Hello! i hope this finds you well. I would like to make a formal complaint/suggestion regarding lighting on school buses. I myself work as an emt in emergency services and have made some observations regarding lighting on buses. The white strobe beacons affixed to the top of some school buses is quite intense in early morning, inclement weather ultimately being blinding and a visual distraction to other motorists. This morning when behind a school bus with one flashing away i could not judge very good following distance as this intense strobe was flashing away in my face. I?m not new to emergency warning lighting. There is a reason that nfpa compliance and triple k specifications on fire trucks and ambulances exist of which does not allow white flashing lights to the rear, and once put in park all white lights must turn off. This is ultimately for others safety so you remain visible but not blinded by intense white lighting. Not to mention the numerous studies that prove white to be an awful color choice in inclement weather conditions. Hence why we have a pri/sec switch to kill white in the emergency vehicles for inclement conditions. I feel a solid steady burn light sign of school bus in amber front and back would be safer, better seen and not so blinding to other drivers. Please do reach out with any further questions or concerns. I take this very serious and hope to hear from you soon.-[xxx]redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*cc
