I own a 2007 big dog k9 that originally came with an avon venom 300/35r18 on the rear. Avon has discontinued making the venom and replaced it with the cobra. I replaced my venom in june of 2010 with the new cobra. After approximately 1200 miles, i found that the tire was starting to separate on each side at a splice joint. I called the people i bought the tire from and they promptly got me a replacement tire. My original cobra had a date code of 4009. My new cobra has a date code of 1111.

This (see photos below) happened on the way to wing ding on july 2nd, 2004. The failed tire had approx. 4,500 miles on it.air pressure was checked at 41 psi cold as recommended by manufacturer.i rode approximately 650 miles east on i-40 and noticed a weird vibration just outside of santa rosa n.m. I thought it was the roadway as it was a little rough and wavy do to the truck traffic. By the time i hit tucumcari n.m. I knew it wasn't the roadway, and was definitely a bad (separated tread) rear tire. The tire was severly bubbled indicating a separated tread. Luckily i caught it in time to avoid a blow-out and or crash. Tire was replaced at a local honda dealer and was sent back to the manufacturer for evaluation. Make of tire was avon. Size of tire was 180/60 r16 74hdot# at0lmnf. Date: 4803serial# 75r-001399this is one of (5) reported failures of this make and model motorcycle tire. There may be a problem! here are web links to photos i took of the failed tirehttp://www.azbest.com/goldwing/tire1.jpghttp://www.azbest.com/goldwing/tire2.jpghttp://www.azbest.com/goldwing/tire3.jpg.

When the cord delaminated it tore the rear cast aluminum license bracket/fender off and ripped up the rear seat and the luggage and embedded them with steel cord shrapnel.
