullen cheverolet service. But concerned about the vibration if it returns again. Could this be a normal process for these tires?

I took new suburban in twice for vibrations and pulling. Chevrolet claimed nothing wrong. Tire blew out on 12/26/01. Chev said that it was not there problem. Firstone said they would replace the one tire but that chev had to pay for damage to suv. Chev said they will not as they can not see inside of a tire. Now the 800 firestone says i have to mail in the tire and they will investagate as to if it was a tire defect. The local firestone already said it was. Attorney said not to mail in the tire. Firestone refuses to fix damage and to buy tires back that are only 5 months old. These people should be put out of business. Local firestone says they will buy tires for 25 dollars each only if i replace them with more firestone tires. I have a 40k suv i refuse to drive because of firestone. I want the suv fixed and tires put on from another company. (tiresize: p26570r-16)

I have had 2 catastrophic failures on the subject firestone tires @ 60 and 70 mph respectively.firestone would not replace the first tire in may, 2001.after the second failure, 8/30/02 i found a recall call notice on firestones website for the wilderness le tires manufactured in mexico(which mine were) however it only covers dot#v672wl21700.i have appealed to the local firestone dealer without any satisfaction.my concern is that the problem extends beyond the recall notice and someone will be seriously injured before firestone is forced to make a broader recall.

Consumerwas washing vehicle with pressure washer when it tore the side walls on all four tires. Chevrolet will replace tires original equipment on chevrolet, tahoe 2001 p265/70r16.

While driving at approximately 45 mph along texas hiway 242, a relatively new hiway with uniform road surface in good condition (north of houston). Vehicle is a 2003 chevrolet suburban. A loud buzzing sound was heard similar to that produced by the ribbed edge-of-roadway warning strip found on some hiways. I at first thought the character of the road surface had changed; then, a few seconds later, the passenger side rear tire collapsed suddenly. Upon stopping on the shoulder i found that the tire tread surface had separated from the sidewall on the outside of the tire and around the entire circumference of the tire just at the manufacturing seam where these two components are joined. Five radial rips had also occurred in the sidewall leading from about the middle of the sidewall to the separated tread/sidewall seam. The tires were standard equipment on the vehicle (purchased in may 2003) and have been driven approximately 25,500 miles. The tread is still very deep. The tires are firestone wilderness le p265/70r16 111s type.

While driving with my 3 children and preagnant wife we experienced a total failure of the left rear tire. I was traveling about 80mph, i heard a repeating thud which sounded like the thud produced when driving over expansion joints, however, i noticed it was louder than typical and didn't coincide with expenation joint timing.i took my foot off the gas and began to slow down by coasting.all this transpired in about 4 to 10 seconds.then bang, we hear a loud noise, and our vehicle rear drops.i looked behind me and i see tread and peices of tire flying everywhere.i coasted for a few seconds, not wanting to upset the balance of the vehicle and then gently applied the brakes.we stopped.the only thing left on the rim were the two side walls.there wasn't any tread left.i have since retrived the tread.the tread is separated from the carcus of the tire.i assume this is the repeating thud sound i heard.then the tire carcus and tread ripped completely from the side walls.my rim is scratched and dented.gm says this cost $480.tire is obviously gone.about 2,000 miles earlier i had firestone, check, and rotate tires on the vehicle and after the incident i checked the other tires and tire pressures where 35psi +or - 2psi.upon examination of the tread that came off tire it can be seen that there is a puncture which looks like a nail or screw penetrated the tire.my gm dealership is saying that this caused the tire pressue to go down and i drove on it so it got hot and this caused the faulure.i believe that the tire may have lost some pressure, but i think it was probably a slow leak.my wife and i didn't notice a low tire by the way the vehicle was handling.it is my belief that the low pressure may have precipitated the tire failure, but the tire was defective because it shouldn't have failed so catastophically with only a minor tire pressure loss.if the tire would have been almost flat, then we would not have felt the vehicle drop.

