On july 7, 2012, i was driving my 1996 toyota 4-runner when the rear driver side tire failed. The four tires were dunlop grand trek at21 p265170r16 (111s m+s 014814), purchased new and installed in june 2007. I drive less than 8,000 miles per year on this vehicle. The mileage on the failed tire was only 25,843 miles. It was properly inflated. I did not strike any object on the freeway. The suv was in excellent running order and well maintained. At the time of the tire failure, i was traveling 70 mph on interstate i-80 in iowa on my way from kansas city to chicago. The accident occurred at milepost 287.5, west of davenport, iowa. I tried to control the suv, but i struck the median made of steel posts and anti-crossover cables, first sustaining damage to the driver?s side of the vehicle. Then, the suv hit a pothole in the median and spun 180 degrees striking the post and cable barrier median again with the other side of the vehicle which bent the frame and cause major damage to all body panels on the passenger's side. I came to rest along the median facing backwards, in the direction of the oncoming traffic. Luckily, i did not hit any other vehicle, and my passenger sustained only a very sore knee that bumped against the dashboard. The iowa state patrol arrived and handled the situation (report and photos available).the suv was towed to a garage where both rear tires were replaced and the body metal was pulled out. -- the mechanic at the store said it appeared that the bad tire may have delaminated before completely failing, and from the very good condition of the other 3 tires, it was probably defective. -- the suv was drivable the next day despite the extensive body damage to nearly all body panels. The body work was estimated at $7,026 and the vehicle was totaled by my insurance company. I reported the tire failure and accident to dunlop/goodyear, which said they could do nothing at all because i did not keep the failed tire.

Dunlop at20 grandtrek tires, p265/65r17; 2007 toyota 4runner 27k miles; since new, these tires have very poor traction during wet weather and my 4 wheel anti slip constantly engages while driving in wet weather. Dealership has inspected and technician stated that these tires were junk and i should get my wear and replace.
My 2007 toyota fj cruiser has uneven wear on the edge of the tires at 40,000 miles. The original complaint that brought me to the dealership wasa vibration in the steering wheel at 65mph. I was informed that there is a recall (campaign id # 06v235000) but my vehicle does not have the assigned for the recall.it certainly sounds like my vehicle is experiencing similar issues. I noticed the vibration approximately 3-4 months ago.

Re:goodyear dunlop grand trek tg35 p265/70r16 tire.on august 19, 2011, i was driving on i-10 in fl at approximately 65 miles per hour. The car suddenly got very bumpy and in a matter of seconds, the rear right tire exploded on my toyota 4runner.i lost control of the vehicle but managed to finally pull off to the side of the interstate.after examining the damages to my vehicle, i noticed that the tread on the right rear tire completely separated all the way around the tire.luckily, the car did not flip or collide with another vehicle.i sustained psychological and emotional injuries and over $2000 worth of damages to my car as a result of the blowout.my car only has 36k miles on it and is always kept in the garage. The tread on all 4 tires is practically brand new as it is driven seldomly, with regular tire rotation/balance/maintenance.there should not be any reason for a tire with this little wear and tear to explode the way it did.i have done a lot of research and realize that this could have had a far worse outcome, and that the tires are indeed defective. In addition, my insurance company will not cover the expenses of the tires. Now i am forced to replace all 4 tires out of pocket for fear of the same scenario and not as lucky of an outcome if this happens again.in my research, i also saw that nhtsa has opened an investigation into possible tread separation problems involving dunlop tires sold as standard equipment on 1995-1999 nissan pathfinder suvs. Nhtsa says it has received six reports of injuries in two rollover crashes that were blamed on tread separations on the grandtrek tg35 tire.i feel that unless i sustained life-long injuries, paralysis, or death would the tire manufacturer come forward with any goodwill or compensation.
