The outside right rear tire on a double rear axle failed while transporting a patient.the tread completely separated from both the inside and outside sidewall..(dot number: w10ptiresize: no space!)

Firestone tire 265/75 16, tread peeled off the tire. Caused severe damage to front driver side of truck.broke wires loose including antilock brake wire.swerved dangerously to the left across 3 lanes, luckily was able to get the truck back under control.the tire and the 4 others came with the vehicle, 2001 f250sd crew cab, 56,000 miles. Last week our other truck, 1998 f150 with wilderness ht tires had a tread separate and 3weeks prior to that the steel belts were broke in another tire.this truck has 28,000 miles.i think something needs to be done with firestone tires, maybe they need to shut down or quit making tires for suv's and trucks.

This is the letter i e-mailed to firestone_consumers_affairs, friday, september 22, 2000.i have had three of my six firestone tires fail with tread separation. These tires are not listed on the recall list. I drive a 1996 27' gulfstream conquest 102 motor home. I am a bachelor: consequently, i travel alone and carry a relatively small load. All three failures have occurred while driving 55 mph on asphalt roads. The temperature was about 92 to 95 degrees and the roads were smooth, without potholes. My instructions on the doorframe indicate my rear duals should be inflated to 80 psi, the front to 60 psi. I put 80 psi in the front also.the first firestone lt225/r75-16 m&s steeltex radial r4s separated in movile, alabama with about 8,000 miles on the motor home. These are all original equipment tires. I can't find my receipt for this one and the only indication is that i now have a hercules tire where i did have a firestone. The second firestone lt225/r75-16 m&s steeltex radial r4s separated its tread near fermie, british columbia, canada. This was the left inside dual with about 27,000 miles on 08/04/2000. The tread separated and i was able to drive about 4 miles on the outside dual and reach larry's radiator, mechanical and auto body, 6678 hwy #3 east, fermie, b.c., vob 1mo, phone (250) 423-4111 or (800) 866-8766. The third firestone lt225/r75-16 m&s steeltex radial r4s separated its tread aboujt 3 miles south of thompson falls, montana on 08/14/2000 with about 27,000 miles on the original tires. This was the right inside dual. The tread separated and i was able to drive about 3 miles to reach ron's service, p.o. Box 88 - 606 main st., thompson falls, mt59873 phone (408) 827-4653.my cost: tire #1 - $126.47, tire #2 - $144.61 american dollars, tire #3 - $116.95, total $388.03 (dot number: vnilixa066tiresize: 225/75r-16)

This is the fourth tire failure of original equipment tires since nov 2000. (dot number: vnop 65ctiresize: lt215/85)

The tire size is lt245/75r16.there wasn't enough room to fit it all in the space provided.after changing the tire, i found that a lug in the tread was torn from the tire with a one inch tear.it was not a straight line, and it followed the contour of the side of the lug.this told me that nothing punctured the tire.i haven't contacted firestone yet.i have the tire and don't want to give it up.i have been displeased with having these tires on my truck, but the dealer wouldn't replace them.now i've had a failure and i know you have been investigating these tires, and i want to add my name to the list of people with problems, with the hope that i can get all five of my tires replaced. I also am hoping that something can be done that will keep people from getting hurt by these tires.thank you for your time.david c. Bray.(dot number: vn11bad160tiresize: lt24575r16)

We were traveling in our 2000 winnebago minnie 31c [class c] motorhome.we left the campground which is located about 25 miles ne of richmond, va at about 1130 am.the outside temperature was between 78-80 degrees.we were traveling south on i-295 and had been on the road about 15 minutes when we heard a load banging sounds and felt our rv shaking.looking in the rear view mirror we saw what appeared to be chunks of tire flying away from our rv.we immediately pulled over to the highway shoulder to check to see what happened.upon inspection, we found that the passenger side rear inside dual tire had failed.the failed tire tore a [1] foot by about [1.5] foot hole in the floor above the tire.we happened to have pulled off the highway right at exit 41b, so we were able to slowly drive the vehicle to an exxon gas station at that exit.our auto club service dispatched a tire repair service truck to change the tire.upon removing the tire we saw that the tire tread had come nearly completely off the tire.the closer inspection revealed that about [3] three feet of the top tread was completely gone and the rest of the remaining tread had completely separated from the rest of the tire.the only thing holding the remaining tread to the tire was about a [6] inch section that was still attached.the repair service installed the spare and we were able to drive the remaining 110 miles home.

