Tread was good and i checked pressure before each trip.we are so disappointed in this major purchase in our life and belief these tires should have been recalled.

Three weeks ago vehicle was taken to the dealer because pieces of steelwere sticking out of the rear driver's side tire.dealer said, "the tires were fine".presently, while driving at highway speedconsumer heard a loud explosion. Rear driver's side tire had separated.

Tire catastrophic failure.right rear outer dualtires were checked to have 80 psig cold 3 hours earlier.

While drivinga 2000 f-250 ford pickupright rear firestone tire blew out. We had over $3,000 damages to the box and exhaust of the pickup. We replaced tire ourselves and insurance paid for damages to pickup. We have pictures and insurance company has pictures and still have what was left of the tire that blew out. Do not have parts of pickup that were replaced.

Traveling north in light rain on ih 55 at brookhaven, ms on sunday afternoon, march 20, 2005. I experienced a sudden failure of a firestone steeltex r4s radial tire. Luckily it was on the rear of my 2000 ford excursion, and i was able to get to the shoulder quickly and safely. The tire tread had separated from the ply for about a third of the way around the tire on the inside. The tire has 34,000 miles on it.this sudden failure in a similar mode as the other firestone failures leads me to believe perhaps they should be recalled also. This tire is an original tire that was installed at the factory, and is a load range d tire. My excursion is a diesel model.

While traveling at 50 mph passenger side rear tire blew out.there was no warning.the dealer was contacted.

For the second time i had a shoulder separation, but this time trveling at 35 miles per hour in a small town, causing extensive damage to the undercarriage.the previous incident was in early march 2003, speed 60 miles per hour, when the front right tire went the same way, but with no dfamage to the vehicle. 3 other tires appear ready to seperate, according to a local tire service center.the tire size is lt 225/75r16ms. These are original tires with 10/32 nds tire tread remaining. The vehicle has approximatel 22000 miles.

Blowout of firestone steeltex 245/75r16 r4s tire on roadtrek rv followed immediately by another blowout of the replacement identical tire.two blowouts on the interstate within 30 minutes.air pressure on replacement tire was verified as 80 psi after installation and immmediately prior to blowout.

I notice cracking on side of tires where the sidewall and tread meet.had tires certified safe to operate by certified firestone dealer per firestone.at highway speed of 70 mph left front tire tread seperated without warning. I was able to control vehicle and come to complete stop without further incident.tire was replaced by firestone dealer same day, i was charged for the mounting and balancing. Estimated damage to fenderwell of vehicle to include bent metal and torn mud flap estimated damage 250.00. Firestone denied replacement of other tires.i have since replaced them with another brand. On may 7, 2005, i was driving my 2000 safari motorhome which is equipped with a 1999 ford e-450 chassis. I was on i-64 at beckley, wv and driving app. 55 miles per hour. Five of the 6 tires on this vehicle are firestone steeltex r4s brand and one of them had an apperent tread separation, and subsequent blowout. I managed to get keep the vehicle under control, mainly because it was on the back and it is a dual wheel chassis. The tires have 38,000 miles and are 6 years old, but the treasd is still good. When the tread separation occurred, it torn off my fuel filler tube which leads to the gas tank, and also 4 braces which hold the body to the frame. It also caused some damage to the body. There was no wreack, nor any injuries, but we were very lucky. Traffic was heavy. I have 4 other tires on this vehicle that are the same, and now i do not feel safe in driving it. Is there some type of recall so that i can replace these tires?

While towing rv on straight section of interstate right rear tire exploded.force pushed up rht rear 1/4 panel, tail pipe, wheel housing, canopy.vehicle did not hit any debris in road to cause tire failure. (dot number: vdor1wttiresize: lt235/85r1)

The left rear tire of my ford excursion exploded during normal highway usage.the tire was a firestone steeltex radial r4s ii, lt 265/75r16.the manufacturer claims underinflation of tire.

