Srs light has come on 3 times. The first two visits petersen motors reset the system, found nothing. The first time petersen motors suggested it was caused by low battery voltage. Nonsense, they didn't find the problem and the battery is new. They cleared the code and charged $72. After the 2nd visit, i was told if it happens again they would have to replace the driver's airbag. After the 2nd visit the light came back on within 2 weeks. After 3rd incident, petersen motors stated over the phone it is the control unit which would cost about $460 to replace. On each of the 3 occasions, i stopped the car briefly. When i restarted my car, the srs light came on and stayed on. At this time i haven't had this problem fixed. 2 of 4 original firestone tires failed. The 1st failure occurred as i drove the car off the lot - it had a radial pull, causing the car to turn upon acceleration. The 2nd firestone tire failure occurred at about 26,000 miles. After driving several hours at 75 mph on a 95 degree day, there was a bulge in the sidewall. At that time i replaced all 4 tires with a different brand.nlm

At 4;30 am on oct. 15, 2000, i was driving south on i-95 in southern georgia on a return trip from louisville, ky. To pompano beach, fl. When i heard a noise in the rear of my car and realized that i had a tire problem. At once i knew that the tire had not deflated and that i was in control of the car. I reduced my speed and turned on my emergency blinkers and could hear a flapping noise coming from the left rear. Since the road was very dark and the traffic very fast i felt like it was safer to proceed than to stop and change a driver side tire on the interstate at night. I drove slowly several miles to the next exit where i replaced the tire with the small spare. I found that an 8 inch section of the tread had come off. Although my tires are not covered under the recall, i believe that they have the same problem. Two of the three remaining tires have hairline cracks at the edge of the tread and could be ready to do the same thing. I contacted a lincoln-mercury dealer who said he could not help me (other than selling me new tires) and sent me to the firestone dealer who said he could sell me a new set of tires and give me a 20% customer satisfaction discount. I'm still trying to decide what to do and still have the three remaining tires on my car and the failed one in the trunk. I'm wondering if others have had a similar problem with the fr 680 and if it will also be covered by a recall. (dot number: w2m3 ipn 2tiresize: p215/70r15)

Tires had 16,000-miles , tire came aparton i-70 in colorado at 75 m.p.h. Was able to maintain control.went to the firestone dealer and got new tire free of charge. The following year the remaining 3-tires cracked all the way around sidewall. I went to the firestone dealer and they adjusted the 3-tires for 16.00 dollars. I was driving my 1999 honda civic lx 4 door vehicle on a return trip from birmingham, al to atlanta, ga and about 45 minutes into my return trip the tread separated from the front right tire of my vehicle.i was fortunate that that although the 1/3 of the tread separated from the tire it did not blow out and i was able to get to an exit safely.i then proceeded to a walmart tire replacement center where i asked the technician if this was the first time he had seen this happen.the technician told me that this was the second time he had seen this issue within the past 2 months and that the other tire that was brought in for replacement had only been on the car for a few weeks (my tire was about 2 years old).i contacted firestone to inform them of the issue and was told that they could only take action if i could mail them the tire.i provided firestone the contact number for the tire shop where they could obtain the tire if needed for analysis (firestone was not interested in obtaining the tire).the tire that was involved was an fr 680.

We were driving down the street in port allegheny, pa about 25 miles per hour, when our rear firestone tire blew out.our vehicle had just over 6,000 miles on it.there did not appear to be anything in the street to cause the problem.i contacted gmac and firestone, but neither suggested any recall of our tires.i am concerned about the safety issue and future blowouts at higher speeds.since firestone refused to comply with the stated warranty, i purchased a competitor's brand at a slightly higher price.

Tires firestone: fr680, p205/70r15 95s, m+s. On a toyota sienna 2002. 2 tires were completely worn down to nothing. Got toyota dealership to do a wheel alignment & replace 2 tires for free since i had been going to them for all service & they never noticed the worn tires. Now one rear tire has a sidewall tear. I took it to a firestone dealer, and he said it's not under warranty -- just wear and tear -- rim had a slight dent so he deducted it was because we hit a bump or sidewalk. But there is also a crack in the sidewall as well.

I was driving on the 101 califonia highway (northbound) in an uphill section near agoura hills, when suddenly we heard a sound like "clack" twice. I was traveling on the middle lane and signaled to my right so i could pull out of the road. Then, there was this huge sound, and i felt the passenger's rear side tire blow up. I almost lost control of the car but was able to pull out of the road. Neither me nor my wife & 7 month old son were injured. When i got out of the car, i found out the tire's tread had separated and it caused the rear bumper to become deattached. I changed the tire and put the spare one. The car lost the rear bumper and had some dents as a result of the tread separation. I just bought the car a month ago, and the tires looked in good conditions. (dot number: n/atiresize: p185/65r14)