Front driver's side tire was out of round/ rearoutside passenger side tire had thread separation/insiderear tire had holes, and outsiderear driver'sside tire went flat and blewup.had all tires replaced. Size lt225/75r16, dot8x1l1x11902, not original tires.

The oct. 5th. Incident happened while my camper was on the truck. Tread was thrown and then the tire exploded.it tore the fender, body panel and running board.the tire was destroyed this tire had been a spare and had only about 14000 miles on it.i sent the tire to firestone and they said it wasn't their fault.the first incident occurred on aug. 30 when there was nothing in the truck bed and caused about $1,700.00 damage.firestone compensated me for this incident.i am sure both tires were faulty and plan to go to small claimes court for damages. Last incident was on highway blowout on right rear tire . We had checked air pressure on tires prior to trip and were good. Firestone dealer here in mcpherson where they were purchased would not warrenty the tire but would give a small discount. We elected to keep the tire and not take the discount. It's available for inspection. We have other tires of same kind and type in which the steel cords are showing ready to blow so we removed them also, they were on another truck of ours. We also have another two tires still at the dealer with similiar problems , the dealer has sent in a claim to firestone on them from in dec. 2000. Lucky for us we are doing very little highway high speed driving.the last blowout would probably resulted in a accident if we had been in traffic. (dot number: vn11818087tiresize: lt245/75r1)

The first failure occurred on the freeway.the tread came off and the tire was completely destroyed.i took it to firestone to replace the tire--there was no recall at the time.the second time, 2 weeks ago, the tire tread whipped around inside the wheel well and wrecked my fender and running board.i almost got run off the road and came close to a major accident.i then purchased 4 new michelin tires for safety sake.i called firestone and their "customer service " said they wouldn't do anything about this as these tires aren't under recall!!please do something about these tires---people will get hurt and/or killed with them!!!!!thank you. The front tires on my vehicle have indentions in the tread.i took the truck to a firestone dealer to inquire what the problem was and if these tires were being recalled or not.the service man said it appeared as if the belts had broken loose in the tire.the manager came out and said that it was not a tire defect, my front end was out of line.(even though my vehicle does not pull to either side)these decisions were reached just by looking at the tires in the parking lot.are there any known problems with this type of tire?what should i do now? I have a 2000 chateau motor home built on a ford e450 chasiswhich came with oem tires - firestone steeltex 256/75 r16 tires. As of the date of this complaint, the vehicle and ties have approximately 5,500 miles on them. In approximately 2004, i took the vehicle to the firestone complete auto care store located at 655 courthouse road, gulfport, ms 39507 (228.897.1423) to get the state safety inspection and to look at unusually cracking in the side walls of the equipment tires. I was given the state safety inspection and told that the cracking in the side walls was normal and there was nothing to worry about.after not driving the vehicle much as we lived in it immediately after hurricane katrina for over a year while we awaited our house to be repaired, i departed in it for an approximately 200 mile trip in response to evacuation for hurricane gustav. Upon the return from our evacuation on sept 2nd, 2008, after driving approximately 150 miles at highway speeds, the outer rear passenger side dully experienced a tread separation where the tread outer tread simply separated from the tire. As i was traveling at a very low speed, the tread did not come completely off the tire but just rather separated from the tire and thus caused it to go flat. This did however cause additional damage to the tire hub-cap.i email firestone/bridgestone the next day via their on line contact form and was contacted the next day. I was asked to take the tire to the local firestone complete auto care (referenced above) to have it inspected.i took the tire their the next day and the store manager stated that he had never seen anything like the failure of this tire at it looked as itwas a re-tread. I reminded him that all tires were experiencing similar cracking on the side walls where the tread attaches to the tire. The store manager then said he would replace all 7 tires but after taking the vehicle back to his shop, he has now declined to do so based on advice from firestone.