For the second time in just a couple of weeks ive had another one of my firestone (steeltex radials r4s) tires have a blowout and this time it included a complete tread separation.the tire location was the left rear inner tire... Temp outside was approx. 105 or greater (arizona).my highway speed was around 65mph.with less than 14000 miles on the tires, i should not be having this type of problem.interesting to find out my tires are from the decatur plant, yet firestone refuses to admit there is a defect or theyre not designed to handle the heat in this area.since this was my first trip since my last blowout, i have no confidence any of the remaining tires will last.im replacing them all.neither ford nor firestone will meet me half way on the cost. Structural failure of four of five original equipment firestone steeltex tires.we purchased a new 1999 chevrolet suburban 2500 (vin [xxx]) in 1998 equipped with steeltex r4s lt245/75r16 tires.four of five of these tires failed at a similar mileage, with about 50% of tread left.three of the tires formed bulges under the tread and were exchanged at two different firestone dealers with credit for the tread remaining.documents are available.the fourth failure occurred within only a few hundred additional tire miles later.the failure was a sudden blowout at highway speed with loss of virtually all tread and resulted in significant property damage to the vehicle.fortunately i was able to bring the suburban, with travel trailer in tow, to the shoulder of the interstate and no injury was sustained to myself and four passengers.it is absolutely unreasonable to believe that four of fiver tires will suffer structural failure at about the same mileage and with about the same amount of tread remaining, unless the tires were improperly manufactured.to date we have received no consideration from either bridgestone firestone or chevrolet relative to the property damage we incurred due to the failure of the firestone tires.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I own a ford 1999 e250 van that has been customized by the sportsmobile company into an rv. It came with four firestone steeltex radial r4slt225/75r16 m/s tires. As i was driving in the left lane of i-505s (just n of exit for allendale rd), the tread on my left rear tire separated. I was able to safely pull onto the right shoulder. I drove (at reduced speed on the damaged tire) to the midway rd rv park at the next exit. There i mounted the spare. The tires had 22k miles on them and had been maintained properly.

Tire suddenly failed loosing tred and blowing out on return trip from dallas txon inerstate i-40 in west memphis, ark the tires had less than 4500 miles on them .both ford and dealer said "not my problem"at blow outcontrol of the vehicle was very difficult and if there had been heavy traffica collision would have occured as the vehicle swerved from one lane to another while stopping it.the tire was made at the canada plant and was the standard issue 265x16r (dot number: vnw8 ixytiresize: 16)

I have a gmc sierra 1550hd truck. Purchased in 2001. It currently has 62,000 miles. It came with firestone 245x75x16 tires. Since i have had this vehicle both rear tires of the same description has had failures within months of each other. The tires developed large humps on the tread area while driving at highway speed causing the vehicle to shudder drastically and become unstable. This is of particular concern to me since in both cases i had my family with me which includes a baby and a 10 year old in the vehicle. What can be done about my complaint and is there concern for other consumers who may be riding on this particular tire as well?

On 7/11/2011 around 12:35 pm my 1999 fleetwood jamboree 29l motorhome on a ford e450 chassis was being driven on the highway from ear falls ontario canada to vermillion bay ontario canada. The motorhome was being driven at 50mph on a good road surface. Heard a loud pop like a .22 caliber pistol shot and then vibrations from the passenger rear of the motor home. Slowed down and stopped at a pulp check area within a 100yds of the explosion. Found the inner rear passenger side tire had separated tread while the rest of the tire was still intact but flat. The mileage on the motorhome is 14,000 and is otherwise in good condition. The tire was showing only minor tread wear after only 14,000 miles. Changed the spare and pumped both tires to 90psi. The spare that was put in is a firestone steeltex radial r4s lt225/75r16 load range e. Am assuming that this is the same as the one that blew up.

