The tires on our vehicle are failing. They are prospector brand tires, size 225 70 16; dot bf 5cf9cc 4404 (3 tires) and dot bf 5cf9cc 3604 (1 tire). In the 3 years we have owned these tires we have always had difficulty keeping them balanced. The tires have less than 20,000 miles on them, and have significant tread life remaining. Over the years we have had to rebalance them frequently (about 7 times, most recently less than 1000 miles ago). At the last balancing, the mechanic said that there were buldges appearing in the tires, indicating to him that the tires were experiencing multiple ply separations. Now, once again, the tires are shimmying almost uncontrollably at expressway speed; less so at speeds below 40 mph, but still shaking.using the internet, i found that prospector tires had been recalled by their manufacturer, bf goodrich, once before. I called bf goodrich (at 1-877-788-8899) and was told they had absolutely no information on the prospector tires, other than that they were manufactured in the same plant that makes bf goodrich tires. The customer service representative checked several times with her supervisor, returning each time saying that bf goodrich had no responsibility at all relating to these tires or this issue. I believe these tires are unsafe to use and will be replacing them within a week.
I have a set of american prospector suv radial tires on my 1997 mazda mpv that have had sudden blowouts. So far 2 tires have blown in the past month, and at the time i was just driving down a paved street.these tires have not been off road, i check the inflation once a month, so i can see no reason why the tire bead and side wall would suddenly give away.i have looked online and found others with the exact same tires having similar problems.one of the other people that had problems, had 15000 miles on his tireswhen suddenly he had three tires blow over a 6 month period of time.my tires have 20000 miles on them, and i have lost 2 tires in tires in the past month.the tire dealer replaced the first one as defective. I have not taken the second tire in yet.in this last tire i was just driving down the road at 45 mph, after getting off the interstate and suddenly a loud boom was heard, and then the vehicle became unstable and with in 1/4 mile i got it to a safe place to change the tire.this was the passenger side rear tire.the tire was not hot, all the other tires were also cool.the passenger side front tire blew just sitting in the driveway. The tire size is 225-70r-15, the dot number is 3035 xhh 2905.
Tire blowout and disintegration on american prospector suv 245-65-r17. Tire had less than 3000 miles on it. This is similar to an earlier recall of a different size.