There is about a 4 to 5 inch long gap on the outer edge of the tread area where it has separated from the tire.i have called the firestone hotline number, but they told me that there is nothing they will do because my tire is not included in the recall.i would replace the tire, but i cannot afford to do that.i am on a tight budget.firestone says their number 1 concern is customer safety.i don't think it is, or they would have already replaced my tire. While driving on interstate 65 n near seymour indiana our tire dissentigrated.we pulled over immediately and found 2 sides on the tire with the middle tread missing.we replaced all four tires within 1 day because of safety concerns.the rim was not damaged.the accident happened with 2 adults and 5 children in the van.this could have been a major tragedy.i have a picture of the damaged tire that i can email if necessary.i would like to be re-imbursed for the expense of the new tires. Van was bought used from dealer but i knew previous owner. Van had 4 like new tires. Van was in near mint condition despite age and mileage. While on vacation, right rear tire blew out. Big hole, steel belt shredded. Was able to change spare despite very hazardous location. Made it into douglas georgia, everything closed except wal-mart. Replaced tire with goodyear tire. About 1 month later was near dothan alabama and about 45 miles from home when i noticed same symptoms other tire had displayed before blowing out. Tried to make it home but tire blew out exactly like first one on the choctawhatchee river bridge. Tire was again replace at wal-mart. About 2 weeks later i noticed tread on right front was showing steel belt through break in tread. I phoned firestone headquarters and asked if there was a problem with tires. Was told no but they would give me an adjustmetn on the 2 which were still on vehicle. I took van to ron's firestone in genevea, ala. Rons had sod tires originally and was very familiar with van as he had done all maintenance on it. Rons replaced both tires although the adjustment was so poor that i could have just gone to wal-mart and bought 2 new comparable or better tires for same price. When news of latest recall came out i phoned firestone toll free number. Was told to call another number. Did so and was told they would call me back. They never did. Have attempted several times to call their customer service number and have been put on hold each time for over and hour (yes that's right) and still didn't get through. Tried to phone regular corporate number but they refused to put me through to anyone. It appears firestone has erected a total wall around company except for one toll free number which can only give advice about certain things and are not allowed to be discussed. Frankly am fed up with the company and their refusal to deal with problem.( dot number: unknown tire size: 235 75r15 )

Firestone tires fr680, 215/70r15.replaced the tires on the front of my vehicle at 25,000 miles due to severe flat spotting & steel chords showing.rear tires fine.chevy dealer confirmed no wheel alignment issues exist.the tires are defective and should be recalled, and should not be used as oem on chevy vehicles going forward.my front tires have been replaced with michelin with no wear issues, and no repairs being made in regards to alignments, etc.

I took my saturn for it's yearly inspection at my local saturn dealer. They told me my driverside front tire was worn, but not due to normal wear, the treads were ready to peel off. They told me the car would not pass inspection as is because of the tire and i had them put a new firestone tire on. I then brought the bad tire to firestone and told them what happened.they said they could only replace the tire and not give a refund on the tire. I feel firestone should give me a refund on the tire because the tire was'nt worn out normaly and the car needed that tire to pass inspection. I also called firestone and they told me the same thing as the manager at there store told me that they could'nt give me a refund. (tiresize: 17570r14)( dot number:tire size: 17570r14 )

I've been complaining to buick dealer since 10/99 about vibration and wobbling in car and steering wheel, but dealer could never find anything wrong.in an effort to find problem, dealer rotated tires (for the third time), and technician found "funny spot" (looked like a slit) on sidewall of tire.i watched tire for a week and tire was splitting more on sidewall so i took it to a firestone dealer.firestone replaced tire for cost to me of the tread i had used, plus waste fee.(wanted to charge me for balance, mount, etc. And i refused to pay it.)firestone technician said, in fact, tire had come apart at the "join" and that is why sidewall was splitting too.unforturnately, we have 16" wilderness at tires (made in canada) on our 2000 chevrolet pick-up.i contacted firestone by phone about these tires on both our vehicles and their attitude was ludicrous, considering the recall going on at present.they could have cared less and just said nothing was wrong with any of our tires, even though i told them i had a defective tire on my car!!!i believe nhtsa should force firestone to replace all wilderness tires, no matter what size they are, and all other tires that may be found defective at this time!!!i drive 300 miles on the weekend to the country, and am very nervous and uncomfortable, to say the least, about these tires on our car and truck!please help us and everyone else stuck with these crummy firestone tires!p.s. I also contacted chevrolet, and the dealers where these vehicles were purchased, and none of them will do anything about these tires.chevrolet was also very lax and unconcerned about this situation.what does it take to light a fire under these companies???( dot number: unknown tire size: p215/70r15 )

I was driving on a highway at about 50 mph as the rear passenger tire blew out, i lost control of the car, swerved over a lane then off the highway, hitting the curb and ending up in a grassy area.the police arrived and courtesy patrol arrived to assist in changing the tire.their objective was to immediately get me on my way, so the courtesy worker threw my tire into the trunk and i left.when i got to the tire store we evaluated the tire and 40% of the tire had separation.the car has maintenance done every 3000 miles, so tires were rotated and properly inflated.( dot number: w2epbca428 tire size: p17570r14 )

I have had two tires fail through the sidewall of the tires.both tires were rear, 49,000 miles.the vehicle had just passed inspection, tires were in excellent condition.the tire is 185/65r14 85s firestone fr680.i replaced one with a new firestone and the other with a goodyear republic.is there a recall on this tire?i have two more that could blow at any time on the front.