We were traveling on i-15 near elsinore, ca at appx. 60 mph, when we heard an unusual sound (thumping) fromrear of the motorhome (24' class c coachmen).i pulled off at a nearby exit, parked the vehicle, and checked the tires visually.it was dark and i initially did not see any damage.i checked the air pressure on the tires (80-82 psi), when my son, using a flashlight brought my attention to the inside rr tire.it appeared frayed.we replaced the tire and examined it.while there was a lot of tread left, it was apparent that the treads had separated from the inner belts.the fact that it had been supported by the other tire (dually), prevented it from disintigrating, and i was able to stop before the inner belts were affected.i tried to report this earlier, but had difficulty with the form. This vehicle was 100% dealer maintained and never ran off of paved roads. It primarily traveled from the la area or las vegas to lake tahoe. I have homes in all three areas and travel between them. During the course of these trips over the last several years, i have had three high speed blowouts and two tire tread separations. That is five for five of the tires firestone built and were delivered on my vehicle. I am in my mid 60s and have driven autos since i was 16 and have never had this type of substandard performance on any auto that i have ever owned.my major dissatisfaction and the reason for this letter is the total disregard firestone acknowledged in any of my several letters of loss claim with them. To this date, all i ever received from firestone was assurance their product was safe and that any problems that i was having was the fault of my misuse of their product. This total disregard for consumer safety and customer satisfaction needs correcting or this company should not be allowed to do business in our country.please make firestone defend their customer commitment in court.thank youjack t stone, jr.319 makin ave.palmdale, ca 93551.

The first problem that i had with theses tires was back in july of 2000.on both of the front tires the belts had brokenat that time the truck had about 12,000 miles on it.the problem was caught before any separation had happened.then on 8/17/01 i was driving on i215 and the truck pulled hard to the right and there was a loud bang.i brought the truck back under control and pulled over to the shoulder and got out.i walked around to the front right side and the tire had separated, it didn't go flat.then exactly a week later i had the left front tire blowout.this tire was in pieces.after the first separation i called firestone and was told to take it to a firestone dealer in my area to have the rest of the tires looked at.i did that i took it to ted wiens on warm springs.at that time i spoke with courtneyhe came out looked at the first tire and said since i was claiming product liability for the damage to my truck he said all he would do is replace the tire and nothing more.i asked him to please look at the others he told me there was nothing more he could do.so i left bought the tire somewhere else and had it mounted and the others checked.i was told at that time the tires seemded fine no sidwall damage and plenty of tread.then i have the 2nd seperation.i went back to ted wiens and spoke to the owner carlos.he took the truck to the back looked at the remaing 2 tires said the tread was at 10/32 no side wall damage and called firestone.firestone told him since the tires had no cracking they would do nothing.he did replace these tires for me.firestone would not.i feel let down both by firestone and chevrolet.i had no choice as to what kind of tires would be on the truck when i bought it.neither one is now to eager to help me.i have $5,000.00 in damage to a leased vehicle and no one willing to step up and help. On 2001 itasce spirit 31t motor home on a ford 450 chassis i experienced a belt/tread failure of a firestone steeltex r4s lt225/75r16 tire on the inner drivers side rear dual wheel position. There was a loud rumble which i at first thought was caused by pavement roughness. I slowed down from approx. 60 mph at which time the tread let go with a loud noise. Fortunately i was able to control the vehicle as the outer dual tire held. Upon inspection the inner half of the tread had let go, caught the 1/16" metal plate holding the mud flap which it bent up over the tires preventing secondary damage to the wheel well of my motor home. I tried contacting firestone and was sent on a wild goose chase to end up on a voice mail at the dayton engineering center. I am replacing all 7 of the tires on my motor home with non firestone tires. The risk of injury to my motor home or the possible death of my wife and i or our children and grandchildren who frequently use it far outweights the cost of new tires. Reasearching the nhtsa web site i find there have been 216 complaints prior to mine and that there are two (2) open odi's, dp04-004 and 005. I am at present contacting listoni and listoni of pasadena ca who petitioned for these actions and plan to write letters to all of the rv owners associations and publications asking them to make their members aware of the potential dangers of the steeltex r4s tires. I believe that while there have been no deaths resulting from failures of these tires they should be recalled as were the other firestone tires from the same era.

They certainly don't make it easy.(the first blowout was left with the dealer we purchased replacement tire from.

