I had two of these tires blew out within 400 miles of each other. If ypu put the tires side by side the damage to tires look almostexactley the same. Ther is 10,000 miles on these tires. The sidewall on both tires seperate from thread.

This is our second tire blowout and third tire problem with these firestone steeltex a/t tires. The 1st blow out i contacted firestone and even sent them what was left of the tire and all i received back was a form letter stating that the tire was driven on while under inflated. Which i know is not true because i check the tires before going on any road trip and inflate to the recommended pressure. The first blow out was november 1, 2001 while my wife was driving the excursion and this time i was driving it going around 75 mph. Both times, the tire has caused damage to the vehicle. My wife and i feel lucky that both times we were able to control the vehicle and bring it to a stop safely. But i can easily see how someone could loose control under this situation. You need to get all of these tires off the road immediatly. I believe these tires are dangerous not just to the drivers of the vehicles, but also to anyone else on the road with them. Please contact me if you have any further questions.sincerely:[xxx].parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While travelling on the interstate at approximately 75 mph, we experienced a blowout on the right rear of the vehicle. Upon completing our trip home, i made numerous phone calls regarding the tires and eventually was referred to a local firestone tire dealer. After visiting the dealer and having my tire inspected, firestone claims i had valve stem failure. (tiresize: lt26575r16)

At 62 mph, my left rear tire developed a large bulge (approximately 12" in diameter) on the tread area which extended into the sidewall approximately 4".the truck shook violently and i pulled off the road.the tread never separated from the tire carcass.i believe it would have separated if i had not stopped immediately.my vehicle is a 2001 ford excursion with a diesel engine.the tires- firestone steeltex lt265/75r16- are original with 35,850 miles on them.i check tire pressure weekly and keep it at 60psi for these tires.they have never lost air in the 12 months i have owned the vehicle.

Pickup has been to dealer 4 times since purchased new 7/28/01 for vibration which appears to be out of balanced tires.tires found out of balance by dealer, but problem is not corrected. Vibration occurrs between 60mph to 77mph. (dot number: 24575r16tiresize: lt245/75r/)

September 18, at approximately 4:30 pm my wife experienced a bona-fide blow-out of the left rear firestone steeltex on our 2000 excursion.i had checked air pressure sunday afternoon at 55 psi in each tire.lisa was proceeding east bound on the sam houston parkway on clear roads, in the middle lane, at 65 to 70 mph, when this catastrophic failure occurred.their were no road hazards noted, and no tread damage other than a complete tread separationthis morning i replaced all of the firestones with michelins for $884.65 at discount tire company on fm 1960.i do not want to further endanger my family with these tires. On sunday, june 1st, while returning from a fishing trip and towing a boat, the right rear tire on my ford excursion exploded on i-285 north of atlanta ga. I was in the lane inside the fast lane, but moving at the same speed as traffic. I was able to navigate to the shoulder and change the tire. However, because the tire exploded and wrapped itself around the axle, the rim was destroyed. I have ordered another rim from a re-manufacturer.i've e-mailed firestone with the incident information, but have received no response. *nlm

1/2 in from the rim the tire looks like sun rot as well as all the way around the sidewall, it is cracked and splitting aon the front and back tire, my mechanic said that this is very unsafe and if the tire gets hot the front and back will blow out, these tires only have 26000 miles on them, i haul a horse trail and a camper and am very concered about a blow out , while hauling a load. Both techs that looked at these tires said that the cracking and splitting is not right?can you give me advice to help ??

The sidewall/tread of one of my front tires looked as if it were in the early stages of tread separation as indicated by a crack or linear indication that extended almost 75% around the perimeter where the sidewall met the tread area. There were also numerous other areas of notable separation that appeared to be a result of the rubber material being too dry perhaps. I called ford and they said there was nothing they could do about it and referred me to this site.before failure occurred with my family in the vehicle, i installed all four new tires, model michelin ltx m/s that i purchased from cosco. This is a 2001 ford excursion with approx 30,000 miles on it at the time. Unfortunates, i wasn't really thinking at the time and did not have the technicians at cosco save the old tires for me.*nlm

Driving down a two lane highway, when we felt a bad vibration in the truck, was slowing down when the truck made a loud noise and veered sharply to the oncoming traffics lane. We got the truck under control and pulled off at the first available place.the tire did not lose any air but it did lose all of its rubber like it was a retread tire.we were very lucky that we were not towing horses at the time and that there was no oncoming traffic right at that moment.

