The result of an investigation found that the winch was unreasonable dangerous because the user or bystanders would be exposed to the hazards produced by the failure of the wire rope with no prior warning indication that the winch has been overloaded, when pulling at or near its advertised rated capacity of 9000lbs the winches ropes fail consistently, the breaking strength of the wire rope supplied with the winch was about 10% less than the winches advertised rated capacity (2000 warn xd9000i winch 4.6 hp motor).
