Had steeltex r4s tires on my brand new excursion (i bought it with 4,752 miles on it and my tire went at 35,001 miles), rotated and my oil changed june 10, 2002. Noticed slits on the sides of these tires. Ford sent me to firestone. Guy at firestone assured me these tires were safe and i needed to be sure because i was leaving the next morning on a 1500 mile trip to california, with my 3 children. Back to ford, tech didn't trust the tire, placed it on back left of my vehicle. June 13, 02 at 35,001 miles, my tire blew. I got to the quartzite exit in arizona and all of a sudden if felt as though the entire road had changed. Tread separated and slapped the rear left quarter panel , causing damage, anddiscoloration to my running board. Hp helped me change the tire after calling ford roadside and telling me it would be 2 hours.took the tire to firestone and fritts fordin riverside, on june 14, 02 told that it definately looked like a defective tire. Went to sam's club and had it replaced with a bf goodrich. Went to kingman, az and on june 20, 02 tookvehicle to ford for estimate, per firestone hotline as to what i needed to do about the tire. On june 21, 02, i sent to firestone, documentation (letter, pictures, and estimate) of the tire blow out. In late july/to mid august 2002, a letter to me, was addressed to my parents address after telling firestone that i was on vacation, saying that their determination for my tire was that i was overloaded and underinflated???? i had 3 kids, an ice chest, a wheelchair, and two suitcases and some bedding in my truck. These tires are designed for 3500 lbs per tire..how was i overloaded and underinflated????

Problems with steering on 1995 chevrolet c3500 crew cab pickup. *mr while traveling on the highway, the steering wheel started to vibrate then moved from side to side.the consumer felt that he was going to lose control of the vehicle.as the consumer slowed to stop, it was difficult to hold the steering wheel as it rocked back and forth from side to side.the front end of the vehicle obviously swayed back and forth as well.when the consumer was able to inspect the vehicle, he found that the driver's side front tire had ballooned along with sidewall and tread damage. *sc

The consumer has had a total of four firestone steeltex radial rs4 iitire failures. The first occurrence the right outside rear tire tread separated, the second occurrence the consumer discovered the right rear inner tire was flat. The third incident some wiring and insulation had came off the tire. The last occurrence the driver side outside blew out and caused substantial damage to the motorhome.

Firestone tire failure, mechanic discovered 2 inch bubble on the side of right rear tire,29,000 miles. Mechanic removed and replaced with spare. Tire was taken to firestone where they refused to even look at it. I still have this tire.

Firestone steeltex tire failure.

Vehicle tire blow outs and tread separations.*mrwhile driving the passenger side rear tire tread separated from the tire damaging the right rear fender and mud flap.the next day the drivers side rear tire tread separated damaging the wheel well and mud flap.the consumer request reimbursement for the damage to the truck plus the difference in the remaining life of the failed tires.the manufacturer refused reimbursement stating that the tire was operated for an unknown period of time with insufficient air pressure.

While driving 50 mph, the rear right outer tire tread separated, but didn't' go flat. The consumer heard a flappingnoise from the back of the vehicle and pulled over to inspect the noise. The left rear inner tire tread separated 9 days later while driving on the highway 40 mph.these were load range e tires.both tires were replaced.the second tire caused slight damage to the wheel well and the first tire simply marred the inner wheel well.both tread separations begun on the inside of the rim which was also at the same point on the tire. *sc

(1)high vibration felt especially at slower speeds.steering pulling firmly to the right.(2)tread very bumpy aroung all four tires.thumping on tread ,causes hollow sound in various places around circumference of tires. (3) due to the history of firestone tires and reported failures of these tires, i had them replaced before catastrophic failure occurred.

Problems with steeltex radial tire equipment on 2001 silverado truck. *mr the consumer requested reimbursement.the vehicle was in motion when the vehicle started bucking and fish tailing due to tread separation.the tire did not go flat. *sc the consumer was denied reimbursement because the manufacturer stated they found evidenceof deformation and rim flange grooving, they also stated the tire had been operated foran unknown period of timewhile being in an over-deflated state.

I had a serious tire failure. The internal steel beltsseparated causing the tire to deform. Fortunately i was able to get off the highway safely without incident, although it was very scary. The tire was a firestone steeltex radial r4s ii. It was on my 2000 ford f350 truck. I only have 24,000 miles on the truck. I am now worried the other tires may have the same issue. Is there any recall on this model of tire?