While traveling on a highway at approximately 70 mph there was a loud pop sound from the front right of the vehicle that sounded like a rock hitting the inside of the fender.we continued to travel another mile or so, not realizing that our tire had just "popped".the tire proceeded to go flat. *la

My vehicle, a 2001 chevy suburban is equipped with firestone wilderness le p265 7or/16, and was part of the recall as seen on the firestone settlement website, which also included a list of affected tires to nhtsa pe00-020.as stated on the legal notice, "although firestone's recall and replacement programs were completed prior to the settlement, if a member of the class has not replaced, recalled or replacement tires that are still in use on his or her vehicle, firestone will replace those tires without charge if the vehicle is brought to a firestone tire service center."went to a firestone tire service center and the store manager (alfonso) said that he "could not replace" the tires because he was unaware of the recall notice, to that particular tire.spoke to a different manager (doug) and its supervisor (sandy) and both of whom are unaware of the recall situation.recommended to call 866-345-0360. She also took my information down in order to relay it to someone else in the company for call back. I called the number she gave me and received recordings that detail what the settlement web site describe. I would like firestone to abide by the proposed settlement as soon as possible.*la

The rear driver side tire blewout while driving 65 mph.firestone wilderness le tire.. The gm dealer replaced the tire with another firestone tire.

Complete tread peeled off. Sent to firestone and they said that they were not responsible because the tire was operated with "insufficient air pressure"!!!v672wl10200 should also be recalled!!! (note: the d.o.t. Field cut off last number???) mr

As i was driving, i hear a noise coming from outside and could feel roughness in the ride and the steering. I pulled over within 30 seconds to find that my tire was 80 % flat. Upon replacing the tire isaw that there was no evidence of puncture or nails to the tire. Afew minutes later after i had put my spare tire on, i stopped and inflated the flat tire to see where the damage might be. After inflating to about 10 psi i stopped because i noticed that the sidewall near the outside edge(near tread) had a very soft spot that i could have probably pushed my finger through. It was almost as soft and thin as a inner tube. Then i also noticed several lumps about 1 to1 1/2 inches in diameter almost all the way around the tire casing near the outer edge. This was all on the white letter side of the tire. I briefly look at the back side but did not notice anything. All the time i never heard an air leak, although an hour later it was flat again. As i stated earlier i only put appx. 10 psi. When i saw the knots appear i stoped in fear of the casing rupturing. It definitley appears to be an internal problem such as belt or ply separation. Before i contact chevrolet or firestone i wanted to bring this to your attention since i think this might be related to the current problem the the other recalled tires and did not want the evidence(my tire)possibly lost or destroyed with you having a chance to see it if you wish. Non the less i now need a spare, so i have to do something soon. I will keep the defect though. I really do not want to put another firestone on mytruck.until today i thought the problem was only on the 235 tire.me and my family need your help to assure us that my firestones are safe or should i be looking for another tire. Please advise soon as possible. Thanksgeorge( dot number: v672wli070 tire size: 265/70r16 )

After owning my 2002 gmc yukon xl, i noticed uneven tired tread wear at about the 5000 mile mark.when my vehicle was taken into the carriage motors company service department for my vehicle's 7500 service, i mentioned my concern for manner in which my tires were wearing.both the front and back tires had the same tire wear since they had been rotated at 5000 miles.the tread wears unevenly on the inside of both the front tires, causing excessive tire noise from inside the cabin and more importantly, the vehicle pulls from side to side.most noteably right after the tires are rotated.i have since complained on numerous occassions to carriage motors and each time was given the response that it is normal tire wear for a gmc yukon.second opinions were sought from different tire dealerships in the temecula area, with all stating that it is not normal.my concern is for my wife and three children, as my spouse is the primary driver of this vehicle.the vehilce handles very poorly on the freeway and most recently, having received some rain in our local area, i was alarmed at how poorly the vehilcle handled on the wet roads.a local tire company in my area stated that my tires on not contacting properly with the road, which results in poor handling.in addition, the carriage motor company stated the reason for the manner in which the tires wear for "yukons" was the design by gmc in an attempt to make a smoother ride for this vehicle.i am seeking the nhtsaassistance in this matter as i have exhausted all efforts with the carriage motors and gmc customer assistance.if your agency is unable to assist me please direct me to the appropriate agency that will provide assistance in this matter.dt