Tire pressure checked approx 800 miles prior to the blowout. The blowout occurred from within the center of the tire. The treadware was well under the manufacturers recommended replacement period. The tires are one a 2001 shasta 31 ft motor home. Each time the unit is in storage or in use at a rv location, the sidewalls are protected from sun damage. The tires are not sidewall cracked. Upon blowout, the tire shredded from the center, causing undercarriage damage to the unit. Luckily, the blowout was from the inside dual on the rear. I would hate to say what damage may have been caused if either on outer or front, as the steel belts pounded for a protrusion from the tire for about 8-12 inches extending from the center of the tire.

In june 2003, i purchased a new 2003 ford f250. It had firestone steeltex r4s lt 265/75 r16 tires on it. On march 16, 2004, the rear driver's side tire went completely flat as i was sitting at a red light. I pulled over to the side of the road and found that the tire had a rip across the side wall approximately 5 inches long. The tires (and truck) have less than 12,000 miles on them. I called ford, and they referred me to a local firestone dealer. At the firestone dealer, one of the mechanics looked at the tire and said there was no apparent reason for the tire to split, but a manager would have to look at it before it could be replaced. The manager looked at it and said i must have hit a large rock or something. I explained that i was sitting at a signal light when it happened and that the truck had never been off the pavement. He said maybe somebody came by and cut it or stuck an ice pick in it (as if i wouldn't have noticed that in my rear view mirror). Then he told me it was ford's fault because they were using the wrong kind of tire for such a big vehicle, but he would sell me a new one at a discount. The firestone website has specs for this tire, and specifically states they are for ford f250/f350. I refused his offer, and called ford again. This time they referred me to firestone customer care. I called and they told me that there was no recall on these tires, but that they would note my complaint in their system. They also told me several times to make sure i safely buckle my children when they are in the vehicle. I've found a number of similar complaints about these tires on the internet. At this point, for the safety of my family, i'm having all four tires replaced with something other than firestone/bridgestone tires. I'm keeping the tire that blew out and the receipt from the new tires to submit to firestone in the future if a recall is put in place.

My 2000 gmc yukon xl came with defective firestone steeltex r4s tires. I was driving down the road and one of the four tires blew out. Upon examination of all four tires on the car by my mechanic he found all four tires had signs of vertical separation of the sidewall and partial tread separation of the left rear tire and bizarre wear. The tire that blew out had come apart on one of these vertical separations. I replaced the tire with the spare and drove it to a firestone dealer. I was informed that there were no problems what-so-ever with these firestone tires and that the alignment of my suv was the problem. I told him he was crazy and that i would not have an alignment done and i wanted it in writing. The manager gave me it in writing, and had the tires replaced but charged me over $200 and gave me more of the same brand of tire on the vehicle.i took the vehicle to my gmc dealer and had him check to see if an alignment was needed and i was explained in writing that an alignment was not needed.

We were traveling in our 2003 28' sunseekerclass c motorhome, which has less than 3,000 miles. On our trip out a few days earlier, the valve stem fell off the passenger-side inside dual tire causing it to go flat. The tire was removed and a new valve stem put on. Five days later, on the return trip while traveling about 20 mph on i 495 in ma, the same tire had a blow out. A fist-sized hole was on the inside of the tire's sidewall. Firestone refused to replace the tire and said the warranty was voided because a non-firestone dealer had repaired the valve stem. We were told there have been no recalls on these tires and a new one could be bought for $160.

Email sent to firestone today.i was disappointed to learn that the seriously flawed sidewalls on my steeltex lt265 r75 r4s tires on my 2001 excursion would not lead to a replacement.i reported a problem on these tires to the briarwood firestone store in 2002 and again today.this is especially troubling since i was advised to replace a tire in 2002 at my cost and have had absolutely no problems with the side walls of the replacement even though i continued to use the same car wash i have used since purchasing the car new in august 2001.also, i ran firestone firehawk 31-10.5-15 atxs on my sema show jeep in 1995 and 1996 only to be forced to request replacements from nashville after serious sidewall damage in completing the rubicon.the damage was due to major sidewall weakness leading to large areas of the sidewall pealing away to reveal the white sub layer.john taylor of firestone graciously replaced the atxs with bridgestone mts that performed flawlessly in all trail tests (including a run through the rubicon in 1997) and never experienced the type of sidewall destruction seen on the atxs.the type of damage to the sidewalls on my excursion is similar to that of the atx's, but much deeper and more pronounced.it could not have been caused by the car wash as the splits run both directions (forward and back).also, i take my other vehicle through the same car wash and have not experienced any damage on michelin or b. F. Goodrich tires on that vehicle. The fact that i have experience with trail testing firestone tires, that i am an engineer, and that i reported problems with the atx's in 1996 should show a level of knowledge not characteristic of the normal user.this did not matter to the store manager.furthermore, one of the store personnel made a silly remark that the damage was ford's fault because they advised users to run the tire pressure too low.