While pulling my fifth wheel trailer, at 5:30 a.m., 68 degree temperature, traveling at 55 to 60 miles per hour, the right front tire tread separated from tire and bent the right front fender, broke the right running board, and damaged the bumper.the tire remained inflated.i sent the defective tire to firestone/bridgestone and they said the steeltex r4s, lt 265-75r16, had been under-inflated, causing overheating and the subsequent separation.they would not replace or repair anything in this situation.i do not agree with them in regard to the inflation pressure that they say caused the separation.i am very conscientious about maintainingtire pressure due to towing a 10,000 pound trailer.the pressures maintained were 55 psi(no trailer weight) and 75 psi(with trailer weight).this is very important and i am offended that they would claim otherwise.i replaced the defective tire and have it and the other three tires available for testing.

Tread separation at 50 mph, passenger rear outside dually. No damage to vehicle.on june 12, another tread separation at 35-40 mph, rear driver side. Large portion of tread had separated. Mileage was 3699 at second failure.

While traveling my left front firestone steeltex r4s ii lt265/75/r16 separated from the tire and then blew out, causing me to swerve left of center, luckily there was no other traffic coming.when i sent my tire to firestone they had said that it looked like separation.firestone/bridgestone stated in a letter that the tire was over loaded.the tire is oem for my 2000 ford f-250. The tires on front we replaced full cost to me with transforce.

I just had a tire blowout/tread separation on a 2001 ford e450 rv.the vehicle has 28000 miles and the treads show little wear. The tires are firestone steeltex radial r4s ii lt225/75 r 16 load range e.upon inspection of the other tires, notices cracks on the sidewalls of all the remaining tires and a bubble on the sidewall of one tire. What are my actions in regards to replacement of these tires?thanks.

Dt: while towing a fifth wheel, and after less than 10,000 miles on four of the 80 psi firestone tires all completely separated from theirtread.three of the tires stayed inflated after the separation, but the fourth blew out at the time of separation. On the first instance the dealer said the tires were defective, and advised consumerto check all the tires with that vin.tire merchant refused to give any assistance.

While driving, a loud noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. The consumer pulled over and discovered the passenger rear tire tread had separated from the vehicle.the consumer called road side assistance to change the tire. Firestone steel tex r4s2 lt 225/75r16.the consumer continued on the trip and 300 miles later heard a noise again and a second tire failed due to tread separation. *sc

*sc

Vehicle:2002 roadtrek motor home on chevrolet 3500 chassis.while driving vehicle at about 70mph, left rear tire tread separated (did not blowout!)upon stoping and inspection, approximately 12 inches of tread were bulging on inside of tread.vehicle had approximately 18,120 miles on it and is two years old.tire was changed and ultimately replaced by firestone dealer (kingsport, tn)damaged tire was left with dealer.

While driving 65 mph left front tire experienced a tread separation original equipment, tire size lt245/75r16, dot #233351ur13m053267. No damage or injuries were reported. Manufacturer was notified.

On august 15, 2003, the right rear firestone steeltex r4s tire on my 2001 chevy silverado suffered complete tread separation, commonly referred to as "capping", on the interstate.i filed a claim with gm since the truck was still under mfr warranty.gm referred me to firestone and i filed a claim with them, incident report #826379.sent the tire to firestone for evaluation per their instructions.firestone refused to honor my claim stating the tire was "underinflated for some period of time before the failure".i know this to be false because i checked the tire before leaving home on the trip and it had 80 psi (recommended pressure) and it still had 70 psi when i pulled over to check the tires after the tread separated.tire went flat only after i drove to a safe area to change it, while i was removing the spare from its carrier.i grew up on a farm and am retired military so i know how to care for a vehicle and especially tires.i have all the documentation/correspondence exchanged on the incident.if there is a lawsuit or other action against firestone i would like to know how to request inclusion in it to recover my financial loss.

While traveling about 65 mph on the highway and without warning the left rear tire tread separated from vehicle, forcing the driver to pull over to the shoulders. The tire was deflated, and the rubber came off, causing damage to the undercarriage. Firestone, 2p244575r16. The spare, which was installed on the driver's side rear, also experienced tread separation at 30134 miles.*ph *nlm

The consumer's vehicle has had two firestone steeltex radial tire failures. The first vehicle tire separation occured at 16900 miles.both failures caused the vehicle to be unstable and was difficult to maintain control.firestone replaced both tires with the same model tire.*tc

Purchased new itasca motor home july 1999 has firestone steeltex radial 225/75r16 r4sii.within first 18,000 right front tire blew off tread.firestone says it was caused by "over inflation" next at 20,000 miles right rear tire threw tread.this time the tread completly separated in such a way that air was still left in the inner tire skin.firestone blammed the failure on "shelf life of tire too old" this time we demanded new tires.firestone installed 6 new at our expense. Less than 2,800 miles, the left rear tire blew out the tread and sidewall.firestone says "it was your fault, the tire lost air and you drove on it" the last failure caused heavy propety damage.