Right front tire blew out.dealership claims a nail caused the entire sidewall to blow out.we strongly disagree with them.the tire wasn't leaking air, wasn't underinflated, there were no steering problems, and the tire didn't show any sign of wear. Tire valve stem failure.all four of my valve stems failed from what appears to be dry rot within a four week period. I was traveling down the interstate at 70 mph when my right front tire blew out. The valve stem had rotted off.after putting on my spare tire, i proceeded to my destination.two days later, i had a flat in the parking lot at work. The valve stem had rotted. I check my other tires, and the valve stems on them were rotted also.these tires only have about 20,000 miles on them. The valve stems are that old as this is the third set of tires/stems i have put on my tahoe. The allstate service truck helped change the tire on the side of road. I was traveling on the florida turnpike, about 30 miles north of ft. Pierce florida when the event occurred. A friend has given me a paper that says there was a major lawsuit against this valve stem manufacture and that deaths have occurred. I do not know why my tahoe did not flip, but it jerked to one side, and was extremely hard to stop. The tire was ruined. I am thankful that i am still alive.

I have a suburban with wilderness le tires - p265 70r 16. Had a "flat tire" while driving. When i stopped to put air into the tire, it was totally mishaped with numerous bubbles in the rubber. Could find no apparent reason for the flat, and could still hear air escaping through the tire. My vehicle was assembled in mexico at the plant that is involved in the recalls. The recall covers tires from cars assembled in that plant in april and may of 2000. My car was assembled there in august of 2000. I believe that the recall should possibly be extended to a larger time frame. I am going to have all of my tires inspected.

Five radial rips had also occurred in the sidewall leading from about the middle of the sidewall to the separated tread/sidewall seam. With less than 24,000 miles on 2002 chevrolet suburban, there is extremely abnormal wear on treads of front tires in particular. Large, deep and uneven indentations on the tread, especially front inside of tires.

The tread on the left rear tire separated without warning, resulting in immediate tire failure.i was traveling at seventy miles per hour on a flat section of ih 35 south of san antonio.temperature was approximately 55 degrees f.time was approximately 9:00 pm.the tire literally came apart with flying pieces breaking out the plastic internal wheel well assembly and rear window wash hose lines.on 3/12/02 the dealer service center will check for any additional damage.the vehicle remained relatively stable but did cross over the adjacent lane and on to the road shoulder.i have taken photographs of ( and will retain) the tire.when trouble with firestone wilderness tires was intially made public i contacted the chevrolet dealer and was assured that the problem tires were a different type.when i reported the subject incident to the dealer he suggested that i contact the area gmc service center (1 800 222 1020).after reviewing the problem with the gmc representive iwas informedthat "to her personal knowledge" i was the first to have this problem.i then asked if someone calls in at some future time and asks if there has been any trouble with this tire would they be told that at least one person has had trouble.i was told that gmc's information system that she uses did not have the capabillity to distribute this information in a comprehensive manner.she did assure me that the design engineers would be made aware.i was also told that i probably would not hear from gmc again about this matter.i informed the representive that i wanted some assurance that the information about this potentially dangerous problem with this tire be, at the least, made available to the next person that inquires about this model of firestone tire.she suggested that i call firestone (1 800 356 4644).this rep., in turn, assured me that "to her knowledge" there have been no problems with this model tire, etc, etc. (dot number: mexicotiresize: p265/70r16)

Electrical- power windows inoperable for the first 8 months that we owned this vehicle, involved 5 trips to the service department before problem was fixed.body design?problem - tires did not clear vehicle body without rubbing, causing irreversible damage to the tires. To the extent that the dealer keeps recommending us to buy 4 new tires when ever they service our vehicle.brakes -possible that there is a kink in the brake booster vacuum supply hose. I need to suggest to dealer that they consider this for a problem that were having with a noise and vibration coming from the front end when you press and release the brake pedal.dealer recommends that we buy 4 new tires, the problem with that diagnoses is that we also hear the noise when the car is not moving! i wonder if they read their tsb's (tiresize: p265/70r16)( dot number:tire size: p265/70r16 )