Noticed split in sidewalls on all 4 tires at approx. 21300, we changed the worst out to the spare. Went to a firestone dealer, who did a courtesy check and told us all 4 tires were bad this included the spare that had less than 300 miles on it.he said it was "road hazard"not a factory defect and that we needed to purchase new tires. When i said i was going to pusue this farther he told us we may not make it home on the back tire (43 miles) and that we needed to change it i ask to what we had already taken the worst one off the truck. I then called the dealership i purchased the truck from and they understood but said they could do nothing and recommended i call ford to open a folder, i called ford they recorded the complaint and said they could do nothing. Theygave me the firestone #i then called firestone they had me go get two opinions from non-firestone dealers both said tire failure, and were to contact the firestone dealer. We have not heard back from firestone. (tiresize: 265 75 r16)

Firestone, steeltex radial r4s blew out and lost complete tread on hwy.tire mounted on rv trailer (5th wheel) and was 1 of 4 that came with the trailer.pressure was checkin in the morning prior to travel and was at 80psi.the failure occured at a speed of 65 mph with the teperature outside approximately 70deg f.the failure caused minor body damage to the side of the wheel well and rv where they join.cost of repair has not yet been determined.i still have the defective tire carcass but not the tread as it has been lost on the highway and not recoverable.

Before i had a chance to pull over, my front left tire blew. I swerved into the south bound lane and luckily no oncoming traffic was coming and i was able to slow down and stop on the north bound shoulder. The tread had separated from my tire causing a blow out. My mirror broke and also my fender guard got partially torn off and the truck has damage from the tire thread hitting the side of the truck. I found pieces of shattered mirror inside my truck from when the treads hit my mirror. I had my window open and am fortunate that none of that mirror went into my eyes.

Firestone tires lt245/75-r16-load range e------- tread separation occurred at approx. 50 miles per hour on a flyover from one freeway to another. The incident occured on a sunday and the next day we went to a firestone factory store to have them check the tire and what if any remendy we could work out. The store manager said there was nothing they could do for us, but if we wanted to submit a claim for the damages to our vehicle that he would call and have me talk to there people. The result of the conversation was that they would send us so forms to fill out and return with the tire to tennessee at our expense. Also, during this time the manager was on the phone and also waiting for a phone call. Also, during this time he checked the air pressure on the other three tires three times and also rubbed his hand over the tread part of the tires. He finally said that the right front tire was failing and that we would not make it home on the tire and did not want us to leave without changing the right front tire in addition to replacing the right rear tire. We had them replace all four tires with michelin tires. Didn't mention it earlier ,but i did feel a vibration prior to thread separation. I am a consumer with some serious problems with firestone tires!i am the owner of a 27 foot gulfstream rv.it being brand new, my first problems were with only ~ 6k000 miles on it--1/2 way across the us. The first tire tread separated--with the tire still full of air. Then the treads wore out on he front at ~ 7000 miles. Caused problems and big $$ to fix the front end...and 2 more new tires --not firestones.nother tire suddenly developed a huge "bubble" in the sidewall--had to replace out of my pocket-again!:-(last straw...may 26....taking my daughter (5 yrs old) with 5 of her friends on her birthday outing. Another tire tread came off--again, with the tire still full of air. Again, major damage to the rv, and ruined the day...4 hours later we were home...no party....sirs, i cannot tell you how worried i am about a company who, just today, told the local tire dealer (about my situation) and i quote: "we just have to wait for the rest of them to blow".............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the......?!???????i want to be reimbursed for damages and repairs, as well as replacements!i am having them all replaced and never with firestones again.so, how can you assist.