While driving on i-35 south of ft worth, the left rear tire of my ford f-250 blew without warning, disintegrating and causing major damage to the lr fender and fender liner. Tires were firestone steeltex ats with approximately 55,000 miles.i have friend who had a similar event with his ford expedition.these are not good tires!*la

While driving 20 mphfront passenger's side tire blew out.as a result, the particles from the tire cracked the windshield and damaged the vehicle's frame.

I had just checked the tire pressures (70psi) prior to leaving home. 45 minutes into the trip, i felt 2 or 3 seconds of rough shaking of the steering wheel and then a loud noise accompanied by a "drop" of the left rear of the vehicle. I had taken my foot off of the acelorator at the shaking and maintained control while gently braking and when slowed enough, pulled off of the highway. I was towing a gooseneck trailor and all whights were within load capacity of the f350. The sepeaated tire tread completely tore up the rear panel of the truck, two estimated within $50 of each other; lowest was $2654. I filed a claim with firestone to pay or the repair and was required to send them the tire remants as part of that claim. I think those tires are too light for a superduty truck rated at 3600# load capacity. There were no injuries with the blow-out, but i cut my finger really badly undoing the bent fender strut damaged by the tire in order to get the spare tire on. My wife was driving our 2000 f350 ford truck. It was equipped with firestone steeltex tires on the rear.at a speed of 55-60 mph on i17 in arizona my wife experienced a catastrophic tire failure on the left rear tire.there was no warning, the tire simply seemed to come apart. She managed to control the vehicle and bring it safely to a stop on the edge of the highway.she stated that there was no debris in the road.it was approx. 12:30 pm, the temperature was in the 90's, and the road was dry.after road service changed the tire she continued on to flagstaff, az and dropped the rim and destroyed tire off at a discount tire for replacement of the tire.the service writer stated thatwas the worse failure he had seen on a tire.the tires were oem.they had been inspected the week before by the local ford dealership as part of routine service the same week as the incident. The distruction of the tire resulted body damage to the left fender area of the vehicle.i requested and have the destroyed tire.i agree in over 20 years of military service i have never seen tire that failed in this manner.*nlm

The vehicle's tires began to wear unevenly and the suspension could not be balanced. The vehicle pulled constantly pulled to the right after it was aligned. The consumer inquired as to whether the tires on his vehicle was apart of the recall. The ford representative told the consumer the tires were not apart of the recall.a month later after going to the dealership the consumer experienced a tire blowout. The consumer has had ongoing problems with the tires for a year.the consumer was told he was not eligible for reimbursement because he no longer had the tires.

On april 17 i was driving north on i 75 in michigan when the right front exploded . I had been on the road for 8 hours and it was about 35 degrees . The next day i went to the dealer ship and they sent me to the firestone dealer . I was told the firestone did not make bad tires and told me it was ford problem. Called ford back told service manger what i was told . He said he would check in to it . Several day later ford called back and said all they would cover was one tire . I do not feel safe with these tires and would like ford replace these tires witth a diferent brand . I pull a 8000 lbs boat and am glad i was not towing it at the time the tire blew out . Tire blowout on 2001 f-350 with 32000 one-owner miles. Tire is a firestone steeltex a/t lt 265 75r16 123/1200. I have kept air pressure at ford's specifications. Miles are all highway or paved surface. I would say these have been easy miles on a commercial grade tire.

While traveling the speed limit on an interstate highway, june 2, 2002, we had only traveled approximately 20 miles, when we experienced a tire explosion on the front driver's side.this caused us to lose control of our vehicle, crossing two lanes of traffic, and ending up in the median.before coming to a complete stop, the vehicle had traveled approximately 60 yards, turned sideways, and almost rolled.my excursion was up on two wheels, nearly rolling over.it stayed suspended in air for a few seconds before falling back down on all four wheels.no other vehicle was involved, and no physical injury was incurred.however, it endangered the life of my family, and traumatized my children.there needs to be a further investigation into firestone tires.there definitely is a problem there.