I had one blow out 5/27/01 at 50 miles an hour coming off the highway. I then took the tire to ted wiens firestone in las vegas on 6/2/01; they refused to exchange the tire or give credit. I then went to discount tire and replaced the back two tires with goodyears on 6/2/01. I did not replace the front two! the last blow out on 7/01/01 caused the truck to veer off the road, causing a major crash. The crash totaled the truck , trailer and horses. All of the occupants of the truck suffered life threatening injuries. (dot number: vdwd1xm359tiresize: lt265/75r1)

I spoke to ford & firestone about the voluntary safety campaign. When i spoke to ford on the first occassion, i was told that the original tire size on my excursion was lt265/75r16. I was also told that the replacement affected the "d" load range tires. I spoke with firestone and they instructed me to contact one of the firestone corporate stores and visit the store to get the tires replaced. I proceed to the store, firestone employee orders the tires. The tires come in for installation. I visit the store to have the tires installed, and they tell me that this exact tire is not part of the safety program. Ford explained to me that an "e" load range tire is what is being replaced in the safety program. An "e" load range tire is a 10 ply tire. A "d" load range tire is an 8 ply tire. If firestone is replacing the other steeltex radial "d" load range tires with an "e" load range, how is it possibly safe for me to have a "d" load range tire on a heavier truck that has a diesel motor? my exact tire is a steeltex radial r4s lt265/75r16 and it has a "d" load range. If the other "d" load range tires are unsafe because they are the wrong load range, why are my exact tires not beingreplaced? i do not want to have a crash, fire, fatality, or tire failure because the incorrect tire is on my truck. I want to know what capacities a "d" load range tire covers with the truck's gross vehicle weight and the truck's gross vehicle weight when towing the maximum capacity. I do tow a heavy boat and i want to be assured that i have the right tires on the truck. If ford or firestone put incorrect tires on the truck that are a safety hazard, i want the proper tires replaced by ford or firestone and installed on my truck. Will you provide answers to the above questions and concerns via e-mail or in writing to the address or e-mail address included? thank you for your help in investigating this matter.monte brackett.

While driving on the freeway at 75miles per hour the left rear tire had a blowout, the tire completely peeled apart. It took my husband about 1mile to come to a stop, during which time the tire caused damage to the paint , wheel well, tore off a mud flap, and bent the steel rim. The vehicle is a work truck so my husband purchased 4 new tires immediatelythe truck was vibrating because of the bent rim so he also purchased new rims. Firestone, steel tex radial tire, p245/75r16, dot unknown, replacement equipment with 20000 miles on a 1995, chevrolet 2500. Front driver's side tire had a blowout at 70 mph.passenger side front tire had a large bulge.

I purchased new, a 2002 chevrolet 2500 hd crew cab 4x4 from ed morse sawgrass chevrolet.in 2004, after noticing signs of cracking on the sidewalls and area where the sidewall meets the treads on all four tires, i brought the truck to maroone chevrolet service center for inspection.i explained that i was concerned that the tires, having approximately 24,000 miles on them, should not be cracking that it might be dangerous.the supervisor inspected them and told me that it was normal and i had nothing to worry about.i asked for something in writing and he refused to give me anything.as a result, in december 2005, while returning from vacation with my family, without warning there was a sudden loud noise followed by a severe vibration and difficulty in handling.i immediately pulled off the road.upon inspection i found that the entire tread was missing from the right rear tire (firestone steeltex a/t).luckily at that time the tire still held pressure.had i not immediately pulled over, the tire could have blown out and the results could have been devastating.upon further inspection when i arrived home, when the tread separated from the tire it damaged the support bars in the wheel well and folded up the fender behind the tire. As the other three tires look the same, i am concerned for my family's safety and am not driving the vehicle until i have replaced all tires.i have written to the dealership and consumer affairs and have not gotten a response from either.

4/4/04 i rec'd a flat ti,e told it was irreparable since air was seeping out of the sidewall. 4/5/04, i receive letter from firestone/ford reagrding tire recall on my 2002 ford excursion.. 4/6/04 i phone 3 ford dealerships and 5 firestone stores trying to locate replaceable tires. Told they had no idea when tires would be avail. I called ford corp., they blame firestone, call firestone hotline, they blame ford. Ford corp- keisha, cust. Service told me to - drive as little as possible, wear my seat belt, ck air in tires and drive under the speed limit. 4/6/04 i ordered 5 new recommended b.f. Goodrich tires fromjim babbitt ford, flagstaff, az. I ck each wk on order.still have no idea when tires will be in. Called ford corp., cust service -charmaine today & was told "it is not ford problem", even though the replacement tires were advised & ordered thru ford. Ford certainly does not take this tire replacmeent seriously nor cares !! meanwhile i am driving with no spare due to a faulty tire already !

While driving west on i-80 in california, my front driver side tire had separated from the wall. This condition sent me into the shoulder of the freeway; i was able to keep my vehicle from going off the highway down the cliff.

