On jan 4, 1999, i purchased 4 cooper tires at gex tire co, 4041 west mercury blvd, hampton, va 23666. (dot number: upgrcem339tiresize: 225/55r-16). All 4 tires were defective and appeared to have had some sort of manufacturing defectives.shortly after the purchase, the tires began to cause unstable driving conditions for my car while traveling on less-than smooth roads, in curves, at speeds around 70 mph and on wet roads.in addition, the tires caused my gas mileage to decrease about 3 to 4 mpg.after replacing the 4 tires all of the above conditions were eliminated without any other repairs.due to accelerated wear, 2 of the tires were deemed unsafe after about 11,000 miles.the remaining 2 had to be replaced at 14,000 miles.the first 2 tires were returned to gex tire co who promised to return them to cooper tire for analysis of the problem.the remaining 2 tires were shipped directly to cooper tire co in finlay, oh at their request following a complaint that i sent them.in my complaint to cooper tire, i asked them to analyze the tires based on the specific problems outlined above.they immediately refunded me 75% of my cost but would not admit that the tires were defective.the alleged that the problem was due to improper car alignment and low tire pressure.neither of their findings was valid.on jan 28, 2001, i had the car alignment checked by the lexus dealer and they verified that the alignment was in accordance with the car manufacturer's specifications.they also noted the unusal tire wear pattern and confirmed that the pressure was o.k.when the first 2 tires were turned in the gex they also noted that the pressure was correct but could not explain the reasons for the rapid and irregular wear.although i sent cooper tire co a copy of the car alignment job order mentioned above, they still ruled that car misalignment was the problem.my major concern is that there may be similar cooper tires in service that may present a serious safety

We replaced our original tires at 37,156 miles with these cooper tires.our local expert tire store is where we purchased them and they also did the mounting and balance.this was done on 06/22/99.on 09/21/00, we took the van back to our dealer's service department for an oil change and rotation.upon inspection, the service supervisor advised us not to drive on these tires until replaced, as there was steel cord showing through on 3 of the 4 tires.the wear was on the inside area of the tires, which could not be seen unless up on a hoist.we left the van and had the tires replaced.unfortunately, we did not have them save the tires.we were upset that these had to be replaced so soon, and that the wear seemed to happen so intensely, so quickly.we have the oil changed on a regular basis and also the rotation, alignment, etc.when we questioned cooper about the tires, their reponse was, "it sounds more like an alignment problem with the vehicle".we then saw on the news where questions were being asked of cooper tires and the way their tires are manufactured.we are lucky that no one was hurt, as these tires obviously could have blown at any time.we have other passengers in our van from time to time, we were very lucky. I bought a car from lexus dealership on june 26, less than 3 month ago. It is a 1993 lexus ls400 with 67400 miles on odometer at the time of purchase. Last sunday my family: my wife, daughter and myself went for a 4 day vacation to lake shasta. It was our first long trip in lexus. Until then there were only up to 50 miles trips. After about two hours of driving at 65-70 miles per hour something happened. We heard something fell out from the car and i barely had the car under control. When i stopped the car we saw that the tread of left rear tie is destroyed/missing. Some other parts including left rear door are damaged/missing. I suppose it happened because the radius of the tire increased without the tread. When we drove back september 13 the same happened with the right rear tire. Again, after 2 hours of driving at 65-70 miles per our we heard a part felling out. The tread of right rear tire was destroyed. Some other parts were missing/damaged/scratched. Both tires were installed when i bought the car. They are the same make: cooper lifeliner classic ii.( dot number: tire size: p225/60r16 )
