After 22k miles i have to replace the original tires 185/70/r14 on my ford contour se '99. I contacted general tire (the tires have 70k miles warranty). I was surprised to find out that "general tire was not contracted by ford co to put tires 185/70/r14 on ford contour se". I contacted tire dealers, check websites and found that the only size 205/60/r15 is listed as an original equipment. The size 185/70/r14 is downsize tires, and tire manufactures will not honor the tire warranty if i put these tires on my contour se. This is one problem. The biggest issue is safety: do the tires 185/70/r14 provide the same safety features as 205/60/r15? i found that r15 tires could hold 400 lb more than r14 tires, provide better tracking control. And, i already know that, the r14 tires lasted only 22k miles.i try to convince ford co that because of the production defect my car - contour se 99 -was equipped with incorrect tires (185/70/r14 instead of 205/60/r15), and as a result of that the safety level of the car is less than it should be, and tire warranty is denied by tire manufacturers. The only fix is to replace the wheels (rim and tires). Thank you.

Vehicle's right rear tire had a blow out while driving without cause.

The relevant facts:1. 1999 general american trailer tires, manufactured by continental tire company, located at 1950 continental blvd., charlotte north carolina.2. Tires have approximately 10, 000 miles.3. In april, 2003, 1 tire blew out as while operating their vehicle.4. In august, 2003, 2nd tire blew out, causing damage to the travel trailer while operating their vehicle.5. Continental requested the tire be forwarded to their north carolina address for purposes of determining whether the blow out was related to the quality of the tire.i have discussed this case with the pa state consumer protection office and they have advised to follow through with your agency. My clients desire to have their out of pocket expenses, i.e., those not covered by insurance, paid by continental.my understanding is that the company may be willing to pay for same after they have tested the tire.the bigger issue, however, is the fact that these tires are specifically made for travel trailers and 2 tires with little wear have blown out.mr. Kern, prior to his retirement, was a mechanic for the pennsylvania state police.he believes, from his experience, that the tires are defective.he wants to replace all of the continentals because he is concerned about future blow outs and what if any damage or injuries may occur.i would prefer to have the tires tested by an agency associated with nhtsa or one which you would refer to prior tosending the tire back to the manufacturer.i do not have any knowledge of an entity to forward same to.the pa state consumer protection office was also unable to direct me to an appropriate testing facility.kindly advise as to the best way to proceed.thank you for your assistance.nancy m. Valve stem failures on four tires while in transit.*mr three of the tires i have as evidence plus valve stem and photographs of tires. Tire #1 12,000 miles, #2 13,000 miles, #3 14,500 miles. I went for valve stem recall about 14-17 months prior to all tire failures at sayville ford.i have all documentation, bills for road service repairs, etc. They told me the "zipper failure" on the sidewall is due to "uninflated tires not the faulty valve stems that failed".the last blowout is still on the rim which i will change soon being it is the spare tire. One tire was thrown out (discarded) by error. I would like to be reimbursed for the three tires that i kept for evidence, new valve stems (different type) and road service.

3 tires blew at the same time by sidewall coming apart, all on rear of vehicle.ford denied helping any in the situation.tires only have 11,000 miles on them and have been properly maintained.

I had my vehicle in for a routine pa state inspection on friday.the shop informed me that there was severe tire damage, perforated sidewall,on one of the tires.there is a separation around the entire interior sidewall, the shop doing the work (a tire dealer) tipped me off by saying. I can't believe they would replace the firestone, which were generally okay, with a tire known to have problems.a little web research yielded the following report:http://www.strategicsafety.com/library/si004.htmmy 17 year old son drives this car.i'm shocked and looking for re-course.how is it possible that the firestone tires were replaced by a tire known to have the exact same issues?i need some recourse here!

2005 ford f-150 with ameritac tr owl tires has a disintegrating sidewall. Customer states tire manufacturer referred to the problem as run flat which caused the tire to fail.inspection of the tire prior to sending it to the manufacturer showed that there was no indications of punctures or holes in the tire tread over the range of the tread pattern including the remainder of the intact sidewall. The tire bead was intact and not damaged on both the inner and outer sidewalls, although the outer sidewalls had disintegrated and mostly missing. There was no indication of a long term wear pattern due to under inflation. Examination of the tire after the failure showed the outer sidewall reinforcing piles were missing and the tire failure was potentially the result of a defect in the tire.