I had just pulled onto the the interstate after filling up with gas.i was driving my 2002f-350 and pulling an 18 foot featherlite horse trailure.the trailure was empty.at the time i was traveling about 65 mph.all of a sudden i heard an extremely load roar.at the time i thought it was the engine so i let my foot off the gas and began to slow down.at between 40 to 45 mph i felt a violent jerk on my steerng wheel.i started to move off the freeway and could feel a violent vibration as if going over a wash board (it was not the ridges boundering the freeway).of course when i hit those the vibration was even worse.i slowly applied my breaks and got the vehile under control and came to a stop.when i got out i could smell rubber smoking.when i went around to inspect the rig the right rear tire was compltey shreaded.the outside side of the tire (white wall)was 100 percent shreading and completely severd from the wheel.the inside side (black wall) of the tire was 15 to 20 percent severed.the tire was the firestone steeltex at (lt265/75r16, made in canada, dot number vnw81xl 3601, 2ply, load range e).they were original equipment with 47.000 miles on them.personal note:i believe that the reason i did not have a more serious accident is becasue the roar i heard allowed me time to slow down.additionally, in this case, i believe the trailure breaking system assisted in keeping me going relatively straight until i was able to gain control and bring rig to a stop.

I have experienced what appears to be a side wall failure of a firestone light truck tire.the failure occurred shortly after entering the highway at a speed of approximately 65 mph.while accelarating down the entrance ramp i noticed a vibration coming from the rear of the truck which stopped once i merged onto the highway at about 55 mph.at that time i thought the vibration was due to rough pavement on the entrance ramp.a short time later, possibly 3 or 4 miles, the driver side rear tire blew.there was a slight loss of control as the rear end of the truck felt as if it were sliding from side to side.the truck noticeably leaned to the left .the exterior sidewall (facing the outside of the truck) of the tire had separated entirely leaving only a small ring of rubber around the rim of the wheel.i'm concerned that this is the type of failure that has occurred with other firestone tires.when i bought this truck i was told by the dealership that these tire were safe. I was proceding north on i17 just north of new river az when my left rear tire exploded. At the time i was traveling 75 mph which is the speed limit on the highway. I was in traffic and it took at least a mile to slow down and get off of the freeway safely. As i use this vehicle for recreational usage i had just had the tires rotated and i checked the air pressure 20 min. Before this occured. All tires where at the proper inflation and since the tires had more than 50 percent tread i felt they where in great shape. I have since retired all of the tires by replacing them as i can't take the chance of another blow out. I was lucky i was not towing the 26' trailer i usually tow with this vehicle.

As of september 10th, 2002, i have had two tires with seperated belts. I have had my excursion in two different dealerships due what appeared to be steering issues. The vehicle wonders on the road as if it has bald tires. I had one dealership tell me it is charactoristic of the vehicle. I had a second tell me it was tire pressure and proceeded to inflate my rear tires to 65 psi. I had another dealer this week tell me the two rear tire appear to have issues with the "belts". Now this same dealer just rotated my tires. I started researching for defects and was astonished at the amount of reports out there on the internet. Why is it that your agency is not pursuing these defects? please advise?nlm

Firestone tire defect - steeltex -- last week my son and two friends was driving my excursion at about 75 mph when the tread on the left front tire separated. This was witnessed by an on-coming driver. My vehicle ran off the road hit a culvert and flipped end-to-end. There was extensive damage to the vehicle both front top and rear. The air bags did not deploy. One passenger was life-flighted from the accident scene. Very fortunately all of the passengers were wearing seatbelts -- all were injured but none seriously -- the injuries of the passenger that was life-flighted was not as serious as initially believed.

My firestone tires came apart on my trip to nev. I was in a curve at 70mph with the cruise control on when the tred came off on the left rear tire throwing us into a skid. The tred riped out the splash gaurd and the fender moulding then hiting the rear quarter and leaving a14 by 8 inch dent. Then about an hour or so later the left front gets a ply seperation. I dont care about the junk tires but if my wife was driving i'm sure someone would of gotten hurt. I drove truck for about 16 years so my skill level is a little better than average.

On july 2nd 2003, we experienced a blowout on our 2001 suburban. The firestone steel-textires (245/75r16)only had 13571 miles on them and we had maintained the truck and tires according to the gm service schedule at the local dealership. We were hauling a trailer in the mountains; temperature was only 75degrees. We experienced a weird bumpy feeling and then a loud explosion. The tire tread was separting totally from the sidewalls. We had nowhere to pull off the highway to change the tire; it was a very dangerous potentially, deadly situation. Gm is unwilling to help cover the costs for replacement tires, so far. They only were willing to replace the blown tire with the exact same firestone.we did not even request that the tires be replaced at no cost to us; we just want some help towards the purchase of another make of tires. Given the number of similar complaints on your website; i can't imagine that there's no inherent flaw in these tires.
