Very unusual pattern of tread breakdown on federal formoza fd1 passenger car tires noted. Note this is not the "super steel" model indicated in the database entry. The dialogue did not provide "formoza" models for selection. Tread wear indicated over 3/4 of tread life remaining (car was rarely used), but car was parked outdoors in texas, and tires were 9 years old. Breakdown of tread not likely caused by wear, but rather more likely rubber compound deterioration or manufacturing problem.the tread developed fissures laterally across the entire width of the tread (not extending into the tread shoulder), evenly spaced with a fissure every 3/8ths of an inch around the entire circumference of the tires.depth of fissures unknown.no event in the history of the tires or car can account for this bizarre pattern.the tires were judged unsafe and replaced.photographs were taken of the pattern of damage to the tires, as well as their identification numbers.

Bought a set of federal couragia mt's about five months ago still about 95% tread when two of the tires split going down the interstate. I have read all over the internet about this happening to other people with this tire in all different sizes. I also took the tires back to the company i purchased them from ans they have had a few sets brought back in the past month. Federal so far has refused to credit anyone for the issue. The tires are clearly defective and need to he recalled before someone gets physically hurt driving on them.
Have federal couragia mt tires currently on my truck. Bought last year and have approximately 10,000 miles on them bought them new. Notices cracks in the sidewalk. Now they are running and getting larger, also seen several other complaints on these tires for the same thing. Very dangerous. Size 285/76/16
I wanted to bring to you notice that, carx located at 7880 tylersville sq dr, west chester oh 45069-4688, (513) 777-7945 is selling low quality "federal" brand tires. Nhtsa (national highway traffic safety agency) has rated more than 2,400 lines of tires and the "federal tire" brand sold by carx does not even appear on theirlist!!check it out for yourself at this page (drop down list)http://www.safercar.gov/tires/pages/tireratings.cfm. I am not sure if the "federal" tire complies with nhtsa developed tire safety grading system, known as the "uniform tire quality grading system (utqgs)", that allows consumers to compare tire treadwear, traction performance, and temperature resistance. The federal government requires tire manufacturers to grade their tires in these three areas and place the information on the sidewall of the tire. Can you please advice regarding a retailer selling tires not listed in the nhtsa database ?? i am concerned about the safety of the tires since these tires are not listed in nhtsa database ......moreover, i did not even find the 'federal' brand tires listed in the top 25 (twenty five) tire brands.the tire pressure is not consistent and has to be filled every few days ... Took the car to carx and they don't seem to care.
