The transmission fails to shift gears for no reason, no-one realize what's the causes.the car dies when making turns very often, again, no one can find out the reasons.

Head gasket leak.

Ticking noises on acceleration. Engine uses a tremendous amounts of gasoline and always sounds as if it is over accelerating. Smells of burning rubber often. A belt has been replaced for the 3 rd time.no heat or fan on one occasion. Squealing fan belt on 3 occasions. The third time lost all water and coolant and had to be towed. Strong burning smell and loss of power steering. Could have had serious accident. It has been at the dealer 2 weeks this time and they claim they are replacing pulleys. I am fearful of driving this car. I have a 60 mile commute. *nlm

After only about 1 year of owning my pre-owned 2007 prius, the rubber cover on the hatch release handle (the exterior handle of the rear hatch) melted into a sticky tarry black rubbery gooey mess. I can best describe it as being a viscous black glob like roofing tar. To open the hatch, you have to touch this black goo each time, which makes it difficult to operate the hatch release. I thought that this might be a singular issue, but have found that this has happened to several car owners, particularly in florida and california. I live in southern california and noticed an increase after a particularly hot spell. Toyota knows about this, and is selling the entire wiring harness for $96 plus repair costs, and has done nothing about recalling this. From a safety perspective, this means you can experience extreme difficulty opening the rear hatch (a life safety access point), and will get sticky black tar on you from the melted down rubber cover of the exterior hatch release handle. To me, this is both a serious life safety issue and a serious quality defect that toyota is opting to ignore and only fixing on vehicles with extended warranties, since the failure appears to occur at around the 3-5 year mark (ie after 3 years of exposure to the bright sun in ca for example). I am aware of the outstanding work done by nhtsa on other safety issues, including the problem with rusty frames on 02 isuzu axioms, and i find this problem to be similar in nature, so i am asking for your agency to take a look at these instances and also to inquire from toyota why they are not recalling these handles that are melting in the sun!!! it's outrageous. I think a door handle or hatch handle should be made to last more than 3 years.

Nothing has really led up to the issue.the latch handle/button on the rear hatch has melted.black tar like substance comes off every time you open the rear hatch.

While driving to the store one evening, the headlights suddenly flickered and went out. I turned the light switch off and on then they went back on. Ever since this the lights(driver side) go off and usually come back on after turning the light switch on and off. No resolution to this after contacting toyota since i appear to not be under warranty.

The back latch of my 2007 toyota prius has degraded ("melted" almost). It no longer functions properly, and i am unable to open the back hatch door easily.sometimes it requires considerable effort and perseverance to get it open.i am concerned that in the case of an emergency, i will not be able to get the door open.this is a major cause for concern and it is a serious safety hazard.

I was not notified of recall on my radio/tape deck and now my tape deck does not work.please advise as to how this will be handled.will the recall be covered, is there a serious risk to me?

I have a toyota highlander 2005 .the driv err s side sun visor will not stay up.it is a safety hazard we hole driving.toyota, though this is a problem for many highland err own err 3rd will not fix or replace it.

Head gasket leak.

My 1994 corolla wagon developed a leak in the gas tank in september of 2002.i took it to my mechanic (import motors service inc, 303-422-9654, sepp or mike.) and they installed a new fuel tank which carried a warranty of 12,000 miles or 12 months. I was responsible financially for both the part and labor.in april of 2003 the new tank developed a leak in the same area as the original, above the heat shield of the exhaust.luckily no fire occurred.that second tank was covered by the warranty so i had a third tank put in and it lasted six months before developing a leak in the same area again.i have just had a fourth tank put in and only have 2000 more miles on the original warranty from the first replacement tank, then i will have to pay for a new tank as well as the labor if this one leaks.i was responsible for paying for the labor on thethird and fourth tanks. Thankfully import motors gave me a sympathy discount on the last job, but this is getting to be expensive.toyota has said there is no problem with their tanks when we tried to address it with them over the internet, this is hard to believe.check out complaints oid id numbers: 878860 and 755159. What is up with toyota's replacement gas tanks and do they pose a fire and seafty risk?sincerely, edd hamilton

Toyota prius rear tail lights are reflecting sunlight in early morning and late afternoon as the turn signal and brake light cannot be seen, the silver clear lenses are turning into a prism .

Appears that the drl system mandated by dot can not be deactivated.all military installations madate that a vehicle's headlights be turned off whenoing through the security check points.currently on a 2004 toyota corolla.this is impossible.can not find a dealer who will modify the system due to dot regulations. Dot, dod, and homeland security need to invoke a mandatory requirement that all vehicle manufacturer's provide an override switch.number of complaints are growing and i am more than sure that citations will be issued.getting frustrated trying to explain that the headlights can not be turned off.