I own a 2000 ford excursion. Original tires were firestone steeltex radial at lt 265/75r 16d. On 6/1/02 my family and i were on i-70 in illinois. We had a blowout of the right rear tire. The tire completely shredded. Steering immediately became difficult. I swerved into the median of i-70 and slowed to a stop. I got out and observed the damage. I located an area dealer who had replacement tires. I did not want to further endanger my family.i had the tires replaced.i took photos of the tires. When we returned home, i contacted ford and firestone about these tires and inquired if they were part of the 2002 tire recall at firestone. I was informed that these tires were not part of the recall and that they were "perfectly safe" to operate on my vehicle. I informed them that they should investigate these tires too because of my recent accident. They offered to sell me new firestone tires which i declined. Now, it is apparent that these tires were also defective and firestone has begun another recall of these tires. I then contacted firestone. I related the account of the incident and gave them the data on my tires. They stated that these tires were part of the recall and they started to give me information on how to have the tires replaced and to be reimbursed. When i told them that i obviously had to replace the tires back in june of 2002, they informed me that their recall and reimbursement plan only covered tires that were replaced after march of 2003. I replaced my tires too "early" to be involved in this recall! given no other recourse, i am now filing this complaint. How can firestone not reimburse me for tires that were obviously defective? they endangered the safety of my family and caused me to replace the tires long before their service life. Now they tell me that i replaced them too early?please let me know what other avenues might be available to get firestone to take responsibility for their defective tires and reimburse me for the cost of new tires.

My wife and i own a 2000 minnie winnie motor home which has 21,000 miles on it and left for our sons hockey tournament in virginia beach.we left at approximately 11:00am aug 1, 2007 and experienced a blowout with the passenger side rear outer tire. When they pulled the tire off, they noticed that the tread was separated where the blowout was.the inner tire tread appeared as thought the tread was beginning to separate so they replaced it also and inspected the remaining four with no problems. On august 5, 2007 we were returning home when i felt a severe vibration in the entire motorhome.the two front tires as well as the two drivers side rear appeared as though the tread was lifting. I called just about every place in the phone book to find that no one could help us with the size and quanity needed.the vibration was so bad i had a sevice tech put the spare tire on the front right which was the worse of the 4.the tech advised me that the next service station should have the tires needed. They replaced three tires which also all showed signs of the tread separating.we contacted our firestone rep as we were told by firestone and they stated that the e rated tires are not on the recall list.we experienced 6 tires fail in the same manner within a 6 day period with no adverse road conditions at all. I experienced tire problems.while driving along around 62 miles per hour i experienced a severe bumping which felt like a tire problem and after pulling over and inspecting the tires discovered that the right rear outside tire was the problem.after calling good sams road service and getting the tire changed the tire looked as if the tread had separated from the rest of the tire and was coming apart.these tires only had roughly 16,800 miles on them at the time.the spare had never been used and still had the sticker on it so i was able to continue on my trip.i sent an email to firestones web site and to this day haven't heard a word about the tires.these tires are load range 'e' tires and had 80 lbs. Of air in each because i check them before taking any trips.i've got another tire on the front of my rv that is wearing odd also.normally when a tire is under inflated it wears the outside treads down and if over inflated it wears the center tread or treads down.this tire is wearing down on the second and fourth tread.isn't this odd?the first, third and fifth tread look okay.i'd hate to think more of these tires doing the same thing and possibly causing injury or damming the next time.we were fortunate this time. I was on my way to san diego, ca from tucson, az, when my left front tire completely came apart and depressurized instantly.i was in a 30' rv towing a car and traveling 65 mph. The weather was clear and the temperature was approximately 75 degrees.i had just checked all the tire pressures the day before and set the front ones to 70 psi.the tires were about two years old and had about 4000 miles on them.they were always kept to the proper inflation and covered for protection.i had about 3 seconds of warning before the failure.the fenderwell was damaged and i was 50 miles from the nearest town.i managed to change the tire and slowly continued to yuma where i managed to get another spare from walmart at 4:00 p.m. On easter sunday.the tire was a firestone steeltex r4s 225/75/16.the dealer where i bought the tire said i had to return the tire for compensation.i wasn't about to haul a shredded tire in my motorhome for two weeks, so i received nothing.i immediately went and bought $1000.00 worth of michelins somewhere else.

