Tires are incompatiable with motorcycle and are serious hazard. Dunlop has agreed that yamaha should not have put this tire on this type of motorcycle. I have sworn witness that have spoke to dunlop representitives about this matter and they are all in agreement that this is not the correct tire for this motorcycle. Dunlop could not comment on why yamaha chose such a hazardous slippery tire for such a performance motorcycle.
Delamination of tire, visible from inside of tire; 10"x3" along center line of tire.( dot number: tire size: 180/70-16 )
Was in a gentle sweeping right hand turn at moderate speed when the front tire suddenly lost traction and slid. The tires were warmed up properly, and pressure had been set just before riding to manufacturer's recommended specs. Component failure led to a crash, with substantial injuries to me, there had ben no warning from the tires of traction issues prior to the incident, and the road surface in the corner was later found to be flawless. Many other purchasers of 2002 yamaha r1 have made the same comment. I can provide a list of these comments, taken from various motorcycle websites sorry, i inadvertantly left "front wheel drive" selected on the 'vehicle information' page, which is of course incorrect. Vehicle is rear wheel drive.
Tire lost traction unexpectedly...others have reported same problem.
At approximately 30mph, i was going around a slight curve when without warning the front tire started to slide towards the double yellow. I was able to stop the slide but ended up driving off the road to stop the bike. This is a street that i have traveled hundreds of times by both car and motorcycle and have never had a front end slide in the way this one did.
The www.f6rider.com/voa sight has informed that dunlop d206 has premature failure to which i have had the same happen to me upon tire removal from the tire rim the inside of the dunlop d206 showed that a large bubble had formed in the inside wall of the rear tire, has been refered to as delamination or wall seperation, this caused the front wheel to wobble and the motorcycle became unstable.( dot number: tire size: 180/70r/16 )
My rear tire ply is"delaminating" which has caused an uneveness in the shape of the tire, causing it to exhibit an irregular surface that effects handling (particularly while cornering).i was advised by a local dealer (milpitas honda) that this problem is commonly caused by driving with low tire pressure.i have kept my pressure at 41 psi (the recommended pressure).i have heard from others that this is a very common problem with these tires and that dunlop has refused to warranty the tire.. Even when it has happened to owners with as few as 1800 miles.i have a good deal of tread left on the tire, but i am concerned that this tire is defective and should be recalled or covered by the manufacturers warranty (100%, includingthe part and replacement labor).honda says to contact dunlop for a new tire and dunlop says it is honda's problem.meanwhile, the customers are getting screwed by being forced to get a replacement tire prematurely at their own expense.. Then the replacement dunlop tire fails too!i know of people that have had two (2) rear tire delamination failures within a year.please look into this. ( dot number: tire size: 180/70r16 )
The rear tire developed a bulge in the center of the tread while riding.the motorcycle became barely rideable.at a friend's shop we removed and inspected the tire.it appeared that the tread was separating from the casing.i have since seen about 2 dozen complaints on various internet message boards describing the very same problem.i have a file of these descriptions if you are interested.( dot number: call me tire size: 180/70r 16 )
