On july 21, 2004, i purchased a new 2004 saturn ion quad coupe and on august 3, 2004, i experienced tread and belt separation on the driver's side front tire.i was traveling approximately 40-45 mph, heard a loud noise and suddenly lost control of the car and discovered i had no brakes either, (the tire had ripped the brake lines).i was only able to stop the vehicle after hitting a road sign.the tire in question, came standard on the vehicle (which had 816 miles on it) and was a firestone firehawk gta 03, (p205/55r16).i suffered a fracture to my right forearm, multiple contusions, approximately $6000 worth of vehicle damage, (not including the immediate depreciation of a brand new vehicle), and ultimately loss of my employment related to no transportation.i called the saturn customer svc. Center and they towed the vehicle to the dealership.they kept the vehicle there for more than 30 days, when they had a saturn representative fly down from tn to tell me they have no responsibility, even though not one of the 6 airbags deployed, and that i should contact firestone, however in the meantime i must immediately removed the vehicle from their premises!!i filed an incident report and shipped the tire to firestone, per their request, only to be told 28 days later that they do not have any responsibility since the damage was a result of a "360 degree spin cut through the tread".my insurance told me that if i filed the claim through them that i would be "heavily penalized" since it was obvious that i was not at fault.so, i lost my job, spent all of my savings, got behind on all of my bills and all i have to show for it is a new car that is not drivable!

The transmission was very hard to shift into 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, very hard to get into 1st gear from a complete stop almost impossible.the sunroof has stuck open to about 10 times, it has never seated into the roof correctly the back sticks up about a 1/4 inch in the rear of the sunroof expecially the driver side rear corner they said they completly replaced it but it still will not seat completly.the brakes make a whining sound all the time.( dot number: tire size: 19560r15 )

I have firestone fire hawk tires on my 2002 mercury couger xr.the tire model number is 215-50-17.my car has 44,000 miles on it.i bought it new and i have had 5 flat tires on the front two tires of my car.the rear tires have 44,000 miles on them.each time i get a flat tire, the tire is shredded in the inside and i have been lucky that i was driving in the city not going very fast.i have been told every time that my tire pressure must be low and therefore caused a flat.i got my 5th flat tire in 4 yrs on 11/22/07 (thanksgiving).my tires had just been check when i got my oil change two weeks before, but i still got a flat tire.i had just been driving on a hwy going 65mph and i am thankful it didn't happen then, i am disabled and the road i had been driving on was in the middle of no where.soon after i return to town i got a flat tire.my husband was then in the car with me.i took the tire in to pomps tires the same place i have always taken them, and the tire was again shredded.i am not sure if anyone else has had this problem but i truly think these tires are defective and dangerous.

I have a 2004 saturn l300.around 34,000 i noticed noises coming from my tires.i took the car to the dealer, which is still under warranty and they told me i needed a four wheel alignment and four new tires.this would not be covered under the factory bumper to bumper warranty and would cost me over 700.00.i never had to get a four wheel alignment this early on a car and i take car of my cars.i think this is insane, i called saturn in tennessee complained, they stated that tires and alignments are preventative maintenance.well how about that.i even paid the extra fees, included in my payments to cover oil changes and alignments.if there was a problem, they should have caught it when the car was being serviced.anyway, while doing research online, there are other cases of this out there, lots of them.check out www.saturnfans.com, www.automotiveforums.com and even this site, www.nhtsa.dot.gov.so much for people first.i plan to post this information on other forums.please let me know if anyone else is having this [email protected]

My ford focus ztx has 4 firestone firehawk gta 02 p205/50r15 m+s 86h tires on it and the vehicle only has 20,119 miles on it. I rotated the tires every 6,000 miles as recommended and on th elast oil change and tire rotatin appointment, the firestone dealer adivsed me not to rotate the tires because their are defects in the tires and the rear tires rotated to the front would cause more road noise. The auto is under bumper to bumper warranty and the ford dealership would not cover the tires because the service manager said they do not carry firestone tires anymore even though these were the brand installed on the vehicle by the factory.*a

Recently bought a newer car(o3 ion coup) was told the tires were new after driving about 5,793 miles i am told by the dealer that the tire have chopp. I as well now see their is a recall on the tire line nhtsa id # 01t006000. They are firestone tires fire hawk gta-02 205-55r16.the dealer told me their was nohazard but now im very concerned.the car is not riding right. The dealer at this point is only willing to replace one tire. I as well have filed a claim withmy warranty road hazardat 1-800346-6469 claim # 21833283 as of 11/07/2007. I have contacted the dealer to try and get them replaced under their warranty. I only have driven 5,793 miles on the tires. I feel that their is a problem with the tire. Andam unsure of where to go with this now....

