Re: firestone lt245/75r16; load rated 'e'; mounted on a 2000 roadtrek camper, chevrolet express 3500 chassis.while traveling on i-95 @ 70mph the right rear tire tread separated from the tire. The rest of the tire simply shreaded. The impact of the tread on the wheelwell punched a hole (approx.14" x 20") in the storage compartment immediately behind the wheel well. The force of the impact also bent the locking mechanism on the storage access door flinging it open and allowing the contents of the bin to be propelled out onto the roadway. Fortunately no one was injured and the only property damage sustained was to our vehicle. Although there was a lot of traffic around us they all were able to manuever around the flying debris. Needless to say, this was a very harrowing experience.

We experienced three separate blowouts on a trip rom phoenix, az to san ramon, ca.the first and third blowout totally disintegrated the tires with onl the partial sidewalls left attached to the rims.each blowout occurred in the rear "dually" tires, 2 on the right and 1 on the left, each one a firestone original equipment tire.the force of the third, right rear blowout damaged the tail pipe and subsequebtly caused heat damage to a luggage storage compartment resulting in melted luggage handles and obviously, almost a fire.after each blowout, we stopped and purchased and replaced with a winston (kelly springfield) tire and for the rest of the trip, we had o problem with the new tires, as the remaining firestones continued to blowout. One of the firestone steeltex radial r4sl245/75/r16 tires on my van failed on the interstate. The tread with the steel bands separated from the tire at speed. Traveling up from va, the right rear firestone tire which is a lt245/75r16 mounted on a 19962500 suburban load range etire rated at max80 psi, was inflated to 65 psi.i felt a bobbling then the tread came off the casing, damaging the side of my suburban, ripping off the mud flap and damage the paint as it flopped around and just ripped itself off.fortunately the tire did not go flat but lost the entire tread portion.this set of four was purchase and was exact replacement from oem tire when new. There is about 80% tread on tires.firestone is telling me to run 45 psi in the front end 80 psi in the rear.i don't believe this is accurate.

My family and i were nearly killed when our right rear tire on our 1996 suburban lost it's tread.the tire was a firestone, at, steeltex, 245/75r16.the tire never lost pressure the tread came off and cause us to go out of control into oncoming traffic where we nearly hit a pickup truck head on.from the point where the tire lost the tread to the time that i avoided hitting the oncoming truck we were in a skid which was about 100 to 150 feet with a chord lenght of about 8'.since i had overcompensated to miss the oncoming truck we started to skid sideways with the front tires pointed towards the shoulder of the road.at the time that the vehicle left the road we were just past perpendicular to the highway.i don't think that i had applied any brakes because i was afraid that it would make matters worse perhaps it would roll.at that time we left the road...i cranked the wheel the opposite way to avoid rolling the vehicle.it started to go straight for a time then it spun around the other direction...we were skidding with the front of the vehicle pointed towards the highway.we skidded sideways for several feet where we came to rest next to a telephone pole.my wife, my 7 year old daughter, and my twin babies luke and marin, 2 years old were in the back seat.everyone was shaken up.luckily no one was injured.there is approximatly $2,500 damage to our vehicle.$1,000 to the yard that we damaged.the day before our trip i took the suburban to get the tires checked at a firestone dealership.there was 8/32nds of tread on the tires.

I have a firestone lt245 75r16 steeltex a/t that i used on my suburban.i removed it to install larger tires and used the best take-off for a spare kept inside the vehicle.i kept that spare to use on my truck that i purchased a few months ago and put the spare in the bed of the truck, kept inside a garage.while the tire did not "blow" and lose air, it separated and threw off 1/3 of the circumference worth of tread while just setting there.i kept the carcus to hand over if your interested.i do have a few digital pictures i could send you.this tire should also be off the road.