Vibration in front ent 55-64 mph tires and rims repaced at least 3 times. Dealer and toyota unable to correct problem. Vibration in steering wheel varies with temperature conditions. Worse in temperatures above 70 f. Dealer and toyota representative refuse to acknowledge problem. This vibration was evident during initial road test and appeared to be tire balancing issue. Additionally, toyota is requiring under inflated pressurization of tires against manufacturers recommendation which may be hiding a more significant issue with the frontend condition of this model truck. When dealer representative from toyaota test drove my vehicle this week, he stated that the vibration was within toyaotas specification. But he was unable to produce the details of such specification. I urge you to investigate this issue with these tires and toyotas recommendation for underinflation. I think it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.(dot number: db72g14tiresize: p265/70r16)
Consumer stated the front tires made the front end vibrate violently. Dealerrotated and balanced the tires. However, the problem recurred.
The contact owns a 2006 toyota 4runner.the vehicle has dunlop grand trek tires, size p265/65/r17.the contact took the vehicle in for a routine oil inspection and was advised that all four tires had dry rotted.the tires have not been replaced.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer of the tires.the failure and current mileages were 22,000.
When driving 75 mph on a highway in alabama. The car suddenly felt very bumpy (as we were driving on the tire rim) and then in a matter of seconds the driver lost control but managed to steer the car over to the side of the road after letting it slow down on its own and take its course. After examining the tire, we saw that the tread had completely separated from the rest of the tire, all the way around the entire tire.it remained held together by a few steel threads, but 90% of the steel threads are sticking out of the side of the tire and the tire is completely torn apart at the tread separation points.this is an original tire that came with the car when it was purchased.it is the original extra tire (stored on the back of the car as a spare), that was put on the car in july of 1999 after a flat in one of the other tires.the 2 front tires on the car are also of this make and model (dunlop grandtrek tg35 p265/70r15), and we are very afraid that there is a chance this could happen again and we won't be as lucky as we were to walk away from this.dt
Dunlop grand trek tg35 tire blewout loosing its tread which caused consumer to lose control of vehicle.
The contact owns a 2006 toyota 4runner equipped with dunlop grand trek 8320 tires. Tire size: 256/65/r17, dot; eu7y-2kar3907. While driving 55 mph, the contact stated that the right passenger side tire blew out.the tire manufacturer replaced the tire.the dealer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 127,347 and the current mileage was 132,000.
Both failures were blowouts while traveling on interstate highways at approx. 75 miles per hour.the first failure in 1998 was in the early evening on interstate 45 in houston texas.the left tire blew with no warning.the tread seperated and the tire was totally destroyed.a new tire was installed.the second failure was on interstate 285 in atlanta ga.again the tire failed instantaneously and had to be replaced. The two remaining tires are in need of replacement with 49000 + miles.one of the two tires that were installed are still on the car.it is on the front.ever since they were installed the vehicle has had a vibration. One of the original tires is still on the vehicle and the spare is in use.i will have to replace the original soon.if you have any desire to see it you must respond soon. Dunlop grandtrek at20 265/65r17 tires dryrotted on inner and outer edges of tread. Vehicle is a 2007 lexus gx470 with 16,180 miles. Tires are original. Contacted dunlop and assigned case number [xxx]. They referred me to local dealer to inspect. Dealer said they had never seen a tire issue like that. After waiting a week. Dealer informed me that they would replace tires pro-rated and discounted from full msrp. When i showed the dealer that other local vendors had the same replacement cheaper, they refused to price match. It's going to cost me over $400 to replace the dryrotted tires with the same tire. Not much of an offering from goodyear (who owns dunlop) and i'm left wondering how long the new ones will last.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I just received a recall on my tacoma tire pressure monitoring system.for months i've noticed that my truck would weave towards the left side.and now hears a clicking noise on side of truck like something got loose from pulling to left side. Didn't think any thing of it until having this recall so im now concerned if it was the tire monitoring system that failed to let me know what to do before this problem escalated. I want my truck inspected and with new tires due to manufacturer failure.