I noticed the sidwall seperating from the tread on the inside of my tire while i was washing my car and took it to a tire dealer who replaced my tire. The tire(s) only have 8858 miles on them and not sure how long it was like that. The seperation was about 4 inches long . My other 3 tires have crackes arounds the tread and side wall as did the tire that had the seperation, but because the side wall had yet to seperate the tire dealer would not replace the other three.nlm

While driving 60 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the rear.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over.consumernoticed that passenger and driver rear tires blew out. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and dealer was unable to resolve the problem.

Three continental general tire ameritrak's have failed on my 2003 f250 supercab (tire tread separation) since jan. 2006 and non-responsive continental tire has failed to contact me, as they said they would, to expedite resolution of my claim! here are the actual facts:in jan 06, the first tire, front passenger, failed with tread separated from tire while i was driving on the highway.during dealer vehicle/tire damage inspection, it revealed the other front tire showed signs of tread separation.under warranty, the dealer repaired all body damage (over $3000.00) and replaced the two failed front tires.my vehicle had 9600 miles on it.the dealer did the right thing.on 10-26-06 at 1:33 pm the 3rd "general tire ameritrak" tire tread on my 2003 f250 supercab separated, causing over $3000.00 in body damage & at 16,194 miles on the vehicle/tires.on 11-20-06, continental tire, north carolina, received my claim (#6300003).on 11-27-06, continental tire received the failed tire.on 11-28-06, i e-mailed an inquiry to continental.on 11-29-06, i received a phone call and the unidentified female stated i should hear something within the next week. It is now 12-13-06 and i have heard nothing. My vehicle remains damaged, and it is unbelievable to me that continental is permitted to sell defective "general" tires and not expeditiously settle claims stemming from those defective tire failures. It's past time for continental to do the right thing and restore my vehicle back to pre-damage condition.since tire tread separation has been well-established, historically, continental needs to be held accountable for the after-affects of their defective products .these tires are dangerous!!!i was driving on both occasions.i could have been killed.continental is dragging their feet on settling the damages.these tires should not be on the market!how can continental conduct business as usual and not be held accountable for damages caused by failures in their product?

2000 expedition tire tread separated.

Dangerous tread separation while highway traveling.this has occurred on four different occasions, resulting in damage to travel trailer including the cutting of electric brake wiring an damage to undercarriage.this same type of tire failure occured, 04/06/01, 03/02/01, 12/13/00.avoqreport was made on 09/04/01 to nhtsa.

Inmiddle of traffic while traveling 55-60mphvehicle felt funny. Then, heard a loud blast. Vehiclebegan to collapse. On 2/26/06 at 12:40pm, my 2000 lincoln navigator rear began to vibrate badly and then a loud noise occurred.the right rear tire tread had separated & damaged my rear bumper wheel well and bracket. The type of tires were continental general aw p275/60r17. The dot number for the bad tire was adto 44t 3802.i immediately went to a local baton rouge tire dealer (tire kingdom) with the tire and the manager stated that the tire had a defect and he could authorize installing a new continental replacement tire.the tire still had very good tread life remaining. I asked him about the other tires and he was not authorized to replace all four.since i was not comfortable with leaving the other tires on my vehicle and he did not have a like replacement, i replaced all four tires and filed a claim with continental (claim #6059007).continental replied and stated that the tire had been repaired (funny that the tire maintained air pressure even when the entire tread had been blown off). This is not a fair and responsible settlement.i sent continental the invoice for the cost of all four tires ($445.12) and two auto repair estimates for the damage (~$800.00 averaged). I noticed that these tires had previously had a recall on the exact tire (id #02t012000) and continental did not mention this or attempt to remedy this situation. I am fortunate that neither me nor my son were killed as a result of this defect which failed while we were travelling on the highway at 65mph. I do not normally file these types of claims.in fact, i can't ever recall ever filing one previously. Please help with this claim and hold continental responsible for their faulty product before any other tires faila dn possibly hurt or kill someone.
