Catastrophic centrifugal explosion of a firestone affinity touring tire while travelling on a congested interstate highway at a fairly high rate of speed (65mph). The force of the explosion tore off the bumper valance, bumper cushion, belly pan, inner fender wells, fender skirt, fender to body mounts and damaged the fender and same-side door. The debris showered into traffic. Tire was purchased new at a firestone dealer in 2014 and had 26k miles according to the figure on warranty. It had no injuries and was never repaired. It's speed rating was 92t and it was manufactured in week 31 of 2012. This tire as well as other three showed signs of premature wear and deterioration. Have purchase receipt and warranty to support the claim of premature wear and deterioration. Have the tire and car also. Photographs are available and have been uploaded to a google's data base for "firestone centrifugal tire explosion."

Bought firestone affinity touring tires two years ago, and on my rear tire the sidewall blew a 4.5 " chunk out of it where the tread meets the sidewall. I have had my alignment checked twice since buying the tires and they are rotated every 5-5.5k miles. The tires are 195/60/15. I contacted firestone but did not receive a response.

Rear driver side firestone tire guaranteed for 70,000 miles blown into pieceswhile driving on march 11, 2019. It has only 36,000 miles on it. On march 12, 2019, i notified brian of firestone customer service (800/367-3872) and he asked me to take it for inspection by firestone, 715b merrick ave, westbury, ny 11590 (516/228-9055) at 11.00 am on march 14, 2019

Drove home from work at 35 mph. The next morning noticed tire tread had separated from the sidewall around much of the perimeter of the tire. Tire was flat.

Tire has bulge in sidewall. Owner noticed it and was able to prevent a blow out. This is not an impact related damage.

On 6/13/2015 i purchased a new set of firestone affinity touring p225/60r17 98h tires from firestone complete auto care store and while driving home i noticed a bumping noise. When i arrived home i noticed a large blister popping out from the bead rim area.i notified firestone monthdayyearwere there any deaths or injuries? yes nowas there a fire:yesnoproperty damage:yesnoabout the defect and they replaced the tire however i noticed on my receipt they wrote the wrong dot plug information down on two of the tires one being the bad one. I contacted firestone to find out what was wrong with the tire and they said it was from an imp1057 characters remaining for descriptionact. I know that this is totally untruesince i worked in the industry for over 20 years. It was a manufacturing defect that ripped the bead and not my fault. The tire was so bad that if i had an impact that bad it would have effected both the front and rear as well as damaging the rim.i had my local mechanic check it and he confirmed what i said and was amaised i made it home without blowing out. Even though it was a defect they never offered any compensation that i was lucky nor replaced the other tire with the wrong dot plug.i f needed i have several pictures to prove my case. Also what is the likleyhood of getting two tires with the wrong dates? i think they forgot to change the plug when they should have and they got out in the field. I have tried since june to see what they could do for me compensation wise like a new set of tires but the rep i spoke to did nothing so i told him my next resort was to report this incident to your agency and pay whatever fines applicable. Thanks for your time and consideratiom with this matter.

On tuesday, august 14, 2012, my wife took our granddaughter shopping.after dropping her off at home, my wife proceeded to drive ~30 miles home.on the way she noted a thumping sound coming from the front passenger side tire.she stopped at a gas station about halfway home to call me and ask that i come out to change the tire.at that time she noted a blister in the tire sidewall.moments later there was a loud bang and the tire blew out while sitting at the gas station.the following day i took the vehicle back to the firestone dealer where the tires where purchased in the fall of 2010.after listening to a litany of excuses for the failure, including; she (my wife) must have hit a pot hole, tires were under inflated, front wheels were not aligned, tires had not been rotated, finally the salesperson conceded that the tire should not have blown out.the bad tire was replaced at minimum expense to me, but i paid for most of the other front tire, in order to have two tires with similar wear on the front of the vehicle.

I leased my vehicle the end of may 2008. The tires on the vehicle were factory installed. I have had the tires rotated at least every 5,000 miles. At the last rotation appointment, the mechanic stated the tires barely passed nys inspection, as they had only 2/32" of tread left. At that time the tires had approximately 18,400 miles on them. Since the rotation, i can hear a thumping-type sound while driving any speed. The toyota dealership where i lease the car from states they will have to check with toyota, but if i didn't have the rotations (maintenance) performed at a toyota dealership, i may have to purchase new tires. The general manager recently stated in writing that the tires on my vehicle only have a life expectancy of 20,000, which incidentally was not represented at time of lease or in the lease contract which allows for 36,000 miles in 36 months. This is the first time i have leased from toyota, but my family and i have leased many other model vehicles and have never had problems with tires, let alone run them bald in 18,400 miles! a different toyota salesperson stated to me that she has heard of many people running into this problem with the firestone affinity touring tires installed on toyota leased vehicles. I have 7 months left on my lease. I'd also like to add that i am a single mother to 3 small children that i drive everyday in this car, and i work full time, so i do not have the time to get the run around from the dealership. Winter is upon us in buffalo, ny and with these tires on the car, i am bound to have an accident, blow-out or other possibly life threatening incident in the next few months. The reason i lease is because i drive low miles and do not have the time or money to make continuous repairs to a vehicle. I do not have the ability to wait for toyota to "decide" if they will replace the tires, especially considering this seems like a factory defect.

