I bought a set of dunlop 235/45r17 sp sport signature tires in febraury, 2008 -- and replaced one of them in september 2008 due to unrelated issue.in early july, 2009, only about 17 months after i bought after i made my intial purchase, and less than a year after i bought the replacement 4th tire, the sidewall began to deteriorate (on the newer 4th tire) and the tread began seperating from one of the other 3 tires.had my mechanic (doing a brake job) not noticed the defect, i could've easily had a blow-out and serious injury.i took the car into the tire store when i bought all 5 tires.they inspected the tires and found that all 4 were defective.they called goodyear/dunlop (i spoke with mary in the customer service dept.)goodyear/dunlop acknowledged that all 4 remaining tires were defective and initially demanded$200 to replace all 4 of the defective dunlop tires (which i originaly paid $1,000 for).eventially i agreed to pay $120.51, but i still think i got screwed.meanwhile, there's no recall notice, but clearly these are defective tires.

All four tires have cracks in the sidewall, parallel to the rim, consistent with pending tread separation failure. Tires were kept properly inflated and rotated every 7500 miles. They were well cared for and should have lasted another year or so. The damage did not lead to a crash due to careful inspection, but could have easily gone undetected. All tires will be replaced immediately.

I have photos available of the tire in question. There are 3 separate pieces: the complete (intact tread), the inside sidewall and the outside sidewall.the tire came apart while driving back from visiting relatives after the holidays. I was traveling about 60 miles per hour when the left rear tire effectively came apart. The car started fishtailing and i came very close to running off the road with the possibility of rolling over. It was a very scary situation. I feel that this tire and probably the other 3 tires have a manufacturing defect. Goodyear/dunlop wanted the tires to be inspected by one of their dealers and then confiscated and destroyed. I believe that the way the tire in question effectively disintegrated constitutes a serious manufacturing problem. I currently have all four tires stored in my garage. If at all possible, i am asking for you to inspect these tires so it can be determined accurately whether or not they present an ongoing safety problem. I would not want anyone else experience the traumatic experience i had to endure. Please let me know if you can help me with this matter.

The vehicle was used under normal driving conditions.the tread of the tire began de-laminating from the tire after 40k miles. Fortunately the car was in for service and the mechanic found the defective tires before they came apart while driving.all 4 tires were replaced, but the old tires remain in my possession.

Purchased 4 new dunlop tires 205/50r17 for 2007 mazda 3 2.3l at odometer reading 39484. At 70115 miles, 3 of the 4 tires show separation of tread on the insides walls of both front tires and right rear tire...is this a design flaw of the dunlop tire manufacturer or is the issue with mazda design of wheel placement?
