-weather tech floor mats: i had a near accident related to floor mats interfering with the accelerator pedal.my brother and i took my fathers (age 90) buick lacrosse to gas station to fill tires with air and get gas on sunday, december 8, 2019.while i was getting air my brother was cleaning the car out and took the drivers side floor mat out to empty the dirt and mud and replaced the mat.upon leaving the gas station and entering highway i accelerated the vehicle to the speed limit.when approaching cars stopped at a red light i found that the vehicle would not decelerate.i had to put the vehicle in neutral in order to come to a stop (at red light).i shut the engine off and restarted and the engine raced.ii shut it off again and started to look on the floor to see if the gas pedal was stuck.that was when i found that the floor mat was covering the accelerator pedal.these are 'molded' hard plastic mats and if they are not installed correctly can cause a dangerous situation.i contacted weather tech via twitter and they merely responded by telling me that they need to be installed according to their instructions.my concern is for elderly, handicapped and inexperienced drivers may not have been able to handle the situation the same as.i have reservations over the safety of the driver's side mat.i would appreciate it if someone can review to see if this product meets design and safety standards.