I would like to see those new, painfully-bright xenon headlights banned.they might be ok if there were a way to dim them when cars are coming in the other direction, but these headlights are dangerous to everyone on the road, everyone except the person driving the car with those lights, of course.i've had a couple of close calls (one with a pedestrian, and the other with going off the road) becausei was blinded by blue super-bright headlights, but i've also seen them with green and purple tints.if drivers are required to turn off their high-beams in the presence of oncoming traffic so as not to blind them or cause discomfort, the same should apply to these new super-bright headlights.please outlaw them until they can be made safe for all!!

2007 prius trunk hatch release rubber piece melted and i had to replaced it with my own money in toyota dealer.

I am reporting a defective 2007 toyota prius trunk hatch release.the material appears to have been defective.it appears to be a general issue due to poor quality control and faulty design by toyota.the repair cost for this crucial function is obscenely high (around $500).

After purchase, complained of having steering wander. And not only did the dealer not fix the problem, but returned the car with the power steering malfunctioning. After several more trips to the dealer, they finally replaced the steering rack admitting problems with some units. Upon being informed that this made no difference, and without further retesting, carmax and toyota refuse to perform any more attempts at fixing either problem. Ts

The strut caps keep repeatedly breaking and the dealershipdoes not recognize that there is a problem with the design of the placement of the shocks and struts.

I have a 2002 toyota camry that i use for normal driving.at 12000 miles the car started vibrating when braking.the dealer determined that the front rotor was warped and replaced the front brakes and turned the rotors at my expense($250).now, at 29000 miles and a little over a year later, i am having the same problem.

Seat belts won't retract.have had front belts replaced on my 1997 toyota camry twice and problem comes back.belts will not retract and hang out door or on me after releasing.*nlm

Hi,i bought 4 car struts for my car from ebay. The seller sent me the duplicate parts (china stuff). It only works fine for 3 days and after that my car started making a lot of noise. I went to mechanic and he said your struts are really bad. I contacted the seller to resolve the issue but he refused to give me the paid shipping label. I went to mechanic to ask him how much will he charge me to uninstall the struts he said $200.00. And if i am gonna ship via usps then it will cost me around $150.00 as well. So all together it would be around $350.00. I bought all 4 struts for around $278.95. I told everything to seller but he is still refusing to send me the paid shipping label. I told him i will file a complaint against you that you are selling bad quality parts. He said he don't care. Please do something to get me my refund back. My car is making too much noise and its all because of 4 struts i bought from ebay. Please help me you are my final hope. I installed the struts after 2-3 months i got from seller because i didn't have money to installed them it cost me around $300.00 to installed them. I am from a very poor family. Please help me in getting my money back. I will really appreciate it.. I went to mechanic to installed them around mid of january.if i will return the struts myself then it will cost me around $350.00. I bought these struts for $278.95 i will be in loss. I only want the paid shipping label so i can send it back or i want my full refund. I will really appreciate it. The parts i bought has 10 years warranty.. On feb 24 2004 i wasadvised by andrew toyota (glendale wi) that i again needed to replace both rear axle seals and rear brakes (due to leakage) on my 1997 4runner.three prior times, i have replaced the rear axle seals and rear brakes on this 4runnersince 2001: 1. Mar 7, 2001-mileage 71,411. 2. Dec 18, 2001-mileage 83,044. 3.nov 14, 2002-mileage 90303 i provided dealer with copies of nhtsa printouts showing others' identicalproblems with this year/model 4runner, but , of course, service magager at dealer duane domagalski said he and toyota rep (beaumont) do not think there is a problem.and, since it's out the warranty period there wasnt anything they could do for me.they gave me the impression, repeatedly, that toyota could not care less about the nhtsa or about peoples' complaints, and that if the dot thought there was a problem dot would issue a recall!leaking axle seals make my rear brakes less efficient and this is a real safety concern. Dealer and toyotaseemed annoyed that i would dare to complain about the 4runner rear axle seals.

Vehicle options (toyota 4runner 2003 - sport package) indicates vehicle should have come with vanity mirrors in the sun visors.other sport models have these mirrors.my vehicle does not.toyota states that they are aware of the problem.offered a $10.00 american express gift check for my inconvenience.i declined, in preferance of a proper rememdy such as replacing the visors with factory components.also, rear brakes squeel every time it rains. Fuel economy indicator does not accurately reflect actual mpg.error of 2-5 mpg per tank.
