Tread separation.i was driving westbound on i-580, approximately 70 mph, when the tread on my right front tire separated and the tire blew.i was lucky to be able to pull over to the side of the road, with the assistance of other aware drivers on the highway who allowed me to change lanes at a reduced speed.the tire tread damaged the right front area of my car, causing approximately $4,000 in damages, of which approximately $3,000 was covered by my insurance company.the most important issue is safety, not money.i could have been severely injured or killed as a result of the tire failure.the tire had a big o tires brand label but it was manufactured by cooper.before the incident, there was no abnormal usage or wear on the tire, with the exception of accelerated wear at the place where the tread separation initiated, which was caused by the separation.cooper might be the only tire manufacturer that does not use a belt wedge.their history of tread separations and tire failures, and total disregard for the safety of their american customers should be sufficient to remove their privilege of doing business in the u.s.
We had a euro tour tire from big o (serial #u9ytt2n3903 produced by cooper tires size 205/70r15 [this size is not listed on the tire section]) on the front of our dodge caravan.my son was driving on the freeway that had been completed approximately a year before so the freeway was in excellent condition.my son said that while they had our van they had not hit anything nor was there anything in the road.the cop who helped my son change the tire said my son had not hit anything.both steel belts blew out.my son said the tire exploded!it blew out the wheel well, blew off the bumper, blew out the headlight, blew out some of the wiring and broke the bottle for the windshield wipers & gave the fender a fat lip.my daughter-in-law was the vehicle ahead & looked back just in time to see pieces of tire & van flying everywhere.luckily the van did not roll.there was $1800-$1900 worth of damage to our van.big o replaced the tire but when we sent it cooper, they said they believed the tire failed because of a probable impact.a cooper tire dealer & the big o dealer in pocatello both told me they felt the tire was faulty.they did not believe the damage to the tire could possibly have resulted from impact.everyone except cooper thinks damage to the tire indicates it actually exploded.
All four big o euro tour tires purchased and a year later, the tread belt separated from the tire. Narrowly avoiding a collision i managed to get the vehicle into the big o retail center, where my warranty was not honored.not in a position to drive elsewhere, i purchased two new big o aspen tires.a year later, the tread belt separating from the tires on the other two big o euro tour tires. These tires were listed in a recall just months after my purchase, yet i experienced the same problem.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 30 mph, metal was observed sticking out of the driver side and passenger side front tires. The tire pressure was regularly checked, and the tires were rotated at 6,300 miles. There was neither vibration while driving nor abnormal bulging in tires. The vehicle was taken to the independent shop who determined that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and the tires needed to be replaced.the tire manufacturer was alerted. Make: big "o", model: euro tour, size: p215-70-15.
