Yesterday on i4 in florida between tampa and lakefield [xxx] was critically injured when a 2000 ford f350 rolled over after a rear tire tread separation on a lt26575r16 firestone steel tex.he is not expected to survive.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving my 2001 f250 ford truck and pulling a trailer.i was traveling at a speed of 60 mph on a two- lane hwy. I had just checked all the tires for correct air pressure before leaving home since i was taking a load of pigs to market. Without warning, suddenly i was in an uncontrollable jerk left into the oncoming lane.fortunately, i was able to gain control just in time to avoid a head-on collision as my truck went into the ditch and stopped.the complete outer layer of rubber came off my left front tire and wrapped itself around the inside disc brake/axle assembly and tore off all of the brake lines from their mooring leading to the left front brake. (i only have 23,400 miles on this truck and have had no other tire incidents). I had to remove the tire which stayed inflated minus its complete outer shell in order to entangle and remove the outer shell portion of the tire from the brake/axle assembly. The main steel brake line was not broken as were other rubber lines to the brake assy.i am awaiting an evaluation from ford on the front left wheel alignment and brake assembly/lines condition. Ford had no recall on the tires and at first firestone service manager promised to replace all of my tires free of charge because there was a recall on that firestone tire.the next day, once they replaced the tires they came in and advised me that the recall did not match the serial number on my tires and told me then that i would have to pay for the replacement. To compensate me for their mistake on the recall they told me that they would not charge me for the labor portion of the replacement if i would pay for the tires. I was not about to drive on the removed tires again and was between a rock and a hard place, so i paid the bill. While cash layout is an issue here the real issue is poor tire performance that came within a heartbeat of killing me and many other innocent people.

While driving on the highway at 65mph my rear tire had the tread separate from the tire.

The contact owns a 1995 ford e350.the vehicle has firestone steeltex radial a/t tires, size lt225/75r16 (na).while driving 60 mph on the highway, the inside of the rear passenger side tire blew out.the tire was replaced.the failure mileage was 72,548. Updated 08/04/08. *ljupdated 08/06/08

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion equipped with firestone tires, tire line: steel tex radial a/t, tire size: lt 265/75r16. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph on a dirt road, the rear driver's side tire exploded. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and discovered that the tread was separated from the tire. The tire was not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000 and the tire failure mileage was 200. The dot number was vnw81xl049. Djr

Left front firestone tire blow-out-driving my 1999 ford f250 and pulling a 21 foot family runaboutstyle boatnorth of fresno on highway 41 to bass lake. As i entered the highway at fresno, i felt a slight vibration in the truck which felt like a slightly "out of balance"tire.i had not had a bounce before and thought i needed to have the tires balanced on return from bass lake. 10 miles north, the left front tire exploded / tread separation -(firestone steeltex a/t - lt 265/75r16, load range e).loss of control of truck and truck and trailer causingswerving into oncoming left lane of traffic.regained control before hitting oncoming traffic.damage to left fender, inner fender, front bumper, running board and brake hose - repair estimate $2000.7/32" tread remained- tire pressure is checked monthly and was checked again that morning just before leaving for drive to bass lake.

I had a complete tread separation at 55 mph on the right rear tire of my 2002 silverado k2500 on 8/13/2011. The tire is a firestone steeltex lt245/75r16 inflated at 70 psi with 45,000 miles on it. It failed with justa small vibration warning. The consequences could have been fatal. We recovered the tread in the ditch. It and the tire is available. I replaced all tires with goodyear. Our insurance company will pay for the bodywork damage.firestone must be held accountable for this defective, dangerous manufacturing.

While driving the vehicle i noticed a difference in the ride and handling characteristics which was not there on the previous day. It felt like an unresponsive steering and a vibration. When i arrived at my destination 50 miles from where i started and looked at all of my tires. Visually there was no apparent deformities or anything out of normal character. Later when i got in the vehicle and was driving home the same effects were present. About 10 miles later it suddenly got worse just before a bang and a sudden pull to the left as what happens when a tire blows out. I was able to control the steering enough to pull to the left side of the road and get out of the traveled portion of the highway. When i observed the driver's side front tire, it was flat and sections of the tread layer were missing as well as damage to the wheel well and vacuum hose for the 4 wheel drive control.the vacuum line was ripped from both ends of its connectors. Fortunately the brake line was still connected as it is dressed to the vacuum line. After changing the tire, i looked at it and observed the following;large sections of the tread layer missing which had previously been on the tire, steel belts damaged and broken apart and pulled away from the inner layer,2 slits going from near the bead on one side across the area where tread and belts had existed to the other bead area.the tire and rim were the removed and the spare put on to continue back home. After the spare was placed on the vehicle the problem noticed previously while driving did not exist anymore.