The contact owns a 2001 nissan altima.the vehicle has firestone firehawk gtx-02, size p205/55r16 tires.the contact stated that the sidewalls were cracked and separating from the tires and the belts were also becoming loose.he further stated that the tires were vibrating, making noise, and air kept leaking out of them.all four tires had to be replaced.firestone stated that they should have replaced the tires, not him.the current mileage was 38,620 and failure mileage was 37,000. In mar '02, i bought a new nissan sentra se-r that came w/ firestone firehawk gta-02 195/55/r16 tires. I always rotate my tires every 2 oil changes (~7000 miles) and check/inflate tire psi every few months. In jan 05 i went to allied tires for an alignment. When i picked up my car, they showed me large splits/cracks all around the inner sidewall of all 4 tires. (at this point my car had ~28000 miles) they said if i didn't get the tires replaced asap, i would have a blowout. None of them had ever seen anything like this. I had all 4 tires replaced at sears soon after. (it was est. 10000 miles of tread left on the "faulty" tires) the mechanic said he also noticed the splitting on the "faulty" tires and hadn't seen anything like it either. On may 31, 05, i took the "faulty" tires (which i still have) to nissan. They didn't know what could have caused the splitting, and said to deal w/ firestone. At firestone, the mechanic said it looked like i got a bad batch of tires with the car, but that his comment was "off the record" since he didn't want to bad mouth firestone. When the manager came out, he blatantly beat around the bush, saying that since the tires weren't on the car, they didn't know if i was telling the truth (ie: since the tires were off, he thought i could have purposely damaged the tires to take advantage of him, even though i had 3 other companies as eye witnesses). He then said if i had the tires still on the car, he would've been able to give me a pro-rated reimbursement. I still don't understand why the tires needed to be on the car for the manager to notice the fault in them... In the end, i was offered no compensation for these faulty tires, but the more important problem in my eyes is that of safety. I don't believe these tires are safe, esp. Considering my experience w/ them. For tires to "split" as mine did makes everyday driving for me and others around me very dangerous. I can send pictures via email if desired. Thanks for your time

I am writing to your department with respect to the firestone tire recall.from what i gather the recall has been expanded to include other models of firestone tires not originally included in the initial recall.therefore, i wanted to provide you with the following information on my situation to determine if i would qualify for recall relief.vin # [xxx], 2002 nissan sentra ser, firestone firehawk gta02 tires, p195/55r16 86h and labeled made in mexico.there was no plant number listed on the inside wall of the tire.please let me know if i have any claims under these circumstances, thanks! updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The tires on my 2003 saturn lw300 have to be replaced after only 23,000 miles and i have been told that the suspension on the l series for saturn is causing excessive wear on the tires.i do feel it is worth you looking at how many people are having to buy new tires after only 2 years and low mileage use.

Recently prurchased a new saturn l300 wagon with firestone firehawk gtx tires (standard). The road vibration from these tires is concerning, it can be felt through the body of the car and steering wheel particuliarly at highway speeds. Occasionally a tire may also feel as though it has a flat and rides rough, upon inspection it is fine. I have brought this to the attention of the dealer three times, they have been balanced twice, and told by the dealer that this is normal for these tires. They have even stated per their district manager that other saturn's are even worse than mine!!!! i give up. I have also sent an e-mail to firestone with no response!!!!! all i want is resolution so i can feel i am driving a safe car with my children in the back seat.

First incident occurred when a pothole was struck with the right front, causing a blister to the sidewall and a slight bend to the rim. Upon review of the shallow depth of the pothole, i could not believe it caused a problem. One week later, the rear tire on the same side showed a blister. The rim was fine and have no recallection of hitting anything. Another week and another pothole. This time a flat, on the same front. Now a severely bent rim; on the inside. The rim was repaired and the tire reinstalled. However, no new blister occurred on the inside wall.i have made this same commute for 10 years with other vehicles shod with off-brand tires, and never had an incident of any kind.

I own an 2004 saturn ion 3 that came with firestone, firehawk gta tires and the size is p205/55r16 89h m+s. I had an oil change and tire rotation at 6,000 miles. On 3/3/2005 i had a blowout while driving on the expressway. This was at nine at night and i had forgotten my cellphone and was made late for work. With semi's driving by at 70 mph on i-75 i was in fear for my life while changing the tire. On 3/4/2005 i called the saturn dealership and asked them if they had the tire and how much etc. They transferred me to service and they said to bring the car in. I was happily surprised since this was friday at noon. They inspected the tire for punctures (found none) and i think they were surprised at the sidewall separation. They replaced the tire under warranty (no charge). The tire had 9,000 miles at the time.while driving down a side road at 30 mph i heard a clunk and thought snow was hitting the tire. This then quieted down. I got on the expressway and went two miles before i heard a noise that i thought was a helecopter overhead. I pulled over and found the tire had blown out. Now i don't feel safe driving on the expressway in my new vehicle.

I have a 2001ford focus. My daughter just had a blowout of the front tire while driving over railroad tracks in danbury ct.the tracks do not stick up very much.this is the 3rd blow on this car.the car only has 35000 miles on it.the tires are firestone firehawk gta 02.i have looked on the internet and many other people with the ford focus have this problem.they also claim they are an all season tire and if you look on tirerack.com everybody says they are terrible in the rain and snow.they are the lowest rated tire on the site in their relative catagory.my brother talked to firestone when the first tire blew out and they said they would only prorate the tire. They didn't feel the tire was defective.we ended up getting 2 different brand tires and those are fine.i now will go and purchase 2 more, i will not wait for the 4th tire to blow out!they still have plenty of tread on them so its a shame, but i feel these tires definitely have a manufacturing defect.