My mechanic noticed tire ware defective.he showed me where the side walls had a slice going around the outer tire toward the tread side of the side wall.the two front tires (firestone affinity touring) had a significant slice, as if the tire would split and the two back tires were showing signs of doing the same thing only not as bad yet.he recommended i go back to place of purchase and inquire about these tires being defective. This was august, 26, 2011.firestone took off the two front tires and sold me 2 new tires(fr710) , saying the back two (affiinity touring) weren't bad enough to use warranty.however, if i can in the very next week, which was a new month, he could help me with my back two tires.my time was limited and i did not get my car in until 2 months later.now firestone won't honor replacing the back tires.the slice is still there and my concern is if the tires are defective, am i safe driving around on them?the two front were apparently bad enough to replace.

The contact owns a 2000 honda cr-v equipped with firestone affinity touring tires, size p205/70r15 95s. While driving various speeds over 30 mph, the vehicle would pull to the right, wobbled, shook, and vibrated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the failures were caused by a bubble located on the outer edge of the front driver's side tire. The manufacturer and dealer (affordable tires in acton, ca) were notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The tire failure mileage was 20,000 and the vehicle failure mileage was 230,000.

Tread on left front tire separated while vehicle was in motion at about 60 mph. Tread did not come completely off and it damaged tire well and bumper.

I was traveling on the highway yesterday when my left front tire blew out(or what i thought was a blow out). I was in heavy traffic and was, by the grace of god, able to keep the car in control. When i was able to pull over, i found that my tread had completely separated from the tire and when it peeled away , it took part of my bumper away. I get regular maintenance on this car. I just purchased it a year ago.there was no indication of a problem, no noise, no "light" nothing. Just boom.

The front passenger side tire started to deflate, whether in motion or when parked. This was a slow leak. The tires had 6/32 tread remaining. The problematic tire would hold pressure for about 40 miles of highway driving, or several hours when parked, before the low tire pressure sensor light would come one. The tire was repeatedly filled with air during the course of the road trip. Upon arrival an appointment was made for it to be checked and repaired at a local shop. Turns out the belt was partially separated. Given the car is all wheel drive i needed to replace all four tires.

During the drive to florida, a hard brake (no skid) and steer to the left was necessary. Immediately following that, the steering became shaky and a road rumbling noise was noticed.after settling in, we took the car to a firestone dealer and they re-balanced the tires.that did not stop the shaky steering wheel or the road noise.one week later, while changing lanes, the tires ran overlane divider bumps and a blowout occurred.replaced the flat tire with the spare (full size) and immediately, the road noise ceased and the steering wheel was perfectly normal.i inspected the tire and found a 2 inch rip/gap in the center of the tread.went back to the firestone dealer and was told i had run over a some kind of sharp road hazard.i believe the belt beneath the tread had failed.

The contact owns a 2012 jeep compass, equipped with firestone affinity touring tires, size: p215/60r17. The contact stated she was sitting at a stop light when the rear driver's side tire became flat.the tire was changed and the spare was installed. The dealer was not notified. The tire manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The current and failure mileage was 11,896.

On may 14, 2017 i walked outside to my parked car in the driveway and noticed that the tire on the driver's side was separating down the middle. I immediately drove to firestone, with caution and low speed, and got it inspected. Once inspected by onsite workers, they told me that the tire had failed and that i would need a new one. I am concerned because i purchased a package at firestone with four tires and i am worried that this will happen to the rest of my tires.

The contact owns a 2009 chevrolet hhr equipped with firestone affinity touring tires size p215/55 r16. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the driver rear tire blew out. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the failure was due to over inflation. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileages, vin and dot number was not available.

First day driving new 2015 jeep patriot, traveling at legal speed on state highway, rear driver's side tire blew.hot day, looks like belt separation, loud pop and cut all the way through the tire. Luckily i was able to maneuver to side of highway. Called roadside assistance.very concerned now about the tires.the are firestone affinity touring t4-p215/60r17 tires.the two front tires have a different afb than the rear tires. Afb 4214 is on the original rear tire. Afb 4414 on the front. No date of manufacture listed on tires.

The contact owns a 2012 jeep compass, equipped with firestone affinity touring t4 tires, size: p215/60/r17. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shake awkwardly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the rear tires needed to be replaced. The tires were not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that they would only assist with the costs for one tire. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1. The current mileage was approximately 37,000.
