Firestone's tire problem goes far beyond the scope of the current recall.i replaced my 265/75r15 tires 4 years ago because they (all 4) were cracked all along the outside tread, the same area where the treads are seperating on the 235/75r15.my current set is doing the same!les shwab tire company says that the problem with my tires is definately a manufacturing defect.these tires are all manufactured the same, just in different widths.defects that are affecting one size will be affecting the whole tire line.when will the rest of us get our tires replaced?before or after a major accident?( dot number: tire size: 265/75r15 )
Dear nhtsa, i had many tire failures with my firestone atx ii tires.i purchased them when my car had 57,358 miles on 03/19/94.i drove approximately 20,000 miles per year.all the previous tire failures were blowouts i had while driving with my family on the highway.each time i went to the firestone service center for prorated tire repairs.they kept trying to blame my blowouts on my aluminum wheel rims although i never had any problems with my previous uniroyal tires.in 1998 after yet another tire problem i switched to michelins, and i have since sold the vehicle in 8/99.at the time of these problems, i was concerned as to the amount of blowouts i had, and until the recall came out ithought it might be of some relevance to you.i have all my original paperwork from firestone.many of the replacement tires i had carried in to the store so i don't have exact milage of the tires.i do possibly have at least one of these tires on my property but it would require some effort to retrieve and find it.i believe that the problem with these tires has been going on for a lot longer than firestone has led me to believe and i would be willing to help you in any way i can.i am also going to contact firestone' s website and give them this information as well.sincerely lisa r. The tire blew with very little warning.the entire sidewall separated from the rest of the tire.i had originally thought it might have been due to a road hazard that i had not seen.since the recent reports i do notthink so.it looked exactly like some of the pictures i saw on the news.in over 40 years of driving i have never seen a sidewall seperate like that.i did not pay that much attention to the tread.the tire had 20k+ miles on it but was not in bad shape.( dot number: tire size: 235x15 )
Going 70 thud thud thud and flat. Steel belt split.( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 )
While driving south from atlanta on i75 at 70mph the right rear tire exploded with a roar.my wife, who was driving, managed to ease the car off the road. The tire was totally disintegrated. We called aaa who removed the wheel and installed the spare. On june 28 we took the car to firestone tire co at 2211 appalache pkwy, tallahassee, fl , 32301 tel 850-877-0184. They could offer no explanation as to why the tire disintegrated so totally. We bought a new firestone radl atx i i tire which they installed.( dot number: tire size: 23575r15 )
I was traveling on i-75 southbound from ga. To fl. At 70 mph when i heard a loud noise from the front of my ford explorer.i observed a piece of tire tread in my rearview mirror.not having lost control or feeling like my tire was flat, i beleived i had run over a piece of old tread in the roadway.i motioned to a driver next to me to look at my tire.he motioned back that it looked ok.i continued driving from the wildwood, fl. Area to tampa, fl. At interstate speed and through intermitant rain.upon arriving home and after driving the vehicle again for an errand, i checked the tire and observed that the entire tread of my right front tire was gone!i went to the firestone store @ 9035 n. Florida ave, tpa and was told that i must have struck something, possibley a nail, and that made the tread separate. And, that tread will not just come off a tire.i was sold another atx.( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 )
On three separate occasions, three (3) tires have separated from the belts.one left-rear tire separated on the highway at 70 mph.the car started shimming, then a thump, and you could hear flapping.the tread had completely separated from the belts.( dot number: )
Incident 1 happened on hwy 5 going north to santa rosa. Tire tread spun off and destroyed the wheel well and side mouldings. Since firestone could not explain why this would happen i bought 4 new tires to replace the all but the spare. The original tires came from canada. The second incident happened in palm spring and again the firestone dealer said he could not explain why but sometimes it just happens. This second detreading occurred after only 27000 miles. I replaced the second tire with wilderness but i am currently using the original spare since i didnot want to buy 4 new tires to match.( dot number: w1hl tire size: 235r15 )
While traveling on i-10 westbound, just west of tallahassee fl, the tread suddenly separated from my left rear tire, causing me to lose control for a few seconds. Because there was no other traffic nearby, and i didn't use my brakes to slow down, damage was confined to my left rear fender and wheel well. My speed was around 75 mph,the highway was straight, my tire pressure was 32 psi (cold). I wasn't sure what had happened, but when the thumping on the undercarriage of my truck stopped, i checkedbehind me and saw a tire tread belt on the highway. Not sure if it was my own, or already on the highway, using a lower rate of speed, i proceeded to the next rest area, (37 miles), where i verified what had happened. Unable to break loose the lug nuts, i proceeded to the nearest exit where i could have the tire changed, (about 20 miles?) driving 50-55 mph. This tire is a firestone atx ii, size 215/75r/15, one of a pair i had purchased as replacement tires on 08/19/99. I had inquired four times since the recall had begun in 2000 through 2001, about having them replaced but was told this size was not on the list. On the last try, the tire dealer tried to convince me that firestone had never made such a tire, until i asked him to check his records for august of 1999! my truck: 1996 dodge dakota sport, mileage: 87000. Vin # 1bfl26xotw700488. Tires: atx ii size 215/75r15, miles 38,000, dot# w2------. I am in the process of contacting a firestone dealership or the firestone co. Consumer line.*nlm
I was traveling on the interstate when the tread on my tire peeled off. I was able to stop before i had a complete blow out.( dot number: w2hlimo212 tire size: p235-75-15 )
I am waiting to obtain photographs of the tire to verify which model of tire this was, as we purchased this firestone because it was the only available at the time we needed it.i just want to report that we experienced tire tread separation.we found it odd when our tire appeared to have "blown"..and when we stopped to change it, the tire was still inflated, but nearly all of the tread was gone.this caused body damage to our truck and could have caused a serious accident.we thought it was a strange occurence...as prior to this there was nothing wrong with the tire, we hadn't even had it a year.( dot number: )