2003 chevrolet k2500 suburban with firestone steeltex lt245/75r16 tires. On friday june 10, 2005 the right front tire suddendly lost pressure while traveling on i95 at 65 mph, at ambient temperature of 94 degrees: however, i noticed the loss of pressure before the tire went completely flat and was able to safely pull to the shoulder. Upon inspection i found no punctures. The inside side wall had a 1-1/2" crack where the tire began to separate. The tire had 68781 miles of tread wear with approximately another 10000 miles of tread life left. The tires have been rotated and tire pressure checked on a regular basis that is evidenced by the long life of the tire. The tire is still in my possession.

Traveling west on i-40 in oklahoma going 75 mph when right rear tire blew out. Pulling to right side of road safely and quickly as i could. After existing the vehicle and discovering that the sidewall separated from the tire completly. I am taking tire to firestone on 23 apr 2001 to see what they are going to do. I did not hit or run over anything when this blowouthappened. I wanted you to be beware of this situation since it is another firestone tire side wall seperation. I could not find any recalls on this tires even though ford insure me these tires were not part of the last recall. If you can shed any light on this tire or what other precautions i should take would be appreciated. Right now i will not travel anymore long distances until i have firestone replace all my tires. I have had blow outs before but not one when the whole sidewall comes off. There are no punctures on the tread side or sidewall.(dot number: db647p 604tiresize: lt26575r16)

A ridge has appeared half-way down on all four tires sidewalls and 1/8" deep diagonal ripping of the rubber is appearing all around these ridges. I contacted the dealer and t hey told me to take the vehicle to a firestone dealer. The firestone dealer(frank s. Galli)located inwappingersfalls, n.yinspected the tires and agreed that they should be replaced as soon as possible. He checked the vehicles mileage and told me that since the truck has 23,300 miles on the odometer and falls within the bumper-to-bumper dealer warranty , i should take the truck back to the dealer for replacement tires. I called the dealer and informed him what the firestone dealer told me. In the last 4 months i had 2 tire treads separate causing thousands in damage. In both cases 100% of the tread came off. Repairs include new left quarter panel, new1/3 of the truck bed, new left front fender, new front bumper, repair of braking system and numerous other parts. The tires were original equipment on my 2001 ford f-350. The tires were firestone steeltex radial a/t, lt265/75 r16, load range e, dot vnw8 1xl1701. The middle 3" of the second tire that separated appeared that it was never bonded to the casing. I'm sure many people would have over reacted and had much more serious results. The body shop manager at gentry ford (ontario, oregon) said his father had exactly the same tires on his vehicle and two of the four tires also separated.

At approximately 27,000 miles, my wife and i decided to go on vacation.we loaded the truck with our camper (about 1800 pounds), some luggage and supplies (about 250 pounds), and a small trailer for hauling wood (loaded about 3500 pounds).before we left, i inflated the tires to the sidewall rating maximum of 80 psi.about 300 miles into our trip we had a blowout on the left rear tire.upon investigation, i found that the tires' tread had seperated from the carcass which then caused the sidewall to overheat and rupture.i have not had any other problems with the other tires to date.i e-mailed ford with this query, ford responded by suggesting that i e-mail the nhtsa with my information.i am concerned about the future use of my tires and would appreciate any information that you might have on this matter.please feel free to contact me.thank you.(tiresize: lt23585r16)( dot number: tire size: lt23585r16 )

My 2000 winnebago motorhome with firestone steeltex radial lt225/75r16 tires had a blowout, catastrophic tread separation.caused damage to tailpipe, mudflap, side panel.

I purchased a set of 4 firestone steeltex radial 245/75r 16 e-range tires for my pickup 3 or 4 years ago. The tires have approximately 20-25 thousand miles on them. In june of this year one of the tires showed the beginnings of a tread separation of about 4 inches along the tread line of the tire. Several weeks ago (sept, 07) one of the rear tires experienced a total separation of the tire tread while driving at 55 mph. The tread separation occurred at exactly the same point as the tire which failed several months earlier. All tires are maintained at the vehicle manufacturers recommended load of 50 front and 80 rear. Pressures are checked twice monthly. None of the tires have been repaired. The last tire failure which led to a violent tread separation did $2406.00 worth of damage to the rear fender of my pickup. Since two of the four tires have experienced tread separation, i no longer feel safe with the other two tires.i feel lucky that there was no personal injury...yet.

Failure of firestone steeltex 16" tire.tread separation at high speed.