Driving on flat, dry, interstate 70mph, approx. 60degrees, drivers side inside dually tire tread peeled off. Tread separated from tire and flapped against underside of rv. According to truck svc station, looked just like wilderness at issue. Damaged underside of rv denting fuel line, breaking off fuel cap, cracking fule cap assembly, the mud flap and welded support metal broken off. Flapping noise at 70mph of tread against wheel wells sounded like the rv was dragging sideways down the highway. Nothing on roadway, no impact. I looked all over highway for stones, wood or any cause. Nothing found. Thank god it wasn't a front tire yet. With spare, got rv home (approx 150mi) and parked for season for spring repair and tire replacement. Replacing all firestones with michelin in spring. Spare has full tread vs other on that side of axle. My wife and i were traveling in our 2003 ford f-250 super duty long-bed pickup with 4 firestone steeltex r4s tires filled to about 70psi (cold).the truck was carrying a light 8.5' pop-up truck-camper (2500lbs) and pulling a small 18' open-bow ski boat (2300lbs) on a single-axle trailer (850lbs - measured tongue weight of boat & trailer = 260 lbs.we began from an rv park in red bluff, california, at approximately 10:30 am, northbound on interstate 5.traffic moderate and weather was clear, dry approximately 95 deg f. Thirty minutes later, we were about 1 mile south of redding, california, driving approximately 58 mph in the right lane, when the truck suddenly began to shudder.seconds later there was a loud thud, and all indications of a right rear blowout.i was able to safely pull onto the shoulder and stop. Investigation revealed a right rear tire failure.the tread was separated from the sidewall and all but wrapped around the axle.the mud flap and well lining was gone.the chrome wheel-well trim was mangled, the bed side-panel support arm was ripped away from the bed body, and the outside wall of the truck bed was folded under and bent around the exhaust pipe.there were numerous scratches and black marks all over the outside bed body and bumper.later inspection revealed that the right rear shock mount was out of alignment and the shock jammed closed. After removing the ripped tread, blown tire and other broken pieces, i installed the spare.we were able to safely proceed to a nearby les schwab tire store a few miles away.i decided that i could not trust the remaining tires, so i purchased four new tires, new rear shocks and had the shock mount repaired at a total cost of $1000.i asked several technicians as well as the tire store manager to inspect the failed tire.they all agreed that the blown tire appeared to fail as a result of tread separation, rather than a puncture or sidewall failure.

During a july trip from glendale ,ca to the eastern sierras at 4hrs into the trip the left rear tire delaminated on my chevrolet 1500hd. I was carrying a lance light camper on the truck. The weight was within limits of both tire and truck. The tires were inflated to 80 cold psi prior on the day of the trip. The temprature was 108 deg f. My speed at the time was 67 mph. In august, on another trip to the eastern sierras, the right front tire delaminated at approximately the same location under the same conditions.lucky for me there were no injuries or damage to the vehicle.the tires are original equipment firestone steeltex r4s lt245/75r16 rated e weight. The tires had 17,700 mile at the time of seperation. The bishop firestone store replaced the first tire under the limited warranty, my cost $69.00 for tread wear. I'm currently trying to get the dealer to replace the tires with another brand. So far they said they would replace the one tire i brought to them and refund my $ 69.00 fee from firestone.please advise me on the status of these tires and what recourse of action i have before a tragety occurs.

While driving at 60 mph, the tread separated from the lf tire. Vehicle sustained damage to wheel well, rocker panel, front fender and side view mirror.

The tires were purchased new.they have 30,000 miles on them.in the recent months one of the them has developed a bulge in the tread.another is out of round and there is an awful bounce at 45 mph.there is left a lot of tread and shows no real signs of wear.i am worried about tread seperation. I also refuse to jeaprodize my family on firestone tires.i will also look to my rv insurance, firestone, and dealer for help to recover cost of new tires and repairs to the underside of rv needed.