While traveling on highway at 70 mph we had a sidewall blow out on the right rear tire.firestone fr680 p215/70r15 tires were installed on april 29, 2003 and had less than 5,000 miles at time of blow out.checked tire pressure previous saturday and all were ok.also checked tire pressure on other 3 tires after blow out and all were ok.the incident occurred at 10:00 p.m. While driving on i-75 north down a 4% grade.fortunately we didn't have an accident.we had our four kids in the car ages 10 and under.needless to say we don't feel very safe driving on these tires. *nlm

The front left high performance tire developed a huge bubble on one side. Dealer claimed that a cut was made on the inside of the tire.

The sidewall has a definite seperation around theentire edge, i reported it to my dealership but they denied any defects, then saturn sent me a letter infroming me they would completely warrant the tire but dealer still refuses to do it even withproof from letter. Driving south on i-5, at approx 70mph, rear tires went flat.first, rear passenger tire blew to shreds and sidewall separated.car started to fishtail and rear, driver side, tire went flat, probably rolled off of the rim.dealership looked at tires and confirmed that tire is defective, damage not caused by road hazard.have not yet submitted problem to firestone.in process of filing claim.currently have possession of all four tires. All 4 tires on vehicle have "bulges" on the exterior sidewalls, did not check interior sidewalls.the left side bulges are the worst, the front being the worst of all.the bulges are nearer to the tread than the center of tire.there are apprx 3 to 5 bulges around the perimeter of the tires. There is no noticible performance issues at this time, but having all tires like this makes me very nervous.i did have a sidewall failure a few months after i purchased the van, but i attributed it to a low speed bump into a low curb as i was making a right hand turn into a gas station. During normal driving conditions (no rain, snow, hazards) our right rear tire failed. The tread completely separated from the tire destroying the rim abs harness cable and other for a total of 2000.00 damage. No injuries. The tires have very little wear (9000 miles). I immediately replaced all the tires with another brand. The catastrophic failure of the tire concerns me and believe the tire to be faulty. I would like to have the tire analized by an independent lab to let and to give their opinion of why the tire failed. Is there a indiependent investigation lab in my area who could assist me with this problem? i'd appreciate your response. (dot number: w2mb3bcb08tiresize: 21570r1597)

On 8/31 i was driving on a highway at about 65 or 70 mph. I was heading straight and without any advanced notice my tires spun out from underneith me and the car spun 5 complete turns before stopping on the side of the road. I very barely missed the median and was physically ok. When i looked at my two front tires, 1/4 of the treading had completely come away from the tire. The tire had no tread and had come off down to the wires. I was able to exit the ditch that i was in and get to a sears where i had two new michelin tires but on the front two tires. However i still have 2 of the original equiptment. Although they have not been in the recalls, this happened exactly the same way the recalled tires have blown out and could have severe, if not fatal.( dot number: tire size: 175 70r14 )

Had tires rotated and balancedseven(7) times between purchase date and failur date of 8/21/00 tires still had 6-7/32 of rubber on treadwhen 3 out of 4 tires had the tread seperate from the casing. Tires completely failed with plenty of rubber still left. I drive 35,000-40,000 miles a year all road milage. On every previous set of tires i havegotten 10,000-15,000 additional miles, even though they were rated at 50,000. I do not feel the tires shoud have a complete failure with this muchtread left on them. Had i not taken car in fornormal rotation and balance, and the dealer pointed out the tread seperation instead of on interstate 4 the out come may have been very different. 3 out of the tires could have come apart at 70 miles per hour, and quite frankly could have had aterrible accident.( dot number: tire size: 20565sr15 )

Driving south on i-15 north of las vegas, tire tread on passenger side rear wheel separated without warning.it was a hot day (around 110 degrees) and the highway speed there is 75 m.p.h. The tread flew up and smashed the side window of the sienna minivan, tore off part of the side fender and damaged the sliding door.the tires had been well maintained and had been inpected within the previous month at the toyota dealer.nonetheless, firestone has refused to compensate us for the monetary loss and has tried to shift the blame to us, saying there was proof that the tire had been run low, etc.(we had to drive on the tire after we lost the tread as we were in a remote area. Since there was still air in the tire i drove slowly to where we could get help.) thus i have argued that the wear found by their "engineers" was due to driving on a treadless tire which was losing air. I have requested firestone to send us back the damaged tire. The damage repair bill was $1780, plus the cost of the rental car etc.
