The ac fan began going out on our 2004 chevrolet tahoe about a year ago, first high speed (5), and then eventually medium high (4), and the rest (3-1). After some thorough online research as to the problem and potential solution, i discovered hundreds if not thousands of consumers with similar issues in the 2003-2006 chevrolet truck and suv. It appears that the wiring harness that connects to the blower motor resistor is prone to overheating and melting creating a significant fire hazard. I had noticed an acidic burning smell before but assumed it was outside exhaust. I have a number of photos of the burnt and melted unit and have kept it in case needed.
